Come with me as I travel along the delightful UK waterways on my home Narrowboat Aitch, discovering towns, villages, and countryside never seen before (by me).
Watch as I go through the inevitable problems that come my way and how I cope with them.

lovely video and congratulations for getting to the top with out too much bother. Ash was very patient. Hope you all enjoyed the walk and cream teas at the end. I had to re subscribe, as i hadnt been getting your chanel recently. i wondered why.
Thanks Tessa. We really enjoyed the cream teas, they went down a treat. Naughty UA-cam haha!
My favourite channels are the mindful narrow boat, your channel and boat time although I do like boat dog traveller
That’s nice to know. And good company to be in. Thanks!
Eight for the winding
Congratulations on reaching the top lock and a well-deserved cream tea after all that work opening and closing all the locks. That was a nice trip very relaxing to watch well worth waiting for " sat on my waiting to watch list " see you and Ashby on your next adventure bye for now.
Cheers Alan! The cream tea went down a treat.See you next time mate!
I'm enjoying watching your vlogs, only been at it a couple of weeks, working through the back catalogue. Love the simple "come along with me" filming, and the great narrative over the top. Your phrases remind me of my dad, he was from West London (Paddington), so the accent ever so slightly different, but the phrases exactly the same. My husband would love an uncensored version of your vlogs, but I just watched one of yours from the Fenny Stratford cruise, and told him you don't like the agricultural language! Keep it up Vince, your content really is soothing.
I’m glad that you’re still enjoying them Linda! I’m just being myself (no airs and graces) I have some old friends that I haven’t seen for a while from Paddington. Thanks for the nice comment.
Brilliant video dad.. Im so relieved that you managed to get some help through all those locks. I bet you were too haha! That would’ve been hard work completely on your own. I’m so proud of you for going for it and travelling about. You deserve it after all the hard work you’ve had to put up with over the years. Keep going, we all love seeing your adventures xxxx
Thanks Clare. That could have turned into a long and difficult struggle. But with all the help it was easy and enjoyable. See you soon love dad xxx
Still subscribed! Haven't pulled any of that unsubscribing nonsense on me yet! LOL Glad you made it up the lock flight unscathed. That looked like quite the long day. Silly Ashby, I'm sure he views Richard as a favourite uncle. ;)
I’m glad that you haven’t had any of that unsubscribing nonsense haha! And I think Ashby knows where his bread is buttered. He’s kept his trap shut lately.
Hello, I have followed you from the start and enjoy your videos. I remain 'subscribed' so no problems there. I must say that, not trusting computers, I do not rely on notifications. If there seems to be a long time without 'seeing from you' I check your website to make sure I haven't missed anything. I have been up Hatton twice, each time with a professional crew. My log shows that in 1978 on a day that included Hatton we 'did' 47 locks in all. I was on a working holiday at the time and count myself lucky to have had the chance to experience a limited insight to what life was like in the commercial days. Now, it is good to experience the trip at a leisurely pace via your video. Thanks.
Cheers Gordon and thanks for checking. 47 locks in 1 day would just about finish me off haha! My pace nowadays is much slower and stress free I reckon. Hope to see you on the next one!
Hi Vince, just a couple of quick notes that may help you. My boat had stick on non-slip decking strip on both the top and side walkways. I believe you can get this by the roll to suit your length needs. As for running two boats side by side, the simple trick is to lash the two together starting at the front, then as you can on the rear depending on length. normally two boats running together will be sucked towards each other but at canal speed this doesn't apply. Finally from me that tea room, We spent a very pleasant afternoon there a few years ago when staying nearby on our way back from Scotland. Keep up the good work Vince looking forward to your next instalment. Kev
Hi Kevin. We would have tied the boats together if we didn’t have all the help from the volunteers. But the strips of non slip stuff for the roof is a good tip that I will look into. In my opinion, you can’t beat a nice cream tea. In moderation that is haha! Look after yourself, and hope to see you on the next one!
Its been a long time Since i have seen your vlogs Vince i followed you along then lost track of your travels, i would say you got lucky on this flight of locks Canal folks are the best and the locky's do a great job and deserve a lot of thanks, Enjoy your cream tea When i lived in Devon cream teas were a regular treat for the kids the misses and i when we go back home on holiday we always have to have one. Stay safe take care of Ashby mate Ed 40 S of Vegas
You’re right Ed. I did get lucky, and I’m very grateful to those lock volunteers. And the cream tea to top it off was lovely.
