No, the world isn't recovering. In Thunderdome and in Fury Road it is shown that the oceans have (partially?) dried up, which raises a lot of questions in itself. The world as we know it is however dead.

Fury Road blows in comparison to this movie. Really, as good as it was it doesn't hold candle to the to the real movie making of Mad Max 2. The budget of Road Warrior ( as named in the US) wouldn't cover the cost of paper cups used to make Fury Road but they did fantastic things with it. I LOVE the entire series with the original by far the best in my opinion.
Fury Road is a 2 hour sensory overload, and the characters are a bit underdeveloped. Also like come on the chase goes on for over an hour and they couldn't figure out a way to puncture the tires?
