Hi! I got my node about a month ago and have done everything wrong before I found this video. My node was rotting so scraped off all of the rot. I don't want to throw it away because the other side is fine and it finally has a leaf sprouting! So after the node dries I will put it in a container with moss. Hopefully it'll survive and give me a wonderful plant. Thank you so much for all of very informative videos, I'm a new fan!
Thanks for sharing. I hope it will survive, don't be bit yourself up, most important you have done everything you can and you learn be better plant person :)
Came here to make sure i was following my favorite plant ladies recommendations for my new babies....and low and behold IT WAS YOU, the voice is the same, Ive been watching your videos for over a year now, and to know my babies came from you make me so much more excited...*the mask made it hard to realize, without a mask i may have screamed in excitment as you walked up! THANK YOU
Came here to get advice for care of the Monstera Albo I bought today, and it turns out the first hit was the person I bought it from! So excited for my Albo.
Omg out of 10 cuttings so far, 1 has finally took root after 1 week. About 2mm of white root came out of the aerial root. I checked the pimple... and there is a raise bump where the white stem and the green stem is, so there is a higher chance of a variegata coming off this rooted one... fingers cross!! 1 rotted, as the stem cuttinc is the oldest part of the mother plant. 2 are turning yellow. I also did a monstera dubia cutting, and it started to root within 2 days. I'm so excited now. Wanna share the joy with you. Btw, I'm from singapore and its warm as hell throughout the year. My living room was 30 degrees Celsius today with 60 percent humidity.
Finally, SOMEONE mentions that a cutting may not grow roots first. Everybody talks about how "roots will grow! When the roots grow a, pot it up, then a leaf will grow!" Well, what if your plant grows the leaf first?! I didn't know this when I bought mine, so I became worried and confused when my node started growing the leaf first even though there was a leaf already! ..... I started messing with my cutting, but finally decided it might be alright because at least the cutting was doing *something* Another thing! Now that I see your nodes are putting out a first white leaf and a *second variegated leaf* I won't cut it off yet.... Thank you! Nobody talks about these things at all! I have changed my mindset on what is "right" when it comes to how the plant is growing...
I'm glad this help you :) I'm sure a lot of people have the same problems. I'm totally agree with you. Lots of people said cut the white off but in nature, no one cut the leaf of for plant... I think the plant know what it is doing, they know what it 'right' for them and monstera is a strong plants, they actually a lot easy to care than lots of my anthurium lol
Elvy, what a great video! You have a way of getting to the heart of the matter and clarifying the little details that we all wonder about and need to know but that often get overlooked in other's videos. Plus I like your easy going delivery. Now... if you can just share how I get a whole bunch of wet sticks like you to experiment on. ;-)
Thank you! Yours is the best video on growing albo from a wetstick! Could you do a short video on the parts of the wetstick with close ups. That was confusing to me when I first started growing a wetstick.
YAY!!! Thank you for making this video! I just got my "wet stick" in the mail last week. :) I put it in the sphagnum moss like your last video, and now I just STARE at it and wait. Haha. Next stop hopefully: Perlite! A question for you: I bought the heat mat, but I am worried it's making the container too hot. Is it normal to be very warm to touch? I moved my cutting to a plastic bag to rest on TOP of the container for now. I don't want to cook my cutting! Is it normal for heat mat to make the growing container very warm? You're the best Elvy. Thank you!
Its warm to touch and you definitely don't want to cook your cutting :) There temperature regulator you can brought but I also find you can grow the cutting without heat mat.
Hi there Thank you for such a wonderful video. We have a albo in studio and recently had a bit of root rot. So cute off the rot, still have a 6cm or so aerial root which is fine, and just some very fine roots off of this with one good root. I have cut off ends of node and sealed off bits in case just to check rot hadnt moved into node - luckily not…dipped in hydrogen peroxide , cinnamon and resealed the ends of nose with wax. It was in perlite orchid bark and potting before…now it’s gone straight to perlite like yours here in clear pots. I popped it in half way down with node slightly above the perlite but roots below (as was concerned about getting moisture on node) and mixed some 1/4 teaspoon of plant starter with water and put just maybe 5 small squirts around the pot and a bit in middle. But hardly put much water in there. Big question is how often should I put water in? And How much water should I have put in since repotting in perlite. I’m hesitant since rot, and how often do you top up? Would you continue feeding water mixed with plant starter? Or would it just be best to spritz the leaf and keep humidifier on 85%. Or both? How long do you keep the humidifier on it? I have plastic over the top of pot. Sorry for so many questions just been a bit stressful and still a beginner. This is our first albo and it has a beautiful leaf already just want to do the right thing by it where I can. If there is anything you would suggest additionally would really appreciate!! Thank you in advance and thank you for videos 🙏🙏
Hello. Thank you so much for this vide. I just bought a node monstera albo. And it has a root, but I don’t see any leaves. It started to get brown a little bit. Is it normal? I am nervous it gonna die. But it costs a lot of money.
