i'm so glad you upgraded him to such a big tank ! the only thing i see that could change is that while yes you need that uvb bulb you also need the other bulb you had which is a basking bulb...he needs a basking spot of 90 degrees Fahrenheit so unless you keep the room he's in that hot he'll need that basking bulb back so he can heat up properly. thanks for being a good turtle owner and getting your shelled friend a bigger tank!
Awesome thanks for putting this together... easy, affordable and effective way to add a basking area to a turtle tank. My kids and I have three turtles, and I plan to put something together like this. Will let you know how it goes.
Carson love your DIY bassist, aquarium tank and most of all your aquarium hobby experiences. Ever since I’ve discovered my passion in this hobby, I can never ever have enough space for a dream aquarium. It’s therapeutic hearing the sound of water fall within aquarium filter, observe fishing swimming around/feeding them & watch them grow. I know the amount of time and expense it takes to be in this hobby but I can’t imagine a house or living room with out aquarium decorations. Thanks for sharing.....
You are such a responsible owner! I got my turtle when I was ten and I did not do any research on how to take care of it until 14. :( My turtle had been living in a bad environment that time :((
Great video :) he’s going to be so much happier in that tank. I hope he doesn’t eat all your fish one day, but he’s still got a lot of growing to do to get to that point.
I'm considering getting a turtle for myself. Your videos really inspire me! It's a joy to watch how you love Sheldon and are always taking steps for him to have a happy turtle life. You can tell he means a lot to you. Also, the sound of your voice, along with the relaxing music, and the pets swimming make your content very relaxing! Keep up the good work!
ADORABLE! What a nice tank, I was fooled into thinking you had live plants in there, I hope he gets along with the fish, I've never seen a turtle with goldfish.
This is the best idea and instructional video for a basking area on the internet! I have a 3 year old RES, full grown. She is about 12" long so none of the commercial basking areas will support her weight or size. I have been searching RES blogs, websites, and stores for 2 years and have never found a good solution. Until today - I can't wait to make the design that you feature in your video. Thank you!! In the meantime, I did want to suggest that you get Sheldon his own tank. Our RES is an expert hunter and ended up eating every fish she shared her tank with! Also, the spinning "wheel" in the tank looks like something Sheldon could get caught or hurt in so you might want to consider removing it if he stays in that tank. They also try to eat everything that's not bigger than them, including rocks on the bottom of the tank. The big rocks you put in the basking area are fine but the smaller ones and the substrate will injure him. Thanks again for your video!
dude I love that ramp! I don't know how I didn't figure it out before!!! I have two RES and they're getting big now so I'm just gonna make the same one you did but much bigger! haha cheers
I love this what I’m wondering if you could please tell me, does the heat lamp get too hot? I mean like it’s not gonna melt up against the crate right? I’m gonna try to make one and I noticed that when I touch the outside of the lamp it’s warm so I was just worried if it’s gonna, melt the crate
So it' safe to have the light be touching the basking cage? I want to make one of these for my turtle but I'm not sure if it will burn or melt from the heat
Okay so, I got a baby yellow belly slider about a week ago and he has a 10 gallon tank with a filter and all that stuff, and I was wondering if you have to have a heater if you have a UVB bulb, and if so, where can I get a good one? Also, is it okay if I have the aquarium gravel in his tank since he is just a baby? These questions are pretty dumb, I know but this is my first turtle and I want to ensure that he has a good, safe habitat
Kaylee Parker so basically turtles need heat rays & UVB rays. you should either get an all-in-one bulb, or two lamp fixtures. i recently bought a lamp that holds two bulbs, one for heat & one for UVB, although i didnt have that lamp when this video was made. as for gravel, if the turtle is tiny then aquarium gravel is probably fine for now, but when he gets bigger i’d switch to bigger rocks or sand, & upgrade the tank. i had my turtle in a 10 gallon for a couple months, but looking back on it i probably should have had him in at least a 20 gal. hope this helps
Love the set up. I just got a 55 gal tank givin to me. And that’s a great idea. Just a thought wouldn’t it be a good idea to put like some type of aquarium safe carpet on the egg crate so Sheldon would lose footing. I seen on another person video that did that and he said it’s better to do it that way. But I mean u put a lot of rocks on it witch is great!
Can you please tell me what size tank that is. I have a baby yellow bell slider and I need to put her in a bigger tank like that. You have a beautiful tank. Sheldon is definitely a happy turtle 🐢💕
I feel horrible I have 4 small turtles in one 10 gallon 🤦🏻♀️. Thanks for your video I’ve been binge watching basking area diy to learn how to build one for them but seems like I need to upgrade their tank as well lol
🐢 you sure have a knack for setting up tanks. I like to borrow you for a day.... My RES is huge .I have him in a 55 tank but only half water. So I dont know how I could make your basking cage. Idea??
If you have a large turtle you should definitely fill that 55 gallon all of the way, or a couple of inches from the top. My painted turtle is about 7-8" full grown and has a 55 gallon tank as well. Might I ask why it's only at half capacity?
Charles Gregorio There’s little ridges on the top frame of the tank, & the cage just sits on it. it fits very snug in it. you might get a better idea of it looking at this video: ua-cam.com/video/KDb6cv5I9Tg/v-deo.html at 1:20
Would this setup work for a 7in red eared slider turtle? I'm moving it to 85 gallon tub within the next week and wanted to make a bigger basking area for my turtle.
hi i am your new subscriber from the Philippines, i just wanna ask, how do you feed your turtle along with the fishes? or is it okay with the turtle to eat fish pellets? vise versa
I love, love your self made bassinet for baby turtle. Wow he’s a sharp little guy who got used to his new home right away. I’ve received advice from associate at Petco that this type of turtle can grow up to be bigger than palm size hand 🖐. It will eat any live plants or fish that are present and will knock down any sorts of ornaments/decorations. The associate took me over to their turtle set up with mixture of adult side and medium size turtle with only rocks in the tank/water fall set up. It’s so huge large enough to fit more then ten adult size turtle. Mean while you’re turtle is still small it’s safe to have him in that tank temporary until he’s bigger. To be on a safe size for the rest of your beautiful fish; we don’t want them injured or become lunch to the turtle right ‘wink. It would be totally cool when he gets his own home all to himself.
i actually just moved him into a new tank, the video will be out tomorrow. i am aware that i need to upgrade his tank as he gets bigger, i even plan on eventually building him a pond!
I'm leaving this comment for anyone else who might see it. You can cover the basking area in terrarium liner. It'll look nicer and be smoother for the turtles feetsies, even though they probably don't care. But it's still nice.
Please send me a video how i making a 2 big turtles approx (7 inces long) in a imported aquarium. Please send me the best decoration alnd filterization
Thanks for watching! Got a TON of new videos coming, especially aquarium vids! Be sure to subscribe! Thanks 🐢🎣🐸🐠
Did he eat the fish?
What filter do you use for your turtle?
What type of turtle?
CLICK (Light turns on)
Sheldon : Hey!! Turn that damn light off..
i'm so glad you upgraded him to such a big tank ! the only thing i see that could change is that while yes you need that uvb bulb you also need the other bulb you had which is a basking bulb...he needs a basking spot of 90 degrees Fahrenheit so unless you keep the room he's in that hot he'll need that basking bulb back so he can heat up properly. thanks for being a good turtle owner and getting your shelled friend a bigger tank!

