@donaldalderman2424 I poured another glass, just to be sure before I told you. I think you'll like it. It's not clove or grass forward at all--hardly even there. Very oakey, breadlike, warm, spicy, and round. If I could find a cask strength version I'd pick it up in a heart beat.
I really like Noble Oak's Double Oak Bourbon. Has some hints of the Woodford Double Oak with perhaps a little more fruit & vanilla flavor. Great deal at only @ $30 where I live.
Bourbon and maple syrup go so well together. I like to make an Old Fashioned with maple syrup instead of simple syrup. Would love to see a maple finished bourbon video!
@@scottreynoldsThe decadence is made by sending barrels to a maple syrup company... who makes that product... then returns the barrels and the bourbon goes back in them.... it comes with a card with an old fashioned recipe using the maple finished bourbon and the bourbon finished maple syrup.
If I’m not just having a drink on its own, I’m all but guaranteed having it with some dessert containing chocolate. OF 1910 and Woodford Double Oaked are probably my top two options. Some others I also enjoy include: Pikesville Rye, Makers higher proof options (Cask strength, 46 regular or cask, and 101), Elijah Craig (regular is fine and cheap, single barrel is fantastic, and toasted is kind of a letdown), and the Knob Creek family (where even the entry-level 9 year bottle is really good). Jefferson’s Reserve and Bulleit 10 works well, too. This list might not be mind-blowing or have anything too off the beaten path, but they all do really well with desserts for me, and most are pretty reasonably priced and relatively easy to find.
I have a store pick of the ASW Fiddler Amburana and it's my favorite bottle overall right now. I never hear anything about this bottle on the internet, so it's refreshing to hear it get the praise it deserves
Great lineup! I’ve only tasted half of these but you’re spot on with the ones I know, so I’ll trust you on the rest. I especially love Café Olé because of the chocolate-covered strawberry note that pops out on the end of the finish for me. I buried my bottle at the back of the shelf so I don’t end up draining it before I can get back to the distillery!
Peerless double oak to me is like chocolate fudge bomb, along with a cinnamon crumb cake. so good. also i have tried that westward before and i agree with the chocolate, but on our bottle i got those strawberry candies that your grandma always had as well
I find that most Angel’s Envy offerings are what I call “Breakfast Pours.” They are perfect for ending your night in the early AM or for when you wake up the morning after in the late AM, before some brunch.
The sweeter, the better, so I appreciate this theme and these recommendations. Anything maple finished fits pretty easily, and a follow up with just these would be great. See if you can find some Iron Fish out of Michigan, they do a standard maple as well as cask strength maple. Would love to even find a Penelope Rio one day that's not well above MSRP. The new Lagavulin Offerman Edition rum finish is a good dessert one, in scotch. Certain flavored whiskies are also easy go to's, Hotel Tango Shmallow out of Michigan, or Southern Tier Confetti Cake are my top two.
I love some of the Sagamore finished ryes for desert pours. Port, sherry, and Manhatten to name a few. I usually find ryes hold up better with finishing.

