To all the people who keep suggesting to use a circular saw with a backwards blade, DON'T. It's dangerous, it ruins the blade, it's deafeningly loud, throws metal everywhere, and you can throw your carbide tips. Just buy a blade made for cutting metal, or better yet- use a nibbler or shears. Also, don't use a grinder. They burn the paint and leave the panel prone to rusting. Gary was actually cutting the metal in one of the best ways. The snips are quiet, safe, don't leave metal shards on the ground, and they pinch the edge of the metal which helps protect the edge from rusting.
Idea for the last two roof panels: Use clear or obscure poly roof panels and flood the room with light.

Make a vent in the door. A screen that can be closed off in winter.
why not just put chicken wire at the top.willgive you the air flow. You would not need to close it up till winter. It would work great for the goats as well. Winterwill not bother them as much.
Why not put the luvver cutouts...one in the door and the other on the opposite wall in the same place...that will make it easier to cut-out the one side and frees up the one side for pens without cut-outs!
They probably make a dampener with a fan that’ll open the “flaps when the fan comes on. Idk if they have a solar powered one but I know they make fans with dampness that open with the fan. Goats too. Air will flow into the lower areas where the animals are then rising up (Heat Rises) to the roof vents creating air flow even if the wind is not blowing.

I worked in a large chicken house one summer for extra cash and all of the large fans were low a running 24/7in the summer.
Why didn't you just take a grinder to the tips of those screws to take the sharp tips off?

here is a thought i had, you could put rain gutter on the "barn" and collect the rain water into a storage that feeds water to the animal so basically you do not need to give the animals water becasue the rain takes care off that.
what i am thinking is that you can have one rain gutter to provide water for the animals that is outdoors and the rain gutter on the other side to provide water for the animals inside the "barn".
maybe it is a bad thought i dunno.

Maybe for vents... those automatic foundation vents . They open and close on the outside temperature
If you can figure how to wire them a cheap bathroom exhaust fan on both ends would help remove the heat.
It looks super nice. As others have suggested, perhaps put clear panels on the remaining roof that needs to be covered. I’ve seen this done on other channels for barns especially for calves and full size cattle barns. You’re making great progress! Best wishes!
Ok, you guys are putting up the barn walls the real slow way. I understand the need to cap the screw tips and I applaud you for reusing the scraps. So most wood is soft when it sits out for a while in the weather. Your whole purpose is to cap the sharp tips so just run the screws on the metal panels. Next, come back and push the strips against the section of wall tips to cover. This will leave an indention. Get a deadman hammer (Sand-filled head). Hold the boards up against the screw tips and tap away. When the boards are embedded into the screw heads screw into the outside boards to secure them. If you have any construction adhesive that would be better than the screws. Drywall screws will rust fairly quickly in the presence of moisture.
I am concerned about how the building is being held down. By what method did you secure the building to the ground? I am also concerned that the roof structure will not hold up under snow loads. Have you considered ways to bolster the structure? Even two poles vertically installed under all 4 arches during the snow season would greatly improve things. Get a 2x4 and nail another 2x4 to form a T shape. Take that and put another 2x4 on the other side to form a semi-plus shape +. This can be set so the top end is slightly offset to form a U shape at the top. Make it long enough to rest on a concrete block on the ground. This can be placed in during the snow season and stored when not.
I am going to guess that you will use pallets for the floor which is a good reuse idea. Make sure to spread a generous amount of diatomaceous earth on the ground before you set the pallets. Place a layer of plastic then the pallets. this will help mitigate the moisture influx. You will have to figure out how the land slopes in that specific area to know how to mitigate problems with flooding.
It looks so cool, and finished just in time for the chickens today. I hope there isn't too many casualties in transit. Build it and they will come.

Ha ha ha, why not just Grind off the end of the screws sticking out of the wood.
My son actually used a utility knife and it would just snap when gently bent.

That only works going down the long side, not across the ribs.
Rather than dragging the ladder around you could still have the ventilation at the top and just use some more of the scrap wood to build a step stool high enough to reach, then keep it in the shed you're putting beside there so it's always in the animal tier

What if you put a tranluscent panel at the top of the peak to let light in. The louver vents should work and could certainly be sealed in the winter tight.

You can use pool noodles cut to size then covered in either leather or burlap bag material around the doors you cut out for the animals so your animals can't get cut on the edges.
Looks good just a idea on the inside you may want if you have mill wood around the bottom because when you use it for goats they are goats and butt heads and walls. I forget what UA-cam farm had the barn wall baned up by goats.

I can't give any advice for your projects, but it seems to be coming right along! I'm probably 300 miles to your southwest, DFW area, and this so far has been the best gardening in several years locally. We are getting rain, which has been hard to come by for a few years now.

You have came along way . Everything is looking so good. Great job .
If you need cross ventilation, just go to the rear of the building where the upper triangle is and make those two triangles hinged to open outwards. Put the hinge on the long bottom side and put the top corner on a short chain. Heat will rise and this combined with the open door will move air out that way. Make the door a Dutch door so you can have the door half open to allow air in but keep it so the dogs and other animals can't just walk in. You will also have to deal with critters digging in under the walls. If you trench around the outside down about 2 feet you just have to install heavy gauge wire at a 45-degree angle. You then backfill and bury the wire. A small solar-powered light would not be a bad idea. You could also run an extension cord in conduit via a trench out for power. If you line the walls with foil back material the inside will stay better at the temps you need. Heat will be reflected away and if a heater is used in winter the heat will stay inside more.
Maybe put chicken wire up there that won’t interfere with the open and closing of the triangle to help keep out critters that might try to get to the birds or whatever is housed in the barn..

