When I heard "At The Tipton" start I thought no, that can't be what they're doing... and when in fact I discovered it WAS what they were doing, I stood up and started clapping in front of my computer. Michigans's theatre department crushes it every year, but bravo to whoever decided to include a reference to suite life of Zack and Cody!
Every year, I LOVE seeing a talented mass of people who, one-by-one, reveal what makes each of them unique, distinct, and special. This isn't just a display of pure talent. It's the result of an incredible, comprehensive education that follows Brent Wagner's motto: "You can't move forward if you're looking side to side.” Massive congrats, MT '24! Go Blue!
In 2008, I was a high school junior starting to decide if I was gonna pursue theatre in college (and theoretically professionally one day). I remember it was also at this time in my life where I saw one of these senior entrances, all those years ago- so every year I’m thrilled when they come out. Been following for YEARS. Today, I have the absolute PRIVILEGE to work with these incredible students as a new faculty member. Little young me never could have dreamed I’d be teaching at a place like this. Congrats MT 24 y’all are truly the BEST 💙💛💙💛 teaching y’all is a dream come true!
what are your tips into getting into a university such as yours? I've been doing a lot of community theater as a year 12 and taking up leadership roles in music teams. Do these help our apps? Thanks in advance!
I’ve been watching these since middle school, and now I’m a senior who’ll hopefully will get to audition for this program. Crazy how time flies. This was a fabulous senior entrance! Congratulations to the seniors and freshman.
I'm Canadian, 10 years out of university, and can't sing and dance to save my life, but watching Senior Entrance every year since 2018 makes me hype to be a UMich MT! ETA: It's fun to hear the jokes and references that get repeated year to year, like "zip your jeans" and hitting the 7/11 in Kerrytown. Makes it feel like I go here even though I don't always get it. Also love that it's a tradition for the "department chair" song to be a BIV arrangement!
As a prof singer (studied voice) that tried to get into MT (never got a foot into the door, not for a lack of trying or skill) - pretty bitter about the toxicity, the poor pay, the unfairness, the medieval hierarchies and the sheer lack of chances regarding the business...seeing these fresh, talented and hopeful young people makes me regain a bit of the hope I harbored when I was younger and thought I might someday "make it" (even if that meant a small ensemble position in a flop). Take care of your souls peeps - it brutal out there. Hold on to your love of theatre, it's easy to lose it.
I've been watching these since high school and it always felt so far away, but every year since I've started college, hundreds of miles away from UMich, more and more faces I know are showing up in that audience. This year... when I tell you this hit me so hard... These are the people I was messaging and asking questions when I was going through the audition process (so maybe I'm a bit biased in saying this is my new favorite entrance, sue me) and now they're graduating. And sitting in those back rows are the ones I went through this process with... and we're next. It's so different to watch these and not know the people on your screen, like watching a TV show where you're the same age as the main characters so you watch it for years but you know the series finale is your year graduating. Every season another class graduates and then suddenly not only are the characters in the year above you graduating but you look at the screen and see your friends and mentors happen to all be guest-starring in that episode. It makes everything feel so real in the most bittersweet way, like you get to watch these people you know have their big moment but it also reminds you how much time has gone by since it all started and how it's almost over. Welp I'm a mess so I'll see ya in a few weeks when I'm finally stable enough to watch this again :) love you guys!! 💙💛
This is such a great question. They mostly say things like “Welcome Home!” Or “We love you MT ‘27!” Etc! Decorated in Maize and Blue and made with a whole lot of love
macavity was so good omg. WHen they said: you found your home i almost cried and i don't even live close to the states hahahaha and also no chance i will ever get in this education. What was the beginning song of the game day part? Update: nevermind i found it! But she does it so fucking well omg
I feel for those 5 women of color and the rest of the pocs in this program, because doing a theater degree as a person of color is absolute hell and the fact they made a point to address in their entrance I know it’s bad
haley! she was someone in their class who was on tour as fantine but she made it back to be in the senior entrance! that’s what she started with i dreamed a dream:)
why do i sit here and dream about going to collage but if i wanted to do this id be told not to... I would love to join them and be on stage i love to sing ... i could do this... however im 33 and i doubt my old self would not be welcome hahah
This is my superbowl

i can’t believe they did welcome to the tipton, i love it
i am a british teenager with no plans to go to america ever yet i am still so sentimental about this school. how.
As always, I’m bawling my eyes out by the end and extremely jealous of some theatre kids who I’ve never met. Congrats on everything guys

Watching this year’s as an actual college class of ‘27 makes me so incredibly emotional. It’s like a full circle all over again.