When you put the top coat on the roof, sieve some sand onto it to make it non-slip.
I might just do that!
Hi Vince - do you have a patreon account? - I’ve heard they don’t take as much in commission as buy me a coffee
No I don’t have one of those. But I will look into it. As you have pointed it out.
Hi Vince, that seemed like an enjoyable day for you. What lovely people those volunteers are. It’s nice to see different aspects on the channel. Variety is the spice of life. I’ll have a look through those websites. I am still subscribed and got an email notification. People have to make a choice once they click the bell, so that could be why some people don’t always get notified. I’ve found that I can’t buy you a coffee. I’ve tried a few times but it’s not working for me. Prob due to my older out of date browser. I haven’t updated it Though since they expect to harvest your soul! 😊 Take care Vince. Looking forward to the next one. Xxx
The people out here on the whole are lovely, helpful, and most of all normal. Don’t let them harvest your soul hahaha!
Love your videos. 'Gwen' in Wales is short for Gwyneth. This must be the most trivial piece trivia I've ever burdened someone with - sorry Vince.
Don’t worry. It’s far from that haha!
Put another coat on the roof with some antislip granules in it, might stop you going on your arse. Smooth paint when wet is like ice.
I might just do that. But it will have to be spring time when I start painting again.
Cheers Vince. Lovely bit of boatmanship! Great video as always. Best wishes, Bill.
Thanks Bill. Nice of you to say that. All the best to you Vince!
So glad luck came your way Vince, as a solo boater that flight wouldn't have been much fun. Love a good cream tea. I'm not from London but I like the accent and understand you😅.. Aww Ashby loves you really. K
I needed a bit of luck or it would have been a long day Kath. Which was topped off with a lovely cream tea mmmm! And Ashby is still going on about Richard. He’s getting on my nerves haha!
Hi mate . . . All good at this end . . not been un subscribed yet thankfully. Shame about the numbers but im sure they will return. Loved the video as always. Take care bud.
Hello Mark! Thanks for checking. I’m glad that you still like the video after all this time. You must be a glutton for punishment haha!
@@NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle you are one of a very small number of vloggers that keeps lt real. . . no click bait or constant disasters to capture viewers. I think we just love cruising along side you and to use your words “ every step of the way “. Keep em coming !!.
❤ It's good to hear a cockney accent
Haha!
I have been recommended to follow you as l am Linda Parker's cousin. Her mum was my dad's sister. I am enjoying your travels.
Hello Val. I'm glad that you're enjoying my travels. Linda did tell me that she recommended you, so it's nice to see you on here and commenting. All the best Vince!
Another great video Vince, thanks. My subscription has never cancelled itself on YT but I did notice for a while that your videos were not appearing on the main screen in the reccomendations. I have turned on notifications to make sure I dont miss any. There are so many videos on YT it must be a challenge to get them in from of folks. Keep going though mate, the numbers shall continue to grow. I see you have more than 8000 subscribers, and that is a good number of people taking an interest in what you are doing. You don't sensationalise things, or put click bait thumbnails up to falseley draw people in. So basically that is a good number of pals to have. You wouldn't want to have to fork out for a cream tea for them all !! All the best, as always..
Cheers Stephen. I have access to all the analytics of the channel, and what I see is not good. plus I added the first 74 vids together and worked out the average views per vid, and it worked out just under 13,000 views each one. Where as the last 10 vids i have made I'm struggling to get 2000 views, which is quite alarming. And makes me wonder if it's worth making these videos anymore. All the best to you Stephen!
@@NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle - I understand what you are saying, completely. I do hope the numbers come back and uickly. I would be gutted if you were to stop.
@stephenedwards3397 I’ll keep plugging away at it for a while I reckon.
Hi Vince we watch your vlogs, have subscribed from the beginning and have given a like for this one woohoo. We get notifications 👏 We come from Walthamstow and Chingford ,was near river lee . Hence our fondness of you and your channel . Good luck Julie and Alan x
I'm glad that you are getting notified Julie and Alan. And thanks for sticking with me all this time. I know Walthamstow quite well. As I originally come from Plaistow. All the best Vince x
Vince, is that aitch as in harry redknapp aitch..? ⚒️
My old man’s name was Harry. Aitch is the cockney way of saying H haha!
Great video. Just checked we are still subscribed.👍😎
Thank you! And cheers for checking!
Nice 1 matey, great viewing as always. im the same as you.... Cream teas mmmmm
Cheers! Yes you can’t beat a nice cream tea once in a while.
