Dan and I always are looking for bottles that we think are great values. These are some of our favorite available whiskeys right now! Top 9 bottes of value bourbon and some of these will surprise you. Me more so than him because who likes wasting their money on whiskey that isn't worth it? Here are a few bottles we think that are exceptional values for the whiskey in the bottle right now.

If you all are interested, I have a friend who works as a supervisor at the distillery there at Bardstown. He sent me a bottle from his private barrel that came from the first runs off their still of the wheated mash bill bourbon, which is now the black label origin bottle. So this bottle is signed by him, it’s barrel proof, and it’s 7 years old. Obviously, it’s a bottle that isn’t on any shelf for sale anywhere in the world because Bardstown isn’t offering any single barrels of that mash bill, just the white label. I’d be happy to send you a sample of it if you guys wanted to try it.
I love the “$10/year is good value” adage for everything, but if someone pays $50 for Eagle Rare, everyone complains about the overpay lol
I think they are talking about limited edition bottles. Not every day shelf bourbon.
And people pass on Russel’s 10 year every single day at $35
Where does this $10 a year thing come from?
Yea more on the LE side of things, Beam has done it well with the fitz decanters
@@chadqueckboerner6423 Man, I love Russle's 10. I have several in my home bar at any given time.
Got a bottle of the Bardstown white label at my local Costco for $38 this weekend. Can't beat that.
I don't buy into the $10 per year schpeel. Someone somewhere came up with it and now here we are all Stockholm syndromed thinking "Hardins 2 year for $80.....Brilliant!". Maybe beyond a certain age, it gets more real, but from 4-10 years that shouldn't be the case. DPs have been putting out aged product for decades probably closer to $3-$5 a year. Launching underaged, underwhelming whiskies at higher prices then making people think that they need to spend more for better taste, will keep more people out of the bourbon scene than bring into it, which is not good for the industry long term. Great value bottles are what brings in more bourbon fans. Cheers nonetheless....imma stick with my KC12 for $70
kc12 is the nector of the gods
Wild Turkey 101 will always be the best value in bourbon
Not if people keep spouting off about it.
CONFIRMED that!
In my book, it is the Gold Standard...for all reasons.
Absolutely
KC 7year Rye > JD Bonded Rye if we’re talking shelfers, imo. 🤘
Just bought 2 (1.75 liter) KNOB CREEK RYE for 19.98 a bottle. Now that's a great value .
The 7 year?
Bardstown bib is awesome .
Outstanding as always guys, you rock! Thank you for putting this list together. I couldn't agree more on the Green River, Penelope, Barrel, Bardstown Origin and JD Bonded Rye. Plus you added a couple of new bottles for me to look for. Thanks again and keep up the great work. Cheers...
Long time listener, first time poster. Thank you guys for making a video like this. I've been buying for many years and don't mind spending a few extra dollars for a bottle I really want but it has gotten out of control out here in California. Looking forward to some of these making it to my area. Cheers!
The Chattanooga 11th is fantastic. I got a bottle a few months ago for like $55 at Binnys
Your shows are FUN, FAST and TRULY INFORMATIVE ! I have 5 new things to go hunt out now!
I still love Ezra and Rebel picks at around 50 bucks.
Best list every guys! Filtering through the growing number of choices of "bang for the buck" whiskeys now days is impossible. Thank you for this.
Some great options there. Nice list!
Bardstown Origin Series White Label is one of my top favorite bottles! It's been on my Bourbon bucket list for so long and I finally found some back in January. It's so good!
Love the smirnoff hiding in the back... reminded me of when I used to always keep an arbor mist in our retail cellar to keep the wine snobs giggling - complete with tasting notes and NV necker. Never loos your sense of humor - its just booze! And 100% on the Barrel - best value I've had since the days of sub $40 EHT.
The Ben Holladay BiB bottles were great this year. The Soft Red for sure.
About Stonehammer, my nearest Kroger in Indiana sells it as Tradewater.
True, it was rebranded. Still good, and now it says "Barton sourced" on label.
@@kentuckyhills454 For sure. It's my go to "cheap" stuff
The single barrels were $25 at Indy Krogers for a while.
Stone hammer is Barton
In my local grocery store they had a Barton display, bt, er, 1792, and stone hammer
I'd like to rewind to pre Covid prices. Geeze, some of these prices are out of control.
I was snagging up Green River single barrels at Meier a couple months back, no one was grabbing so I ended up with several after a week or so. Was shocked no one seemed to want, they were 60 something after tax and well worth it.
Love Bardstown black label, will have to add white label to the list to try
Bardstown needs to distribute in Missouri
That bonded rye is amazing
New Holland is so good! All their special releases have been unreal so far too
Ben Holladay BiB has been my favorite value bottle, however the price has been all over the place. I’ve found it from $38-$75 🤷♂️
Bardstown and Barrell have been blowing me away.