I have a good node with a leaf and an aerial root. It’s been sitting in spaghnum moss for two weeks and nothing’s happening lol 😆 they take forever to grow roots.
I was propagate them during winter, it will be slightly different during summer. Start with pre moist perlite then, I will said when it feel light ( you can compare the dry perlite if you not sure what light mean) , add water a bit and let it absorb, add water again, you will have maybe less than 1cm water at the bottom. It take a while for perlite to absorb the water and you dont want to have really any water left at the bottom. I saw some other technique that work for other people (drainer hole, perlite and sphnum mix). You should join facebook group bc there's too many way to propagate monsters, you want to find the one you most comfortable with. What work for me or other may not work for you.
This is SO helpful! I just purchased a monstera Albo cutting with no Roots and a couple nodes and was trying to figure out what’s the best way to propagate. Will go purchase some perlite! But the ends of my cutting is black... can I ask you what does this mean? Is it rot? Should I cut it? 😩😩😩
Hello, great video. I have just bought a variegated albo that has one leaf, a little amount of roots and is starting to push out a bit and will produce new growth soon. My question is can I use sphagnum moss and dampen it with super thrive?
Thanks for the video! I have a question or two if you don’t mind. How often do you mist the sphagnum moss and how much do you mist it when you do? Or do you take it all out of the container and re-wet it and squeeze the excess water out again after a certain amount of time? Do you wet the sphagnum moss with water and superthrive, or just superthrive? How much water do you put in the perlite when you water it? Fill a third of the cup? Less? Thanks so much!!
It is depend on what type container you are using and the temperature in your environment, mine is in close container, I mist it once a week or longer depend on the moisture on top of the sphagnum. I spray and wet my moss with diluted superthrive water. Most of the time I just need to spray them, only need to re-wet it if the bottom too dry due to heat mat. With perlite, it less water, I never measure in cup lol, more on the feeling at your hands, you can check out my "lets talk about albo' video, I show how it should be look like, I'm very caution on propagate albo, mostly i add less water in the beginning and add more the next day if I see it not enough. I hope all this help, good luck!
Hi I have recently bought a Monstera albo node cutting with a growth point and you seem to have tons of success with albo’s. Therefore I was wondering if you have any tips?
Thank you very much, you said one should not burry the stem. I have a stem with a leaf and below the stem there is a aerial root about 6 cm. So i would have to bury the root to propagate it right? :) Thank you :)
if you have the leaf yes, you can bury it. The reason I don't bury the node cutting is bc I can't tell which is the up direction. For leaf cutting bury the stem up to below the leaf start.
I have a heat mat set around 74 to 75° and then it is in a grow container with plastic lid over it and I am maintaining in the 80 some percent for humidity. Monstera album stick with one aerial root. Outer portion of aerial root had rotted but I took that off and there is an inner portion that's hard. I also put Kiki paste around a bump node that I have
I water form the side of the pot so it go directly down to the pot, then the perlite will slowly absorb the water up. If I see excess water after mayne 30 mins, I'll dump out the extral. I try to do slow amount each time for multiple time so not over water it
Thank you for sharing your tips re PROPAGATING ! Recently bought an albo and would also like to propagate it since the main stem/branch has so many nodes, like 12. But my fear always holds me back, my question is, how long do I have to wait for it to know that it's gonna root? Do I have to give it at least 6 weeks before giving up? And what type of wax do u use to seal off the ends of the stem? Ive done some research but of course it's overwhelming with the info overload out there . Also, how do I really avoid browning? They say it's normal with an albo but of course I want to avoid it as much as possible since so many people out there can keep their albos in perfect condition. Does albo need a medium or bright indirect light? If I were to put it inside my room, which type of grow lights would be best to use? Thank u so much madam! Your tips would be truly appreciated.
For node cutting it usually grow leaf first before grow root. I’ll say give it at least 6 months not 6 weeks lol. They are slow grower. I’ll say bright indirect light. If you can measure the light it will be from 500-1000 foot candles grow light.
How about madam for sealing off the ends of the stem? Which type of wax do you use to seal them off to avoid root rot? I'll keep that in mind, 6 MONTHS NOT 6 WEEKS. 😂🤣
Good day. I've been watching your propagation technique in Monstera albo. I'm new to this kind of plants. I have a question, do i need to punch holes in the container for drainage when propagating or no? Thank you in advance.
