Thanks- one thing I found useful when camping
You can buy 50 or so empty ‘boil in the bag’ bags for only 2-3 quid from kitchen shops like Lakeland or online . I put individual portions of porridge, raisins etc in each one and add a couple of scoops of Marvel. Just pour in the hot water straight from the stove. They weigh nothing
This way you know at a glance how many breakfasts for each day of the trip you have left.
More importantly you can have milky porridge without accidentally spilling a large bag of everywhere, or having to scrap/clean any pot.

Yes I’ve been snarled by the Bog Monster on a few occasions, the slimy beast within puts up a good battle to swallow first your legs, then your body and finally your head. I’ve had to beat the monster into submission with my pacer poles too.

Same but I was lucky I dropped straight down but my pack save me from going further, swamp area on ex, weight of pack was 45 plus kgs, got towed out and called every called every name under the sun. Was still shaking hrs later, it does sap your strength. Good on you 4 handling. All the best. Had 2 share. Ps this is in newzealand. God bless.

Nice to watch about Cap Wrath. I went to UK in 2018, first in Corwall and then, step by to step to Scotland, hiking, biking, running and canoeing. Cap Wrath is a kind of mythic place and I wanted to do it by kayaking despite people saying to me that it was dangerous. So I got a very good 3 days weather opportunity to do it from South to North, camping on beach. But unfortunately I lost the key of my car-roof where I put my paddles!! I found it at the end of the first day and said bye-bye to my 3 days kayaking trip. But I started the trip from the North and did half of the way in round trip. I can say that the water is very very cold there, the currents stron, and the landscape very wild. Nobody on the way. Next day the weather changed and I could have seen what Wrath means... from the shore. In your video I have learnt how I can call the big holes we can find on the wet terrain, somehow dangerous: bogs which you have tested with your poles )) I watch with pleasure that you don't skimp your gear and have a pretty heavy backpack, better for your comfort and your security. So do I, regardless the lightweiht fashion. Best regard, Dundjack (France)

Something I got taught by an ex RMC was to empty the bottle of talcum powder into a dry bag that’s big enough for you to put your foot in. Then when you need to talc your feet you just stick them in the bag and it just makes it easier to get between your toes and everything without it going everywhere. x

It’s a big learning curve to strip out the unnecessary weight and items but that comes with experience and research. Kit has greatly lightened over the last several decades, love the Altras too! Hope to see you do a similar distance path next year, keep up the great work Becky! ❤️

The sawyer squeeze (not mini) has a better flow rate, and use 2 cnoc bags and hang one on your bag as you walk. There's a connector you can buy that joins the two together so the exit end of the filter has the blue bag attached and the end that attaches to your bottle has the "dirty" water bag attached. I use an orange coloured to hold dirty and blue for the filter. So I attach the orange to my bag and dander as it filters into the blue bag.

Great idea to post what worked well & any regrets regarding kit etc so that people can benefit from your experience. As I commented before I am full of admiration for you, a young girl carrying that weighty pack over all that distance, ascents & rough terrain & dealing with the mental challenges which that brings which can sometimes outweigh the physical demands. Loved the series Becks & will always follow your new adventures xx

Well done on completing your trek, I really enjoyed the series, it brought back quite a few memories as you passed through a lot of very familiar territory that I am very unlikely to visit ever again for various reasons.
Gear lists are interesting things. The usual weight of my gear back in the 80's 90's for spring through autumn was around 12 kilos all in, including food for around 3 days or so. No camera, phone, walking poles or electronics. Honed everything to a bare minimum over time.
Saunders jetpacker tent, Condor rucksack (65 litres is all you need) down bag w 600 grms fill, opinel, spoon, map, compass, whistle, sigg bottle, edilrid scorpion, stove, pot, karrimat and a family size pack of chocolate homewheat biscuits, and you could go anywhere in the hills. I still have most of the gear, but not the biscuits, they're long gone. I actually went and looked my gear out after the second episode, touched it a bit, then stuck back in the box where it resides. The last time I used that old tent in some heavy Scottish weather it leaked like a sieve with the horizontal rain.

I caught Lymes in Scotland. I've been in the Highlands since 1984 and had loads of ticks but never Lymes. This time it was really itchy and I had the tell tale bullseye rash. Within 2 weeks I was feeling shit. Constant headaches, dizzy spells, faint. Went to doctor and went straight on antibiotics. After that I was fine. That's my experience. Now I use Permethrin on my clothing and repellent on my body. Don't let it stop you enjoying the wilderness, just take precautions.

    I’m an old boy… ish..
I used to stay out for days in Scotland since I was a boy around 11 years old around 1971 ish and B4 I even knew what a tent or a sleep bag was.
(I did know the midges could always be there though 😂).
Anyway done lots since then 😊
Watched all your videos and thank you for bringing a great smile to me and clearly lots of others.
Your parents clearly done a great job, but of course ..

You did such a great job presenting your trip and I still mis coming home to a new installment of your adventure. I bet you really missed being on-trail as well and probably went through some depression going home since it becomes a life style, (at least I do at the end of my trips so, sorry for being presumptuous if that's not so). You are so skilled at documenting your journey and enable your viewers to really feel like they are tagging along. You are unpretentious and maintain your poise, staying on-task to get the job done despite the adversities you encountered. This de-briefing is really important and interesting as well. SUPER JOB, GIRL OUTDOORS, and Thank You for bringing so many of us the beauty and joy of your journey!!!