JD Bonded Rye can be found for $33-35 here in FL but it's only 700ml so slightly less value. Still solid overall
The Chattanooga founders is an annual release. The 12th anniversary will come out April 13th
The Penelope 9 year is 🔥
The dragons milk origin bonded is such an amazing and unique bottle. Sucks that it is pretty hard to find now, even here in michigan
Got me a green river wheated the other day very smooth stuff.
I went to TWO gas stations and couldn't find StoneHammer, guess I'll stick with my $37 ER10...
PS - solid list, was fully expecting Vampire to throw in a "if you can find an OF Early Times BiB"...
I almost blew a gasket when Dan dissed Irish. I’m now team Sean for life.
Same
Jack bonded rye mixed with the regular bonded is nice. Just saying
The best old fashioned I've ever had was with JD Bonded Rye.
So does the Miejer have it still? I haven't seen or have been able to get for a few months
What’s the difference between the black label barrel strength Penelope and the red label?
Love this but most of these are not available in MD and/or have never heard of them at all.
The JD BP SB Rye is MY FAVORITE of the year. I've bought one, every time I see one at the store or online, and always been at msrp. No one seems to be marking it up or trying to flip it and I'm thankful. I usually hate hoarders, but in this case, I'm one but plan and drinking every one of them in the future! But yeah, if that bottle wasn't a thing, the JD Bonded Rye is amazing! The heritage twice barreled Rye was a bit of a let down at 100 proof, because it smells great and starts off great, but then falls off a cliff. Where as the Bonded Rye is just okay on the nose, then great on the taste and finish. The barrel Proof Rye is amazing on the nose, taste and finish. Knocks it out with all three. But imo, if something is great on the nose and taste, but the finish sucks, then that counts majorly against it. Finish counts a bit more when it comes down to REALLY judging between whiskeys, imo.
Totally agree. JD bonded rye is some of the best sipping whiskey I've ever had. Does not drink like a 100 proof rye....totally smooth, flavorful and at $36 at Meijer and just about anywhere....super good. Thanks!
@charlest8373 , the Bonded Rye IS really good and a GREAT value, but I was actually talking about the Jack Daniels Barrel Proof Single Barrel Rye. Those are all 125+ Proof, that I've seen and have.
Love the Penelope 9yr. I travel to MA to buy it at 56-59 since my fucked up state,Maine, charges 92 after tax for it.
Barrell Foundation is solid. I prefer their other offerings more but worth having.
Love the inclusion of origin. Saw it in another of your videos before I knew you were from Michigan. I have the "regular" origin and love that bottle. Have not gotten my hands on the BiB or any other limited releases
The old JD Rye got clearanced for $8 at Target to make room for the Bonded Rye and I have been sipping JD Rye Old Fashioneds like the cheapest king of all time ever since.
Original bonded is friggen amazing.. I’ve drank 3 already.. tastes like peach rings and 100% very Irish.. they are killing it and new holland is honestly one of the most exciting distilleries in the country right now
White label Bardstown is more like 35 in Ohio and is awesome. Between them and Green River great budget pours
Heavan hill 1783. Mixer, neat, on rocks. Not best but solid
Tried stonehammer a few years ago, and again after your review. It's okay, but not for the $35 they charge in my area. I'd give it an occasional go for the $20ish but at $35 there's far better options. Can't find anything else on that list out here in the PNW, except for the JD rye, which is solid.
Penelope's release this year is supposed to 'HAVANA" a rum finish release
Early Times BiB is one of the best "value" bourbons out there.
Awesome whiskey content as always, boys! Coming here to comment that JERSEY MIKE'S IS SO GOOD. That is all. Cheers!
Is Stone Hammer rebranding to Trade Water? My Kroger stopped carrying SH for a while then came back with the same bottle and label but it’s called Trade Water.
the "$10 per year" rule of thumb should be adjusted based on proof. $10 per year for a cask strength bottle is not the same as $10 per year for a low proof (such as Elijah Craig 18 at 90 proof)
How do light the wall display?
Am I the only one who resonates more with Dan this video😂
The Rishi’s pick was a really good Green River pick.
I'll have to go back for this one. Rishi rocks!
Get on that Dragon's Milk Maple Origin this weekend
To me, $80 is the cap for 10 bourbon from smaller companies unless it's cask strength. I expect the legacy companies should be able to sell 10yr bourbon for under $40, like Buffalo Trace and Wild Turkey does. Knob Creek is just shy of 10 years and it can be found in some markets under $30. Old Forester 1924 for $130 is an absolute crime.
Is the Bonded Rye twice as good as OF Rye? Cuz it's twice the price. Both 100 proof ryes.
green river rye has impressed me, tbh
Always interested my friends.
Can blind JD bonded Rye vs Green River Rye?