Hey Elvy! Don't know if you'll see this but I was wondering if there was a certain seller or suggested sellers to buy nodes from, please get back to me if possible!
HI again! I received my node in the mail the other day. Looks good, large and has a long aerial root. I have it in slightly damp moss, etc. My biggest question is sunlight. I am in FL, I have a window that gets an hour or two of sun but it isn't very strong because I have a tree in the yard that blocks the intensity, although it is direct on the plants in the window. My Phalaenopsis orchids do well there so that means they aren't getting burned. Can I put the node in direct sun for an hour or two our just out of the way where it is still bright? So much confusion out there and yours look so healthy and you've had success. I do not have a heat mat, but it is very hot here lately, temp is about 70F. And, you recommend keiki paste, where and when do you put it on the node? I have ordered some for my orchids already! Thank you in advance!
Hi, congratulation on getting this new experiment :) All my node do not get direct sun light, it is just my personal torrent lol. I do think they are okey with morning sun light that not strong. You can try it if you think it is okey and keep eyes on it everyday :) For the keiki paset, you put it on the "eye" where you see the bump on the node. That were the new leaf will come out. I did experiment on myself, it has 50/50 success rate with the paste for speeding up the grow. I wouldn't said I recommend it, but if you have it then can try.
Hi can I put my albo wet stick directly on the perlite if it has 3 short aerial roots on it? One is maybe 2.5 in and the other 2 are about 1.5 to 2in is that ok and if so can I lay the node right on top and just stick the aerial roots in the perlite
Hi Elvy. Thank you for your informative videos. May I please know if it it possible to put the node in the suitcase for a 24 hour plane travel? How do I pack it?
Trying to grow a monstera albo node (no aerial root) but there is a bumb forming at the node. I've been keeping it on top of sphagnum moss. It's a bit woody. It has gone pale. Too much light? I'm worried. No rot...no soft spots but the green bits are yellowish.
Hi Elvy can you please gime an advise I just bought a albo cutting! It did had a small root coming but I had it in water but it got soo soft! I’m afraid that it goes bad! U think is better to put it I perlite?
Hi, I already have an albo plant 😊 but I want to ask about pothos. I saved a pothos (got it super cheap). It was very tangled up, so I carefully untangled and then realized that it had a few leaves, then a lot of stem with no leaves, and then nice leafy vines again. So I cut before the leafless stem, repotted the root system with the short vines in good aroid soil, cut up the whole stem in lots of pieces (about 70 lol) and put the vines in water to root. Now I have the little stem cutting in moss boxes, but since the plant didn’t look super healthy when I got it Im not sure if it will grow. What do you think? Can even slightly unhealthy cuttings grow? I don’t really care just an experiment for me, but it would be nice to to have 70 baby pothos 😅
This is so great for us newbies! I’ve read some people put wax on the ends of their nodes to help prevent rot, do you suggest doing this or have ever done it?
I did some like it initial but it fell off eventually, the most important is not the wax, it is the cut has dry off completely. Usually I left it in the air 6-8 hrs or overnight
I have a rooted albo node should I move it from the moss to perlite? And I have a Thai node that only has an arial root but is not doing too well. Should that stay in moss? Also, how often should you open the container for the moss ?
Thank you for the information. I do have a node cutting from late March that hasnt done a thing except for the aerial root rotting. It started out in sphag/dirt mixture in a zip loc bag, then to coco coir/rescue mix from NOOT, & now Im trying to progate in leca in my fish tank, vertically. Sooo.....I might try this method making sure the node in horizontal.
yah some of the node just take a lot longer, one more will be a quick grower usually 2-3 months range. Some can go up to 6 months before see anything really happen. I have some still doing nothing for 4 months :(
Hi! This video was very helpful! I have chopped my monstera due to it being very leggy and am trying to propagate the nodes. Some are doing well but others have gotten a small but if mold starting to grow on them. What can I do about this?
Thanks for the in-depth tutorial, Elvy! My wet sticks are coming in tomorrow, so this was all really helpful! :) Just want to ask if Keiki paste is necessary? If I don't use it - does it mean there less chance of growth?
Everyone suggests to put a saucer of water under the perlite, and the perlite will soak up what it needs. Do you suggest to do this? Or do you just wet the perlite once?
I think it will depend on your environment. I know some have success with it. I don't do that because it was cooler season when I propagate theses babies and I'm just too afraid of rot lol. I think it could work but will suggest add water slowly or check it more often when you do it.
