I agree on the desire for more compact lenses. I currently use the 11mm E lens on my a7c II as a 16.5mm which works well for my purposes (video in restricted spaces).
I’ve strongly considered picking up that 11mm!
After all this time, I still get a bit exited when I get a notification from your channel. Today is no exception! I may actually consider getting this, even though my 20mm f1.8 still works ver well for my needs. The versatility of having a UW to W lens is compelling, but I wasn't going to pull the trigger for a GM lens (like the 16-35) as I'm reserving that spot for the 24-70 GMII for this summer! (A neat birthday gift to myself as well! 😊) I welcome this addition to the native lens lineup, and may grab one for the changing of the leaves this Autumn.
I appreciate you always commenting and watching the videos man!

One thing poeple forget to mention about the sigma 16-28 is the horrendous focus breathing. For that reason alone this lens is worth it for me, along with better active stabilization performance since its a sony native lens.
Thanks for this quick review Dylan. Have really enjoyed your videos - you sold me on the compact philosophy and helped convince me to pick up the A7Cii and some of the accessories you've recommended. So much lighter than lugging around my A7RV and heavy Gmaster lenses.
I think I'll stick to primes for now to keep my setup as lightweight as possible but its cool to see Sony prioritizing these compact zoom options.
Not sure if you reviewed the Viltrox 16mm f1.8? Maybe that’s the stop gap prime to consider?
I haven’t had a chance to check it out but I would love to!
Yeah a compact 75-150mm would be cool, but what I’m really waiting for is a new compact 85mm.
Are you thinking like viltrox 20/40mm compact or how small? I find the 85mm f1.8 to be pretty small and was a great match on my a7c
Hi, nice and informative video!
Did you have the chance to get a lens profile for Lightroom yet? If not, do you use another lens's profile or correct it yourself? Thank in advance.
now that the price is similar to the G-MASTER 1 which one would you choose?
Thank you for your video. I think I would be very happy with the size/cost of this lens and might even consider selling my FE 16-35/2.8 GM II to get it and the 24-50/2.8 G for my A7CR based kit. Using that body a lot more now than even my A7RV when I travel or just walk around. Really need to sell off some other glass since I’m not really using those as much. Also think I may prefer these lenses to the Sigma 16-28/2.8 and 28-70/2.8 but really a head to head comparison should be done. Take care.
Sony showed us graphs and photo comparisons of the 16-25 and 24-50 compared to those Sigma (and Tamron) lenses and these are much sharper than the 3rd party alternatives.
@@DylanBlackburn Thank you for feedback on how the 3rd party lenses compare to these new Sony G versions. Any feedback on how the new 16-25/2.8 G and 24-50/2.8 G compare to Sony’s own 24/2.8 G, 40/2.5 G and 50/2.5 G primes that are nice and small? Do wish the Sony primes were f/2 like the Sigma I-Series.
Thanks for factoring in size because most people brush it off.
Size is one of the most important factors to me when it comes down to using a lens. Equally as important as sharpness in my honest opinion.
When is this lens for sale ?
On sale tomorrow and releasing in May!
Great job on the review. I'm also not a wide shooter, I guess it might be good in really constrained spaces. I need to find something 24-50 ish to compliment my 70-200 when shooting archery.
Is there something about the recently announced 24-50 that you don’t like?
@@DylanBlackburn It looked a bit big at first glance but I meant to compare it to other options. (the 70-200 is my only lens bigger than the 24/40 G primes lol) Also I do not like lenses that extend...
@@PhilKnall I would say we share pretty similar sentiments on lens choices but I still thoroughly enjoyed the 24-50. Don’t knock it until you try one out maybe!
@@DylanBlackburn I'll have to check it out!
Expecting next G compact zoom was 50-150 or 70-150 f2.8 would be awesome!
Fingers crossed we get it!!
I think the sigma 16-28 better . It’s sharp light and doesn’t retract .
For the price of the Sigma, you can’t beat it
Might sell my sigma 14-24 for this. Much lighter
Not a bad idea! Years ago I owned the 12-24 f/4. Kinda miss it
Funny, I really hesitate between the sigma 14-24 or this new lens 😂
But despite the age, I love the sigma art for conceptual photography, I need to try the Sony to see if it worth it and if 16mm is enough for creativity perspective