Wonderful rap up Becky. I don't feel like you can talk to much, I love your voice. On the Kendall's mint cake, not sure how long they have been around, but I'm sure I was eating them in the mid sixties while hiking. On foot ware, you must have what will work for YOU, regardless what anyone else will tell you---without your feet you are going nowhere. Hoping you have a wonderful fall/winter season with lots of camping to share with us. I have loved all of your videos so far Becky, keep them coming.

AWESOME B ECK'S proud blue tent ..cool my eyes never went weird in the mornings with my old karrimor , (spent 8 months in it highlands ) orange insides play with your vision . weight my nikon gear weiged 6kg without filters and pod .midges.. the Scott's put me onto skin so soft , really worked too. cheaper than bug sprays .. you can smother yourself in it or be frugal it works and works well ..i found anything down suffered ( anyone doing extreme hikes knows) down is out ! unless its test gear .. you can dump it eventually as newer naterials come along , fantastic videos ..Becks ..im sticking to photos ( having a face for radio ) 😀 remember WET IS YOUR FRIEND 😂😂 one other thing ... following small trails some are deer trails or sheep tracks .. and lead in circles ..or out into the wilderness . always check maps and the horizon detail .. dont think because your on a trail its fine .. if your on a single footed trail 1-2 foot wide your off your mark check it ! ! once you goal out ( finsh your mission ) anything goes getting home , theres no shame in it . im a north to.south person . it has its benefits , theres showers in ullapool.. between the outdoor shop and the ferry car park up the steps .to the left .. lockable with a dry area for gear

I love your enthusiasm after doing this trail! I would love to get over to the UK or Europe. This may be at or near the top of my list for potential UK backpacking trips.
I've only seen one of those huge gas cans before. On my hike of the Appalachian trail I was just south of Harpers Ferry and met a south bound hiker that was just starting out from there. He had one of those. I didn't even know they made them that big at the time. I was kind of shocked. I only used my stove for dinners and I went through exactly 3 of the 220g/8oz canisters in 5.5 months.

I was lucky enough to get the very last ferry run of the season when I was up there, not the CWT but the SNT, same end point though. As a point, if you can't contact him, his sister works at the camp site in Durness so it could be another source for info.
To add as well about the minibus from Durness. The driver is less than friendly and a middle aged boy racer or just highly stressed. We made it in time for train but not before luggage went flying, a passenger caught herself at the last minute as he slammed the brakes on to avoid hitting a car. It was hilarious but at the same time he looked annoyed and was completely unapologetic. Just a thing to keep in mind, next time I am up there I am heading to John O'Groats I reckon but the Durness campsite is lovely.
Good tip on the ball for your feet, I just use a tennis ball but it feel likes a professional massage at the end of a long day's hiking..!

Your Cape Wrath Trail video adventure was extra outstanding and wonderfully done. Scotland is a beautiful place. It is better to have it and not need it than not have and need it. Good planning is key to a successful trip and you planned very well then next time you will know just what you will need. Noticed you have 117K subscribers now. Even this video is well put together and noticed your set up close to the relief station. Crack on and have a wonderful day.

Great, this has answered a few questions I had after watching the series of vids for this, I really enjoyed following your progress, and seeing the wonder of the Scottish Highlands, and what a great achievement, well done!

I got one of those massage balls (similar one, larger spikes and doesn't come apart) in a goodie bag from doing a 10K a few years ago. I was sceptical but it's really effective, I've used it when I've tweaked a calf muscle and at the moment to help my recovery from plantar fasciitis.
I've been recommending your channel on Walk Highlands to a guy planning his own CWT trip and trying to decide if he should go Easter or Autumn, so this will be a big help to a lot of people.

GO, I think the model of your Rab sleeping bag is Neutrino (new tree no); neutrogena is a company that makes skincare products that you may have. Great trip and recap. I liked how you rebounded from down times and chugged on.

    Well done!
Could I suggest researching how local people pronounce place names when going to new countries as well as preparing your route and kit?😉

I watched Haze Outdoors (UA-camr) walking the Cape Wrath trail and he came across several dead deer in several rivers - probably best to always filter your drinking water! But good you didn't get sick!

I take care with rucksacks too because I have a long back. I recently tried buying a daysack in France and couldn’t find one that didn’t have the hip belt round the bottom of my rib cage! I eventually found a decent size with the help of Cotswold Camping in Aberdeen. Ended up with an Osprey 38 litre which will do nicely. Hopefully you can find one with a shorter back, it will be much more comfortable!

@@GirlOutdoors what I liked about Cotswold was that there was no ‘hurry up’ pressure. I was able to take lots of time and fuss about checking pouches and compartments etc. it helped of course that it wasn’t my first rodeo (I am the Imelda Marcos of rucksacks) but they were very helpful :)
BTW I think you dodged a bullet on the water filtering. I lost count of the amount of times I’ve crawled through a dead sheep in a stream whilst training back in the day, and I watched a mate of mine turn himself inside out after he decided not to bother with puritabs one time :)
I’ve had dysentery twice (once in Afghanistan and once in Cambodia) and I really wouldn’t want to risk it on a remote path…
