The Double Oaked was my gateway into a wide bourbon world. It proved that distilling is art.
I can't believe how long it took me to get this bottle. I absolutely love this one when I'm in the mood for something that is in fact dessert in a glass. For me, I always get yellow cake batter or Betty Crocker frosting. 1910 is yummy too.
I love Double Oaked, my favorite Woodford. Great review, as always.

Solid review brother, love both of these. Woodford Double Oaked is one of my all time favorite sippers. Wish they would drop the price $5-$10 bucks but awesome whiskey never the less.
I agree. At that proof point I feel like it could be cheaper. Nevertheless a delicious easy sipper often overlooked for proof and price. Cheers.
Just picked it up for $39.99 at Total Wine in the LA/OC area. For that price I’m always in.
I agree, or bump it up to 100 proof. Delicious bourbon though, usually what I pour first.
This bourbon is SOOOOO GOOOOOOD! For how long I've drunk Woodford, I can't believe I never picked up this bottle until this year. Also, I like 1910 more than 1920 and was thinking that I need to compare these two as well.
I haven’t heard the word “nougat” since the old candy bar commercials stopped showing up everywhere. You made me want to look up what it meant, and here it is: Nougat is a family of confections made with sugar or honey, roasted nuts, whipped egg whites, and sometimes chopped candied fruit. The consistency of nougat is chewy, and it is used in a variety of candy bars and chocolates.

Such a different nose than any other bourbon I've had so far, especially on the first smell. Really enjoyed this one.

The is one of my favorite bourbons so far. I’m relatively new to bourbon over the last year or two. I toured Woodford reserve in August 2019, which was very cool. They also did a bourbon tasting at the end and that was the first time I tried this. They did a taste pairing with a chocolate bourbon ball and that totally sold me on the double oaked and still resonates in my memory over a year later. I like the bourbon even without the bourbon ball pairing though! 😆😁
Definitely a great choice, always one of these on my shelf. And yes, a great "Dessert bourbon"

I agree 100% what it lacks in proof and finish just makes up for in pure flavor. I was pleasantly surprised when I first tried this from a friend. Ended up buying a bottle soon after, and I like to always keep one in my inventory.
My first run into the double oaked was at Trader Joe's. On vacation from Alaska, visiting home (Kentucky) the day before my Woodford tour. Great pour!
Just picked up a bottle, it’s store branded on the label. Nougat is ground toasted almonds,sugar and egg whites that are whipped
I tried it, yesterday, and I loved it.
Great improvements on the production quality and lightning. Same great content as well. Love me some double Oaked. A buddy got me some from the military base near by for $27 👌🏼

Lots of marshmellow for me on this one. Agree with the light/low proof finish, no regrets about picking one of these up.
I love that all of the Woodford double oaked and Elijah Craig toasted barrel reviews I've seen just turn in to an Old Forester 1910 review, lol. Guess I'm gonna have to pick some up.

Recently was gifted with this double oaked , but boy was is horrible ! I have so many almost all of the leading ones including few higher end ones Bookers, Whistlepig, Rare Breed, Russels, local store handpicks, many many single barrels of Bourbon and Rye. this one tastes straight like a turpentine oil or shellac . Not sure if my bottle / batch is bad. I have now let it sit 3/4 bottle for about a month hoping it would change somehow. Don’t think will buy it ever again.
Haven't tried this expression yet i did like their bourbon and i really liked their Rye. I'll have to add it to the list
On the nose I get like a bananas fosters, cherries and chocolate, but on the taste I only get Carmel toffee dark fruit and slight chocolate but I love it
One of the best sipping whiskeys out there for less than a c note. This stuff is probably just as good as a $500 bottle of 27yr old redbreast....well, maybe not AS good but, as close as $60 will ever get you!
Woodford reserve double oak is a good one
It's 4-6 year finished for another year in those toasty barrels.
Great review as usual. The WR double oaked is great bourbon. Price tag is reasonable for product this good as well.
My Costco has it routinely for $32. It is my favorite everyday drinker

Interesting, I was considering this but then saw the "allocated" listing had the new Larceny BP for under $50 so grabbed that instead. Will have to come back to this Double!!