Hi Elvy! I just got my first albo! It’s a mid cutting with one leaf. I have it in a sphagnum moss right now and I plan on repotting it to a more long term medium. I was wondering if you have any suggestion on which medium I should do, or should I say which one do you use for your own albos 😊? And if it’s possible, can I send you a picture of my plant and I have some questions on it since I really don’t want to kill it! 😬 thank you!!
Hi Nea, I have some pot in perlite mix some pot in soil. I think it is really a personal choice, I just experiment which one will grow better and easier to maintain. Any medium will work you just need to watch out on watering. Get a clear plastic container so you can see when the soil is really dry out. If this is your first plant, I'll suggest you to pot it in soil, put it in well drain soil mix 50% orchid mix (get the one with charcoal) 35% cactus mix 10% perlite 5% worm casting, You can change the ratio as you like, it is depending on your enviroment, watering habit and type of pot you use.
We’ve had our albo leaf propagating in water for a month. Not much growth other than what looks like a second leaf coming? Can I switch to perlite or moss at this point since it seems to be stalled?
Thanks for the video! I've got my first albo cutting and kept it in coco coir until my sphagnum moss came in the mail. Unfortunately the rot started to go up the stem. Now the "casing" of the air root rotted of also, so i scrape the black bit if and cut the ends. I worry that the rotted air root damaged the node because it was directly under the leaf and it left an indentation in the stem. What to do in that case? I don't know if i should put in sphagnum or wait and let it air dry for a while...
When it rot, I did air dry for about a day or two and keep it in dryer side medium. It will slow down the process but it seem help. But sometime the node just too stress and wont make it so it is really depend on your node. Hope they make it
Just want to ask. Do you keep your albo node in a container completely sealed? I have purchased a albo node from someone who put it in a tupperware container with spag moss. She told me to never open it till I see root or leaf. Is that normal? I thought it was kind of weird. Also do you find more success in moss or perlite?
mine is almost seal up and I open it once a day to let fresh air in. The seal container help to create high humidity but you still want to fresh out the air to prevent mold and fungus
Hi! Thanks for this informative video. I recently had a beautiful node which put out a first leaf, but unfortunately the growth did not continue and the leaf eventually turned yellow and died. At that point the node was rotted. I am not sure exactly what I did wrong. It’s a possibility that I had the conditions too damp but I wanted to get your thoughts. Thanks!
Thank you for the informative video! I have a cutting that started rotting and I basically had to remove the whole aerial root. If I heard you correctly in your video you mention that it is okay but I've heard otherwise that my node is spent and won't ever make new roots. Thoughts?
That's not true, I have a lot that not aerial root and able to regrow new root from the stems. Aeria root is a supplement so it grow faster. Usually they grow leaf first without root.
I got a one node cutting with aerial root, but one end of the node as well as the root tip was slowly rotting. I’m concerned the humidity is too high, but when lessened, it seems like the entire node is slowly drying up. Do you suggest sphagnum moss would be the best route like your box that had some root rot? Thanks so much! This has been so helpful!
Thanks for sharing! I bought an albo stem cutting with a full size leaf about a year ago, and it came with lots of roots in sphagnum moss already. I transitioned it to clay balls for about 6-8 months now, and the root system is growing strong. However, there hasn't been a new leaf at all 😢😢😢 Is there a way to promote new leaf growth? Thanks!
Did you check your ph level on or add ph balance water? your set up is in semihydro? I found some of my plant do not grow in semi hydro after a while bc I wasn't flush out the salt and my ph is way off. Maybe that is the case... you can try switch to soil this year just to do sth different see if it will help..
Elvy Kiung Thanks so much for your reply ❤️ Yeah it's in semi hydro. I usually adjust the solution to around ph5.8-6.0 before I add it to the reservoir. But I just checked the pot, the pH is at 7.2! The root is growing like crazy tho, just no new leaves.... Haha Maybe I should flush it more!
@@gagagc yah, It really depend on which nutrition solution you are using, I just lean this recently too :) I switch to sth organic right now see if there any different, will definitely do update on my semi hydro plant. I don't like the general hydroponic solution anymore lol, the ph change so much in just one day.
Elvy Kiung I am in Australia so I use an Australian brand called Growth Technology. I have a few other aroids and begonia in semi hydro and they are all thriving. But I guess it also depends on the plant too. I refreshed the solution for my Albo, and adjusted it to ph5.9 yesterday. I just had a check and it already went up to ph6.8.... I might transfer it to soil to see whether it’d change things up :-) Thanks again for all you advice 😊😊
Hi, I noticed that one of the wet sticks in the containers at 9:38 looked kind of dry. What are your thoughts on cuttings that are like that? Can they still be successful in leaf growth? I have one that looks similar and I'm worried nothing will form. Thank you!