Good stuff!
Great list! Don’t the Bardstown Origin picks come in different mashbills? Maybe that is just the case for the Louisville tasting room. Great stuff regardless.
Origin Bourbon has a single barrel, Origin Rye barrels coming this year. The Louisville Tasting Room has its own unique Four Grain Bourbon barrels that you can only get there
Been keeping a eye out for that founders
That white label Bardstown is a bottle I will always keep around
Guys get a thick rubber kitchen runner mat for behind the bar so you don't break stuff!
I don’t know guys, the Green River full proof picks are nothing like ECBP for me, both are really good, but they are completely different flavor profiles.
Good call on the Chatt, but 🤫I like it at $60 lol.
Heaven Hill 7 BiB is the best value in bourbon! IMO
i thought Chattanooga was all their own distillate now?
Why wasn’t the JD BP Rye on here? $70, and it’s one of the best rye’s on the market!
BBC White label picks are comprised of drastically different mash bills...choose carefully. I have seen one that is the same mash bill as the white label Origina offering.
Ben holladay soft red wheat rickhouse proof, sagamore 8 yr, sagamore px, ecbp
Damn I live in Chattanooga and don't have the Founder Series. What am I doing?
The Bardstown white label is fantastic. Better than Blanton’s and readily available where I live
FYI...Kroger changed Stonehammer to Tradewater.
Only JD Bonded Rye is available in Utah. Jeez
Fellas...JD bonded rye better than Green River Rye??
If #1 isn't green river than you guys are wrong. Edit: Well alright then
You two wouldn’t be located SW of Midland MI would you???
Bummer Fitz decanters are no longer $10 per year. Not that I found any anyways
My go right now is 4R Single Barrel. 40ish bucks and tastes fantastic
4R SB at $40, JD SB BP at $60, Elijah Craig BP at $80
Isn't New Holland the distillary that made PBR Whiskey?
Anyways, any tips for people driving a couple hours from Ohio to Micjigan to make finding this whiskey any easier?
Go to Meijer! They typically have the Regular Dragons Milk Origin available. Or go to one of New Hollands tasting rooms and get the full experience and more selection!
If 10 dollars per year of aging is a good rule of thumb then the knob creak twelve year in sake at my local liquor store for 46 dollars is a pretty crazy deal 😂
Creek*
I paid $115 for the last bottle I picked up
You paid 115 for a widely available $60 bottle?@@ssky-rt9nm
that bottle is 90 around here
@@thebigcor maybe I should buy a few more then
Stonehammer is no longer at my kroger, a bottle named tradewater that looks exactly like that took its place...did they rebrand?
Apparently they just changed the label, supposedly same whiskey but we haven't had it
Chattanooga Whiskey
I just had JD's bonded rye less that 10 minutes ago. Not bad for the price. Doesn't stand up to JD single barrel rye.
heard $10 per year was a good deal, bought a case of eagle rare 10y for $600, thanks for the tip guys!
I really hope this is a joke
If we’re happy with $10/yr, I feel like the $115 price tag on 1924 is for sure justified… especially factoring in the heat cycling.
Penelope fan man for sure my friends
Ben Holliday bib should have been on the list.
🧱Found built on one brick! Best Dan line ever, 😂 epic!
I live 30 miles from New Holland. I’ve never seen an Origin Bonded at a store.
Meijer has had them in there for awhile. Saw them again yesterday in GR
@@lukstephens1 meijer website says they have it in stock in Grand Haven. Thanks for the tip!
Mitch! Bourbon guy, cool! I have only seen their small batch as well. No bonded. I'll let you know if I find it locally.
@@erics6947meijer website says Grand Haven has it in stock
Only the Small Batch in Indiana as well! ReAlly want to try the bonded, maple, and toasted versions! May have to drive up to a tasting room to experience them all!
Only one question… where is your pour today?
I have a gas station convenient store down the road from me that carrys the black cap early times......buttt..... it's 49.99. I buy one everytime I run out. It's hands down better than almost all 20-80 bourbons out there it just annoys me it's 50...... but I keep buying it and I'll be sad when it runs out forever
Shots fired, Dan. "Up the Republic!"
Design wise, Penelope needs to drop the gaudy "P". I always thought it was an overpriced celeb brand and didn't bother to research any further. I think highwire hit a home run with the Jimmy Red rebrand and I think that same idea would benefit so many companies. Before whiskeytube was a thing, attractive labels or word of mouth were my reasons for purchasing.
I am convinced my bottle of origin must have be from an off batch or something, it is like chewing on a mint sprig and nothing else. Maybe another is required.
Already moved to the lower shelf and still haven’t done my shelf yet….
Yes we have old man
@@BourbonJunkies nope. That was my $100 patron video. I also get a shelf video too. I want what I paid for, dammit!!!!! 🤣
