I’m a clinical psychologist who earned his doctorate at a university that attempted to integrate psychology and Christianity. For so many years of my life I tried to find ways around the horrible messages people were getting both from the Bible and from people who used the Bible to manipulate others. A few months ago at age 73 I had enough of my own hypocrisy and began to listen to atheist utube programs debunking everything that I had known but overlooked. I am so relieved to have walked away from believing the Bible is the word of God and inherent. Thank you for taking the time to be a skeptic. I am enjoying becoming a skeptic myself.

That's a great achievement after so many years. As a clinical psychologist you know people can change, no so much aspects of their personality but their behaviour, thoughts, beliefs and to some extent their emotional responses. You have shown this regarding even long-indoctrinated and practised thinking habits. Well done.

But I hope you are not grossly missing the mark. Because You said atheist debunking everything.... But it doesn't take an Athiest to debunk anything. It takes someone with common sense, logical reasoning, mathematical law & natural law. Athiests are a bad example because they are far off the mark. Because athiests are subtly saying that they are spiritually dead and there is no core consciousness, which is just as insane as believing in a fictional being that says you should dash babies against boulders. So, if you are jumping on the atheist band-wagon -- what you are essentially doing is jumping from one $#!T-Pit to another. Because there is an ultimate highest power creator -- and if I were you, or anybody reading this comment, I would suggest that you really be careful in what ideals & ideas you entangle yourself with.

      1) Eve decieved Adam, and lost the spiritual authority if you like
2)No forgivness without bloodshed is obvious when you think. Adam was killed by his own action, thats if adam is to live he shouldnt do that action. Its justice. Eye for an eye tooth for a tooth.
Thats the first two, you better read the bible in its right context and then make the critique

Let me correct myself, SIN is the best recruitment tool for atheism....The ONLY folks I personally know that left Christianity left because they began engaging in a behavior that was un-biblical. Not because they did some 3 year apologetics study
..basically either they shacked up with someone(un-biblical stuff) or they just wanted to live an intoxicated life(un-biblical)...oh sure afterwards they did a little google study to "disprove" christianity but in truth their ACTIONS and lifestyle choices were their primary motivation...I'd rather just say, " hey I just don't wanna follow this God's rules" that'd at least be honest...

'Scuse me, but your fear is showing.
It's my experience that, in this context, the loudest are the most fearful of the wrath of a supernatural entity for which they have no proof. The noise doesn't hide the envy you feel at those escapees from the thrall of religion you mention who are now having a great time.
And even if you judge their escape a failure, at least they've 'done it their way' while you are waiting on your submissive knees for a nod from your master.

The point of the bible is to demonstrate the absolute evil and sinfulness of man. It is very much like a police report. If you actually read the bible and you missed that point, I don't know what to tell you.
Adam and Eve sin, their kid kills his brother, folks are at war all the time, famine comes and folks just get worse. Folks steal, kill, lie, cheat, look for loop holes, rape etc.... Great leaders become selfish adulterers....The whole point is to help us see what absolute shits mankind is....That is the point.

I grew up as the youngest child of a preacher for the Church of Christ, and this denomination is very literal in their interpretation of the bible. I am currently in the middle of my deconstruction of faith, being now a middle aged transman. I still live with family members who are devout Christians still, and the amount of times that my family has turned to me and told me that I am sinning and deserve to burn in hell if I don't "deny myself" and turn back to God...I am disgusted that a religion that DEMANDS cruelty to ones own family ever got any traction whatsoever in the world. It's crazy to think about. Even more sad that they don't see anything wrong with it. They even see it as morally righteous and GOOD. Betraying your own family for the sake of an invisible sky daddy is so disgusting!

He isn't just standing by like a dictator, he came and suffered for you, that you wouldn't have to go through those lethal punishments, God is not just love, He is also justice, the rules are simple, you live by him, you'll never suffer, if you'll do sin(which is clearly wrong) then you reap the consequences, you and me broke the law, we have sinned, if he didnt care he'd have already destroyed all of us, he wouldn't have to send his son for the sake of mankind, but he did. Imagine a man is found to have tortured and killed his son. He is brought before a judge and says, “Well you see, I told my neighbor next door not to eat apples off my one prize tree but he listened to this demon disguised as a talking snake who talked him into eating them and I got really pissed. I cursed his entire family and told them to leave town but I really loved the guy and his family but I needed to have some retribution so I decided I would have my own son tortured and killed so I would have retribution. So now I felt I was paid what was due..
Oh You think I am a horrible person, sick and demented? Why not at all, for you see its not so horrible for I and my son are one and the same! That was me suffering like that as well as my son who is really me! Actually we are one and the same and, in fact, my son and I have existed for eternity and my son actually existed before his mother was born.
Now don’t believe these pagans who tell you evil came into the world when Pandora opened that forbidden box. Yup, that is a lie and pagan superstition but my story is true.
Now you must believe what I say as true even if it seems absurd to you ..believe it on something called “faith” which means you simply believe it without reason or facts. It’s a great virtue to think this way and a sin to think otherwise. And if it you don’t believe it, when you die I will send you into everlasting punishment..That’s right. I will punish you with everlasting fire. If you believe in me even if it makes no sense, well then you will be rewarded with everlasting bliss..no matter how many crimes you commit.