I just got my first node an the aerial root had rot. I had to cut a lot of but didnt want to cut all of it because it was getting close to the node... it still looks a little brown but should I give it another cut or just stick it in sphagnum and high humidity and hole it grow so more roots
Help! I've had a node in moss since the end of July. It is doing NOTHING. There is no rot, thank goodness but it just sits there day after day and staring does not work!LOL I spray with SuperThrive and it's moist and I have it near a window where it gets bright light but not a lot of light. Any suggestions? I know they take a while but i's almost three months now. Thank you ahead of time!!
@@Elvykiung Thanks, that does help. I had no idea they could take so long LOL I've got it in a window with morning sun and I did put some paste on it so we'll see!
Hi Elvy! Thank you for sharing this. It is really helpful for beginners, specially growing on a node. I just wanted to know, if I have to place it like that one on a plastic cup with perlite, how much water should I put? I know you mentioned watering it at least every 2 weeks to prevent rotting or overwatered. I bought 2 stems with 1 node each and thinking of doing this method. It looks likely a success for growing. Thanks! Lorie
I just cut up my monstera plant. I have several nodes with actual roots growing from them, can they grow leaves if I cut them and they already had a well-established root system.?
Hi there, I just purchased my 1st node and I would like to know which one out of the perlite and sphagnum moss would you recommend me using? I have both, have you notice rot develop more with the sphagnum? And also, did you state that you did not water the medium right away? Thanks
Hi, I'll say it both work but my personal choice is perlite :) I dam the medium first and go for dryer side, give it over 90% humidity, basically the plant were feed with moisture in the air.
Elvy Kiung thank you so much for time and videos! They are super helpful, esp for a newbie like myself 😊 how long does it usually take to see physical progress and change in your nodes?
Also, do you have a temp gauge where you know how warm your environment is? I use a reptile heat cable and have placed my node in a Large Plastic cup inside a large sterilite container and keep it closed. It can get about 100°F some days, but never gets higher than 65% humidity no mater how hard I try
I have a cutting that had root rot so I cut off the rotten parts now there's only the node with one leaf left :( The leaf is starting to turn yellow, should I just cut the leaf off?
Hi Elvy! Thank you so much for this video! I have a cutting with one leaf but the node is partially a little bit dark because I damaged it accidentally with a knife when cutting a rotted root of 😭😭😭 do you think it can grow a leaf with the damage? Thank you in advance!
Hi Elvy, thank you for the video! It's the most helpful one I've come across! I was hoping to get some advice from you. My albo monstera was attacked by thrips, so I had to take everything out, treat it, and then sprayed it down. Then when I repot it, it had root rot (entire plant is wilting and the leaves are limp). I cut off all the rot like you suggested, then I put rooting powder on the ends to kill the bacteria. My albo is about 1.5 feet in length (a vine). Now, I have no roots and a soft plant. A lot of the leaves are yellowing, and I am desperate to save it. Do you have any advice on how I can save it? Thank you so much in advance!!
I also wanted to add that I am terrified of chopping it up. Do you suggest that I do this? I'm not sure what to do at this point and hope it doesn't die. Thank you!
You may want to chop it of. It will have better chance to safe them at this point. Try to chop 2 leafs for top cutting and node at least over 2-3” apart. Make sure you know where the grow point is. Spray with hydrogen peroxide then cut dry for about 3-4hrs. Propagate either sphagnum or perlite. Make sure your mediums just moist not wet. At this point you don’t want introduce too much moist bc it will promote rot. Check out Facebook group, there’s a lot people have more experience then me dealing with rot 😓 I wish I know how to stop rot 😭
Thank you so much for your video! I sadly bought a cutting that originally had areal roots but all the areal roots were rotted so I had to cut them all off :( There is an axillary bud and it kind of looks like it had a bit where an areal root might be coming out of. It was sent in sphagnum moss, but do you have any suggestions on how I may be able to save it? I don’t have a green house or a humidifier. I did buy a heat mat that’s coming tomorrow. I also bought rooting powder as thought that may work but I don’t know? Any suggestion would be appreciated :) Thank you again!
Hi Elvy. I just purchased three nodes and have them in a glass jar one in moss and other in perlite. Did you say ok to put next to window with morning light? Or is it best next to window with heating pad? I get morning sun and a bit of afternoon sun, Will this be too much sun? I love your videos.
Few hrs morning sun could be okey but not too much. Indirect blight light will be good enough. Depends on your location, summer you don’t need heat mat. My propagation was happened during winter/spring. It is be different from you since the weather and temperatures of sun will be different too.
