    I like the Falsettos cause what I take from it, is that:
    Everyone (Regardless of gender, love life, age, etc.) is problematic, sad and pathetic, life sucks and is awful, but that everything will be alright. And it's a beautiful thing to hear. This is at least my little lesson taken from it lol.

    i love falsettos so much but among other reasons, it's a gay musical but not a musical about being gay, which is less common. (also we need more lesbians on broadway)

    I was just listening to "I'm Breaking Down" when I got this notification! (I of coarse waited to finish the song before watching this, as cancelling Stephanie J Block mid song is a SIN!)

    I was lucky enough to see the original Falsettoland on a trip to New York in the early 90s and it is one of the highlights of my life.

    Falsettos is so amazing! The revival is so great! Each and every actor takes their character to heart and brings their all to it. The Falsettos is such a great show! It's so personal and near to my heart. I relate so much to Whizzer as a character and I've been telling all my friends to listen because it's definitely my favorite Broadway show of all time! I really just love it and structurally and technically and musically. I will stop rambling about how much I love the show and now move on to this cast! CHRISTIAN BORLE AND ANDREW RANNELLS MAKE ME CRY EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!!! Anthony Rosenthal always steals the show as Jason! Stephanie J. Block does an amazing job portraying Trina! Tracie Thoms and Betsy Wolfe both tear the house down! Andrew Rannells always breaks my heart with his rendition of The Games I Play! Brandon Uranowitz is great as Mendel and just that dynamic with Anthony made their songs just great! Christian Borle just takes this flawed character that is kind of a jerk, and makes him likable! I want to root for Marvin through the show! It's all around an amazing show and I love it to bits!

    I'd give anything to see them come home with a win on Sunday, but I'm ultimately so happy see the show recognised, with is seldom the case for shows so long closed. It clearly hit the Tony voters just as hard as it did the rest of us this time around! That cast was stunning, and I'd even venture better than the OBC. Also, the Cube concept was inspired and I wish Lapine was recognised for it!! I totally agree with you that it's way of treating 'gay issues' as having it as a show where someone just happens to be gay, and not having that as the issue is great! That Marvin is so flawed and that's not shed away from, and that his unlikability is in no way shaped by his sexuality to the viewer or any other character. God, it's just such a phenomenal show!

      Kate Donnelly I like that Christian Borle took a character that could have been very one note and just harsh and mean and made him redeemable and flawed rather than the one note boringness. Christian did an immensely great job and so did this entire cast!

    • @katedonnelly2224
      @katedonnelly2224 7 років тому +6

      Agreed, it's a character at risk of being totally unlikeable. But, Christian manages to have this unlikeability while still having the audience somewhat on Marvin's side and rooting for him and his happiness.

    I have absolutely no words for how much I love this show, specifically the revival. I could discuss the importance & symbolism for hours. the fact that the first act was written before the aids epidemic, and then after they combined the two, that didn't hint and/or there's no foreshadowing makes act 2 that much more heartbreaking. it's incredibly human, and people see themselves reflected in the characters. that's a true testament to a beautiful, solid piece of art. it's breathtaking.
    also don't even get me staRTed on the damn cast. I want to adopt them all.

    I discovered this show about 4 months ago and instantly fell in love. Please, please go more in depth on what you thought of the performances, when you make the video about the PBS broadcast. I assume you're probably planning on it, but I'm just very eager to hear your opinions on the the specific performances.

    Everytime I watch or listen to falsettos, its a totally new process of emotions. Its so chocked full of hidden meanings that surface each time, that its like opening a would over and over again. But its just,,,, reassuring that a play can do that to a person.

    Hey, I love your channel! Last year I followed as a monitor a discipline of Musical Cinema offered to Cinema students at the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco in Brazil and your videos were a MAJOR reference at the few times I took over the class. So, you are very important to my musical-theatre-fan formation, thank you! Here, though, I would like to ask how would you compare the original falsettos recording (and I also mean the separate cast recordings of each one act show) to the revival cast recording? I love all of them, but somehow for me it feels sooo much different, but I can't really put my finger on why.

      Emily Pearce hi this is comment is a year old but it’s a metaphor for how childish the boys are. they’re singing in a falsetto (har har) and behaving like toddlers even though most of them are late 30s-early 40s

    I'm at minute five. You have used the word "fascinating" at least five times to describe the daily horror show we went through for years, beginning with nobody, no doctor anywhere knowing what was with the gay lepers - HTLV3 - NOBODY knew how it was transmitted, gay people were not welcome at communion, funeral homes would not take their bodies, we had to call the county for pickup, huge orange HAZARD NO ENTRY signs were posted outside Hospital room doors and on walls. All the deaths of your dearest friends and lover took from a year, maybe 18 months, maybe even 3 or so of pure misery and illness, not at all like now, just months and months of hell. I guess the time depended partially on when/if you could get a diagnosis. Closeting was so much the norm that the joke at the time was the worst thing about HIV (or HTLV3 at the time) was not dying, but telling your mother you are gay. There would be many hospitalizations between diagnosis and death, most often with pneumonia, the gallant nurses would pretend we were having a reunions. Afterwards, of course there was no home service, no VNA who would step foot in your home! Your home care became very complex, involving boxes and boxes of gloves and bleach, while trying to communicate love and touch without having anything but rumors to explain how it spread. Air? Surfaces? Nobody knew. The Encephalitis dementia is always fun especially when it occurred to formerly articulate men who wrote professionally or were lawyers. And I watched beautiful men who took pride in their physiques never feel bravo enough to leave their apartments because of having Karposi's Sarcoma and wasting bodies and minds. I could give you thousands of examples of injustice, misery and unnecessary suffering due to ignorance and discrimination, having nothing to do with the simultaneous ravaging illness that I'm sure you would enjoy and find "fascinating". And there was no treatment for years and years, which no one remembers, just bandaids for the pneumonia or the lesions or whatever symptom you happen to be showing at any given time (often multiple). No cocktail/s, even every solitary medication was a trial. The CDC was begging for research funding, Reagan refused to allow the words to be used, although 7 years later, he was forced to allot a tiny bit of money through, too little too late. I actually intended to write one sentence about the tone-deaf repeated use of the word "fascinating" which, now, in retrospect, I realize is actually fine, (unless you lived through the mid to late 70s, which nobody else here did, and so nobody else could ever possibly understand.). So I'm sorry I got carried away. I guess I came at this pre-annoyed because every movie or book you see about this time is so sanitized and sweet and inauthentic, it's nauseating. The ill person is sad, his friends are sad, the doctor is sad, he ge+ts sick, everybody has a sweet goodbye scene, the guy croaks, there's a tearful service, his friends wipe their eyes, hold hands and smile warmly at each other and scene. It just didn't happen like that, it seems like every other day we got the news that someone we cared about had gotten sick or died horrifically, we lost the best of the best and it wasn't ever fascinating.