Mark 9:453 In Hell, the fire never goes out.
Matthew 13:42,50 blazing furnace with weeping and gnashing of teeth and
      *Matthew 25:46 Eternal (αἰώνιον) punishment
2 Thesalonians 1:9 punished with eternal (αἰώνιον) destruction*
Revelation 21:8 a fiery lake , second death. Doesn't say whether it's eternal or not.
I am not saying there are no verses that contradict these, but eternal punishment is threatened in the Bible.

And how about "the angels of the Lord casting tares (weeds - unbelievers) on the flames of hell"? And then there are the horrors of Revelations. You could do another twenty on that chapter alone.

It’s author is a Jewish follower of Christ, and this book is an attack on two things, the Roman Empire( the beast is Nero) and was widely seen as such when it began to circulate, and the non-Jewish followers of Christ, thus the screed against “peoples who say they are Jews but are not”.

How about the Piegan version of the Blackfeet Indian Creation Story versus the Blood version? Or how about we teach the Greek mythology creation story found in Hesiod's work and compare it with the Roman version found in Ovid's work? How about those Norse Sagas and Eddas, huh?

      * No prophets, angels or messengers
      * No conversion and all are born as Sanatan (Eternal souls)
      * Salvation is guaranteed upon perfecting ones deeds and experiencing an eternity of bliss becoming one with God
      * Vedic scriptures have no history whatsoever and is just full of an eternity of knowledge as a kickoff point for mankind to know and prosper from.
      * God doesnt forgive Sins and one has to reap the fruits of ones deeds but gives an eternity of chances to perfect oneself by undergoing births and deaths until one perfects itself and worthy of salvation.
      * God doesnt have human like emotions of anger, jealousy, hate, revenge, discrimination etc etc and neither God gets affected by anyones acts. God remains in an eternity of Bliss

It's not the right choice if it means walking away from Jesus. If your church teaches false doctrine - "another Jesus" "another gospel" by "another spirit" other than the Holy Spirit / The Spirit of Truth ; by all means leave deception. Pray and ask God for wisdom and spiritual discernment. There are doctrines of demons and seducing spirits to lead people astray. There are false prophets and false teachers. There will be much deception in the last days before Jesus returns. The world will pat you on the back and tell you that you made the right choice in leaving the church if it includes forsaking God, the Bible, and Jesus. Whose lies do you think their heads are filled with? Satan blinds the minds of unbelievers. Jesus came to rescue us out of the kingdom of spiritual darkness and make us born again through the power of God, adopted into the family of God in the kingdom of light. Jesus is the light of the world, but those that love the world don't come into the light. The Bible is the Sword of the Spirit; the spiritual weapon to be used against Satan. That is why he hates the Bible so much - and he wants all of us to be unarmed when he wars against us. The battle is not between God and Satan. Satan would be like a teaspoon of butter fighting against the sun - no contest. The war is between mankind and Satan. He has been here much longer and he is wiser, but God gives His children authority and power to overcome. In the natural realm, Jesus was stripped naked, spit upon, mocked, beaten, scourged, crucified. In the spiritual realm, Jesus conquered all the power of Satan over and over and over again. He always has and He always will. Jesus reigns supreme in the spiritual realm now. He will rule supreme in the natural realm when he returns.

I believe in Santa Claus because I was raised believing in Santa Claus. How do I know it's true? I just KNOW it's true. I mean MILLIONS of kids believe in Santa Claus, how can they all be wrong? He has books written about him and songs sung about him. Why would anyone bother doing that if he wasn't real? Besides, I don't want to live in a world where there IS no Santa Claus. He makes me feel SO good. Every year at Christmas he brings me toys and gifts and candy. It really gives me a sense of bliss. Me and my friends get together and have Christmas meetups and talk about how awesome he is and how good he makes us feel. Plus, one time I fell off my bike and hit my head and I saw him in my dream giving me the BEST present ever, so I know it was his way of saying to keep believing in him and that's the present I'll get next year. I just have faith that it's true. I also leave cookies out for him and when I wake up THEY ARE HALF EATEN!! I don't know what other kind of proof you would need!? I know people in other countries don't believe in Santa Claus or they believe in a different kind of Santa Claus, but that's just because that's how they were raised. I also hear stories about how throughout the year when it's not Christmas, supposedly Santa Claus is not that nice of a guy and he beats his wife and is a drunk, but I try not to focus on THAT stuff, I just focus on the good things he does once Christmas comes around and how he makes ME feel. I also jump around from city to city sometimes on Christmas. I try to find the BEST city where the Santa they talk about gives the best presents. So far, I really like Beverly Hills. I have just found that for me, that Santa really speaks to me and makes me feel the happiest. I tried rural Louisiana one time and it just wasn't for me. I feel bad for you that you don't get presents every year because you don't believe in him, but I guess to each their own. :-) May Santa bless you next year!?