I'm sure they though you a lot on propagation too so not waste of money :) Try some thing less expensive build your confident and soon you will be okey :)
Then it’s possibly ready, some are 2”-3” long. It’s flat in a bowl w/ peralite, under lights in propagation box. I thought I was watching for a green growth off of roots.?
Not very much, similar as you will propagate in sphagnum, you can check my other videos How to propagate Monstera Albo, it is hard to tell how much so I show it in that video :)
Boey Shee Ian I don’t soak the perlite bc it will be way to wet for plant. I do wet the perlite first to mix the water properly. I have video before this talk about monstera in general n propagation. Check that out 😉
Thank you for this video!! You may have mentioned it and I missed it. But do you keep your nodes under a grow light? If so how bright do you keep the lights?
Yes. I do keep it under grow light. Not very bright. If you have light measure it will be around 300-400 foot candle. Next to window is good enough amount of light.
Hi! Thank you for this video, it is exactly what I needed. I have a question though. Do you start with sphagnum moss and then switch it to perlite? Or do both do the same thing?
What do you wet the perlite with? I have a very pricey plant with root rot and maybe node rot. I really want to save it. What would you recommend? It’s a philodendron

Came here to get advice for care of the Monstera Albo I bought today, and it turns out the first hit was the person I bought it from! So excited for my Albo.
You happen to be one of the most detailed youtuber on monstera propagation. Infectious too coz I wanna cut all of mine now to propagate.
Lol, it is spring now, good time to do propagation :)
Is it normal for the cuttings that I laid in sphagnum to slowly turn yellow on 1 side? :(
Omg out of 10 cuttings so far, 1 has finally took root after 1 week.
When the roots grow a, pot it up, then a leaf will grow!"
Well, what if your plant grows the leaf first?! I didn't know this when I bought mine, so I became worried and confused when my node started growing the leaf first even though there was a leaf already! ..... I started messing with my cutting, but finally decided it might be alright because at least the cutting was doing *something*
Another thing!
Really well explained. You answered all my questions beautifully. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for this video! I wish I had found this when I'd bought my first node.
Glad it was helpful!
I found your video extremely helpful - thank you for walking through each step in such detail!
Glad it was helpful!
I love this video! The most helpful video I've seen so far!
Thank you 😊
Elvy, what a great video! You have a way of getting to the heart of the matter and clarifying the little details that we all wonder about and need to know but that often get overlooked in other's videos. Plus I like your easy going delivery. Now... if you can just share how I get a whole bunch of wet sticks like you to experiment on. ;-)
Hey ELVY I LOVE YOUR VIDEO ❤😊😊😊
Kamusta! My mom & I love watching your videos and you have been extremely helpful and informative.
Awesome! Thank you you both for watching!
this is such a helpful detail-oriented video!! :) Thank you!
I'm glad it help :)
Thank you! Yours is the best video on growing albo from a wetstick! Could you do a short video on the parts of the wetstick with close ups. That was confusing to me when I first started growing a wetstick.
Thanks so much for all that information! Very helpful.
Thank you!
Its warm to touch and you definitely don't want to cook your cutting :) There temperature regulator you can brought but I also find you can grow the cutting without heat mat.
how is your plant doing now?
i just got a wet stick today too and I've been staring at it for the last hour LOL
New subscriber! I just got an albo and this was extremely helpful. Thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi there
Thank you for such a wonderful video.
Thank you in advance and thank you for videos 🙏🙏
only one time and since it is close set up, I dont add water for at least a month when the perlite feel dry.I keep humidity over 95%
Hello. Thank you so much for this vide. I just bought a node monstera albo. And it has a root, but I don’t see any leaves. It started to get brown a little bit. Is it normal? I am nervous it gonna die. But it costs a lot of money.
I have a good node with a leaf and an aerial root. It’s been sitting in spaghnum moss for two weeks and nothing’s happening lol 😆 they take forever to grow roots.
yes they are :)
any update? how is your node doing?
How do I know how wet the perlite should be? Should I wet it once since then not again for almost 3 weeks? How should it feel
its depend on how much black or if it soft or if it spread. If it dry, just leaf it alone
Hi Elvy. Does cutting the stem help activate nodes? I’m propagating a stick with 3 nodes. No roots. I’ve seen ppl make half cuts too.
Thanks for sharing. Very informative. ❤
I also put Kiki paste around a bump node that I have
Thank you for the info! Can you show how you water your perlite before placing the node? And how you water after the node is there?
