    The back seat does fold down. There's no pull tab like the regular ZL1. You have to open the small velcro flap on the back side of the seatback in the trunk and push the latch with a screwdriver. It pops right forward and makes it easier for me to load up my 2020 ZL1 1LE's trunk for the track.

    glad to hear that the "rough ride" isn't actually that big of a deal. so many people have been complaining about it it really has me worried on my new order, but i come from track cars and like stiff-handling rides. just wasn't sure how overblown the fuss was.

    • @everjeff
      @everjeff  2 роки тому +6

      Yeah if you've experienced stiff suspension vehicles before this won't be any problem. It's worth getting the 1LE imo.

    • @mrjjthor
      @mrjjthor 2 роки тому +3

      The car rides extremely firm. If you live in an area with lots of uneven roads it'll bounce you everywhere in your vehicle. Many owners usually change tires to Michelin PS2 for better comfort while still retaining great performance and save the oem Goodyear tires for the track. On the freeway the car is pretty comfy but I still get headaches from driving the car long distances but it's well worth it.

    I have a question for *all* the ZL1 owners if I may.
    •Why did you choose the ZL1 1LE package versus the _standard_ ZL1?
    Lately I find myself missing the visceral experience of a V8.
    I had a 1968 Mustang Coupe back in high school. She ran 11.71@121mph averaging ~9mpg. Gas was also .98 cents a gallon for Premium back in the late 90's/early 00's. Plus I had easy access to race fuel and a two-year seasonal pass to the Friday Night Drags at Firebird Raceway.
    She cost me two and a half jobs, four girlfriends and a _ridiculous_ amount of money for a teenager. But it was worth it!
    With the death knell of the manual transmission and V8 on the horizon. I must do my part as a lifelong Greaser to 'Save the Manuals'.
    Thank you for your assessment.
    Stay classy my friends.

    • @everjeff
      @everjeff  2 роки тому +7

      Sounds like a badass Mustang that was definitely worth the work/relationship woes!
      I will be honest the last Camaro I had was a 98 SS. Until I picked the ZL1 1LE up I hadn’t driven a newer generation Camaro but I had owned 5 Corvettes and one C7 Z06 which shares the same LT4 engine as the ZL1.
      I was familiar with the power and engine and with the C7 Z06 I had the Z07 track package so I was used to a more rigid ride.
      Fuel costs have definitely went up but it’s about the same as driving a v8 Truck so not that big of a deal other than the tank isn’t as big so you will have more frequent gas station stops.
      With this car the extra gas station stops turn into conversations with other car enthusiasts so it’s pretty cool.
      Getting either the ZL1 or the ZL1 1LE I don’t think you will regret it.
      Pinned your comment, hopefully you will get some additional feedback from others.

    • @mrjjthor
      @mrjjthor 2 роки тому +5

      I owned both a zl1 and then upgraded to a zl1 1le a few years later. For me I chose the zl1 1le because of the looks and raw nature of the car. Comfort wasn't my main priority because the z1le wasn't my daily. Both cars are manual so that I could be more connected with the car and driving experience. There's a big difference in the handling of both cars although the base zl1 is still more than capable. The 1le package really makes the zl1 more of a hardcore precision instrument for driving experiences.
      However, if the streets in your area is really bad then the z1le will be more of a punishment to drive around town. The car is firm and bouncy over uneven roads. Some days I do get bad neck pains and when I do I cannot drive this car for it will make my pain worser. Bit it's still worth the pain sometimes. Lol.

      @@mrjjthor Much obliged my friend.
      This is precisely the type of information I need to make a well informed decision.
      Although, to be perfectly honest. I have my reservations about doing business with GM given their unscrupulous behavior lately.
      RacerX recently published a video stating that he is completely done with General Motors and I don't blame him. After reading hundreds of comments that echo the same sentiment; I am inclined to believe that the process will be no different for me.
      FWIW, Murphy's Law is my constant companion and I simply do not want to risk it with such a tremendous investment. The pragmatic life I have created forbids me from pursuing any emotional purchases.
      Therefore, I find myself in quite the conundrum. The entire impetus for purchasing a new performance car was/is my yearning to own a V8 once again. Plus I am obligated to do my part in saving the manuals. Like had mentioned previously. I had a 1968 Mustang in high school that ran 11.71 @ 121mph and I miss that dearly!
      Furthermore, I worry that I may run out of time to acquire such a vehicle before the world fully embraces BEV's and Hybrids.
      I always like to say that I am a die-hard Greaser who will burn fossil fuels until the day I die.
      Thank you for the clarification brother.
      Stay classy my friend.
      EDITED for missing punctuation.

