- Animal Well streaming continues! I just can't stop thinking about it so I need to get my fix in 😍😍. Since streaming this last time, I bought it 3 more times for other people and other devices. So yeah it was goooodddddd.

Day 9 walks into a room.
"I need the ice breaking thing"
Sean skipping the whale disc puzzle cracked me up. Especially afterwards when he said "What, have you not seen someone solve it like that?" Because yes, yes I have. The current glitchless speedrun does it that way. lol
Sean skipping puzzles because he assumed that you need an icebreaker to do them reminds me of him putting two sails on his Tears of the Kingdom boat because he assumed the tutorial island was about making wacky machines
Glad he predicted the ice breaky thing. Saved us from what could have been some boring moments for sure.
I am glad to be of mature mind, because seeing this man go through the game in a way that is unfathomable to me is a joy. What a beautiful game, and a surreal vod.

I don't think "wholesome" is the word I'd use about a game where you get eaten by chameleons and ripped apart by dogs. The phrase "animal well" brings to mind DEAD animals thrown down a well.

I did the dog section first and that weiner dog gave me the jumpscare of my life 😂
Its funny because if you go back and look, the very very first time you got the disk you accidentally did jump on it and ride it for a second but didn't notice.
Day9 is one of the few people who can get a child-like laugh out of me. Just the way he experiments with things is something that you can almost see and feel.
At 16:50 that part of the music is really reminiscent of Mindustry. This is a good thing, both have great sound/music!
Day9 struggling so hard with the disc-puzzle made me laugh out loud
Realizing the map loops and is a cylinder like a well is so satisfying
It loops up and down too, so it is more like a ring ;)

@@JL-random-characters yes that’s right, it’s a torus. there’s a post-credits secret hunt that will allow you to interact with it once you finish the true ending. it’s not too obtuse, and you can guess what you need to do now (you’ve been doing it throughout the game already). totally doable on your own, or with minimal hints, i highly encourage you to try if secret hunting/ puzzles are your jam. there’s another layer afterwards, but some of the tasks there are waaay beyond reasonable in my opinion.
@@EugeneYunak yea I recognized it as a torus I just didn't realize that it was representing the map in that way. Only 4 eggs left, and I have 3 areas tagged as likely...also the weird shrine thing in the end area post-4 flames.
1:56:50 that switch is there just in-case you make it to that part with the switch cycle off-set so you don't accidentally make it there and then be stuck with a wall in front of you.
Nothing weird about it
There are 5 stages of Animal Well.
1) Enjoyment at a great game
2) Disappointment when you get to the credits so soon
3) Interest as you dig a little deeper
4) Awe when you realize how deep the rabbit hole goes
5) Acceptance when you give up and look for a guide for that last @#$# egg
realize there is more after you get all the eggs.
I'm at 4+
I'm still discovering things and some of them are looking intimidating.
Only have like 3 eggs left to find I think, and like 2 very clear puzzles I'm unsure of.

animal well in the last bits of layer 2 gives massive ProZD "WHERE THE FUCK IS THE LAST MOON?!?!?" vibes
I did that entire segment between discs with the ghost dog chasing me. I feel so dumb… It took SO many attempts.

There’s so many ways around various puzzles that you can make the game as difficult or as easy as you want. For instance I found a way around doing the final ostrich puzzle (then did it anyway later because I wanted to do the sequence).
The slinky cemented it. Game of the year.
He really called the ostrich a swan 3:37:12 😂
I love the soundtrack to this game, it reminds me of the moodier parts of the Twin Peaks soundtrack.
Sad to hear that Day9 didn't finish Tunic. I feel like Tunic and Animal Well have somewhat opposite experiences when it comes to mystery based puzzles. Tunic isn't heavy on the puzzles during the opening tutorial section but becomes extremely satisfying to see how the world connects with the game mechanics as you keep playing, whereas Animal Well immediately gives the player interesting tools to work with but the late-game literally just becomes an egg hunt for random corners you didn't check. I kind of wish Animal Well had implemented something similar to the seeking spell from Tunic, would've made that search less frustrating.
The remote makes it super easy to find chests tho
@@x3naurus Yeah but there's still an aspect of "I need to just walk through the whole map to look for little things I missed or just look them up" to all of late game.
I was thinking exactly this when he said that comment, a game that does the first half as well as Animal Well and the second as well as Tunic would just be beyond incredible... Also I found it funny that so many people said he ducked out just before it got good since there's a joke that goes like, you know how long someone played Tunic by what they compare it to, 5 hours "it's like Zelda", 10 hours "it's like Dark Souls", 15 hours "it's like Outer Wilds", 20 hours "It's like Fez", and given his praise of both Animal Well and Fez I feel so disappointed he didn't continue to the end
God, I am SO looking forward to watching this after I play the game myself
This man is so sure if himself that he makes up a mechanic that doesn't exist, then ignores half of the games actual mechanics in favor of his imaginary one. Yup, the icebreaker is just around the next corner.
2:57:30 is the absolute jankiest solution to that puzzle imaginable. 110% not what was intended, but it did work.
That was absolutely the way I solved it too. I didn't realize the spray upwards only happened while I was standing up top, so it made sense to me.

mcuh more fun than hollow knight for me personally! i just love exploration & puzzles, and the constant sense discovery and wonder you get from Animal Well

I love Day9's insistence about an ice breaking item, and using it as justification to give up on puzzles right when he gets close to getting one of the flames. He got there in the end though. It's a shame he isn't going to finish the game, like so many other games he's streamed and supposedly enjoyed.

@@zo_voyce only he knows, but there are a lot of games that he has enjoyed on stream and never revisited beyond the first time.
He spends more time talking about how intuitive and naturally-teaching the game is than playing it, talking at length about how curious he is about how items and obstacles interact, but then when he actually plays he's just so wildly incurious about those very things. Just glancing at something and going "okay" and walking away, meeting the slightest resistance and dismissing it, and balking at damage when he walked directly into an obstacle.

@@GolemCC Yeah him not giving enough attention to the fish that teaches the fast travel teleport song is a great example. So much time spent traveling from place to place as a result of him not spending more than a few seconds in that room.
i can imagine Dunkey pitching things to the devs "Okay, so we need a slinky and a yo-yo, and I want them to be essential to complete the game." "but how- ... ya know what? i think we can make that work, sir." xD
Bit shitty to take away Billy Basso's accomplishments and pretend Dunkey made the game good for them instead. Real shitty actually. Dunkey deserves some credit for recognizing a good dev and supporting them, but give actual credit where it's due my guy. Even as a joke this is in poor taste.
It's one dev, and Dunkey didn't do a damn thing for the game's design.
@@TheBolondron They probably just didn't know. Day9 made it sound like Dunky made the game in the intro so plenty of people are going to get it wrong.
