“What you doing this weekend?” “Chopping the plugs off of all my lamps” 😂😂
Lol...yeah
I bought one of these in 2021. The first time I tried to pair it with my network it took at least 8 attempts to pare. Recently my router crashed and I had to re-pare my Sonoff with my network. It took around 15 attempts to do so (I nearly gave up and was going to throw it away). These things are ridiculously hard to pair in my experience. I would avoid them.
getting one of these to control my central heating boiler....looks a great job
Watching this as I m setting it up , thanks bud
Hate to be a dreary zealot of the wiring regulations, but just to point out - severing the earth cable on this lamp, a class 1 (metal) appliance, would make it fail a PAT test. A live fault in the lamp could make it live and a fuse would not blow... and we all know what could ensue - yeah - death! The only way to make this safe would be to join the earth cables around the Sonoff unit, maintain it's integrity. Annoying that many of these switches don't come with a terminal to place our good old earth.
Thanks for the comment, I was thinking the same thing, why don't these companies add a earth I just don't get it.
This is why I came to the comments thank you sire
Exactly. This product should never be allowed to sell in EU.
Thanks for a comprehensive review.
Just bought a couple of these switches. Thanks for a really good informative video
Thanks for video. Enjoyed it, and got good info regarding google home and Alexa connectivity.
Thanks for the comment much appreciated.
Great tutorial 👍👍
Thanks
Test between the input and output terminals - I have found these units to be incorrectly labelled, so the switch is in the line marked neutral.
The work fine if you ignore L & N labels.
If there is a mains failure or if just power is switched off at the wall switch when power is resumed does the light default to the on state and would the device need setting up again?
Hello, thanks for the video, it is very useful. I have a question when I connect to an access point, it tells me that I am connected without internet. What am I doing wrong? The switch is connected but without internet. Thank you very much for the help
Same problem...
Make sure your wifi network setting is on 2.4ghz. The sonoff switch WILL NOT WORK on 5.0 ghz.
at some point you mentioned it as a "cloud switch", just to make it clear; can you reach/control the switch on another network, say GSM? If so is the could service free?
The Sonoff would still need to be connected to the Wifi as it does not have any SIM card on it to connect to the mobile network. If the Wifi is connected to the internet, you will be able to reach the switch.
May I suggest you learn how to connect mains wiring properly before you have an accident. The outer insulation should always be under the cable clamp.
Still no IFTTT support for data from TH series ?
What you actually want to know out of a box filled with useless info starts at 6:31
Do you think this would work if it's connected to a 12v converter?
Can i use this pece of advice for like loudspeker or tv or airconditioner
Yes
Thx
I want to ask that if i put the timer option in the switch and then lost the internet signals could the switch turn on and off light on specific time without internet
No unfortunately not
is this working without modem or wifi router just youre phone and the sonoff device only?
Oh Hey you got the same Screw driver kit I have!! What a coincidence! xD
I have a question, what if I don't have a Wi-Fi router, any possibilities I can still use it or I will have to buy one?
Does phase and neutral input make a difference?
Could I use this to connect a fan heater? Or is the heater too powerful for the sonoff circuit?
Very detailed video. One question though: the BasicR2 switch or any Sonoff switch for that purpose works ONLY with inhouse AC/DC voltages? I gave a 5V battery as source and it DID NOT work...
Yes its not for 5V battery.
so if my home internet connection is unavailable, will ibe able to turn the switches on?
Does it have a manual override?
Excelente explicación, Gracias amigo
Does this product provide dimming facilities also? I am looking for a product to connect in series with some external lights to switch them via a timer at a reduced light output. The luminaries themselves are dimmable
No, but I've got a review coming out soon of a product that may cover what you're after so stay tuned.
@@GeekStreet How long we talking mate I'm desperate here haha
@@Jck142 lol...Saturday not long
lemme give you a tip you can connect a fan regulator on the light to dim it✌🖤
Hi if my internet goes down, can I still turn off the lights using my wall switch?
Yes
If the internet network goes off when the switch was off can I turn it on manually?
