Patch 1.2 update - all the monster infrequent drops from BOSSES are now 100% drop chance. Stuff like Pusquill’s Tail, Crimson’s Scepter (although she has 2 so it’s 50/50 for her evil eye weapon). Non-boss MI drops have reduced drop rate, hopefully they will fix this.

I just started this build yesterday after watching the video again. Came across the Puma pants and decided to include them in my build. So I can toss my feces at them, hit them with Curse of Frailty and then drop the gaze on them. Just clears a room and I'm only level 22. Love it.

Thank you for this guide. I've had a few playthroughs of grim dawn, long ago, and this is just what I needed to reacquaint myself with the game. I farmed a slith primal ring, and found a chest and helm with acid/poison damage. This is a fun build!
Love the content, new to Grim Dawn so having fun playing and following along while... I keep rewatching and rerunning the zones... As i miss so much when actually playing but since it is so well detailed i can rewatch get everything
Great to hear you're enjoying it. Doing this in hardcore will probably influence your 2nd mastery choice as you're going to want to add plenty of tankiness for the kiting gaps between each cast of the attack. Good luck out there!
I just started one this morning after watching the vid. I had some differences. Somehow I had a Groble Toxic Effigy in my stash that was level 12 instead of 20 so I was able to use that 8 levels earlier. And when I hit level 20 I didn't need to swap the GTE for a higher level one, because I had a full MIASMA set waiting. So I put those on my toon and put the Vitriolic whats-it on the tome and on the Pusquill's tail and I think I've just hit level 21 and I'm doing 4804 damage with Eye of Dreeg. I JUST got the portal in the Warden's cellar before quitting. Work tomorrow, but it was nice having 3 days off to play. Later.
@@charlesballard5251 Nice. Remember this is an older video (pre patch 1.2) so the drop rates of some items are different - boss MIs in Act 1 are going to be 100% so less farming required. I’d also recommend trying out acid-damage converted bloody pox for an overall stronger build, but you won’t get the off-hand that converts that damage until early Forgotten Gods.

Thanks for the comment. It’s a good build to come back to after a break from the game - high damage almost immediately, all required Occultist skills maxed by level 50 and you’re free to choose whatever 2nd mastery suits how you plan to play the build in late game. I’ll have a video out soon covering 2nd masteries for it, and my own (possibly surprising) choice.

For a new player, this is a good one to try because the gear that supports the skill (Dreeg’s Evil Eye) is easy to get from target enemies and just by buying pieces of gear from faction shops. Nobody is going to have any problem getting the right gear, although some of it can be farmed for ‘the best’ additional bonuses from item prefixes and suffixes but this is not essential, at least until you reach Ultimate difficulty when you will probably want to do some gear farming.
@@Arcadelife1 I have a question, I'm just at the part in the video where you craft the occult horn... I don't have it in the list of craftable items, did I miss something?! (I do have the lv 20 item anyway, but just wondered)
@@BominYarou You need DUNCAN as the blacksmith for the Occult Horn to be in the list of craftable items. If you have ANGRIM as the smith, it won’t be there. Not a major issue as you will be able to get a better item from farming the Snake Clan Groble witch doctors anyway.
I really appreciate your guides, they are essential for new players who have no idea where to start. For me, it's made this game so much more accessible. I started as a reaper and boosted myself in crucible, but I'm really not feeling it. I'm now looking at either warlock or cabalist (2 completely different playsyles i know) but I can at least follow this guide to start with before I make a decision. I love pet builds, but also like the idea of spellcasting warlocks. I'm interested to know your thoughts on both of these, as I've not found anything on your channel relating to them?

The One-Shot build (subject of this video) ends up being a Warlock but there are loads of options for the 2nd mastery depending on what you want to do with the build.
Is the Slithbane (Epic Two Handed Sword) ever viable over the other combos to any extent? Great content, always love coming back to these and playing through your build guides, really dove into this game because of guides like yours, you are a masterful blend of a sly snide and informative teacher. Slithbane could be used but the build would need to be altered to make the most of using a 2H weapon. It wouldn’t be the same thing as this build which is purely based on maxing out Dreeg’s Evil Eye. Cheers for the comment and the support 👊🙂

Thanks, I actually put a bit of effort into this vid 👊😜 Not only is this build very strong already halfway through Act 1, a large number of ‘the best’ gear pieces now and later can be target farmed or bought from faction shops. Even as a new player’s first character, it can easily be one-shotting heroes and bosses before level 30.

