I really doubt the knight is purely hollow, because if he was purely hollow then surely the Pale King would have made him into the Pure Vessel instead of the current older one that turned into The Hollow Knight.
I don’t think the Knight is hollow. Throughout the game it seems like it definitely has thoughts and some feelings. Maybe that’s just me though. I just think that since they’re also an imperfect vessel, they aren’t fully hollow.

Having recently gotten the endings of the game, I really appreciate how the Hollow Knight is possibly the least hollow character. Ironically having will strong enough to actually resist being controlled at times. Love this stuff.
It's ironic that the title refers to both the player and the hollow knight. To the character named so, and to the character who is truly hollow. As I do believe that the knight is a pure vessel due to the games ending where the knight becomes the new keeper of the infection
It’s truly ironic, because that very will is what made him controllable, the radiance controls the will and mind of others, the vessels were supposed to be mindless and without will, but clearly the pale king was wrong.
what I find truly fascinating is how the fandom has kind of just collectively decided that, when not infected - Hollow is a gentle giant who hates violence (though they will fight if they have to), even though there isn't actually any evidence in-game of this. Having emotions and wanting to make your father proud does not equal pacifism, yet everyone has agreed that: "oh yeah, if Hollow wasn't infected they wouldn't hurt a fly!". it's ADORABLE and i love it, but i also think it's really interesting how everyone went "yeah, is facts." technically out of nowhere

And also ironically he thought he only needed one "hollow" knight but in the dream no more ending all of the siblings helped to kill the radiance

Ok I was not ready for the feels. HK really has been put through a lot of pain and suffering. That suffering only got worse when the Radiance was able to take control of HK due to their desire to be with PK again. But in the end, HK has earnt their rest.

If you really think about it, this IS the second best ending for thk since the infection caused him great pain, it may be better for him to rest in bug heaven.

Here a story about the true ending for yall. Btw this contains spoilers so be prepared if you want to read this. This took forever and I hope you enjoy. The little vessel lay on the ground, the Hollow Knight standing over it. It knew it was about to die. But as soon as the vessel braced itself for the sharp nail to dig through its body, it heard a stab from somewhere else. It opened its eyes and looked up to see that the Hollow Knight had stabbed itself instead. The Hollow Knight spoke to the little vessel, dying. It said, "T-take the dream n-nail, and end this all. P-please. It's w-what they would've w-wanted you to do." The little vessel had no idea who 'they' were, but did as it was told. It charged the dream nail and hit the Hollow Knight. The little vessel then saw it - the source of this infection - The Radiance. It fought long and hard to defeat her, but it was weak and couldn't withstand the power within the Radiance. But as soon as it thought all hope was lost, a darkness started to rise- the abyss. The little vessel regenerated and focused on the reason why it was here. To stop the infection. It climbed up to the Radiance as the siblings rose up with it. After another battle, the shade of none other than the Hollow Knight emerged from the darkness. "So they were dead." The little vessel thought. But something was happening. The void inside of the little vessel wanted out, and it wanted out now. It embraced the void inside and knew what it was to do. The Radiance was defeated. The hive mind it created was gone. But the little vessel awoke to see the Hollow Knight's shade. It looked down and saw that it was void as well. The Hollow Knight moved closer and said, "You did it. You stopped the infection." It gave the little vessel a hug. "Now let's go." It said. "We can finally be free."

The Hollow Knights story is so incredibly sad. The idea instilled was probably from the Pale King drilling it into his/its head that he/it must save the kingdom from the infection. I can only imagine that he/it would be hanging there in the Black Egg for god knows how long, the idea of having to do a good job, to make his/its father proud. It's just super sad.
My heart hurts so much right now I swear the lore to Hollow Knight is so complex and sad that it breaks my mind but that’s something I love about this game and gosh dang it the pure vessel/the Hollow Knight breaks my heart by how sad his story is

Yeah this is amazing, but to be honest pretty much every single animator (not a crew) who is not full of themselves make self deprecating comments about themselves, including people who made incredible job, crews, usually not because they are afraid they will belittle the effort of their crew which is rude, but single animators like myself do that all the time, dont worry i dont hate myself, i just wanna make it clear that i still have room to improve, and hopefully this is how other animators have in their minds too when they make self deprecating comments about themselves and their work, dont yourselves pls :)

