Trekking Solo In The Highlands | Cape Wrath Trail EP 5

- Hey everyone! Thank you for sticking around this far to watch the 5th part of my Cape Wrath series - it's been a long one haha!
In this video, I start my journey at Craig, after a very wet and stormy night! I head on to Kinlochewe which is really the half way point, here I refuel, try and get some stocks but realise I should go onto Ullapool as they're wasn't many options for freeze dried food. I head from Kinlochewe to Taggan in order to wild camp then headed to the Shenevall bothy the following day which was a long old day, then onwards to Ullapool where I spent the night, bought the famous fish and chips and went out for a beer with a few people from the trail :) After, feeling re engergised and washed, I headed to Bridge of Orchy bridge, passing the lovely bothys on route.
I hope you enjoy!

So nice to lean back on the couch and watch while you do the hiking for us :-)
Some channels promote hiking and outdoor life with videos loaded with sunshine and blue sky, but you show us what trekking with a tent in this part world actually consists of; changing conditions with all kinds of weather, and mile after mile with bogs, gravel and paths of all sorts. Much appreciated!!
I enjoy hiking, too, but it's winter where I live, so I'm watching from my Lazyboy chair.
Thank you for you comment, appreciate it!
@@GirlOutdoors You're welcome! I very much enjoy your channel, Bushwacker
Man's, and Louise's. ^^
Saturday night viewing sorted! Brilliant again. This one brought back memories from 50 years ago. Walking from the beautiful Loch Maree; and having a Haggis supper at the chippy in Ullapool. You're a real inspiration Becky. If I wasn't 76 years old I'd be up there. Roll on part 6!
Haha thank you mate!
you make me laugh with the cows! I have worked on a dairy farm and cows are very rarely aggressive and even then its juts bluster. They are incredibly nosy though, which is why they stare so intently and it freaks people out. They are just bored and love anything new to stare at. These ones are doing the classic behaviour of thinking you are bringing something. The farmer must be due with some feed, so they are being very demanding. The classic screech moo at the end was a definite demand of where the food is and why are you leaving without feeding them! It brought a smile to my face. I love your attitude of just being calm and respectful around them.
This is a great comment, I learnt something today
@@peterjackson4132 I have so many stories about them! Once I noticed the year old herefords were all stood around staring at the ground for ages. I finally went in and had a look and it was a toy the farm dog had left in there! I also used to leave fallen branches in the field for the Hertford calves because they would play with them! Their curiosity gets them in some right pickles though 🤣
Ha ha, brilliant! We lived on a dairy farm for a while when I was very young. My Mum told me one day aged about 4, I took myself off for a walk down the lane. My parents and farm hands frantically searched for me for half an hour before finding me in the middle of a herd of very inquisitive Friesians!
Bushwacker man must be very proud of his lovely, resilient daughter. Great job Becky x
Really enjoying watching your journey through Scotland, thanks for taking us along with you.
You're in the serious mountain country there Becks. Shenevall is in the shadow of An Teallach. You will remember this solo trip for the rest of your life. Can't wait for the next one xx
Thank you! I sure will :)
I’m really enjoying this. Ullapool is a beautiful place, well worth the detour!
nice to meet people on the trail for a good chat
I think you found your new calling! The interviews were awesome and adds a new dynamic to your journey. You are quite good at travel journalism and I look forward to each new installment.
Whoever said southerners were soft hadn't reckoned on you ! I'm so glad I found you enjoying every step with you great stuff thanks hun x
Woooow that was awesome Beck's . My neck of the woods for sooo long , another lifetime ago, but great to see that familiar lumpy skyline .thanks for sharing spud x
Just got home from a morning bush walk (I'm an Aussie), Now it's breakfast while this 🥰 - Sunday mornings don't get much better! Love it!!
Love your videos, your attitude is great, and constant cheerfulness no matter the situation is inspiring. Open to whatever changes occur along the way. I also think you are very brave doing these trips. Wondering if you have ever watched Wildbeare videos? She is a single female probably about 10 years older than you who does wild camping trips in the mountains of Wales. She has same demeanor as you. You are both delightful to watch. I hope that you keep the videos coming.
Thanks. again Becky your doing so well .You are very positive , now the end is in sight hope you get dry and sunny 🌞 to the end.
I haven’t commented on your last couple of videos, but I have been watching and enjoying them. 👉🏻🇺🇸🇬🇧👈🏻👏👏👏👏
Just came across your channel, I love it and love Scotland I have relatives up there. You are living the dream enjoy
It shows how much you love what you do, with all of it bumps and blues. Congratulations on the Car!
