As I live in the Highlands, first thing I did to my camper was to fit All season tyres. What a difference when winter starts. Many thanks for sharing. ATB
Some people may watch this and think why were you out on the road. Life is different in a camper and sometimes you’re forced to move. Well done filming it, highly stressful but very useful to everyone to see what can happen. We are glad you are ok and Harry lives to fight another day 😁👍
I think you both handled this amazingly well. No panic (except for that bit in the pit of your stomach LOL) and no one got hurt. Thats the scary part isn’t it…lying in bed that night and thinking about what COULD’VE happened? We all learn by making mistakes, and I bet it’ll be a good long while before you make that particular one again. I call that a win! I rarely fix the battle scars on my SUV camper…every time I get in and see the scuffs and scrapes and dings it reminds me to not be as stupid as I was THAT time LOL! Truly thankful you are both safe and sound…now down the road you go!
Thanks for watching and commenting Yeah we look back with a wry smile - to the lessons we then replaced the tyres in a couple of episodes time Like you I haven’t fixed the damage and not sure I will as it’s superficial and as you say a story scar
Congratulations to both of you for continuing your adventure of Ireland - a lot of people would have given up. I must say Jane your voice over commentary is superb - informative and soothing.
Just seen this and my heart goes out you both, there but for the grace of god go so many of us learning all about this new life we have chosen. Don’t be hard on yourselves or each other, you got through it, you’ve learned a lot and you laughed! Move on and have a great time in Ireland.
Can’t say I didn’t feel sick to my stomach as couldn’t see me getting out without being dragged down the hill to straighten him But we look back with a wry smile Thanks for watching
My heart goes out to you both. Torr head is not for the faint hearted anytime of the year, nevermind winter. Hope the rest of your N.Ireland trip went well 😊
No to be honest the following day ( next video ) we realised that it got worse so probably in a way good it halted us early Thanks for watching and commenting
Ooh, I felt for you there. I think Harry came off quite lightly considering, at least his wheels and lights weren't damaged. I bought a pair of wheel snowsocks for Big Zuu last winter but never needed to use them
Yes I thought we were having to be dragged straight as he was really wedged and ramming him into the bank was last resort Thanks for watching and commenting
Goodness that was a nail biter of an episode. Well done dor extricating Harry. At least the damage wasn't too excessive. I know the feeling though. Amble has a couple of Daryl dents that were caused by my own stupidity.
Thanks for watching Yep kicking myself but so far the scars are still there as cost to repair is high so it makes him ours lol 😂 Never thought I would right him to be honest and he would need pulling straight
I so sympathise with you both, what a stressful, traumatic event and even more amazing you were able to film it...I was transfixed watching as to what would happen! Very pleased you got Harry out and it was sorted, great video!
Thank you so much! - to be honest if Jane hadn’t pressed record we would only be able to show the outcome as I was to busy melting down which was more than the road was doing lol Thanks for watching
There is something comforting about being trapped in a Camper Van in foul weather. The two of you deserve credit for remaining calm during this hardship. I know you developed quite an appetite, but what a monstrous amount of food you consumed!
All is well that ends well. All-terrain tyres and snow socks are a good idea!! Don’t worry about bumps and scrapes in the van. That’s all part of the adventure and can be repaired.
Those roads looked treacherous. Must have been quite alarming. Felt scared for you watching it! We all do stuff we regret. You did so well getting out of the situation. And now the wind arrives!
Oh my word, that was stressful on both ends for ye, well done getting put of that fix. Ye learned alot from that situation. Id be the same comfort foid, and relax, it had been a tough day.
Yeh we went the following day as the snow had completely gone and can see how challenging it could be although in our SWB it wasn’t as bad as a bigger rig although there is a 3 tonne limit in the road we are just under that Thanks for watching
SUCH A FAN of being REAL, and also, of TRYING things! You both are unscathed ... and Harry is good too. A few scars make him more interesting. BIG LIKE!!!
There's no adventure without adventure scars (on the van). My van is coming on for 10 years old, and I've learned that its a lot easier to be less precious about it and enjoy where it takes us. And this is coming from someone who has OCD about many other things.
