agree. I stare, talk, then slowly by hand add 'treat'. My Maps are 13 this year and come when they see me to beg for food. One eats from my hand and likes his head pet.I dont know if they can distinguish who is who though. They come beg for treats from ANY face lol.
I found a baby red-eared slider (I think it just hatched when I found it) at my pond so I took it in so that nothing would eat it. It warmed up to me pretty quickly and now (it has been about 2 weeks) it swims up to me and touches his nose to my finger and it is adorable.
Same here except I found mine in my pool. I don’t live right near a water source so I’m pretty sure a bird had him in their mouth and dropped him in the pool. He was probably only a week old.
What kind of turtle is it My co worker found one dead on the road then saw another crossing baby turtles so He saved it it was at a country club and gave it to me I’ve had it for 3 years and it’s almost same size daughter loves it
Why am I watching this? Cuz my turtle bit me today and they rarely bite I’m scared he will continue biting me He is very active and strong But he’s tiny
Mine is semi trained, he's not scared of me anymore, or really of people in general. He'll open his mouth for food when I walk pass. I already hand fed him too. But one day, he climbed out his tank and ended up under my bed. I was putting him back and he hissed at me. I was so sad.
@@nadezhdanedeva9953 meh, i always busy with stuff and travelling, and rarely touch my turtle but guess what, it keep swimming towards me and rarely hide under it's shell and also, it will swim towards me like really active for foods and if it is already full, it will just swim directly to me and keep looking at me Man... I love my turtle, but eh... It is only the male one, the female one is always hiding and not friendly
My red eared slider is extremely photogenic. I got her within the last year but she is about 8 years old. She still shys away with sudden movements. But if she is able to watch my hands from the get go she is fine. I agree with what you said about trust and hand feeding. It has worked great for me.
My dad used to be the only one they liked cause he was the one that sat in the chair next to them to feed them. My dads been gone to work on our other house for a month, so they love scrambling up to me when I see them cause I'm the only one that feeds them now 🤣 Mine are 6/7 years maybe too! You can do it!
Great tips for sure! There are a couple things to keep in mind: 1. Hand feeding may make the turtle associate your hand/presence with food, and thus they will grow a heavy dependence on being hand fed. My turtle will sometimes ignore food in the tank unless I touch it or have him follow with my finger. Now, I just drop the food and let him find it to make sure his natural hunting instincts develop. 2. Feeding a hatchling a snack for doing certain behavior may cause over feeding if done too often. Hatching turtles will always act hungry and welcome food whenever given, so balancing their meal portion with a snack portion is very important. Remember, a hatchling turtle should be fed the volume of food that fits the volume of their head daily, no more! Their shell may start pyramiding and gain weight too quickly. Hope this helps anyone!

My turtles are only friendly because when I was little I brought them out of their tanks and play video games while they climbed on me and also food, mainly food. I am their food-giver, that’s probably the main reason they trust me.
I have a red eared slider that's super tame, it was a classroom turtle for a few years and went to a house during covid, and it ended up in my care. The turt is so friendly, I can clean the tank and she nuzzles and uses my arm as a ledge. I have a yellow bellied slider that we rescued from one of the most horribly kept aquariums I've ever seen, and the difference between how trusting this turtle is with people compared to my red eared is insane. Warming up quickly, but so skittish and scared. But I can definitely second hand feeding your turtle. It definitely is one of the best ways to form trust with your turt!

Before this video, I earned my turtle’s trust. Sometimes, his head goes into his shell. Then, I gently look at him, and my turtle’s face goes out and we watch each other. That’s a recommendation to do first. Maybe try another way.
So uh 😐 my turtle 🐢 is weird (I think it’s because I named him Greg) He swims around all day and I usually feed him out of my hand but all of a sudden he’s to good to eat food out of my hand now. Also you might not believe this but he also does yoga 🧘♀️ on his rock and it’s hilarious 😂
I'm thinking of getting the turtle but I'm not sure how much things cost so I'm going to have to do some research but this is good what I just watched so thank you
Not really, your turtle is curious around its surroundings. Just be careful it doesn't fall when your holding it. They do like to claw you in order to run away.

Natalie Robles red eared sliders are very gentle and don’t bite intentionally most of the time, and if they accidentally bite it won’t hurt just make sure to move your hand very fast
I feed my turtles in different tank, so they're used to being handled. But no matter how voracious they are, not even once they've tried to bite me or mistaken my fingers as food. They still get angry and open their mouth during weekly bath though. Sometimes I let my female turtle explore around the house and she'd try to climb my hands if I ignored her too long. Her younger brother on the other hand, is quite shy. It took months until he allowed me to watch him eat.

O that’s cool to know my son be working on his a lot when he first got it couple days ago he is so scared and still is and he is happy he found this video to help him
My baby ( adult turtle) I always pet her/ hold her and shake the food bottle when I got her as a small turtle 13 years ago. So his method does work 2:00 Me being younger I keep grabbing her so I didn't even let her get use to movement. Coconut know by now when is feeding time and it's cute seeing her run to the bathroom and yes, I take her out of the water and let her walk around the house. Coconut knows my favorite shoes and she follows me sometimes and when I speack to her she listen and tries to find the sound. I just go down and see her face to face and keep talking to her. ^°^

O that’s cool to know my son be working on his a lot when he first got it couple days ago he is so scared and still is and he is happy he found this video to help him
This video is a terappin classic🔥
My baby ( adult turtle) I always pet her/ hold her and shake the food bottle when I got her as a small turtle 13 years ago. So his method does work 2:00 Me being younger I keep grabbing her so I didn't even let her get use to movement. Coconut know by now when is feeding time and it's cute seeing her run to the bathroom and yes, I take her out of the water and let her walk around the house. Coconut knows my favorite shoes and she follows me sometimes and when I speack to her she listen and tries to find the sound. I just go down and see her face to face and keep talking to her. ^°^
How I got my turtle I've been patient.I'm not so weconomical of me running with ryan hawaiian

Cute .
I have a painted turtle think around same age .i gave him his first worm "treat" he took it out of my hands today👍.he follows me everywhere kinda odd but awesome .i started waving like you did .i started moving one finger all the way 2 the right and then left and he swimmed along .as I was moving hand 2 the left he swam 2 the left lol .i put him on floor he goes in shell at first .i walk and he follows then give him a worm lol .i am attached 2 him .i lay on floor he walks over hides then comes closer .i had him over a month and he is like a cat or a dog .i also trained my cats not 2 kill anything small .training my cats was a bitch but works .i would have a bird the cat wanted it I said no no then cat looked at me then I gave him a treat that took 3 months 2 train .i have 3 cats 3 guinea pigs .1 Flemish bunny .2 gerbals .3hampsters .1 baby turtle. Trained my two male cats 15 yrs ago they are nice 2 my other animals .the other female cat I really nvr trained other saying no no then treat her with treats but she is good .love animals !!!!!😂
I’m so going to try this. I have a red bellied cooter and I bought a nice tank for him. I naturally walk up to him and wave at him and walk away. I try to feed him but he doesn’t seem to want to eat. Which makes me nervous so maybe I should start tying to hand feed him and see what he does
Wow thanks for these tips!
That’s what my baby yellow belly slider turtle does 😂😂
“I’m also teaching my turtle how to speak Spanish”
Well I just taught my turtle how to wash dishes !