Thank you Daniel!
The cows were not happy eh 😮 It sounded like it was being loaded into the raptor pen in Jurassic Park 😂.
Excellent vlog, I'm doing the trail next year and I'm so looking forward to it. I'll be taking a drone and a small night vision scope to film some wildlife and especially the lochs and mountains etc. Stunning area. Great videos and many thanks for sharing your journey 😊
When I lived in the Highlands and with a 4x4 until now with your vlog I never knew about these 4x4 trails. Reason being no good internet in 2002 all dial up. Now I must return to live there again and do more off road with a 4x4 with camera and camcorder ready, plus a drone.
I really love your videos, the tríps you do, the nice company, i get inspired actually, keep It up, nice video as always, cheers ✌️✌️
Love this worts and all style. Long distance trail walking is not for the faint hearted or those who don’t like to pong a bit. Great stuff thanks for continuing a great standard of vlogs.
Thanks Clive!
The way Leslie was describing her area of Ireland makes me want to go there too. lol. Thanks again, Becky. 🙂👍
Really fantastic videos 👏 Better than telly! Inspiring stuff.
Aye, Scotland is magic. Wild and romantic. But, on the other hand there are the endless bogs, midges and rainfall. But Becky seems to have the trekking bug, which lets her enjoy it all. I think, if you ain`t got that bug, you`d best stay at home.
Thank you so much! X
Great hike and effort Becky. I trying to save watching the next vid
Discovered your channel last week, been enjoying watching your updates on the Cape Wrath Trail, also watched your west highland way episodes, great to see your enthusiasm and positivity, it’s very inspiring. Stay safe and wish you well on your future travels.
Absolutely amazing I wish I could have to bravery you do this on my own. Love watching these especially at night in bed find them so relaxing 😌
Great stuff I have been thinking about doing the cwt myself it looks so cool. You done a great job logging the trip. Scotland is beautiful.
Thank you :)
I watched all your cape wrath walks, I don't know if I ever mentioned in a message how well you did, but every single video was awesome to watch. My hat comes off and thanks for sharing your adventures. Everyone that does this has balls of steel, it doesn't matter what sex you are. It must be so hard to do. So a big well done too you 👏 🙌 👍
Thank you Richard! Appreciate it :)
Im not surprised that your anlkes are suffering the amount of weight you’re carrying Becky! On the othe hand if you don’t suffer then it’s not worth it! Your trail will stay with you the rest of your days! Enjoy, you rock girl! 👣⛺️🦉👍😎
Really enjoying watching this journey!
Glad you enjoy it!
nice, you cannot be fooled by foolishness talks, something is in you still remembers me somewhere in time
This was a beautiful video and leslie and husband keith where so nice. There is a lovely song called my connemara marble ring .

this was another Great episode, this i so much enjoyed everything, looking forward to next vid, and thanks for sharing and ATB
what can I say.. Another great vid.. Love the running commentary. Your resilience and self motivation is outstanding. Cant wait for the next episode.. x
They cows were hilarious 😂 I was half expecting you to have to climb a tree to get out there way if they came after you.
I've been chased a couple of times. My girlfriend at the time jumped over a barbed wire fence and ripped her leg open. I threw her wee dog over the fence before climbing it. Another time in the dark I heard them running towards me. Just saw the outline if them and I backed into a gorse Bush 🤣🙈
I'm more cautious these days with them
Yes! Chilled Sunday with girl outdoors, nout better, well 43 minutes but it will do keep up the good work and top videos 👍🏻
Awesome! Thank you!
when i was your age i loved this too...backpacking in the mountains of colorado ....you remind me how much i miss this as i get older and broken down
oh ...I forgot..... we lived in Scotland for 4 years and you have the weather exactly right....beautiful one day and rainy the next
That was a great stage Becky some really nice people on the way your doing brilliant atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍
Thank you Jimmy!
Really enjoying these Becky, fantastic videos, epic trip so far, thank you!
Dear Becky, You have come a long way from 145 subscribers. To you lovely young lady All the Best...
