Shalom and salamu alaikum everyone. I want to point out something crucial, which might even give more perspective to this question. Historically, it isn't until very recently the masses could read and write. Before the invention of printing, it was very hard to copy books since it was done by hand, letter for letter and page for page. As such, books in general were rare and only few educated people were literate. Furthermore, until very recently the bible weren't actually translated into many languages, they were either in Latin, Greek (or English?). So what the masses knew about Christianity came not from the bible itself, but the churches and priests. So there was no need for them to correct anything. Even if there were people who knew how to read and write, they would have to finds a translated work of the bible or learn a new language. When the printers were invented, translated bibles were mass produceds. By the time that books started becoming more available for the masses and more people became literate, it was too late. So you see, there was no reason to correct anything since in the majority of Christianity's existence, people got their information from the churches and priests and they could make up whatever they wanted without anyone noticing.
So the natural follow up question becomes, why weren't the churches genuin in teaching Christianity, well there were groups that were, that wanted to go back to the original theology, however you see in those times the churches were either rulers of nations or owned by the rulers, so the information given out to the masses was solely for gain. That's why you could once upon a time, pay of your sins in churches. If you sinned you only had to pay the church and then you would get forgiven and get paradise. If you didn't have gold, well boohoo. Churches under the rule of kings couldn't do much even if they were genuin in their beliefs, since they could only teach what the kingdom allowed. And Churches that were the rulers? Well it was all political, that's why we had so many crusaders. And recently almost every one are literate, which means that the scriptures of the biggest religion can actually be read and understood by most, which is also one of the reasons why atheism is growing faster than any religion. Because the Christians actually read their bibles and realise the very conflicting and erroneous character of it. And that is also why islam is the fastest growing religion, because islam is Christianity without the corruption that has tainted it throughout history.
Might be doing all the dirty stuff for church has done throughout history; slavery, murder, the general debt degradation of humanity 🤔

*Nelson Florez:* There can't be ANY "contradictions" in the Torah, since when God gave it to us on Mt. Sinai, He told us it is ETERNAL, and therefore He has PRESERVED it down through the centuries - otherwise He couldn't tell us it's "ETERNAL", i.e. STILL in effect today!
Janis Hart but there are scribal error some even had to be buried. The slight one are sent for repair. A good copy will cost you a mortgage.
@@lampkin9287: Yes, as you say, if scribes DID make errors when copying the Torah - you're right, they had to bury that part that they had worked on, and start over - not even ONE error was allowed. When Torahs get old, they MAY be repaired if possible, but otherwise, they are buried due to their sacred nature.
"Scribal errors" are only in copying the letters - they in NO WAY change the MEANING of God's Eternal Torah.

They never expected ordinary people to able to read a Latin Bible (or even afford one) . When the printing press allowed the printing of 'cheap' Bibles in other languages they desperately tried to suppress this by executing anyone involved. Of course they couldn't stem the flow and it was also much too late to fix all the internal contradictions.

I think the caller asked about the church fathers as in the council of niacia not the apostles, of course the apostles had nothing to correct there was nothing in their time but the council of naicia they came up with the concept of the Trinity among other things they could have certainly cleaned up the contradictions and the mistakes but they didn't, which is in my opinion the hand of G-d so that people today can see for themselves and drop xtianity

One says he died that is it.read it in context not out of context. Meaning before n after the verse. No contradictions in the Torah or Tenak

The irony is that Christians base their faith on the Jewish Bible (Old Testament) and then tell the Jews they don't understand it.
I was can't get my head round that question. Why Jewish Scripture sent by Jewish prophets in their own language is now being interpreted by another people. I find it funny to say the least.

Dudley Barnes A nephesh is not the same thing as a neshema. They are different things. Yes Ezekiel says the nephesh will die, that is not the neshema. God even has a nephesh- Leviticus 26:11.

However I do not believe we have a soul that is a separate conscious being (An immortal soul) to our actual existence. We are a soul.
According to Gen 2:7 God breath into Adams nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul. He was now a fully conscious functioning being. He was given life (soul) not given (a) life. He just began his life as a soul.
When we died we cease to be a soul, we no longer exist as a life. The spirit of life (the principle of life, the energy) that is in all living creatures leaves the body as it returns to the ground.
** Ps 146:4 says His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his dust; In that very day his thoughts perish.
And God has soul he is an the everlasting life that gives life to all. He is the source of life. Ps 36:9 You can speak of yourself as, my soul, myself, my life, my inner being, but they are just expressions that highlight your inner most feelings and emotions of what you are as a life or a soul. You see these two words נשמת neshemat and לנפש l'nephesh . The verse says that God neshemat (breathed) chaim( life) and ויהי v'yahi (became) ha adam( the man) l'nephesh ( a being) chayah( living).
Animals are called living beings/ "souls"/nepheshot. However, only man had a neshema placed in him.( in his image as you have noted ) And it means we are made with a nephesh( being, desires, animal instincts) and a neshema(soul). This is separate from the nephesh as shown in this verse and in Job 26:4

The books of the New Testament weren't decided until the council of Carthage in 397. Although the consensus was that the books we have now were accepted as early as the second century.
And the stupidest thing the New Testament came up with is to have four account of Jesus.