I'm gonna cry. I keep watching this over and over and I just feel so bad for Desmond... Yes, I gave the Hollow Knight a name. His name is Desmond and he's a good boi. Since Hornet and Ghost have names already, I figured I'd give THK a name as well. I know it's not a badass name like Hornet or Ghost, but it's a name gifted to him with plenty of love.
I like how technically the knight is both the villain and the hero as the only reason the knight is there is cause the hallow knight showed emotion so that had to replace with a different “vessel” if you will
"Then you'll smile and tell me that I finally did enough" That part combined with the image.... I have rewatched this like 10 times in the last 2 days, and every time I break down crying. This is so good. I Personally wish you had done the whole song, because then I would see more of this. Also am I the only one who thinks the pale king got corrupted in some way and thats what lead to him doing what he did? Sorry, mini rant here, but it is said in the lore that he raised the vessels as his own, meaning there was a period of time where for each and every vessel, he did love and care for them. But the void corrupts, same with the radiance. So something tells me our wyrm god just couldn't fight the war on two fronts in his head, and it drove him partially mad. I can totally imagine a man that after he left all the rest of the vessels to die, if not straight up killed, would cry himself to sleep every night with guilt, only his duty keeping him waking up each day. And then, when his duty was done and he thought he had contained the radiance at the cost of his last child, he died in his grief on his thrown. For heavy is the head that wears the crown.
As much as I would like to, I can't be sorry for the king. Not much for the abyss thing, that's "understandable" and although it's horrendous, I understand the plan. But. After all your children were sacrificed, you finally selected the perfect one, and you had only one, ONE thing to do: make sure that that vessel stayed pure. And instead what did you do? You couldn't resist the urge to show affection towards it, which is understandable once more, but come on! Not only that, but the king knows that the problem was him showing affection towards his son, and the queen knows it too. I suspect that they kinda knew that the vessel might have been faulty even before sealing him, but that they went on anyways hoping for a miracle or to just take time. So not only did they set him up for failure, they condemned the hollow knight to an existence of pain (which imo is worse than death), willingly. And I just can't forgive that.

Yeah this is amazing, but to be honest pretty much every single animator (not a crew) who is not full of themselves make self deprecating comments about themselves, including people who made incredible job, crews, usually not because they are afraid they will belittle the effort of their crew which is rude, but single animators like myself do that all the time, dont worry i dont hate myself, i just wanna make it clear that i still have room to improve, and hopefully this is how other animators have in their minds too when they make self deprecating comments about themselves and their work, dont yourselves pls :)
i love the detail that the vessel is lifted up by the chains and visably corrupted cause for once they acually felt something and now their corrupted because of it

Yes, I gave the Hollow Knight a name. His name is Desmond and he's a good boi. Since Hornet and Ghost have names already, I figured I'd give THK a name as well. I know it's not a badass name like Hornet or Ghost, but it's a name gifted to him with plenty of love.

I like how technically the knight is both the villain and the hero as the only reason the knight is there is cause the hallow knight showed emotion so that had to replace with a different “vessel” if you will

That part combined with the image.... I have rewatched this like 10 times in the last 2 days, and every time I break down crying. This is so good. I Personally wish you had done the whole song, because then I would see more of this.
Also am I the only one who thinks the pale king got corrupted in some way and thats what lead to him doing what he did? Sorry, mini rant here, but it is said in the lore that he raised the vessels as his own, meaning there was a period of time where for each and every vessel, he did love and care for them. But the void corrupts, same with the radiance. So something tells me our wyrm god just couldn't fight the war on two fronts in his head, and it drove him partially mad. I can totally imagine a man that after he left all the rest of the vessels to die, if not straight up killed, would cry himself to sleep every night with guilt, only his duty keeping him waking up each day. And then, when his duty was done and he thought he had contained the radiance at the cost of his last child, he died in his grief on his thrown. For heavy is the head that wears the crown.

As much as I would like to, I can't be sorry for the king. Not much for the abyss thing, that's "understandable" and although it's horrendous, I understand the plan.
But.
After all your children were sacrificed, you finally selected the perfect one, and you had only one, ONE thing to do: make sure that that vessel stayed pure. And instead what did you do? You couldn't resist the urge to show affection towards it, which is understandable once more, but come on!
Not only that, but the king knows that the problem was him showing affection towards his son, and the queen knows it too. I suspect that they kinda knew that the vessel might have been faulty even before sealing him, but that they went on anyways hoping for a miracle or to just take time. So not only did they set him up for failure, they condemned the hollow knight to an existence of pain (which imo is worse than death), willingly.
And I just can't forgive that.