When the sun comes out there are few places in the world as beautiful as the Scottish highlands
I've been laid up with very serious man flu and ear ache today..... really peed off..... Then this pops up and takes my mind off it all ..... cheered me right up......Also just heard a rumour Go outdoors in Colchester is shutting down and doing 50% off...... So I'm selling the kids and going there tomorrow to stock up on new gear. 👍.......Keep em coming cheeky chops 😁
Another corker Becky, well done. The pictures you took around the 20 minute mark are simply stunning. You are truly in your element I can see it in you face. Thanks
I love the sound of rain on my tent at nite!
awesome as always,my legs are aching just watching
Looks like you are making good time. Always a hard time after a resupply, but it gets lighter every day. Love listening to you talk, hearing expression I haven't heard since I lived in the UK many years ago. Nice that you had better weather on this video because the scenery is absolutely beautiful. Stay safe, healthy and strong. Looking forward to the next video.
I’ve found the sawyer micro squeeze has good flow rate - but as you say no issue with drinking straight out the streams in Scotland
Thanks for the video, glad you're meeting others . You will develop the traveler envies, and just keep listening to all those stories people have. Theirs and ones they have picked up. You can be a grand story teller one day. The grander the stories the better around the campfire.
Picking up and moving on to the next thing you will. My travels have changed me. I talk to complete strangers all the time now like I know them. Worlds a small place after all.
Love the upload and love that your exploring one of the most remotest parts of Scotland. I hope you managed to get to Sandwood Bay near Cape Wrath, a place I found so beautiful I want my ashes scattered there when I pass away.
The bothy looks so cozy 😍😍
Excellent vlog, such a beautiful area and never looks the same twice with the constantly changing Scottish weather 🦌
lov this video relly nice to see your walk and good poeple blessings take care davey east london E2
Love your Accent l am a Aussie love you watching your videos love what you saying fantastic
Hi, I enjoy looking at your travelogue. It is very well done and you portray the trail nicely. I admire your positive attitude and your perseverance. You take exactly the same route as I walked in May 2017, nice to look back at your images.
Really enjoying your CWT adventure Becky. As an Irish man living in Scotland and a relative new comer to this hiking and camping malarkey, I've done the West Highland Way, The Great Glen Way and The Annendale Way over the past two summers. This could be the next big one. Thanks for your inspiration and sharing your knowledge with us. And the laughs, I especially like how you pronounce more than one breakfast :D
Another brilliant video.you have put some miles Inn scenery is fantastic and hope weather was kind to you. X
I'm really enjoying and loving this series 👍👍👍🇵🇭
Shenavall bothy is indeed special. Stayed there to climb An Tellach, fantastic day. Prince Charles,(now King), stayed there when he was at Gordonstoun school, wonder who got the bothy book, signed HRH?
One I hope to do in the future, great upload
I had fish and chips in Ullapool as well, I was going to say there's a great outdoor shop there, but you had that sorted already. I arrived as it closed haha. Love you encounter with the cows, bloody ell they didn't like that, they are all staring :-). You do make me laugh. The highland cattle don't like to move out the way either. See you on the next vid
another great vid closer every day 🤘
I stayed at knockdamph bothy where you were sitting 😀 had a brew at the school house bothy had dinner at orkal bridge hotel 😀👌
Essential viewing for me Becky. You are one tenacious young woman and inspirational too.
Yes cows can run ,I know that for a fact as my sisters, brother and me were nearly mowed down by a herd when we were kids, mind you it was our fault as we had my Grandma's dog with us.
ATB.
Mick.
Aw thank you Mick! Ahaha oh no, glad you got away from the cows!
More stunning terrain, epic journey. Leslie is dead right about Connemara, wild Atlantic way, you should definitely pay it a visit one day!
Hello Becky, very nice video. So many beautiful views and landscapes. Some day I would love to photograph the waterfalls ....
Thank you for taking me with you .... I really enjoy your trip.
Many thanks!
These videos actually help me cope with my life. 23.00 mins there is no electricity in the bothy. To heat it you need to build a fire. It rains and there are midges. There is no path and 15 miles to walk. It puts all my problems into perspective.
Thank you so much for your comment! It truly does tell you what matters :)
Very beautiful my friend it is really wonderful
Great video. It’s like I’m walking with you, it’s very cool. It’s a lot of work doing all this, thank you for sharing !!
Keep on trekking !
I really enjoy your trekking clips, keep up the good work
I'm loving this. I can't wait for the next upload. Very inspiring x
Superb job this whole set has been. Loving it!!
Thanks for some great tips and advice - really helpful in my planning!