Really nice guide. I'm new to Grim Dawn and on my first play through. I'm following your build and I'm thinking of getting Shaman or Soldier for my 2nd mastery. Would you recommend one of these over the other, or possibly recommend another mastery? Thanks in advance.

They changed the boss drops of unique ‘monster infrequent’ items (example Pusquill’s Tail) to 100% drop chance in patch 1.2 (16 Nov) so it’s even easier to get the gear for this build now. If it’s your first character, use it to learn WHY it works so well - basically one strong attack with damage type(s) being buffed from multiple sources (gear, other mastery skills, devotions) plus some solid defensive skills and devotions to keep you alive. The basic principles apply to any build, even pets to some extent.
Just gone back to Grim Dawn and enjoying playing because of your help, so thank you. Is there an armour set you'd recommend with this build in the video. ?

As a former new player, I can honestly say that you can indeed go wrong in many and varied ways and for a considerable amount of time. This build does not use guns, and I’d say you can’t go wrong with it as a new player but it can potentially spoil any future builds as it is ridiculously strong (damage) and easy to gear right from the start.
Very well done, and coming back in this game after few years, I really appreciate to get this nice build to start with. I am 10 as of now. For the second class do we need one? and if yes which one do you advise? nightblade? I am not sure.
Thanks for the comment, always much appreciated. Good to hear you’re trying this build - I’m editing the ‘second mastery’ video now, should be able to upload it in a day or two. There’s no “you must do this” for the second mastery, also there are several viable options depending on where you want to go with the build. Soldier would work well, with a mix of damage/offensive skills and survivability - probably best if you’re in hardcore. Nightblade has nice poison buffs and additional resistance reduction on Veil’s 2nd node - this was my original choice for 2nd mastery but I changed my mind because I want to stick with just one big damage skill and the spirit scaling plus a couple of great one-point skills on Arcanist were too much of a temptation. So yeah, spoiler alert but I went with Arcanist 👊😜

@@NinjaGhost001 For this build’s Devotions (the video subject), if you can get to Manticore and Murmur for resistance reduction, that will be good - I can’t remember without looking it up if both those were in the base game. Rat should be there, I think, then it’s really all down to finding other acid/poison damage constellations to get to where you want to be.

Unfortunately there is no Murmur, so I'm trying to figure out the best place to slot Curse of Frailty and possession since there is no Yugol. But I'm thinking going owl to hydra then to Abomination or affliction since I can do fetid pool for possession, but idk if that makes senses or what not haha.
@@NinjaGhost001 Yeah, Affliction is a good replacement for Yugol. Good to hear Abomination is there. As for the rest, try to get as much acid/poison devotions as possible (which is what you said you’re doing) and it should be fine.
Hi. I target farmed the freakn toxic effigy for 3 hours with no luck. I've got a question though: if you put a Mark of dreeg into the weapon does it carry on to Dreeg's evil eye? i've got two of those up to warden
Not sure of the link between shrine and gear item, but if you’re missing a shrine do you have the expansion DLCs installed? Some shrines were added with the expansions. If you’re talking about a totem instead of a shrine, they spawn in random locations and the loot is not fixed.