And my advice to you is pick the lords side because then you’ll truly feel happiness.

I feel like women especially in the congregation of Jehovah Witnesses are very limited to what they can do in the Kingdom Hall. Also I don’t quite understand why a Jehovah Witness woman has to wear a covering over their head when their husband does a prayer. We are incapable of loving & obeying God in our sinful state, so it doesn't follow that he threatens us to love him...he simply rips out the believer's heart of stone and gives them a heart of flesh...No more desiring trite, sinful, selfish, absurd things that rebel against the Creator...The believer has joy in the Creator...the relationship restored.
God is under no obligation to save anyone (remember evil, rebellious and wicked), and yet he does. So yes, laying down his life for the rebel sinner is very loving...That's why it's called "Amazing Grace." It saved a wretch like me...once was lost, but now am found, was blind but now I see.

How does anyone fully understand the Bible when the Bible as it is is not as it was? The conference of Constantinople sat down and had books removed from the bible and wanted all the removed books destroyed. If you don't have the complete work how do you make a truly informed decision and not a brainwashed decision? Also one question that was never answered was again on why Judas was damned, he was used as a pawn.

(13:14).....death may be the terminal punishment, yet a person may according to scripture be resurrected. Worse than death? Not hell fire torment, but being cast into Gehenna or the Lake of Fire meaning everlasting destruction from which there is no hope of return, no hope of a resurrection. In that sense death is not considered the worst punishment as the complete annihilation as described in Rev 20:14 and Rev 21:8 is more permanent and everlasting.

I spent several years working in a state mental hospital and I worked with a woman who gouged out her right eye due to that verse in Matthew. She also had bit off one of her fingers, but it was never totally clear if that was also religiously motivated.
Either way, I watched her for years fervently praying for her illness to be relieved.
I also watched countless other patients doing the same (praying for relief). It was very sad to see them spinning into despair because all their lives, they've been told to pray for help and that God always answers prayer, yet they sink further as they feel a hopeless sense of abandonment.

When people try to justify slavery in the bible by saying things like "god couldn't abolish slavery because people wouldn't be ready for it." I remind them that this is supposed to be a god who created the entire cosmos out of nothing more than his wish for it to exist. You're not allowed to use the words "god couldn't" and you lose the argument the moment they pass your lips.

If you want, and I seriously doubt that, real Bible study, you should engage in it yourself. These scholars are taking verses out of context and even then they interpret it terribly wrong. Like torment... God wants the people to suffer with plague, war and food shortage. God wants people to repent and the authority is given according to their own choice not to respect the giver of peace, health and food. So basically people say to God you don't exist and we don't want you but sure we like peace, health and food. So yes, God is having enough but still is open for people to repent, which they don't. Rebellious lot is mankind. That is a fact.

You did good jobs to read the whole New Testament in detail. There are many bad translations and wrong interpretations of the Bible. I am sympathetic for you being bullied in your childhood or your mother's divorce. The both of you are very handsome and intelligent. Do you know why you are handsome and intelligent. God, your Creator blessed you so much to be handsome and intelligent. God is merciful even to those who are ungrateful. Most of us enjoy amazing gifts and benefits from God: air, water, cars, computers, robots. If we made robots and the robots were rebellious against us, we can destroy the robots. God is patient, long-suffering. God does not want anybody to perish but to repent and to go to heaven. Usually the unrepentant criminals in prisons blame judges or victims. But repentant prisoners try to change their life-styles. When I found myself a sinner recognizing my heart full of evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, and slander (Matthew 15:19), the death and resurrection of Jesus became good news of great joy to me. I hope that you will realize the good news of Jesus for yourself, too. May God bless you!

