Teaching is a lot like performing, so the connections you're making are very smart.

I'm also a teacher, and my strategy to cope with emotional exhaustion is running, making dinner for myself, and watching UA-cam videos like yours.

So true. It gets harder when you have things going on in your home life that also take up a huge amount of emotional stamina. The leaving things in the classroom is something that many teachers are notoriously bad about. There is almost an unhealthy competion on many staffs I have been on for who can put the most hours in and do the most on weekends. Yours is a much better approach if you are looking to avoid burn out.

So, I didn't grow up in theatre, but have gotten into it later in life now. LOVE your videos!
Totally curious....do your students know about this channel? Do they watch? Do you make it part of your classes at all?
Keep going, your passion for theatre is REALLY cool!

Thank you for this insight! I tend to sing more opera rep currently, but I'm a Spinto soprano so all the roles I sing are really depressing and dramatic, and sometimes I find it really hard to incorporate my emotions into my character without Crying and cutting off my larynx, and then after I perform I'm drained from my characters' struggles. It's just something I need to pay attention to.

Thanks Tommy! You area smart man. ES is has to be part of the everyday process of living. Some days it easy to let go, some days not so much. Give yourself permission to have both kind of days.
    Tommy you are the best!

Teaching is acting!! I recently retired after teaching fifth grade for 32 years. I think all teachers enter the classroom each morning and become their "teacher" characters. It's a mindset and a set of behaviors that are different from your normal way of living. It's rewarding but COMPLETELY draining both emotionally and physically. There is no harder profession as far as I'm concerned. I am interested in your thoughts on this. I have always been interested in theater and acting. Now that I'm retired, I want to get back on stage as much as possible. I enjoy your videos very much!

Anything where you can compare teaching to something about acting makes me feel a little more confident. Thank you so much!

This is really helpful! Being someone who wants to 1) participate in more acting opportunities in the future and 2) become a drama and media teacher once I graduate, emotional stamina is something I've found that I really have to keep track of. Thanks for the tips!

Also, I usually tend to watch UA-cam after school and watch a tv show with my mum as my cool down strategy. Usually helps a lot!

Hi! My high school is doing a performance of Into The Woods and I have been cast The Witch. I am having a lot of trouble with acting someone of her age (when she is old and ugly). Do you have any tips on this? I would be extremely grateful. Thanks!
P.s. I loved your video on which witch is the best. Donna Murphy is amazing!

Grace Forrester dont know if this is too late but I recommend you watch the original Broadway musical, and voice wise I recommend you make your voice nasal like. Hope this helps

Hi Mr. Mash! Idk if you'll see this since this is an old video, but I remember you mentioned once you were a theatre education major in college. I have recently started college and am interested in pursuing that field, i was wondering if you could recommend a good college with that as a major? Finally your videos are so wonderful, funny while still being incredibly insightful and interesting!
    Thanks for your time!
