Prince was on stage the whole time. Just at the other end. Right before this Prince was left off the best 100 guitar player list. He proved them wrong.
In my best Patrick Swayze voice, "Nobody puts Prince in a corner!" He's chillin' off to the side, then comes out and absolutely destroys it! What a musical genius he was! Such a tremendous loss! He'll always be My Forever Love! 💜💜💜
Prince is and has been my number one for the past nearly four decades. His music marks every special occasion or time in my life. I will always love him and I will always miss him, he broke the mold on the way out, there will never be another Prince 💜
Prince always reminds me of a sad day when we burried our close friend 4 yrs ago who was a musician himself. While the catholic priest walked with the myrrh they played "Purple Rain". To keep your composure was hardly possible.- Thanks for this great tribute. ☮
He did but Marc Mann was horning in on all the solos. Prince decided to practice his solo on his own and said don't worry to them, he would be ready for the guitar solo at the end. And he was!
Prince never disappoints. Saw him at The Forum in 1985 and he was AMAZING. One of the best concerts... ever. And, Tom Petty ... what a sweetheart he was.
This was when George Harrison was inducted into the 2004 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Great tribute to George & this is one of his best songs that he wrote. Dhani Harrison (George's son) was playing guitar with all the other mega stars that night. Sadly we have lost Tom Petty & Prince now.
Dhani Harrison was so young in this but definitely a George mini me. Hes become quite a great musician in his own right. I still have my White album. Really miss my favorite Beatle. 😢❤ Great tribute.😊
That was the baddest FU to the Rolling Stone Magazine judges that left him out of the top 100 guitarist of all time. Alot of them were in the audience. He hadn't really practiced the performance with the band. He learned the song when the promoter sent it to hotel room for him to hear.
Several years ago I went to see Chaka Khan perform in Minneapolis. Out of nowhere, Prince jumped on stage and played an amazing guitar solo and then just vanished. What a genius.
This guitar solo almost never happened. The producers came up with the idea for Prince to join the tribute with Petty and the boys. Out of respect and approval they asked Harrison's widow if she would be ok with it. She said No, she only wanted people on stage that actually knew George personally. They tried one more time and this time with back-up, Tom Petty. This time she said ok. There was no rehearsal of Prince's solo. However, Prince did show up for the first rehearsal but didn't play. They weren't sure how to fit him in with Marc Mann being the lead guitarist. Tom Petty suggested to Prince that he could do the guitar solo on the outro and Marc do the shorter solos in the middle. Prince said ok and left. The next time members of the tribute saw him was 20mins before taking stage. Nobody knew what he was going to do so it was a first time everybody on stage, in the audience and people watching from home. The "guitar fling" was planned and one of the handlers in front of the stage caught it. Prince directed them to deliver it to Oprah but she declined. She said she wasn't worthy which is kinda weird to me. The young man on stage enjoying Prince is Dhani Harrison, George's only son.
If you love Prince- one of his best concerts was Montreux 2009. A rock/jazz performance that showcases princes guitar work and vocals. Easily found on UA-cam and elsewhere. One of his best concerts of his career.
I stand by my first statement. Tom and Prince had a moment on stage. If they lived longer we nave see the ultimate super group and the most amazing music all have ever heard
I didn't know you guys reacted to this one! Prince is my favorite musician/guitar player. He has a way of "becoming" the instrument he is playing. In a different video of this, it looks like he throws it right into the audience. Hard to tell. Brilliant artist anyway. I hope I can visit him on the planet he came from someday. Thoroughly enjoyed your reaction. Awesome. One of the best Beatles songs, too!
Fantastic video, fantastic reaction, #guitarflung . I wont even say "if you liked this one" because I know you did but you should check out th Concert for George (2002), it was amazing. I know you listed Dhani Harrison in the description but in this video, he's the young man up front next to Tom Petty. He is George Harrisons only child and he looks just like his dad. As for timelines, George passed away in 2001, they did the Concert for George on the 1 year anniversary of his death in 2002 and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (this video) March 2004.
This is the vid that made me sub. Great reaction, esp at the end to Prince's exit. The first time I saw this watching him shred was simply amazing. I had known Prince in the 80s as a pop star, and it never dawned on me that he could just rip a riff the way he did. here. From the back lean to the Guitar Fling it was one of the most masterful performance, and there were so many MASTERS on that stage.

Dhani Harrison, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, and Paul McCartney and a multitude of others perform this song during Concert For George that is also amazing. Knowing the history, it always felt a little ironic that Eric Clapton was in on that one. I had not seen this lineup before. You really should check out The Traveling Willburys - a super group! Thanks Jeremy and Jillian!
Hi y’all, greetings from across the pond 😊🇬🇧 So although Lennon/McCarntney were the dominant songwriters for The Beatles While My Guitar Gently Weeps was a George Harrison composition 😊 and featured on The Beatles White Album (circa 1968). Obviously you recognise Tom Petty but just behind him and to his left is DHANI HARRISON (George’s son and his spitting image)😊 George was posthumously inducted into the RARHOF on this night in 2004 as a solo artist/songwriter/musician having been inducted as s member of The Beatles years earlier. The bearded singer sharing vocals with TP is ELO’s Jeff Lynne. 😊

There is actually another cut of this video that was filmed from a little further back. You can see there is a wire rig attached the Prince's guitar...and when he throws the guitar up, it zips right to the hands of the dude that caught it.
I remember watching this on TV. The whole performance was so boring. The song was just droning on and on, and then out of nowhere Prince started to play and it was like the light was turned on. Prince turned the tribute into one that George Harrison deserved. He took what would have been a completely forgettable performance to one that people have never stopped talking about.
It was a telecaster made by Hohner. It was their verson which actually was co engineered by one of the original creators of the Fender Tele. So it us by EVERY definition a Tele just different manufacturing with copyrights authority to do so as well. There were only about 1200 of them made i believe.. The original version had piss poor PUPs they were replaced by Prince and some othe electronics were replaced as well. He had a few remade because ironically, due to very few ever being made, he kept getting them damaged or stolen or the tossing them in the air damaged quite a few in his 40 year career...
He said Paul McCartney, but Paul was not in this performance. Recommend checking out Prince covering "Just My Imagination" live sometime. Many say it was his best work but there's no video.