Great video :) he’s going to be so much happier in that tank. I hope he doesn’t eat all your fish one day, but he’s still got a lot of growing to do to get to that point.

Thank you for this awesome idea! We just finished making one for our turtle.

Omg ur tank is perfect !
Nice video, just be aware of the increase in the bio load in the tank.
Is a great idea 💡 👍 thank you!
this video made me make my own above tank basking area. thanks for the idea
Thanks for the turtle basking idea I’m in love with it! I subscribed
Awesome Job man, you inspired me to build my basking area. I'm almost finished. Will share my setup with you!
Awesome video on how to make an above tank basking platform. This is the only video that really helped.
So it' safe to have the light be touching the basking cage? I want to make one of these for my turtle but I'm not sure if it will burn or melt from the heat
He is so adorable..
So cute!!! Great job!! Hey Sheldon 🥰🐢
So how would you clean out a tank with sand in it? Do you use a strainer to separate the sand and the water? Or does the sand just stay at the bottom?
I have a 12 inch red eared slider, what would you recommend as I am not sure this would be sturdy enough?
That’s so smart!! Great video!!
thank you!
i just got a baby red ear and your videos are making me super excited to be a turtle dad !
Thank you for this idea. I’m gonna do this with my tank 👍🏻🤗
hi great set up ,,was wonder now that it;s been close to a year.
with this set up,, has sheldon eaten any of the fish