Well Harry has many of them and your right he is now of an age where I am less precious but still in the emotional phase of letting go lol Thanks for watching
Bless you all, so glad Harry was only slightly scratched, and you got yourselves sorted, a drink in a friendly pub and hot comfort food is a great healer. ❤️🚐🐾 Xx
Don't be too hard on yourself. We have all been there in van life. It seemed like a good idea at the time! Fair play to u for filming under such stressful conditions. 👍

Oh my gosh !!! What a stressful experience ! I'm so glad we don't have snow and ice like that here ! Thank goodness Harry wasn't too badly "injured" 😂😂😂
That was a fairly standard plate of sausages in my book 😂. Glad you managed to get out of that tight spot, experience is the best teacher, you will be more the wiser next time👍
Torr head is no place for a camper van even in the best of weather. You'd have discovered that was the easy part! Glad you made it out without too much damage.
Yes signs say not over 3 ton but Harry is that so we actually went as you will see the following day as the ice disappeared overnight and no way we would of made it in the icy roads for sure It’s flat on the map 😂 Live and learn
Just get winter tyres on the van ,i had them on my vauxhall vivaro like your transit auto, but so long has you not got lead foot they last the same amount of time.
Scary Stew and Jane, well done, not the easiest thing to share. I came to the same conclusion about tyres on my Norway trip but waiting to do a few more miles on my existing set. Do you carry a row rope? I got one for my trip. Thanks again for a really true to life video.
Yes it shook me a bit as well as feeling a fool - moved to all season tyres as you will see soon Yep I have tow rope that I use in an unusual way soon lol 😜 I couldn’t find the eye bolt was the issue - it’s in the engine bay !!!! Thanks for watching
Three or four sausages is the most stupid question ive ever heard. Great vlog, warts n all. Love your adventures, were off to ireland september. Happy travels.
Tyre socks/chains are always handy to keep in the boot in such conditions. Also - appropriate winter graded tyres are probably a wise investment, but I’m sure you guys realise that already after this incident.
Do not beat yourself up !! personally I’d have done the same and a good story to show your grand kids 😂and Harry has war wounds. It’s hard to judge ice , you won’t know till you’re actually in it .well done both good luck 👍👍👍🏴🏴🇬🇧🇨🇦🦢
Yep I thought I was invincible and soon got cut down to size Amazed I managed to right him - thought I was going to shave to get dragged out Thanks for watching and commenting
When driving in those conditions put your inside wheels in the gutter ,there will be gravel in there which will help with traction ,also a camper van ,so boil some water and put it around your wheels to melt some ice and help you get out. The best practice is to park up in some safe place and wait for the thaw, you are in Ireland we don't get very long frozen spells, better be safe than sorry.
You won't be last to feel Stewpid. Thankfully not a huge amount of damage done under the circs & the sausage will be the only banger on the trip. Well you wanted adventure. Hugs x.
I’m from Northern Ireland and let me tell you - the snow and ice is always worse in County Antrim and the roads can be impassable at times in winter. Lovely part of the country though and the people are genuine

I did feel for you guys. We've all done it, made the wrong decision. But hay, your safe, nobody's hurt, except poor Harry has a few bruises. 😢 Don't get blown away in the wind next 😂 Take care 👍🐸
Yep i must admit i had us down to be dragged out as really wedged but a drive into the bank gave me enough The mash was way too much lol Thanks for watching
lol it’s our January to March trip - so much content to share and takes time to produce …. It may be useful for some planning a winter trip or if you want to cool down 😂😂 Thanks for watching and commenting
Problem is not only are you 2wd, but that van is very heavy and especially with all the kit you've got. This makes it much more challenging for you on icy roads. But the damage isn't too bad, could definitely have been worse, and the most important thing having first of all got out safely is to learn from it. We're all on the learning journey, in all aspects of life. Anyone who calls you idiots for being in that position, just remember that they made many mistakes in their own lives as well. And undoubtedly they made mistakes that you wouldn't have. They are not high and mighty as they claim.
I call myself one first lol 😂 Yep I learned a lot for sure and I was surprised I got it out as thought it would have to be dragged straight as I was so wedged in Thanks for watching and commenting
I can say only two words. Winter Tyres After living in Belgium with their untreated roads, I will never use summer (Normal in UK) tyres again during winter. Now there are also some very good all weather tyres available. I know its too late just now, but worth considering for the future.
You got stuck…and you got out, yes a bit of collateral damage, but in reality, you didn’t panic and abandon hope…you persevered , with the tools you had to hand , and a bit of luck….everyday is a learning curve, some are just more of a curve than others …👍🇮🇲🤘😃
In the shop 😂 rare they have much snow but coupled with a council strike not gritting and me an idiot what could go wrong Thanks for watching and commenting
I'm way behind on watching. Hope you've bought some BFG tyres now!😁 I'd have been so stressed, and I'm sure our language would have been way worse. You did well to get out Stew and I'm sure as stressed as you both were, you both came across relatively calm considering. Don't blame you for going back to the pub 😂 Who could possibly blame you both after that stress.