I got a bottle of your Woodford Double Oak pick at Harry's...good job I really am enjoying it! I would include the Peerless Double Oak Bourbon/Rye in this as well...I still even have some of your Peerless Double Oak Rye pick left...now that one is in another world! I'm trying to hold on to it as long as I can.
Awesome video....offering up your fave dessert whiskeys was a great idea! Also, I loved how you dropped a photo of each bottle in the corner with its label....helps a ton so we know for certain what we need to look for during our next bourbon run!
I have a couple of Fiddler's bottles and the one you are highlighting I could only imagine as an after dinner/desert bourbon. It is much too spicey to enjoy sipping any other time. It is excellent, but definitely has its well focused place.
I'm also a port barrel finished. The Isaac Bowman gets the influence without being too porty. But when I want the deeper Port Flavor Taconic Port Finished is a go to.
Wondering what you think of Murray Hill Club? We had dinner over the weekend at a restaurant with a nice whiskey list, and I was able to try some pours that I have never had. I understand that batches can differ, but I believe that the Murray Hill was the biggest Vanilla Bomb that I have had. I have a bottle on order and hope it is similar.
My bottles of “dessert” : Angel’s Envy Rye, Woodford Reserve double oaked and I have a store/barrel pick of regular Woodford Reserve that is super sweet!
Just discovered your channel and subscribed. As for the concept of "dessert bourbon," let me mention the fine folks at Horse Soldier. Very vanilla forward and very after dinner aperitif.
Thank you for your honest reviews and blind taste challenges on those whiskies/bourbons. You guys are informative in a funny way. I have to sub. Cheers from Sweden.
Old forester single barrel barrel proof rye is a bit hot, but super sweet and dessert-like to me. It reminds me a lot of circus peanuts/lucky charms marshmallows!
Meant to mention previously, if you’re in Indy the sister restaraunt to St Elmo’s which is next door, did an unbelievable flambé bread pudding. Brought out the bread pudding in a cast iron pan, poured Woodford around the edges and set it a fire. Outstanding!
My favorite category and great video!! Here are my recommendations, with the caveat that to _some_ people, it could be considered over-finished or overly sweet (I don't understand what this means). These are my favorites: Angel's Envy Rye Cask Strength Sauternes, Redwood Empire Haystack Needle 14yr Port, J. Henry Bellefontaine Cognac, Copper & Cask Cigar Blend Armagnac & Port, Starlight Bourbon Armagnac. And finally, the new Cedar Ridge Portside (in stock at Binny's) is one of my new favorites, even though I don't like single malt!
For my tastes…a 50:50 blend of Woodford reserve double oak with Old Forester 1910 is hard to beat. Better than either alone, better than Elijah Craig toasted barrel.
I have a Balcones cask strength rye pick that is all dark chocolate covered espresso bean on the palate and the finish tastes like I just ate a Riesen candy, unique and delish. Double oaked ryes tend to get pretty dessert-ish for me, Double oak sagamore and doubke oaked starlight (pick) fill that niche nicely for me.
Oregonian here! I highly recommend reccomend checking out the whiskey library if you're coming all this way to Portland. Also, I would love to piggyback on that bull run excursion!
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is arguably my favourite whiskey I have tried so far in my whiskey journey. I would LOVE to have a bottle of the barrel pick that you guys did. I am i Ontario Canada and our liquor stores don't really do picks and that kind of sucks haha. For real, if anyone can snag a bottle somewhere, HMU and I would love to get it into my collection. SLB you guys absolutely rock, great video as always! (Trying to convince my wife to let me be a patron but saving for a house is a tough thing to get off her mind😂)
Nulu maple brulee. They take maple syrup barrels and toast them to get the sugars caramelized, then age 7 year mgp in them for 6 months. So freaking good.
Oh man, great video and list. I’d also recommend Angel’s Envy Rye, Old Elk Rum Finish Rye, Garrison Brothers Lady Bird or Honeydew, Sagamore Double Oak, Barrell Seagrass, Saints Alley The Herald, Hemingway Rye and Penelope Toasted Rye. Cheers y’all!
I couldn't do the Rio. Assuming it's the amburana, but I haven't tried a straight honey finish yet. It was crazy sweet, quick trade for a 10yr Russell's pick.
I’ve got a Rio and just found the WD Decadence. Both great though Rio is something that I can only do a little of. I haven’t tried John J Bowman, but both the Bowman Brothers and the Isaac Bowman releases are fantastic.
Of you like amburana finishes try doc swinson bosa nova I have a store pick and enjoyed it so much I bought a backup. It is 113.9 proof and excellent. I do want to get a bottle of the fiddler amburana finished too. I also have been enjoying Jefferson ocean tropics as well. Cheers keep up the great content
13:16 George Dickel 8 Yr Bourbon (gold label) tastes like butterscotch syrup to me. It’s a little one-dimensional, but when I’m in the mood for sweet, it’s great (especially at thirty bucks).
I'm 30 minutes from the Bowman Distillery and JJB is hard to find around here too. People thought I was weird because I was in Maryland at a place that had 5 cases of JJB for only $42/bottle so I brought home a case...
Great idea to review by finish. Maple, Maderia, sherry, etc. your list is great. I would throw in Starlight light whiskey. A banana pudding butterscotch bomb
I'd add Compass Box Hedonism to the dessert pour list, especially the 2024 version. It's a single grain scotch that is very sweet. Another one is the Maple Cherry Finish Sagamore Rye, which may well be the sweetest Rye I've ever had from Sagamore Spirits. Also surprised to not see a single solely honey barrel finished bourbon in the line-up. I know Rio has honey barrel as part of the blend, but the Amburana makes the honey a background flavor. Starlight makes great honey barrel finished single barrels.
Kinda in love with the Woodford double oaked...
Soooo good!!

I love this channel.
Sagamore Double Oak is my go-to dessert pour. Tastes like oatmeal cookies and frosting.
My favorite next to Angel's Envy Rye
That's a good one
I want to try this one but how rye forward is it? Don't care for herbal or minty ryes.

I asked for this video about a year ago. You acknowledged it and now you have delivered. Outstanding!
4 minutes of great jazz music, great!
My current favorite dessert pour is Pursuit United Double Oak. It's pure Whoppers, Milk Duds and creamy butterscotch in a glass.
This is why I wanted to get a bottle!
I would love try that SlB pick!!