great work! i have 7 turtles as my only pets and i always watch your videos to help me trough taking care of them! :)
Very neat and colorful tank ive ever seen. Wish i could do it the same 💚💚🐢🐢
Love the set up. I just got a 55 gal tank givin to me. And that’s a great idea. I seen on another person video that did that and he said it’s better to do it that way. But I mean u put a lot of rocks on it witch is great!
yeah, might eventually do something like that. it definitely would be better like that, i just didnt think to do it when i was making it
Yeah I definitely understand but I mean u pretty much got rocks layed all over the bottom so it’s cover pretty well. Non the lease it looks great
I think you did a great job!
thanks!
Really nice
Love your attitude
What filter do you use for this tank?
Awesome.
What aquarium brand is that?
Iam afraid of hurting my red eared slider... he hasnt basked and is only eating meal worms... what to do? He is about 2 months... thanks
He might be basking when your not looking
Hi! What is the thing that you used to build the basking dock? Where did you buy it?
It’s called eggcrate, got it at Lowe’s
Uva/uva bulb where you buy.so you dont need a dual lamp?just single lamp with. Uva/uvb bulb?
He's so cute.
Will the lights melt the grate?
nope, holds up great to a heat lamp
Great thanks so much
hello, what's the size of the crate you bought?
24” x 48”
How many gallons is that aquarium?
You make everything so beautiful and care for details. I have only one baby turtle. But i will copy some of your ideas.
Love it, man..
Can you please tell me what size tank that is. I have a baby yellow bell slider and I need to put her in a bigger tank like that. You have a beautiful tank. Sheldon is definitely a happy turtle 🐢💕
What kind of lightbulb did you use for the basking area?
UVA/UVB
What brand and wattage
hello!! what's the brand name of the bulb you're using?
I feel horrible I have 4 small turtles in one 10 gallon 🤦🏻♀️. Thanks for your video I’ve been binge watching basking area diy to learn how to build one for them but seems like I need to upgrade their tank as well lol
yeah definitely upgrade their tank soon lol. realistically, 4 turtles should be in a minimum of 50 gallons
I'm glad I found you on insta
That is cute 🍃🌺🍃
How many gallons are in that tank?
55
Sheldon is so precious
Nice!
I like your setup I just bought a bigger tank and definitely like the ideas you have on your setup
🐢 you sure have a knack for setting up tanks. I like to borrow you for a day.... My RES is huge .I have him in a 55 tank but only half water. So I dont know how I could make your basking cage. Idea??

Is that black sad?
How many gallons is your tank???
this one’s a 55 gal.
What sand is that in the bottom
TopFin black sand
I wish I could do the same for my turtle
why can’t you?
Roberto Navarrro same
Carson’s Aquatics I’m poor
Hey bro....what type of turtle is sheldon?
This is a really good vid.
thanks so much!
My slider is full grown. How did you secure the cage to the tank?
Charles Gregorio There’s little ridges on the top frame of the tank, & the cage just sits on it. it fits very snug in it. you might get a better idea of it looking at this video: ua-cam.com/video/KDb6cv5I9Tg/v-deo.html at 1:20
Nice set up. Only thing I will say is you should never boil rocks. They can explode. I like your diy basking deck.
Nice 👍
What kind of turtle is that?
Would this setup work for a 7in red eared slider turtle? I'm moving it to 85 gallon tub within the next week and wanted to make a bigger basking area for my turtle.
yeah, you will probably just need to get more of the eggcrate & make it bigger than i did. & secure it to the tub so your turtle can’t move it
Had my ybs for 9 years and I'm still learning things
hi i am your new subscriber from the Philippines, i just wanna ask, how do you feed your turtle along with the fishes? or is it okay with the turtle to eat fish pellets? vise versa
btw you look like expert for mee
Sheldon is so cute here 🐢specially him just opening his eyes ❤️

OMG SO CUTEEEE
What if he climbs through the egg crate and go through the hole in the top?
there’s no way he could climb that
i love the set up but you REALLY should put good like sheldon sized rocks as substrate. If he eats that he can die.
You mean the sand
I'm leaving this comment for anyone else who might see it. You can cover the basking area in terrarium liner. It'll look nicer and be smoother for the turtles feetsies, even though they probably don't care. But it's still nice.
tiny sheldon
His name is Sheldon 😭😭 I love it!!
What type of turtle is sheldon?
he’s a yellow bellied slider
@@CarsonsAquatics ohh. Okayy got it. Thanks Carson. Keep up the good work because I might want to get a turtle as a pet soon✌👍
Nice video

Please send me a video how i making a 2 big turtles approx (7 inces long) in a imported aquarium. Please send me the best decoration alnd filterization
It won’t Melt the plastic
no, and i’ve been using it for 11 months
There’s a goldfish in there they could be harmful if the turtle eats them but your probobly good if you’ve had it for a while
sheldon is a savage
He’s so little compared to my babies :,)
lmaoo my turtle is completely chonk rn..even bigger than my hand 😂 she's just 3 and a half y/o
I love your channel if you could like this that would make my life, keep up the good work
thank you!
Hey man I’m just wondering what size tank you have in the video? I’m making a similar basking platform. My Shelby has grown so fast in the last 9mos.

Just don’t get an animal because you’re bored 😑

Carson’s Aquatics 😂😂
Rip Sheldon
upgrading my baby turtle to a 50 gallon :D
The general rule is 10 gallons of water for ever inch of shell
I don't like that wheel. He might get stuck.
that lil house is no longer in the tank 👍
70th
Hey! My name is Carson too! But I’m a girl💀