I water form the side of the pot so it go directly down to the pot, then the perlite will slowly absorb the water up. If I see excess water after mayne 30 mins, I'll dump out the extral. I try to do slow amount each time for multiple time so not over water it
Thank you for your wonderful and thorough tips! Do you open your container to let fresh air in everyday?
Yes I do 😊
Hi, very nice video, i m also fan of perlite, only a question, why do you put kidney beans in the perlite? Thank you,
That’s leca clay ball. I mix them with my perlite box hard to take it away now 😂
Thank you for sharing your tips re PROPAGATING !
I believe both will work, I don't do it that way it is just fit me but I do see people punch holes and have success growing it that way
@@Elvykiung Thanks so much!
Thank you for making this video!!
thank you for watching :)
Hi can I put my albo wet stick directly on the perlite if it has 3 short aerial roots on it? One is maybe 2.5 in and the other 2 are about 1.5 to 2in is that ok and if so can I lay the node right on top and just stick the aerial roots in the perlite
Hi, I was wondering what you think about propagating a leaf cutting in leca?
It totally work! I did my first albo in leca. Make sure the water level is not too high, may be about 1" height will be enough :)
So informative! do you just spray the perlite or actually put water into the container when propagating a wetstick?
Spray is easier for me
Hi Elvy. Thank you for your informative videos.
May I please know if it it possible to put the node in the suitcase for a 24 hour plane travel? How do I pack it?
Thank you so much for the well-spoken information.
Trying to grow a monstera albo node (no aerial root) but there is a bumb forming at the node. I've been keeping it on top of sphagnum moss. It's a bit woody. It has gone pale. Too much light? I'm worried. No rot...no soft spots but the green bits are yellowish.
not sure what pale mean lol
Hi Elvy can you please gime an advise I just bought a albo cutting! It did had a small root coming but I had it in water but it got soo soft! I’m afraid that it goes bad! U think is better to put it I perlite?
you have to care the rot first if it rot, perlite will still cause rot if too much water or there's bacteria
Their looking all so good! Maybe oneday something will sprout from mine too. x
They will :)
Yes I think some will still make it some won’t. It’s good for practice confidence on propagation 😊
I open my container everyday sometimes every other day for about 1-2 mins. If perlite not working for you, you can always change to sphagnum.
@@Elvykiung thanks !
I’ve got a root coming in !!!!!
At what point would you put it into soil? Would you wait until it has a lot of roots? Sorry if you mentioned that and I missed it.
When the root is 3-4' long :)
Thanks for the in-depth tutorial, Elvy! My wet sticks are coming in tomorrow, so this was all really helpful! :) Just want to ask if Keiki paste is necessary? If I don't use it - does it mean there less chance of growth?
no, I don't think it is necessary, they still will grow. I do experiment, the keiki, it is only 50/50 chance to help grow faster.
@@Elvykiung Thank you! :)
Hey @love New how did it go ? did you decide your method ? I just got mine yesterday..
We’ve had our albo leaf propagating in water for a month. Not much growth other than what looks like a second leaf coming? Can I switch to perlite or moss at this point since it seems to be stalled?
Your plastic pots do they have, holel in the pot below? And at the top how and where do you put the containers? With plastic on top?
there's no holes in my pot and I pot it in my terrarium :)
Hope they make it
Mine got black around the part it looked like it was going to push out but it’s not soft like rot is it rot ? I push and it’s hard like the plant
it may be still okey just keep close eyes on it
Good job! Excellent video!
thank you!
This has been so helpful!
yah when battle with rot it is the balance with either rot or dry out lol. I prefer perlite more but it still depend on you...
Thank you!
It depends, when the node super stubborn to grow I add keiki paste to help
Some node just take very long time to do anything, I wish I know the magic, some of mine do nothing over 6 months and counting
Thanks! Lorie
That's great! It is always very fun to explore new propagation method :) now you can do anthurium node propagation lol
Is it possible to propagate a leafless node that has aerial root in water.?
as long as there node, they can be propagate
So when do you go from moss to perlite? I just bought a albo node with roots. Which do you recommend
both work for me, it is totally up to you :)
I just cut up my monstera plant. I have several nodes with actual roots growing from them, can they grow leaves if I cut them and they already had a well-established root system.?
yes! it will grow faster compare one that do not have root
I just got a 1 leaf middle cutting albo.. the Ariel root it long and to the side. It is rigid. Can I trim it?
Can you share where do you buy them for? Or do you sell them? I am looking for one but haven’t found them yet
Yes I do sell them but in limited quantities. Working on website. Check on my ig elvyplants will post link there
Hi Elvy! Thank you so much for this video! I have a cutting with one leaf but the node is partially a little bit dark because I damaged it accidentally with a knife when cutting a rotted root of 😭😭😭 do you think it can grow a leaf with the damage? Thank you in advance!