I’m a fan of Tovia Singer, but here - as a Catholic- I have to make my point. The Catholics don’t base their faith on the scriptures, but on the tradition (aka community) as a whole. That’s why all the contradictions and mistakes in the NT are irrelevant. When I was young I followed a catholic workshop about NT inaccuracies and errors. The speaker (a Gesuit theologian) concluded with something like: Jews venerate a book (Tanak), the Muslim venerate a book (the quaran) and the Protestant venerate a book (the bible). The catholics refuse to venerate a Book, they venerate the church; this is why we have the Pope and we don’t care about the details in the texts.... by the way this is why It took me a while to understand the Tovia Singer argumentation because I never though that this theological details (e.g. do the Jews actually wait for a messia in person) were irrelevant. Now I’m following Tovia’s speech and I’m learning a lot! Thanks

Something happened around year 0 - but what actually went on is difficult to tell. Sweden is Christian Protestant. I have always had problems with "open your heart to Jesus" and stuff like that. But i think Jesus in the new testament for a reason. Christianity does not have anything like the 615 commandments or the such. Its almost impossible for protestants not to fall short in front of god. Catholics at least have their confessions to get rid of their sins. There are ZERO "contradictions" in the Hebrew scriptures, and if you would learn from the people your SUPPOSED to learn the scriptures from (as commanded by God in Deut. 17:8-11) - the JEWISH people (i.e. rabbis, who, in the absence of the Temple, stand in for the Temple Priests), you would learn how wrong Christianity is, and about the outright LIES they have been indoctrinating us with, for CENTURIES!

All of the critiques leveled at the New Testament by Rabbi Singer, can be put on the the Jewish scriptures. There are supposed contradictions and textual issues in the Old Testament as well. It is a fact that the NT is the most we'll attested document from the ancient world. Second place is way behind. I do like and respect Rabbi Singer very much despite his criticisms of Christianity...

What about the chronological, historical and scientific mistakes in the hebrew bible that we dont shed light on? Again the answer is blind faith as believers take every word for granted without questioning credibility.
*Raffi Donerian:* There can't be ANY "mistakes" in the Torah, since when God gave it to us on Mt. Sinai, He told us it is ETERNAL, and therefore He has PRESERVED it down through the centuries - otherwise He couldn't tell us it's "ETERNAL", i.e. STILL in effect today! The Psalms say "The Law of the Lord is PERFECT....".
The Hebrew Bible/Tanach is even worse than the new testament gospels. There's no evidence to suggest the Torah Moses and later prophets got, is the same one modern Jews use. The manuscript evidence for the Torah only goes back to the Middle Ages. Around the 12 century. But the Tanach narrative discusses events in the BCE era/antiquity. No way to validate these stories with the lacking historical evidence.

With all due respect, rabbi knows that religions are based on blind faith thats why all fail to prove anything to be absolutely true in tanakh or greek bibles. So what he says applies on his beliefs too. Let us be fair and objective not to fall into contradiction.
Well you have no evidence who wrote the torah. Tradition has it held as moses. So the argument that says an author wrote such and such has to be allowed for we allow you your indiscretion of doubt.

Can you imagine if they did not have the old testament to piggyback off of, how stupid this trinity story would sound. Why should the Messiah be able to do something God could not, namely bringing peace throughout the earth?
Maybe Christians need to realize the Messiah did not come to die. Why would God predestine a person to hell assuming that is where a person would go, who killed the Messiah, and that that was a role needed to be played?
Too bad the wisdom of the Jews was not able to oversee the spreading of messianic thought, the ministry of birth from above, the Ruach Hokodesh in the Gentiles instead of to them, and the anointing of the Holy Ghost.
God did give us a consequential portion of responsibility, but perhaps we cannot understand His foreknowledge of events because we think linearly and God exists outside of time and space. The 9th Chapter of Daniel reveals something of this, coupled with the Olivet discourse.