@@samolum3243 yes
The app Ewelink that I downloaded from PlayStore is completely different from what you show on the video.
Tha app is updated, this video is 2 years old.
I'm writing this as I watch so not sure if you'll mention it, but what would you do with the ground wire?
Good question, the product does not has a connection point for earth so you could just wire it into a connector block so it does not touch anything else.
Bună, se poate pune și un întrerupător, concomitent cu telefonul ? Cum se face legătura, mulțumesc 👍
What do you do with the earth cable in the uk ?
You could connect together with a connector block.
Thanks
Can i control multiple switches separately by this one device ?.
Only if the other switches are smart and you can use smart scenes.
If you turn this off with the smart switch what happens if you press the physical switch on the lamp?
Hi, I had to use 3 switches as I have 6 wires coming from a real traffic light. I followed your instructions on wiring the switches and when I plugged the 3 plugs in nothing happened. The lights didn't come on. Can you please tell where I might have wrong? Do I have to install the app before anything happens? I am using Alexa. Many thanks Paul
You have a real traffic light!? Lol
I won't ask how you got that, its probably first worth testing if each traffic light is actually working so wire directly to the mains and test if that works, if all good then connect up the the smart switch and configure the app to control it. Yes you will need to configure the app for that to work. Let me know how it goes, would be interesting to hear.
Sorry I was on the phone. Yes it's real and I got a bloody shock when it arrived. It's massive. I got it on ebay for my kitchen wall thinking it was more of a toy one. I got that wrong. The seller said it was working but needed connecting to the Switch so I had to buy one for each light as there was 3 blue and 3 brown wires . The only thing I haven't done is load the app which you say I need to do.
@@TheAlpfire wow you really can buy anything on ebay 🤣😂
If that doesn't work make sure you test each individual light out.
Thank you very much for your help. If yo read that someone has blown himself up surrounded by bits of traffic lights in Colchester you'll know what's happened.
INTRESTING..THANKS
What is the price
these are not designed to be used as a open unit as you will need to joint the earth through. this way is unsafe.
these could be easily pulled out by a child exposing live wires. device is no longer farther aswell.
best to put all this into a project box and join the earth through with a waggo or screw block.
that way it is then a sealed unit.
Thanks for the comment much appreciated. And good point.
Surely if you had common sense you would not need to be told how dangerous this is. This devise does not comply with U.K./EU electrical standards
Have any switch that work on 5 kilowatt load
I'm choosing between SmartLife noname devices and eWelink (sonoff) for my home automation. Which one is the better and why? In future i'am planning to use that devices in Openhab+mqtt environment (without chineese cloud).
If you're planning to hack the devices to avoid the Chinese server Sonoff devices are the ones you should go for as far as I'm away the others can't be hacked to point somewhere else.
Vlad G Did you decide ??
Can you connect with smart life app???
No unfortunately not.
What if this device malfunctioned and will not respond remotely due to internal issues, can it still be switch off?
There is no off button on the device so if you had it wired into a plug socket that would be the only way to switch off.
Can you have a timer based on sun rise and sun set?
hello.. yes. that is an option in the app you download.. and what's even cooler, it takes your specific location and automaticly changes according to specific sunrise/sundown..
@@zoranhorvat7039 thank you 🙏. I’ve bought one and using the sunrise/sunset feature. It’s very cool 😎
Thanks.!!
Is this work with google home
Yes
Geeks dont buy, they create
How to bypass incase wifi is off
Does it also work in UK?
Yes it also works in the UK
Why anyone would use this when smart WiFi plugs are available?
Just switch your lights on with your hand mate. It's easier.
Thanks for the comment, yes you can do that 😀 but this takes things to the next level you can remotely control the light even when your not home.
Geek Street why would one need to turn on the light when he is not home?
For security reasons, to give the impression someone is home.
Geek Street and how much money will u save if you turn off the light during day time.
I can't comment on that you'd have get your unit cost and work out yourself. With this product you are not just limited to lights you could connect to other tech too.