Might be a dumb ass question but when I farm pusquills tail I'm not getting pusquills tail of corrosion with the acid damage and health I'm getting random rolled affixes I assume that's normal right it's up to rng to give me the one you dropped for example
Yes, the affixes are randomly picked from a pool of many. I’d recommend using whichever Pusquill Tail drops in Normal because you will be swapping for a better item fairly soon. In Elite it will be worth farming Sister Crimson (once you are using her weapon from Normal you won’t be going back to the Pusquill tail), and in Ultimate you will definitely want to farm all the different Monster Infrequent items to get good affixes.
As with all gear where damage is involved, put your main skill (Dreeg’s Evil Eye) on mouse button 1 or 2, then open character tab 2 so you can watch the skill damage change when you swap gear items. The wand is a random drop, meaning you can’t farm Krieg specifically for it, so I don’t mention it (or other random items) in a guide like this because there’s no guaranteed way to get it. However, if it’s better than the item you have, it’s probably best to use it. Tab 2 damage check explained at 16:03
Nice one - yeah, if you have a full Miasma set early on then it will probably be better than random Act 1 stuff. However, the farmable items a bit later will be better for increasing the performance of Dreeg's Evil Eye, plus you'll get potentially much better overall stats with decent affix rolls on the monster infrequent items such as the Chosen Raiment. I've got the fresh start character up to 33 now, with completed Manticore devotion, Sister Crimson's weapon, Ronaprax Sting and a Chosen Raiment - just one-shotted all the Arkovian Undercity heroes/bosses including Kilrian.
I originally used the big damage node from very early on. Large area splash damage makes it useful against groups as well as bosses. Since then, I’ve played an evil eye build without the big damage node as a spam-attack but I changed the devotions and other skills around a bit to support the different playstyle. In my opinion the big damage version is both hilarious and useful.
noticed that some of the wording, say for instance like the wording on the putrid necklace are coloered different. like flamme posion and such. how is that done?

It’s the red node on the crossroads (star-shaped constellation in the middle of the screen) - the red node is not needed once Rat is complete because Rat provides the red it needs for itself once it is complete.
Pause at 41:20 and you can see the top left node of Crossroads is illuminated. Click on it to get the point back - you need 1 aether Crystal in inventory or stash to be able to do it.
@@tosiin3930 Ah ok, you must be playing on the base game with no DLCs. I forget exactly which devotion constellations come with the Malmouth DLC but I’m guessing Wretch is included.
hey, im new too and right now im at 11:14 and i did everything exactly like u, i just dont have the item that i can put on my gun, still i do everything else the same but the boss is killing me always and when i just get 1 attack from him im instantly 1hit, but you can tank like 10, i dont know why?
Thanks for trying this build. Couple of reasons I can think why you might be having trouble with Pusquill - the water/slime damages you while you stand in it so stay on the dry ground during the fight as much as you can. I do use health potions during the fight to allow me to stand in front of him and keep fighting instead of playing more of a hit-and-run style fight.
@@Arcadelife1 hm i used them too i only could kill him because i run around a corner, maybe its because i play veteran and dont have the item on my weapon? but since i killed him its better and i can kill all enemies with new weapon and i also have the item on it :P
By equipping gear with +2 to the skill (Blood Burst in this case) or gear with +1 all skills in Occultist, or gear with +1 to all skills - the skill’s max level can be raised by 10 points to its hard-cap.
It’s fine you didn’t watch the video. The levelling from level one starts after the intro (where I list all the gear and skills in case someone wants to skip watching the entire levelling experience). Have a look from 2:46 onward…

accidentally got rid of this and have to farm another one but im only getting one dropped at level 12 is this bad luck? I got one while following the playthrough that was level 20 but not im at level 55 and cant get a level 20 to drop
Same results for me. It's strange, not sure if it got patched or something recently but I was definitely just getting level 12 items in Normal a few days back when I was figuring out the best areas for groups of Snake Clan grobles. Probably not worth worrying about because you will be able to get the Leafmane Horn soon (when you reach Coven and can farm for them or just buy from the shop in Ancient grove) and that's a better item anyway.

I really appreciate your guides, they are essential for new players who have no idea where to start. For me, it's made this game so much more accessible.
I started as a reaper and boosted myself in crucible, but I'm really not feeling it. I'm now looking at either warlock or cabalist (2 completely different playsyles i know) but I can at least follow this guide to start with before I make a decision. I love pet builds, but also like the idea of spellcasting warlocks. I'm interested to know your thoughts on both of these, as I've not found anything on your channel relating to them?

The One-Shot build (subject of this video) ends up being a Warlock but there are loads of options for the 2nd mastery depending on what you want to do with the build.

