Occultist is the best class for a new starter in my opinion.
Read on to find out why...
    - Big damage skill (Dreeg's Evil Eye) unlocks with 1 point in mastery and can be heavily buffed very early in Act 1 with several boss-drop items that have 100% drop chance. Skill scales really well and remains great all the way to endgame.
    - Another big damage skill (Doom Bolt) can be buffed to silly amounts of damage.
    - Area damage skill (Bloody Pox) is strong and useful.
    - Exclusive skill (Possession) provides damage absorption as well as damage buffs and 100% skill disruption protection.
    - Class has two pets and a generic pet-buff skill (health, damage, speed, energy regen) so can be part of a strong pet build.
    - Curse of Frailty is a very useful resistance reduction skill with an area effect.
    - Blood of Dreeg provides great buffs including a massive amount of acid/poison resistance on its 2nd node.
    - Occultist can be very useful as a support mastery for every other class in the game.

John I have a little correction to make I'm afraid. You said that the vitality dmg was converted to acid and the vitality decay to poison. Aah the very confusing convertion mechanics of GD. A lot of players think that because acid and poison are very often mentioned together that they are each kin, but they are actually not. Acid does not have a dot (like pierce, chaos and aether) and Poison is it's own dot. So you convert the vitality dmg to either acid OR poison, not both. On Bloody Pox it doesn't matter as it has only vitality dmg, so no, there is no vitality decay conversion to poison. If BP would have vitality decay, it would still be vitality decay. Brave Sir Robin (the not so brave as Sir Lancelot) bravely ran away, away... 😃🤟

      You’re winding me up 😂
There’s no item or skill in the game that specifically converts anything to poison damage. Items that convert a damage type TO acid will also convert the DoT of that damage type (if it exists) to poison.
It’s pierce, aether and chaos that have no DoT variant.

As a new player i love the way you tell where you get the items because i had tried a few of my own builds in the start and failed miserably due to not know where to get the proper items, and the way to look at item abilities like conversion … but i do think its a bit weird that i am about level 57 and has just move on from Icon fort i think its called…. And have played about 1 day more LOL…. The problem i have atm is i feel very squishy and died twice on the boss in anguish… and twice a random insta death no way i know how that happened… I think its because i i only have 10 physical resistance. But have no idea how to get it… else its fun and somewhat easy to play, but not knowing what is in front of me makes some encounters exciting even on normal..

Which boss, Zarthuzalen, right in front of the locked gate, that does fire damage, or Alkamos, the ghost with the 2 hand sword or scythe that does cold? Either one can be a challenge. Besides having high elemental resist, it can help having a lot of attack damage converted to health.

Thanks for the comment, always good to hear this stuff is useful for new players. I suspect the deaths and the time taken are both due to familiarity (or a lack thereof) with the game - trust me, I was dying all over the place and having a really bad time for ages until I started looking at builds that worked and tactics that worked - and this was before either of the expansions when we were still collecting fragments of components and assembling them in inventory ... oh dear that was just no fun at all!
Remember to use Evade (bind it to the most convenient button or key) and use it to avoid the worst attacks from bosses, once you learn which ones they are!

@@ChaosUdk Check your cold resistance - Alkamos loves that stuff. And remember to hit and run, and pay attention when he goes invisible… good luck!

Don't you think you are gimping yourself and other starter players by not taking a second mastery?

    • @Arcadelife1
      @Arcadelife1  15 днів тому

Do you think I am? I mean, the character is strong as heck and getting stronger. You saw that celestial totem and the boss fights, right?
But seriously, I’ll be doing a video comparing all the other masteries as 2nd masteries, also showing how to respec into a pet build and some other stuff. If someone follows this build and somehow manages to feel gimped before choosing the 2nd mastery I’ll be honestly shocked.

@@Arcadelife1 As i made a character to follow this (i'm well behind your lvl lol) i do appreciate your clarification on the 2nd masteries, keep at it. 🙂👍