If your grow bud still there it should be fine 😊
I hope so, thank you 😊
Hi Elvy, thank you for the video!
Do your container/pot with perlite have drainage holes?
Just ordered an albo. I’m terrified!
It okey lol just make sure you got a healthy cutting or node to start with so less stress that way
Thank you so much for your video!
I sadly bought a cutting that originally had areal roots but all the areal roots were rotted so I had to cut them all off :(
There is an axillary bud and it kind of looks like it had a bit where an areal root might be coming out of. It was sent in sphagnum moss, but do you have any suggestions on how I may be able to save it?
I don’t have a green house or a humidifier. I did buy a heat mat that’s coming tomorrow.
I also bought rooting powder as thought that may work but I don’t know?
Any suggestion would be appreciated :)
Thank you again!
Thank you soooo much. Wish me luck with my baby nodes. Can’t wait to see more or your updates. I just became your subscriber. 💕
Good luck. Keep it moist but not wet
One more thing. Do you use super thrive while the node does not have roots or leaves yet? Thank you again 🤩
How many times should I water?
Love the video great tips
Thanks for watching!
@@Elvykiung thank you for responding I'm glad to be alive the same time your alive. I hope you have a blessed day
My node has come hard and wood like is that how they start,I’ve put it in my propagation perlite box
My albo monstera wet stick itstarted growing then it stopped at about 1inch and has not grown at all for at least 3 or 4 weeks idk what happened
i killed four node and waited lots of money, I'm afraid to buy node again, If was rooted like the one you have I wont mind!
I'm sure they though you a lot on propagation too so not waste of money :) Try some thing less expensive build your confident and soon you will be okey :)
I just bought an albo wet stick with roots.! how do I know when to plant this in soil?
when the root 2-3" long you can plant it directly in soil
Then it’s possibly ready, some are 2”-3” long.
It’s flat in a bowl w/ peralite, under lights in propagation box. I thought I was watching for a green growth off of roots.?
And about 80% of my roots just fell off ! I planted it anyway it has one long root & the aerial roots and a prayer or 2 or 10...
Do i need to add water on the perlite before I put plant on it... I want to propagate mo monstera albo to perlite
I do moist the perlite before I plant the plant so that I know the initial moisture is what I want.
After placing albo cuttings in perlite. How much should I water the perlite?
Not very much, similar as you will propagate in sphagnum, you can check my other videos How to propagate Monstera Albo, it is hard to tell how much so I show it in that video :)
Will Leca work the same as perlite?
Do you water/soak the perlite first? Before any monstera albo propagation?
Boey Shee Ian I don’t soak the perlite bc it will be way to wet for plant. I do wet the perlite first to mix the water properly. I have video before this talk about monstera in general n propagation. Check that out 😉
@@Elvykiung Ya have to look back.. Have you tried pure coco chips? Iam see Thailand grower mainly use coco chips for all aeroids.
Boey Shee Ian no I haven’t. I think they are more expensive?? Perlite is reusable
@@Elvykiung photos.app.goo.gl/xBZ4phporW32ViNB8 In Malaysia its around 6 to 7 USD for 5KG. Exo Terra Coco Husk is one of it. Tq
Do you keep light on the node 24/7 before it has roots?
No. 14hrs.
@@Elvykiung What type of lights are you using?
Can you use a Rubbermaid container to start your nodes in moss?
any container will work, make sure the light able to get in :)
How many weeks before it will shoot a new leaf?
it usually about 2-3 months!
My node growth has some blackening… what might that be from
Great video! Learned a lot.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks
Can you propagate directly into soil?
yes you can! I did see some people do that. It depend on your environment :)
Do you sell any cuttings?
yes check out my etsy store on the link on the description
Hi! Thank you for this video, it is exactly what I needed. I have a question though. Do you start with sphagnum moss and then switch it to perlite? Or do both do the same thing?
They both are the same thing. They both will work, it's depend on which one you are more comfortable for propagation
Elvy Kiung hello there! I love your video with so much info :) i have heard that there is a higher chance for root rotting when using moss?
What do you wet the perlite with? I have a very pricey plant with root rot and maybe node rot. I really want to save it. What would you recommend? It’s a philodendron
How much super super thrive do u put in the moss
mix in 1ml concentrated superthrive with 1 gal of water, spray the moss only :)
Do u use a heat pad underneath your box?
How many hours a day should you leave the heat pad on?? The whole dat
@@coreyparsons151 it was 24hrs but if you live in warmer climate, heat mat is optional