Is the Slithbane (Epic Two Handed Sword) ever viable over the other combos to any extent? Great content, always love coming back to these and playing through your build guides, really dove into this game because of guides like yours, you are a masterful blend of a sly snide and informative teacher. Keep it up!
Slithbane could be used but the build would need to be altered to make the most of using a 2H weapon. It wouldn’t be the same thing as this build which is purely based on maxing out Dreeg’s Evil Eye.

@@georgetosounidis5545 Legit free stuff all the way: OBS (capture), Shotcut (editing), Paint . net (thumbnails, video text and other graphics). Only thing I spent money on was the mic.

Not only is this build very strong already halfway through Act 1, a large number of ‘the best’ gear pieces now and later can be target farmed or bought from faction shops.
Even as a new player’s first character, it can easily be one-shotting heroes and bosses before level 30.

@@bill6579 Good to hear you’re having fun with this one. They changed the boss drops of unique ‘monster infrequent’ items (example Pusquill’s Tail) to 100% drop chance in patch 1.2 (16 Nov) so it’s even easier to get the gear for this build now.
If it’s your first character, use it to learn WHY it works so well - basically one strong attack with damage type(s) being buffed from multiple sources (gear, other mastery skills, devotions) plus some solid defensive skills and devotions to keep you alive. The basic principles apply to any build, even pets to some extent.

any build that uses guns, either two handed or dual pistols is pretty "easy" in my experience. cant go wrong as a new player
As a former new player, I can honestly say that you can indeed go wrong in many and varied ways and for a considerable amount of time.
This build does not use guns, and I’d say you can’t go wrong with it as a new player but it can potentially spoil any future builds as it is ridiculously strong (damage) and easy to gear right from the start.
Very well done, and coming back in this game after few years, I really appreciate to get this nice build to start with. I am 10 as of now. For the second class do we need one? and if yes which one do you advise? nightblade? I am not sure.
Thanks for the comment, always much appreciated. Good to hear you’re trying this build - I’m editing the ‘second mastery’ video now, should be able to upload it in a day or two. There’s no “you must do this” for the second mastery, also there are several viable options depending on where you want to go with the build. Soldier would work well, with a mix of damage/offensive skills and survivability - probably best if you’re in hardcore. Nightblade has nice poison buffs and additional resistance reduction on Veil’s 2nd node - this was my original choice for 2nd mastery but I changed my mind because I want to stick with just one big damage skill and the spirit scaling plus a couple of great one-point skills on Arcanist were too much of a temptation. So yeah, spoiler alert but I went with Arcanist 👊😜

@@NinjaGhost001 For this build’s Devotions (the video subject), if you can get to Manticore and Murmur for resistance reduction, that will be good - I can’t remember without looking it up if both those were in the base game. Rat should be there, I think, then it’s really all down to finding other acid/poison damage constellations to get to where you want to be.
@@Arcadelife1 Frist thanks again for getting back to me so quickly. I did go Rat, and Manticore. Unfortunately there is no Murmur, so I'm trying to figure out the best place to slot Curse of Frailty and possession since there is no Yugol. But I'm thinking going owl to hydra then to Abomination or affliction since I can do fetid pool for possession, but idk if that makes senses or what not haha.
@@NinjaGhost001 Yeah, Affliction is a good replacement for Yugol. Good to hear Abomination is there. As for the rest, try to get as much acid/poison devotions as possible (which is what you said you’re doing) and it should be fine.

I've got a question though: if you put a Mark of dreeg into the weapon does it carry on to Dreeg's evil eye? i've got two of those up to warden

Not sure of the link between shrine and gear item, but if you’re missing a shrine do you have the expansion DLCs installed? Some shrines were added with the expansions. If you’re talking about a totem instead of a shrine, they spawn in random locations and the loot is not fixed.
I know this is an older video but it seems like the Wretch Constellation is no longer there. Where should I put that point?