I call wood a beginner whiskey. Its also in all bars and is a good mixer as well. Double oak on the other hand is a favorite of my wife. We only buy double oak at home now. Regular wood she will only get at restaurants.

Man...you had me at 'Snickers'. Haven't actually ever tried any Woodford product *gasp!* and have yet to get a bottle or pour of 1910. Dessert in a glass sounds good, though.
Yes both desserty and rich. Snickers vs coffee, chocolate and banana. Lol
Both of these bourbons are fantastic.
Man, I must’ve gotten a bad bottle because I’m not getting anything that is dessert-like! The nose is almost straight corn and wet oak with just a dab of vanilla. No trace of chocolate or marshmallow. Taste is very medicinal/astringent with more of that fresh, wet oak and very, very drying on the tongue with barely any sweetness. Super bummed!☹️ 1920 is still my go-to for rich, dessert bourbon! Maybe I’ll have better luck with 1910, too!
@ItsStillRealToMe DamnIt I definitely get dark, syrupy fruit and dark chocolate in 1920 along with that overall richness. Can’t say I’ve ever pulled out banana…to each their own. I just got a bottle of EC Toasted Barrel and it has a very identifiable marshmallow vibe on the nose. Wonderful stuff! I still can’t believe how bad the bottle of Woodford DO was for me. I shared it with my bourbon drinking coworkers and they all agreed that it was very off-tasting.
Yes! SAme here. Picked up a bottle from Waitrose in the Uk. Scent was amazing but taste is super dry and quite medicinal, after open for a few days smell is much more nail polish remover than bourbon scented. Much regret.

I have been enjoying Woodford double oak for years but just recently found and loved the Old Forester 1910. Great comparison review, I have yet to actually do this, but I plan on it now!
Definitly an interesting comparison. Theres more coffee and bitter chocolate on the 1910 for me. Hint of banana too as it opens up.
@@TheMashandDrum what's interesting is I never considered the WF DO a sweet bourbon until I started exploring other bourbons. Really enjoy your channel, your genuine and informative insights have provided me with a lot more knowledge.

I've been thinking about getting this one for for months now, but always pass on woodford for other stuff. One of these days that will change and i'll buy this lol, your tasting notes sound really good but like you said in the beginning it's frequently passed on because of proof

Great review J! Tried this expression recently at my local whisky festival and really liked it. It’s about $70-75 CAD here, so I haven’t pulled the trigger. There are some many good bourbons at that price-point that pack a higher punch.
Wow. That's alot for the double oaked. I would get old Forester 1920 or rare breed at that price or cheaper
The Mash and Drum absolutely! We can’t get OF 1920 here, but I had one muled to me from the states. Love it. Rare Breed is only $58, so I think that’s much better value.
Finally tasted this for the first time, not sure i pegged anything as marshmallow. I'm on board with the snickers bar though... nougat and chocolate. Dessert, yes...but not sugar sweet, more of the fruit sweetness and chocolate with the oak. Nice pour.

I just tried it today. Sweet and spicy. I love it.
It's bottled at an even lower 43.2% ABV for the UK market, which is very unfortunate, and a strange decision in my opinion.

Have enjoyed the WR double oaked on many occasions. Yet to try the OF 1910 ... keep reaching out for the 1920 instead 😋.

