Hi Vince, so good to see you back on your travels. Glad you got Aitch`s engine going again. (although more cost from the pocket) that`s the way it goes at times. Was near BS the other day & noticed you had gone and have been waiting for your latest vlog. Really enjoyed that & great to see & hear the countryside again. Lovely little spot to moor up Vince. Some nice looking boats there too. Was that other building opposite the lock cottage, Bishop Stortford canoeing club? I was looking at joining so I could keep my Kayak there. It would give me easy access to the river. Great vlog Vince, thanks mate
Hi mate Ron from Adelaide - during your 5 month lock down you said you hadn’t run the engine for a month when it went down on you - just wondering how your little PV panels coped over that month ……?….
Dear me you've been having some bad luck mate I think that this is the 2nd or 3rd time I've left you a message as I don't remember messaging you that much but I've Subscribed to you so I will keep an eye on you. I've been following quite a few narrow boaters as I've been thinking seriously about buying 1. But unfortunately at the Mo my health isn't good and with the Covid my hospital waiting time as been put on hold. However I hope your luck starts to get Better? Take care and stay safe.
There's always something going wrong on these boats John! Hope the NHS sorts you out mate! Its a nice way to live, but can be hard work sometimes, unless you are in a Marina!
Bet you're glad to be out of BS Vince! My hometown has been ruined over the years! Have you got a new camera? Filming looks great. We used to hire canoes from the lock keepers cottage when we were kids, still one of my favourite walking spots. See you soon. Jeff.
A few people from BS have said the same as you Jeff! Yes it is pretty, once you get under the railway bridge (And no I'm still using the same gear) see you soon mate!
Mostly these old diesel engines you find in narrow boats are as basic as a diesel engine can be, all mechanical, no electronics to go wrong & all the fuel system components are by & large refurbishable ! The hardest part with the injection pumps is keeping the timing correct when dismantling & reassembling. The injection pump is self lubricated by the fuel so i would be interested to know how you had diesel & oil escaping ? Sadly, it’s so often the case that mechanics see a person as an easy sucker, especially when they are stranded and have little or no other options, they start telling you a load of stuff you don’t understand ! I personally stand there listening away, throw in the occasional “oh really” & when i’ve heard enough tell Em to “do one” ! Not saying this is the case here but the little i did hear would have me on guard for sure ! Diesel bug is the biggest fuel related issue with waterway diesel systems, if you’ve not heard of it, google it, it causes particle contamination of the fuel that blocks filters & can cause issues with the pump & injectors. It happens more when tanks are half full in winter as the bug lives in the water that condensates inside the metal tank & sinks to the bottom of the fuel. Good luck with the travels fella !
Thanks for the info.very informative! Mick is the only mechanic i trust, he has done work for me before, and didn't charge me enough (I had to twist his arm to take more money) which is weird! But I take your point, the other mechanics I've seen, I wouldn't touch them with my Barge Pole!

Nice to be moving Jason! Mick the mechanic doesn't usually come out to the boats! He does all his work in Lea Valley Marina! Looks like they've blown the champions league.
Great Vlog! Question: Could you have used that tree right behind you to moor to, or is that frowned upon due to the mooring line potentially harming the tree?
Well done mate, good to see you back cruising again, hope the engine troubles didn't set you back too much. I was handy with the tools having driven construction plant and tractors a lot, but those injector pumps are beyond me. Don't you have a hand primer to pump the diesel through. Had them on the old BMC lumps in my boat, thought they would have them on the A series engine in yours. Your boat looks well cared for, don't suppose you had much else to do during lock down, we've just had a case confirmed about 5 miles from where I live, the Vietnamese have handled it well so far, I just hope they don't slack off too soon. Look forward to seeing more videos of your travel's and wonder if the trip round the North of London is still on the cards. Take care and good cruising.
Thanks! Unfortunately no hand primer on this one. If you look closely at Aitch's paintwork you can see where the winter has took its toll (its a never ending cycle) Hope to be going down the Lea and through London some time in June (but don't hold me to it) Look after yourself and see you on the next one!
