Great video and very inspiring. I've toyed with starting a channel myself but I've decided against it. My primary photography focus is my family and I don't want to put my kids on UA-cam. I also don't want to take time away from them to concentrate on what would essentially be another job. I enjoy photography (mostly) and don't want to lose that enjoyment but trying to make a job from it.
I must say that you've been a huge inspiration for me though. I now explore my local area more with my camera, thanks to you. I've also switched from Fuji to Sony based mostly from your videos and I couldn't be happier!

I made some silent hiking/photography videos on my channel last year. I think the hardest part for me is that it’s the photography that I actually really enjoy, not so much the video filming/editing. Still, I keep considering making more videos 🤷🏻‍♂️

Totally agree. Especially about the social aspect you mentioned, UA-cam is the rare social media where people still group together around an interest and (albeit not as much as on the message boards of old) have meaningful conversation and connections. I really enjoy the comments I get on my videos.

I wish the holding the microphone trend would die down 😭😂 to me, it just looks ridiculous when people do it. I saw one person holding an 18inch microphone longer than their head that was supposed to be attached to a boom arm, and I had to stop watching that one because that was too far 😂😭
Love the video though, good message in it. I’m pretty into photography as an art form, used to run a fairly successful business doing weddings and portraits but stopped because to me felt like it was sucking away what was fun. 90% of those shoots are snapshots, and only the handful of shots where I have time to setup a nice creative shot. Those creative shots are what I love about photography, so now I do it exclusively for myself/don’t take clients.
I’m considering starting a UA-cam channel for aspiring self taught software engineers however, I have some video ideas and it’s exactly what I did without a degree or bootcamp, but it was a rough road and I’d like to give my 2 cents to help the next person not make the same mistakes. Again, LOVED the video, don’t take the microphone comment personally! You do you, it’s my own personal gripe 😂

This video is so refreshing! I must say I got very tired of all the gear reviews (2015-2024) and i care much more about a good story. They actually made me disengage from photography altogether a few years ago because I was so caught up in gear. You’ve definitely inspired me to create more.

This makes me want to start a channel for myself and start taking more pictures, while sharing a few things I learned and hopefully find some like minded people along the way.

I found your channel because I was wanting to learn all about the A7C! Stayed on your channel because of the Route 66 tour! Haven’t started my channel because where to start with the editing process is a lot!

This is tough. My suggestion is only do it for the community.
My channel is extremely small, and personally its not worth the 60 hours/month of work for $200/month of ad revinue.
For the VAST majority of photographers its simply not worth it.
Its usually a poor use of time oustide of the personal connections within a community you will build. For that reason only i havent quit on UA-cam. If you are married and have kids, forget about it.

Unless you have a lot of time to spend on the computer, I say NO. Basically, out of your audience, who cares. No one cares. Photos of family are far important, documenting work done on the house, photos and videos of trips to remember is great, but other than that, No One Cares. Photography is more personal unless you are living from photography, like in magazines, newspapers, advertisements, weddings or portraits.