Don’t worry about watching I know what it’s like I have no idea where time goes anymore I was fx?£&h swearing a lot I was convinced only way was to drag it straight but ramming it into the bank worked thankfully Hope you are both well - thanks for watching
@@getawaygeese it must have been awful. I felt stressed enough reversing down that single track dirt track. It's horrible. Hope the damage wasn't too costly. It definitely could have been worse.
This was filmed back in January - it takes a while to produce plus we have a backlog of other trips 😂😂 Think of it as a reminder of colder days 😂 and it maybe useful if anyone is in planning a winter trip this year Hope that makes sense - we fell in love with Ireland in all seasons after this trip
This was our winter trip in January the series is just come out following our last French trip - it takes time to produce a series so hopefully it will be useful for those planning a trip
We live on a sailing boat……thank god you two worry warts are not on a boat!! 20 knots of wind and you worry about being under trees. Thank god your not anchored on a bat in a storm. Traumatic day my ass! 😂😂
@@getawaygeese not about winning. Just chill, your not gonna to sink and drown. Wipe off an egg or fix a bumper is nothing. No one was ever in danger or anything.
We’re just telling our story as we go along and how it effects us - may not be as impressive as your world or your world as impressive as two astronauts stuck in the space station - nevertheless it’s our world at that time it’s all relative
Well there in lies a good question as when we set off a little south all was ok but it soon got worse and I should of turned around at that point obviously So I think your right why on earth did I even try 😩😩
@@getawaygeese I lived in Canada for 5 years where roads are cleared meticulously, I learnt how to managed adverse driving conditions but here in UK and Ireland it’s a different matter. Glad you were both safe if not a bit shaken. Could have been worse.
He was great and I insisted so he can have a pint on us - he was coming down the hill and helped hand and went back to get his quad - I just started to get Harry out when he got to me but watched me reverse back etc
Many people may say same or different, I have BF Goodrich tyres on my Peugeot boxer and have never looked back also I go to places where people can't get to say - not allowed to park here best thing the last 50 miles and I didn't need a spare, they are all terrain and when you call a place to fit will ask your van I had alloys fitted at the same time and look the dog bol:;"'ks mine are K02
Nice - we looked at those but only go down tracks at worst I guess but as you oh say the last bit of a place is often the best do good on you We went for all weather as you will see in a few videos time Thanks for watching and commenting

lol yes indeed …… thanks for watching
I can say only two words.
Winter Tyres
After living in Belgium with their untreated roads, I will never use summer (Normal in UK) tyres again during winter.
Now there are also some very good all weather tyres available.
I know its too late just now, but worth considering for the future.
You will see in a couple of episodes we put on some new boots
Thanks for watching
You got stuck…and you got out, yes a bit of collateral damage, but in reality, you didn’t panic and abandon hope…you persevered , with the tools you had to hand , and a bit of luck….everyday is a learning curve, some are just more of a curve than others …👍🇮🇲🤘😃
I am amazed I managed to turn it enough to get some traction as was sure it needed dragging out - to many lessons learned lol 😂
Thanks for watching
if you're living in a van, you need to change the tyres to winter tyres. You would not have had an issue if you had the right rubber.
Yes whilst we don’t live it highlighted the standard tyres were no good - you will see we upgraded in a few episodes time
I think it was all Jane's fault😂😂😂great vid👍
Super fan lol 😂 😂😂 I will let Jane now reply 😅
Thanks for watching
Great 😊
Thanks 😊
When was you thier in snow " bless yous
This was our winter trip January to March - we’re a bit behind on production of videos lol 😜
Snow chains don't take up much space , and Mud And Snow tyres are a necessity all year round
Yea we upgraded the tyres soon after and felt a lot more assured - will look at snow chains as I guess they could get you out the mess
Where are your snow chains?
In the shop 😂 rare they have much snow but coupled with a council strike not gritting and me an idiot what could go wrong
Thanks for watching and commenting
I'm way behind on watching. Hope you've bought some BFG tyres now!😁
I'd have been so stressed, and I'm sure our language would have been way worse. You did well to get out Stew and I'm sure as stressed as you both were, you both came across relatively calm considering. Don't blame you for going back to the pub 😂 Who could possibly blame you both after that stress.
