To be really correct: Teutons were a germanic tribe in the roman times and they settled even quite in the north of germany/denmark. In the middle ages there was a "Teutonic Knight Order" which was settled in Northern Germany/Prussia and parts of Poland/Silesia. They led the "crusade" to the east. Eastern Europe for example Lithuanians, Novgorod (russia) and Poland. Originally it was founded in the Holy Land to protect pilgrims and take care for the wounded and sick people. :) But as mention down below in this game Teutons are "germans" or "holy roman empire of german nation". And i like the song! ;) Good day people!
Also it might be nice to note that the Teutonic Order has nothing to do with the tribe of the Teutons. "Teutonic Order" is a wrong italianized version of the real name of the order which is "Deutscher Orden", which actually just means "German Order". The italian word for Germans on the other side is "tedesci", which comes from the Teutons who fought against the Romans in 120 B.C. Funnily the term "teuton" and "deutsch" have the same roots though. Both come from the old germanic word "þeuðō", meaning "people", which in old german became "thiot". The adjective "thiutisk" , meaning "of the people" later became "diutisc" or "diutsch" and then finally "deutsch".
Damn... This deserves an extended version, this sounds pretty cool... I mean, a extended arrangement accord to this like for hearing it in "background" while playing, not just a simple civ theme that you hear before starting the real game.

teutonic enemies in campaigns are always giant pain in the ass. They are mostly well equiped and very resourceful, and you often portray some civ literally cannot do too much to their heavy infantry and calvary units like Cumans or Saracens
Not to mention their top-of-the-line defenses, with added free murder holes and garrissoned infantry firing arrows..yeah if it's Teutons on the other side, best believe that it will take some effort to break them.
Henry: "Ha, I'm now going to stab you in the back!" Me: (looks at his puny army, then compares to my gigantic fully upgraded army) Yeah, have fun with that dude.

(Cumans defeated...by system.)
AOE has done a really nice job here, this tune is quite similar to Palasteined which is one of the few well-known medieval German songs. The Indian theme music is very Indian too, and I think the theme for Persians and Saracens, and Tartars are also very accurate.
The closest you’ll get to fantasy dwarves in this game. Heavy fortifications and citadels, slow but unbreakable infantry or cavalry, access to guns, mediocre archers, powerful siege engines of war, and the farming bonus that really encourages massive civs. Plus the conversion resistance; a dwarf does not abandon their gods lightly. Build and build and build some more.
All thanks to the countries that caused ww1 which led to ww2, and after ww2... thanks to the countries that decided to start the pact that shared Prussia to Russia and Poland instead of Operation Unthinkable.

When the teutonic knight slowly approaches you
Feels like I'm getting buzzed at a renaissance festival.
Wow. I always found the Teuton theme kind of weak. And here you have the familiar tune as an intro to proper medieval instruments. Awesome!