Maybe a screen door And a regular door for when it’s cold. A solar fan seems also like a great idea. I am impressed at what you were able to do with 100% repurposed stuff! Looks great! I agree with others about doing a rain catchment for easy water for the animal area.
For future reference: The self-drilling roof panel screws that you are using are not made for wood. Those are made for metal to metal applications. I would avoid using them in wood because they create a weak attachment. Regular sharp point roofing screws will easily push through a roof panel, or you can pre-drill and they are made for metal to wood installations.
With all that rain coming your way you all need those water barrels
You should consider a water catchment, coming off that metal roof to automatically fill the goats water.
For ventilation you could make a screen door instead of a regular door for your entry, put small hole hard ware cloth on the door and for winter you could have a piece of tin cut to fit the screen door.
Gary turn your skill saw blade around. On it use old blade and skill saw. A tick I know. Take care my friends from the great white north. ❤
Forgot it's to cut your Metal roof
Another way to cut corrugated metal is to put a circular saw blade in the saw backwards ( teeth facing down ) and cut it that way. It works like a charm. Safety glasses and gloves needed for sure. Give it a try you’ll be surprised how quick it make the task.

Maybe sliding door into the fenced area. Something you can close. And the opening window with chicken wire and shutters you can close for winter is a very good idea. Remember I just suggest. Your place. Do your thing. That what makes the videos special.

Put a door at the back as well then you can take the goat pasture around the back of the shed so the access to the pasture is easy for the goats etc.

For hot summers you are better having vents/flaps that can be open at ground level to allow air through with vents in the roof to allow heat to escape. A good idea is to leave a gap at the top of the sheeting then put a raised centre cap on top.
We had chickens in the tropics where it is always hot and this system worked well.

The chicken need light too. Leave that bit on the roof, it’s got no metal roof yet. Just get Perspex and attach to the area and the the top of the back wall and it will act as a window

Great job guys😁👍🏼. I will suggest not putting any big animals in that building like goats 🐐 or pigs 🐖 or anything bigger than chickens or rabbits. Because that thin metal frame with all the weight you’ve added with the heavy slab wood as soon as big animals such as goats 🐐 pigs 🐖 ect get to pushing against the walls that metal Frame is highly likely to bend & collapse. Unless it’s really thick metal, which I don't think it is, I think it’s only designed for canvas or tarp material covering only not all that weight that you’ve added. Because now you have compromised the strength of that small tubular metal by screwing screws ect into it. That’s why I suggest only putting small animals that won’t be pushing and leaning on those walls or you may have a collapsed disaster on your hands. I will be surprised if it holds up to any abuse from animals or weather. But if It does good for you, but I wouldn’t bet the farm on it.
If I’m not mistaken that tubular frame isn’t thick gauge steel only pop metal and only designed for a Makeshift shelter with only a canvas or tarp material over it without much weight bearing down on it & definitely not designed for live animals bearing any weight against it. Now had you bent rebar to run along side the frame and attached it to give the tubular metal extra strength from not being able to bend because of the extra strength of the rebar being sistered up beside it.... Then I’d have confidence in it not collapsing. But knowing what that metal frame is really designed for, I’d not Trust it to hold up to weather ( High wind, Snow load) and animal pressure bearing against it. I’m just giving you my opinion based on the metal frame thickness & integrity. If it was mine I’d get me some rebar and bend it to go all along the frame and use some small metal hose clamps and attach it to the frame to give it strength. Because I doubt the metal is thick enough to tack weld the rebar to it, but either way small rebar running all along that frame will make the frame have a 75% less chance of ever collapsing due to stress. I understand the whole concept of utilizing what you had to build the building & I admire that. But Just try and visualize what I’m sayin about the residual strength of that metal frame. I never seen the video of the Metal frame going up, but if I had to guess from the looks of it I’d say it’s a frame that takes a tarp to make a makeshift outbuilding like you stored your things in when you first moved there . ? If I’m correct then Yeah those building frames aren’t of thick enough metal to be adding all that extra wood and metal siding weight to. And Definitely not designed to have livestock in them putting weight against them.
Just my take on the situation & if it were mine to prevent any chance of collapsing I’d go get me some smaller diameter rebar easier to bend and run rebar synched up tight or tack welded if the metal is thick enough all around that frame to give it the strength from not ever bending to a collapse.
That’s just my opinion, But opinions are like A**holes everyone has one, and I also know some stink more than others ! 😂🤣

For chicken coop ventilation, you want your coop vented all year, especially during the winter. It's not a good idea to close your coop up in the winter. It causes moisture problems, frost bite, and sickness.

If you turn your blade backwards in your circle saw you can cut 5 sheets at a time easy and fast.

I would go with the clear ply roof panel it will let light in and some heat for all the animals and its easier to check the animals in the dark
