    I just bought a used Lincoln 140. It came with the box that said it was shipped 14 years ago but doesn't look like it was used more than twice or three times. It came with a Lincoln stand, 2 helmets, goggles, 2 wire brushes, chipping hammer, 2 new pairs of Lincoln welding gloves, a bag of tips and rollers and 2 spools of wire. Also included was an extra stinger and ground cable and clamp that are new along with 2 new regulators. Bought this for $700 Canadian.

    Thank you for this. you talk about it from someone who's had a lot of experience doing this work and it's really appreciated.
    I got interested from the usual source, a british youtuber by the name of colin furze. I may have a go in the future but i'll get someone to teach me rather than learn as i go which from what i hear this thing can ruin your day pretty quickly if not done right.
    Thanks again learned a lot!

    Hobart is (Black&Decker) Miller (DeWalt) and there is NO better name in the industry than Miller. Lincoln is a solid, what I leaned on and is a primary and simple machine, unbeatable value.

      That’s pretty funny because DeWalt is owned by Stanley-Black&Decker and several years ago Miller bought Hobart and downgraded the Hobart line to homeowner grad machines.
      In my opinion DeWalt is Serious Homeowner Grade.

      Glad the video helped! It's been a while now, the new 140 has been performing great.
      The Miller 220 appears to be a great machine, looks to be a powerhouse for the next step up in welders. Mig welds welds 3/8" material, that's pretty typical for the dual voltage design. Plus it does TIG and stick welding, that would save some money over buying those seperate. Cant go wrong with the big names, Lincoln, Miller.

    Since when is flux core welding NOT mig welding?

    • @marktolman6037
      @marktolman6037  Рік тому

      Since forever, or since the beginning of welding haha. MiG stands for "metal inert gas." Its only MiG welding if there is a shielding gas used, using a solid filler wire. Flux core does not use a shielding gas, as the the center of the wire is flux. Operating similarly to a welding rod (stick welding). MiG welding uses gas to help avoid porosity in the weld, flux core uses the flux to achieve this (although doesnt do quite as good of a job). Sometimes flux core and mig welding get confused, because they are both wire feed welding systems.

    • @dougwisdom1239

      So what changes when you run dual- shield mig?

    • @marktolman6037
      @marktolman6037  Рік тому

      Dual shield arc welding uses 2 shielding methods (hence the dual). Dual shield uses gas, and a flux core wire. This welding method is used in heavy machinery and structural welding. Much hotter, faster metal deposition. Expensive

    Great video sir and I have a question, I'm a beginner self taught welder and my welding isn't the prettiest but it's getting there. What machine would you recommend for someone like me that wants to weld mini bike frames and also 1/4" metal from time to time and things around the home? Thank you for your video and I gave it a gigantic thumbs up. 👍

      Thank you! I recommend this welded, but it all depends on how much you want to spend...Harbor Freight has some nice machines for a budget minded individual, or a newbie. If you want to spend a bit more, and get a quality machine that will last a lifetime, get this Lincoln 140 or a Miller. Whatever way you go, make sure to get a machine that has a 120v plug, or a multi voltage plug to fit a typical home outlet. In my opinion, you get what you pay for in the welding industry.

    Can you weld with gas or without?

    • @marktolman6037

      Yes to both. It's a mig machine primarily, to be used with gas. You can use flux core wire without gas.