Don’t worry about watching I know what it’s like I have no idea where time goes anymore
I was fx?£&h swearing a lot I was convinced only way was to drag it straight but ramming it into the bank worked thankfully
Hope you are both well - thanks for watching
@@getawaygeese it must have been awful. I felt stressed enough reversing down that single track dirt track. It's horrible. Hope the damage wasn't too costly. It definitely could have been worse.
whear are ye ?..as its saying 6 days age..well its not Ireland..as the weather is beautiful here ...good luck .in that aufull road's..🎉🎉🎉
This was filmed back in January - it takes a while to produce plus we have a backlog of other trips 😂😂
Think of it as a reminder of colder days 😂 and it maybe useful if anyone is in planning a winter trip this year
Hope that makes sense - we fell in love with Ireland in all seasons after this trip
Should have let some air out of tyres
Not thought of that one - thanks for the tip
You will see in a few episodes we swap the tyres out
Thanks for watching
Weres the gravy?
In my tea cup lol no room

There's no way you could do that road in the snow and ice. so dangerous.
Yes I soon realised that 😂 looked flat on my map 😩😩😩
We lived and learned ( a lot )
Thanks for watching and commenting
Holy Moly, Jane it's better looking you are getting. Please assure me the farmer didn't take the cash?
She will like that - he did but he was happy to help us and go back and get his quad
Thanks for watching and commenting
You need snow socks 🧦
Thanks for watching - we ended up with new boots in a couple of episodes
Why / how is this a one day old vid ?
This was our winter trip in January the series is just come out following our last French trip - it takes time to produce a series so hopefully it will be useful for those planning a trip
Done it again. Posted out comment on your post and not your video. 😵💫🐕🚙
I don’t mind two comments lol - will go find the other
Thanks
Don’t miss the sausages at the end as we need to know is that an abnormal amount of food 😂😂😂😂😂
@@getawaygeese I think after the day you had suffered four sausages each was what the doctor ordered 😋😋
👍🐸
Seems to me you are getting experience.
😜 your not wrong - you have to go through stuff to realise and learn sometimes I guess
Thanks for watching
Tyres tyres tyres
Indeed - it made us change them in a few episodes
Lucky a car didn't come down the hill and slide into your camper..
That was by biggest fear as it was so slippy once starting to skid you wouldn’t stop
Thanks for watching and commenting
What tyres did you have on the van at the time? Been looking to upgrade to an all season or winter tyre for this very reason.
Can’t remember but standard tyres from new - you will see in a couple of episodes we sorted them and went for an all season
Thanks for watching
We live on a sailing boat……thank god you two worry warts are not on a boat!! 20 knots of wind and you worry about being under trees. Thank god your not anchored on a bat in a storm. Traumatic day my ass! 😂😂
Well done you win - it’s all relative I guess
Thanks for watching and commenting
@@getawaygeese not about winning. Just chill, your not gonna to sink and drown. Wipe off an egg or fix a bumper is nothing. No one was ever in danger or anything.
We’re just telling our story as we go along and how it effects us - may not be as impressive as your world or your world as impressive as two astronauts stuck in the space station - nevertheless it’s our world at that time it’s all relative
Why on earth did you even try to drive in these conditions?
Well there in lies a good question as when we set off a little south all was ok but it soon got worse and I should of turned around at that point obviously
So I think your right why on earth did I even try 😩😩
@@getawaygeese I lived in Canada for 5 years where roads are cleared meticulously, I learnt how to managed adverse driving conditions but here in UK and Ireland it’s a different matter. Glad you were both safe if not a bit shaken. Could have been worse.
Yes it only needs to turn white and the adrenaline flows and everything stops to lol 😜 we’re not use to it
you telling a pilot how to fly only puts stuff in his head he can do without while in motion Harry
Id probably of told the pilot a mountain was approaching if im honest 🤗 jane
all good stuff:)@@getawaygeese

An Irish farmer would not take money unless he helped you?
He was great and I insisted so he can have a pint on us - he was coming down the hill and helped hand and went back to get his quad - I just started to get Harry out when he got to me but watched me reverse back etc
Many people may say same or different, I have BF Goodrich tyres on my Peugeot boxer and have never looked back also I go to places where people can't get to say - not allowed to park here best thing the last 50 miles and I didn't need a spare, they are all terrain and when you call a place to fit will ask your van I had alloys fitted at the same time and look the dog bol:;"'ks mine are K02
Nice - we looked at those but only go down tracks at worst I guess but as you oh say the last bit of a place is often the best do good on you
We went for all weather as you will see in a few videos time
Thanks for watching and commenting
Yes I know I’ve actually seen them, I replied then realised it was a long time ago, apologies as I’ve had couple of Friday night relaxers.😅