      @@BertShackleford no problem and I'm glad my info helped. I live in California and with the announcement of no more sales of gas powered vehicles in 2035 has me thinking lately. I decided to keep my z1le since rumors is that gas powered Camaros will be discontinued in a few years also. I was going to trade my z1le in for a used Ferrari California but was afraid without a manual transmission I wouldn't enjoy the car as much over the course of a few months.
      Heck, I even bought the new GR Supra even though I hated the collaboration with BMW. I only got rid of the Supra because I got bored of the auto transmission. Now with the release of the manual Supra I'm having itchy fingers again. I need something that feels different than my Camaro so it cannot be another V8. I'll hold onto these cars because soon they'll gone as EV takes over the road.
      I even test drove a Tesla Model 3 Performance and they are fast cars. However, if your a car guy it's kind of hard to enjoy EV cars as your only vehicle for it feels soulless. I'll keep an EV as my daily in the future but my gas powered vehicles as my weekend toy cars.
      Perhaps your next best option for a V8 powered car that is still offered with an manual is either a Mustang or Challenger, if GM isn't a company you prefer giving your hard earned money to. I can't think of too many new cars sold now with a V8. Happy hunting for your new vehicle my friend. 👍🏻

    • @everjeff
      @everjeff  2 роки тому +5

      Hey, thanks. I appreciate it. That's a pretty good down payment. I'm not a financial advisor but I will say if there's anyway to get your score in the 720 range you will get much better interest rates.
      It's not always about your credit score though I know most lenders look at what your DTI (Debt to Income) ratio is as well.
      With interest rates rising I think we are going to start seeing banks really push to get people into a new car. This can be good but it can also be bad for some as you will get into something that will be very hard to make the payment on. This is where the term "Car Poor" comes from. Believe me, I've been there!
      One thing that I do when I am planning to finance something is to first decide on what payment I can comfortably afford and then I start putting that amount aside each month. If you can do that and not have any issue then you should be in the right ball park.
      You also have to remember that it's not just the car payment, make sure to get a quote for the car your planning on getting from your Insurance company and always plan for the unexpected, tires, fuel, etc., things that are normal items to replace.
      I hope some of this helps you out and you get what you want!

    • @everjeff
      @everjeff  2 роки тому +5

      Congratulations on the car! Being that the 1LE package is really designed for track you will definitely feel the road.
      It's not bad to me but I also had a C7 Z06 with Z07 track package so I was somewhat used to a harsh ride. I will say the ZL1 1LE is harsher than the Z06 was but it's really more noticeable if you are on roads that are in poor condition such as pot holes etc.

      This car has a lot of low end torque at 120 it still pulls nicely but you can start to feel the downforce from the wing for sure. 1LE package is definitely more for track than a straight line. Highest I’ve gotten mine is 160 but the car is extremely planted at high speed.
      Suspension is a bit bouncy I have another video I posted with in car camera just to show that. It’s not anything I have an issue with but some might.

      Measuring while the car is sitting flat, the center of the front splitter has some flexible "to a degree" composite material, that material is 4.5 inches off the ground. The corners of the splitter, same composite material, in front of the wheels is closer to 3.5 inches off the ground.
      You would still have to go about another inch to actually make contact with the splitter itself.

Due to how long the Z06 took to be released, I’m wondering if they just skip the RWD tt.

      I definitely wasn’t planning on the ZL1 at the time but my friend at the dealer told me I needed to come see it and I knew immediately that was the car to hold me over. Been a blast, I wish I could keep it and get the z06 but I just can’t do both, just too much for me hah.
      I really appreciate the sub. We will see what happens next week with dealers starting to get allocations and placing orders. I’m guessing if they can produce 25% Z06s in 2023 and they stay around the same total C8 output then they should make around 6500. We will see what happens!

    Can you make a video on how much it would cost to track your car on a regular basis , oil changes tires etc… race classes for people that wanna get better

    • @everjeff
      @everjeff  Рік тому +1

      I would love to but I just don't have the extra money for tracking at the moment, especially on a regular basis. I will pin this comment as I know there are many others that have commented on this video that own the ZL1, some 1LE.
      The car comes standard with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R tires, a set of tires is *not including installation/warranty is close to $2000 a set. These tires start 5/32nds of tread depth. There are quite a bit of factors on how long a set will last for track use, track condition, how hard your driving etc. You won't get many track days out of a set.
      Oil change costs are mostly going to be the cost of the oil as this car holds 10 quarts since it has the dry sump oil system so be prepared for that additional cost.
      Brakes aren't carbon ceramic so the cost wouldn't be very bad for those, again, just depends on how hard your pushing the car and for how long.
      As far as race classes it would depend on the area you live. Most areas have some type of track around and usually there are some type of instruction offered.

      Yeah the C7 Z06 was a great car. I had mine for 2 years about 16k miles. Only issue I had during that time was with the carbon fiber hood. A section under the clear carbon stinger area became distorted and with it being a visible carbon area I had to get the entire hood replaced but it was all covered under warranty.

      The Z06 is going to be a bit quicker but very marginal from my comparison on the street. It's kind of hard to describe but the 1LE feels very planted in comparison to the C7 Z06. I've heard its a similst feeling as the C7 ZR1/ZTK. I am assuming due to how much aero is on the car.
      If you are going with 1LE you will definitely notice a difference from the Mag ride on the Z06.
      I had a 16 Z06/Z07 and the stifness of the 1LE is definitely noticeable but I like it. I definitely don't see as many of the ZL1 1LEs on the road as I do C6 and C7s so I get asked abou the car quite a bit at gas stops.

