There are random scenarios you can do, if you just want a one off game. There would be no character progression, which is kind of half the point. But if you only intend to play once, it is possible to choose one of the random scenarios and a few character and just do it.
I needed to chime in about the awful artistic choices in the 2019 Core version. I don't understand why the creative team thought a fantasy-themed game should have tight facial closeups of all the characters - topped by a green swiggle, no less - instead of showing the full hero or monster in all its glory. (Oh, then top it off with muddy colour mixes). I got a used copy of ROTRL and I love how it plays and looks. When the inevitable NEXT version of this game is released I strongly hope Paizo have some editors that know what they're doing.
What a ridiculous opinion. The look of 2nd ed. is way, way better. The art and the layout. At least it isn't the same WOW cartoon crap as everything else.
I am looking into getting this new edition and was wondering if you can buy the old class or character decks to add to this edition. Are they compatible?
Yes. But they changed names of some mechanics, also blessings work a little bit different. But there is a conversion guide in the manual, and 90% of entire game is basically the same.
Nice. Thanks for the review

I wish this edition was released in France...