just a little out of context there, don't you think? you did not quote the entire verse. Was that intentional? Not to mention out of context with the whole passage. Why worry about it? If you don't want to follow the teaching of Jesus and his followers, then don't. Your choice. You can always follow the principle of Do What Thou Wilt from Aleister Crowley or Anton Szandor LaVey, right? After all, if Methodological and Philosophical Naturalism are true, then it really doesn't matter a hell of a lot, does it?Jesus was just some illegitimate, kid, right? He was just the son of a carpenter, right? He was just one more in a long line of religious cult leaders, right? After all, religion is useless, right? Unless, of course, it's the religion of Naturalism / Secular Humanism / Atheism? Those are all so meaningful to our souls, right?Jesus, just a mere man? How on earth did this mere man (starting as a carpenter and only peaching & teaching for 3 1/2 years before being railroaded in a farce trial and plotted against by both religious and civil authorities) have such an effect upon the world we live in? He didn't really do miracles and have power over supernatural demons and the natural body, did he? Legend? Liar? Lunatic? or Lord? I'll go with the later and continue to believe him in a world full of naysayers.

Tyndalic, do you think it might be a little sick and "twisted" to quote half a verse that seems to support your argument, while dishonestly ignoring the other half that brings the perfect balance to marital relationships? Now why do I say "dishonestly? Because a slightly more honest way to cite your verse would have been, "1 Cor 7:4a." For those who'd like to know what you omitted, it was this: "and the husband gives authority over his body to his wife." 1 Cor 7:4b.

...I attend a local church in my decimated community of Paradise California...I have studied other philosophies deeply (namely Advaita Vedanta and Buddhism) and traveled extensively, living in Europe for decades. My conclusion is simple: Love all sentient beings, be kind to yourself, your community and the planet and be of selfless (no thanks, favour or renumeration is expected or required) service to others as other is none other than Self... Self is whole (Holy)
We often hear or read, "we are One" ... separation (duality) clearly shows opposites define each other. Cop and robber are two sides of a single coin. And, clearly, no word, concept or idea is the absolute truth. We may call it a tree but a tree simply Is and you, simply, Are...
The truth, by definition, is that which cannot/does not change. Therefore, the entire cosmos is only relative, not absolute for every"thing" is in a constant state of flux/flow and on its way out.
Could what we truly are be that which is unchanging, beyond boundaries, definition and all, so-called, dimensions of space/time?
Good "pointers" may be stillness... silence...space... emptiness

The problem I have always had about the story of Jephthah is that he was considering a human sacrifice no matter what.
I mean I guess a goat could wander out of the door of his house, since people back the did live in the second story above their livestock, but that was usually the way poorer people lived. Jephthah was fairly wealth, so I can't imagine he lived above his livestock.
Still, would a goat or ram be coming out to greet you? It seems more likely that he had servants and expected any of those servants to come out to greet him.
Would that be any better? He was willing to sacrifice any human that came out to greet him. That's sick.
I don't want to worship any god that is going to accept, much less demand a human sacrifice. This is the kind of crappy behavior that christians attribute to devil worshippers and other cults. Any religion based on the bible is as bad if not worse than any cult or devil worshippers if they follow that bible at all.

oh my god (pun intended) i've been arguing with religious people about predestination for like 20 years now! this is literally the first time i've seen someone else talk about it. i eye roll every time i hear that "god gave everyone free will" crap. and instead of a game, like you compared it to, i always argue that if he knows all and knows the beginning and the end, then there's no way anyone has free will and this is just one big soap opera that he's dvr'd and seen 1000 times already. then i'd argue the fact that if people do have free will then there's no way that this "knows all" god knows everything. 1. the biggest of sinners changes his ways and starts believing.. what, is god like " ***GASP***whoa, i DID NOT see that coming!!" or is he like "yeah, i already knew that was gonna happen... why? CAUSE I KNOW EVERYTHING HAHAHA! i've seen this movie a billion ti.. errr, i have a plan my children....." makes no sense. 2. if you authored a book, you are the creator of the characters in that book and you know exactly how the book ends because... well, you wrote it! at NO POINT in that book can one of the characters do something different and go on another path that isn't the one that the author gave him. sure, you can say that all the characters in the book can make their own choices/write their own ending all you want but they can't. the book is already written! it's usually about that time when a believer would hit me with the "god works in mysterious ways.. nobody can understand his divine plan" speech. smh

Funny how some atheists can criticique with intelligence when adherents to the word cannot. These gentlemen are tops, and they have taught me much in this video.
#1 about the silence of women in the congregation: this is rule #1 in my husband's church, a small and rural independent Church of Christ. I'm a lifelong atheist and skeptic but attended with him for 5 months after we were married, just to try to fit in with his family (guess how that worked out). I questioned why women had no role other than to work in the nursery and to teach the kiddie classes and got the reason given in #1. That answer was no answer for me and I closed the conversation with wondering why any self-respecting modern woman can belong to such a church. We never broached the subject again.
I also asked how a woman could ask a question or voice a concern: turns out she is to have her husband ask and, if she's not married, she is to ask through any man. Very strange.