      Having a good income definitely will help but really I didn't have a great income in my earlier years. I slowly progressed with buying and selling cars as I've went through life. I will be as transparent as possible and don't want to bore you but below has been my journey with Cars just to see how I've progressed.
      I definitely haven't made all smart financial decisions everytime but with having my Mom (2 time Cancer survivor) and Dad (Currently dealing with Inoperable Brain Tumor, Cancer) I have learned that you need to enjoy life as much as you can.
      First car: 1982 Ford Escort (About an $800 car at the time when I was 16, 1991, yeah Im getting old!)
      Second Car: 1989 Honda Prelude ($8000 car at the time got it at 18. First car that I actually made payments on)
      Third Car: 1991 Ford Mustang GT (I think it was around $14,000 in 1994 when I moved up to it at 20, first V8!)
      Fourth Car: 1998 Chevrolet Camaro SS (This was my first car that was really a stretch at the time for my income but I did whatever I had to to get that car and ensure I paid for it and kept it, also went through a Mariage and Divorce but kept the car.) I was around 23 when I ordered that car, waited almost a year for it due to GM being on Strike that year.
      Fifth Car: 2007 Chevrolet Corvette (I was remarried in 2002 and we will celebrate our 20 year anniversray next month. Finding a good partner in life to me is another key, if you work as a team you can accomplish most anything. I paid around $56,000 for this car, on payments of course but only kept the car a year as a lady ran into me taking out the front of the car with less than 1000 miles.
      Sixth Car: 2008 Chevrolet Corvette (Replaced the 2007 with this one it was very similiar priced but it was nice upgrading to the LS3 engine and drove it for 2 years.)
      Seventh Car: 2010 Chevrolet Corvette GrandSport (This wasn't a must purchase but I liked the wide body look and I went with Black - First time having a Black car and it was a huge lesson learner! I do love Black but my OCD just can't handle it. There are definitely better cleaning products out there now to make it more manageble but it's still a part time job) This car was around $64,000 again I still made payments.
      Eighth Car: 2012 Chevrolet Cruze (Had a life set back and our family closed our business. Had to downsize and sell my beloved GrandSport - after I had already put about $25k of mods into it, car was worth around $75 to 80 but I did a quick sell for $58. This one definitely hurt!
      Ninth Car: 2015 Chevrolet Corvette (Life was back on track with a new career and doing well enough to get back into a Corvette. This car was around $70k.
      Tenth Car: 2016 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition (I should have known better than to buy the 2015 since I had Supercharged my 2010 GrandSport. As soon as the C7 Z06 came out I knew I was going to want one so I went all in. This was the most expensive purchase I had ever made besides our Home. The car had an MSRP of $115,420.
      Eleventh Car: 2018 Chevrolet Sonic (This was a downsize by choice. I thought I was going to get ahead of the game and decided to go ahead and sell my C7 Z06 and just drive something inexpsive while I saved money for a C8 Z06. I had learned my lesson and knew I wouldn't want a C8 Stingray which was going to be released in 2020. I figured the C8 Z06 would get released the following year 2021. Boy was I wrong! Sold my Z06 for $70k.
      Twelfth Car: 2020 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE (My current vehicle and Daily Driver. Out of all of my vehicles I can honestly say this one has been the best. I may take some heat rating the ZL1 higher than the Z06 but hear me out.
      This car has been flawless mechanically and it may not be as fast as the Z06 and it's a little bit of a harsher ride on public roads but its a fun and thrilling experience. It has the same LT4 engine that the C7 Z06 had but since I have limnitations with my left hip and need the Auto I can say the 10 speed in the ZL1 is way better than the 8 speed in the Z06.
      I would highly recommend a Camaro ZL1 to anyone that I know or that asks about it.
      I hope I didn't bore you too much but ideally just saving money when possible or buying and selling to upgrade works pretty well, or at least it has for me. Also avoid Credit Cards if at all possible, everyone always intends on paying the balance off quick but it usually doesn't happen and you will just be fighting interest. Before you know it you will be paying $100s a month and that does you no good.
      -Jeff

    The ZL1 looks as good or better than the C8. Keep it and wait for the Zoro. The C8 Z06 is overhyped and with the markups and supply chain issues, you are going to pay $150k+ for the Z06, $175k+ for the Z07, not worth it.

      The ZL1 no doubt looks the part. WIth the price of the Z06 I'm pretty sure the Zora is going to be out of my price range. With the Z06 starting at $106k Base, if they do make a ZR1 that one I bet will start at $150k base and the Zora may be a $200k base car.
      The Z06 Configurator isn't up yet on www.chevrolet.com but with the pricing released and the spec that I want to build you are right near the price. I'm figuring around the 170k mark with taxes etc. My Dad's love of Corvettes is what got me into being an Enthusiast. We used to do shows and events together when we both had a Corvette.

      Rofl, nice comment there.
      1. I'm not complaining about the gas mileage, but it's something I get asked quite a bit about. Since owning the car I'm still averaging around 15mpg and for the type of car and the fun it is to drive it's worth it.
      2. "drop a couple meals a day there chubby" Really? that's what your going to go with? I appreciate the motivation, since making this video I've already lost almost 100lbs so thanks.