I think the 1910 is similar…very good, but the Double Oaked is delicious. To me, Double Oaked tastes like a charred marshmallow.
I've had a few bottles of Woodford double Oak. The Barn" in Columbus Ohio serves the best I've ever tasted. It has a very creamy oily texture. I've heard they do their own barrel pick. No facts for that. What is your take on getting bourbon that has that extra creamy texture???
You want to find bourbons that are non-chill filtered. Will usually give you an oily texture. bourbons like Woodford Double Oaked with that extra barrel finish can get oily as well.
Well dammit... now I have to get THAT whiskey.
Is this similar too the Old Fo 1910. Their both Brown Foreman products. Which one do you prefer?
I prefer the Woodford Double Oaked. Not to say the 1910 is bad. But I have to be more in the mood for the 1910 while the Double Oaked I seem to universally go to more.
I really value your opinion. I used to be a scotch drinker, but have decided to move into the bourbon realm. I have found several whiskeys I enjoy. I am looking for a good sipping whiskey. Not sure if you can help, but I thought I would give a try here. I like Woodford reserve, Old Turkey 101, Knob Creek as my favorite. I've tried several popular Whiskeys, such as Buffalo Trace, Elisha Craig, Angels Envy (excellent, but too weak for me) and others. I prefer OT 101 and Knob Creek and Woodford. I like the Maple taste of Angels Envy, but it seems too tame or me at this point. I am looking for a Maple, Brown Sugar, Caramel, semi-sweet flavor and I am not sure where to turn. I can spend tons of money trying everything, but I feel I am closer to your taste buds if that makes sense, what would you recommend as a daily sipping Whiskey, given what I have written here.
I understand you get lots of comments, and understand if you are not able, time wise, to respond, but I would appreciate your recommendations... Thanks in advance for fielding such a demanding and subjective question.
BTW, were both drummers. I have been playing since I was three. Long story, but I just wanted to give a shout out to my fellow percussionists. Grin.
That's awesome that your a drummer! Always love hearing from fellow percussionists. You mentioned some great flavors and I think there are a couple you should try. You seem to like the higher proof stuff a bit so my next recommend for you would be Russells Reserve single barrel from wild turkey. Caramel, maple, cinnamon and some fruit and well. It's non chill filtered so you will experience some great flavors. After that give old Forester 1920 a try. Also if you like knob Creek you should try a Booker's. They are a little pricey but will give you the oak and brown sugar sweetness your looking for. Cheers!

Great information on the blending of the pot still spirit with OF column spirit. Always wondered how they could produce enough with that equipment for Woodford as there is lots of it everywhere. Do you know if they are doing the same thing at Old Forester putting some pot still spirit in the distillery row series whiskeys? Thanks for doing the side by side with the OF 1910 too as have been wondering about that. Isn't the woodford a dark toasted 2nd barrel and the Old forster a heavy char 2nd barrel kind of the opposite of each other? Cheers Jason
Not sure if it's an exact opposite. With the 1910 they are charring the barrel for almost a full minute. Woodford 2nd barrel is toasted than charred. I think the 1910 just has a more aggressive wood and char influence where the Double oaked is a bit more elegant.

This one gives me a bit of an apple cider vinegar nose, like when I make homemade BBQ sauce. It’s great.
Yes!!!! Thank you!!! I thought I was the only one and it was driving me crazy. Smokey Vinegary sweet bbq sauce is what I get from WR double oaked.

My local TW has the dbl oak for $55 and the dbl oak single barrel select for $65...same proof. Have you had the “select” version as well? If yes, what did you think about it?
Some of those single barrels can be really amazing. I always ask the store to see if they have an open bottle where you can either purchase a pour or a sample before you buy it to see if the barrel they chose is to your liking. I would do that before you pull the trigger.
The Mash and Drum good point on asking. The thing is whenever I see a bottle for $60+ I always think..would I rather this bottle or another 1920? Lol
@@adiliosamuels253 Well thats the other thing...As good as the Woodford Double Oaked is...for 10 bucks more you can get into the 1920 range. For that its all about what your profile is...If you want very sweet and lower proof then the Woodford is a delcious option...If you like the higher proof and Old Forester profile than 1920 is always a top option. Personally....for me to spend 55-60 on a Woodford pick...it really better be special...if not...1920 all day

@@TheMashandDrum I'm looking for a dominant Tobacco nose and finish, but I would like the recommendations to be of a more dry Tobacco rather than sweet Tobacco and the bonus would be an oily finish. So please recommend me some good whisky to try no matter if it's a blend, single malt, or a bourbon.
@@vetiwearerdaimyo1592 15 year old Knob Creek Store picks, Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend, Belle Meade Cognac finish bourbon and Sam Houston 14 Ive found have a great Tobacco note. Old Forester 1910 as well.

@@TheMashandDrum I've tried a taste from few others bottles too, to see if they were different. Nope, still bbq sauce lol. Smokey vinegar bbq sauce. I don't get any of the other notes people talk about like marshmallows or vanilla. It's not bad, just never what I expected it to taste like.