Becky, You have no idea how much I am loving this Cape Wrath video series. EPIC! And this particular episode brought back so many memories of my 2 week stay in the Kinlochewe area in 1997. I was 10 days in a B&B in Gairloch. Back in 1997 there was a nice campground in Gairloch. It had a laundry and small store. But who knows now. You should go back to the Torridon region of Scotland when you have time. The hiking in that area is simply awesome. I climbed Ben Eighe and Slioch whilst there. Please do "Liathach" for me 😁. The weather went to hell snowing before I could do it. The ridge walk on Liathach is one of the best in all of Scotland. The view of Loch Marie and the "Great Wilderness" from Slioch was spectacular. Loch Marie would be a great place to do a pack raft camping trip in my opinion. I would think you'd need at least a week's stay , 2 weeks would be better since the weather there is always sketchy :) :) Hi to Bushwhacker man Louise and your Mom!! LOVE ya...pete
Brilliant vlog Becky, lovely to see the weather is on your side for a change. So much goes into making these videos, well done girl, big stile..Keep loving the life, Brilliant to follow as always ❤
Becky your amazing. Your determination and strength is absolutely an inspiration to us all. Your going to change so many lives for the better, I believe that. I always watch a Girl Outdoors when I'm feeling lazy or unmotivated. You lift the spirit up. If I could keep up with you, lol. Would love to do the Arizona trail or Mogollon Rim region of Arizona. We got Sasquaches up there they say. Lots of reports anhway. Keep inspiring us Becky. We love your videos.
Aw thank you so much for your comment, they trails will be great!
the 12 bens and that part of ireland are amazing, spent part of our honeymoon there 24 years ago. stunning and worth a visit.
Enjoying following your epic journey. Good to see your take on this trail after watching Haze and WWWallace doing this. Lucky enough to live up the Highlands and enjoy munroing but haven't got the guts to take on CWT. Good on ya.
This is good content. I'm looking forward to the next episode.
Thank you.
Great watch just love the videos, feels like am walking in Scotland too.
Another great video, and glad you said the Summit to Eat meal was nice, bought a load of them for my own WHW trip! Everyone raves about the Real Turmat meals but they are SO expensive.
Hi becky dave here just watched the video looks like you had a great time the scenery beautiful 😍 you should be so proud love I know I've a lot of respect for you lv
Great episode enjoyed it looking forward to next best wishes thanks for sharing
Wee bothy's look so cozy, another great vid Beck,s x
Thanks Alan!
Well done and keep up the calories with all that hard work 🤩💯👌🏽 your snack we’re awesome 👏🏽 thanks for the great footage and insight on your wonderful journey ☺️
Well done! Really enjoying your trip and re-living my own CWT 'attempt' from April this year. Just back from another jaunt to this amazing area of the Highlands, so Episode 5 is very timely :) Everything is so variable on the CWT and this makes it a very different time of trail. I loved the fact that you end up almost making it up as you go along based on the weather, the conditions under foot and listening to your body ... I hope you make it to the lighthouse, good luck!
Well done Becky great vids, impressed with your Nav skills 👍👌
I like to watch your channel I start to do hiking or backpacking and your videos gives me a lot of advice in Howe to start camping so thank you for that
Becky you've done it again, I think this was the most colorful terrain yet. I think Scotland gets more rain than Oregon if thats possible. Great video, better and better!
Aw thanks so much man. Haha that is crazy! Speak soon :)
Today's rain is tomorrows whisky ☔👉🥃😉.
I used to take the tealight candles but changed to battery festive lights after seeing them used in a bothy👍
Another great video, well done 👏
The track up to the coolen pass was a pain for me it was a hot day. The track was slippy plus the midge's in the Forrest 😂 nice when you get to the top of the hill. I walked all over the pass and found a good camping spot by the river at the bottom. They wouldn't let me stay at the hostel in Craig
Beautiful as always. The scenery is nice as well. ;)
Congrats on a great effort, from a native! Thoroughly enjoying your travels
Cheers John
Another great episode, your are really pushing on now.
Proper Lush this one. Carry on steadfast explorer.
How do you keep yourself safe out there? I would be terrified lol. I absolutely love your content! What adventures!
Best part, beer in hand! haha
I may have mentioned this before but I have not worn walking boots for some time. Wellington's are a Godsend for dry feet. I do not suffer from blisters either. The only injury as such, has been cracked heels in the Sahara, which is normal for Africa. On mention of Ireland, I would love to kayak around it, being only 12 miles from Scotland.
was looking out for your new video. enjoying your trekking adventure :-)
Thanks so much!
Lovely and ty.