Might be a dumb ass question but when I farm pusquills tail I'm not getting pusquills tail of corrosion with the acid damage and health I'm getting random rolled affixes I assume that's normal right it's up to rng to give me the one you dropped for example
Yes, the affixes are randomly picked from a pool of many. I’d recommend using whichever Pusquill Tail drops in Normal because you will be swapping for a better item fairly soon. In Elite it will be worth farming Sister Crimson (once you are using her weapon from Normal you won’t be going back to the Pusquill tail), and in Ultimate you will definitely want to farm all the different Monster Infrequent items to get good affixes.
is Blackwood Wand from Warden a better option over Pusquill's tail at lvl 25? Due to the +1 to Occultist?
As with all gear where damage is involved, put your main skill (Dreeg’s Evil Eye) on mouse button 1 or 2, then open character tab 2 so you can watch the skill damage change when you swap gear items. The wand is a random drop, meaning you can’t farm Krieg specifically for it, so I don’t mention it (or other random items) in a guide like this because there’s no guaranteed way to get it. However, if it’s better than the item you have, it’s probably best to use it.

I did almost the same except i have the Miasma set on at level 22 and i haven't fought Warden kreig yet
Nice one - yeah, if you have a full Miasma set early on then it will probably be better than random Act 1 stuff. However, the farmable items a bit later will be better for increasing the performance of Dreeg's Evil Eye, plus you'll get potentially much better overall stats with decent affix rolls on the monster infrequent items such as the Chosen Raiment.
I've got the fresh start character up to 33 now, with completed Manticore devotion, Sister Crimson's weapon, Ronaprax Sting and a Chosen Raiment - just one-shotted all the Arkovian Undercity heroes/bosses including Kilrian.

i know it makes some time but, should i ise the big dmg ( wich makes cooldown larger ) only on bosses ?
I originally used the big damage node from very early on. Large area splash damage makes it useful against groups as well as bosses. Since then, I’ve played an evil eye build without the big damage node as a spam-attack but I changed the devotions and other skills around a bit to support the different playstyle. In my opinion the big damage version is both hilarious and useful.

I don't know if I'm blind, but when we go to take back point to put into Wretch, I cannot find it. I looked for like 5 mins
It’s the red node on the crossroads (star-shaped constellation in the middle of the screen) - the red node is not needed once Rat is complete because Rat provides the red it needs for itself once it is complete.
Pause at 41:20 and you can see the top left node of Crossroads is illuminated. Click on it to get the point back - you need 1 aether Crystal in inventory or stash to be able to do it.
I got that part done. But there is no wretch on the screen for me to put points into. Like where yours is behind rat. its not there for me or anywhere
@@tosiin3930 Ah ok, you must be playing on the base game with no DLCs. I forget exactly which devotion constellations come with the Malmouth DLC but I’m guessing Wretch is included.

hey, im new too and right now im at 11:14 and i did everything exactly like u, i just dont have the item that i can put on my gun, still i do everything else the same but the boss is killing me always and when i just get 1 attack from him im instantly 1hit, but you can tank like 10, i dont know why?
Thanks for trying this build. Couple of reasons I can think why you might be having trouble with Pusquill - the water/slime damages you while you stand in it so stay on the dry ground during the fight as much as you can. I do use health potions during the fight to allow me to stand in front of him and keep fighting instead of playing more of a hit-and-run style fight.
@@Arcadelife1 hm i used them too i only could kill him because i run around a corner, maybe its because i play veteran and dont have the item on my weapon? but since i killed him its better and i can kill all enemies with new weapon and i also have the item on it :P

By equipping gear with +2 to the skill (Blood Burst in this case) or gear with +1 all skills in Occultist, or gear with +1 to all skills - the skill’s max level can be raised by 10 points to its hard-cap.
that is not a starting player, level 31 is already middle of the game, wish you did i rear level up
It’s fine you didn’t watch the video. The levelling from level one starts after the intro (where I list all the gear and skills in case someone wants to skip watching the entire levelling experience).

accidentally got rid of this and have to farm another one but im only getting one dropped at level 12 is this bad luck? I got one while following the playthrough that was level 20 but not im at level 55 and cant get a level 20 to drop

Same results for me. It's strange, not sure if it got patched or something recently but I was definitely just getting level 12 items in Normal a few days back when I was figuring out the best areas for groups of Snake Clan grobles. Probably not worth worrying about because you will be able to get the Leafmane Horn soon (when you reach Coven and can farm for them or just buy from the shop in Ancient grove) and that's a better item anyway.