Vincent, take a tip I learnt from Clint Eastwood, he was asked how at 94 he is still making films etc, his reply...Never Let The Old Man In...Keep telling yourself you're old will make you age quicker.
That’s a good tip. I’ll have to remember that when I get old haha!
Nice one Vince! Needed a lift after seeing the US election results. And I'm still subcribed.
I'm glad that gave you a lift. And thanks for letting me know you're still subscribed.
You lucked out going up the Hatton Flight Vince, I must have done that flight about a 10 times and I’ve always had help whether it was from another boater and or from volunteers, generally both. I’m subscribed and I get notifications.
10 times, you must have Narrowboating for a while Paul! Thanks for letting me know about the subscription!
You just can’t beat good luck 🍀👍
I agree with you there Sheepdog!
Nice work on the locks. That little Ashby didn't pull his finger out much though 😂
You’re right about Ashby. I think he needs to pull his weight a bit more haha!
Another boater gave me this tip and I've done it ever since. Before climbing the lock ladder, put the windlass handle first through belt loop in back of trousers. Push it all the way down up to the sockets so it can't fall out. Then both hands are free.
That’s a good tip Timothy. I’m always open to good suggestions. Some people on here tell me how I should be doing things in a rude way as if I’m a bit of a wally. But as you put it so nicely, you might see me doing that in future vlogs haha!
Hi Vince, I enjoyed the journey again. A busy one for you. It was lovely to hear about the way you all pitch in and help each other and the friendships you make. The locks were interesting. I love hearing your accent, it reminds me of home and all the memories. Ashby may like Richard but he loves you. He has a lovely face, Ashby that is 😂 A nice idea to use your channel to help and promote others. I am still subscribed and Ive been getting notifications. The weather was beautiful. Not like here in South Wales. It's cloudy and cold.. I'm glad you enjoyed the cream tea. It looked delicious. Bless you Vince. Keep safe and try not to slip on the roof. Love aunt Babs XXX
Most people out here are lovely. (You still get the odd A hole) but on the whole the people are so kind and helpful. I’m proud of my accent, but I do have to tone it down a bit or no one will understand me haha! I was hamming up a bit about Ashby he’s still my best mate. I’m glad you are still getting notified some people have got back to me saying that they haven’t, which is a bit sad. I could have them cream teas all day long but my motto is: a little bit of what you fancy does you good. Look after yourself and I’ll see you on the next one xxx
I have bee suscribed to your channel since before you left Essex, and avidly watch all your videos but UA-cam rarely, if ever, send me a notification of yout new vlogs, is is only because I look for them. Another thing I notice is that very often, after I have watched an episode it doesn't show up with a red line underneath it to show I have watched it. Doesn't matter to me either way as I invariably watch them more than once. You and Country House Gent are my two most favourite UA-camrs
I don't think I'm UA-cams cup of tea, but I won't let that worry or change me! Thanks that is high praise indeed, because CountryHouseGent is my favourite too!
I'm still subscribed but I didn't get notification of your previous video (the one about Warwick). I've just watched and enjoyed it (and hit the like button). BTW, there's nothing wrong about speaking with a regional accent. I haven't lived in the UK for over forty years but still speak with my north of England accent!
I’m glad that you’re still subscribed. I enjoyed walking around Warwick as well. I’m very proud of my accent, but like I said on another comment. I do wonder sometimes if anyone understands what I’m going on about haha!
Well done Vince, I am still subscribed and looking forward to the next vids 👌👌
I’m glad you are still subscribed. As some people have checked and found that they have been unsubscribed. Hope to see you next time.
Hi Vince. As allways nice video keep them comeing Thank you from Brian w.germany
Cheers Brian. I will mate!
Subscribed Vince 👍
Thank you very much.
You was lucky with having help with all the locks this time, well done to the volunteers for doing what they do...enjoyed watching your journey with people you met along your way 🥰🥰
I was definitely very lucky that day. Or it would’ve been very hard work. I’m glad you enjoyed the journey and the camaraderie. Hope to see you on the next one.
Hi Vince, You’re right about your videos, we’ve not seen much of you for a while and we’re very glad to watch this one! The last we saw of you was when you were in the middle of painting Aitch. Don’t ever lose your accent Vince, you remind me of my mates down south, where blokes are dependable and always there when you’re in a fix. Look after yourself and Ashby, Brian and Chris.
Yes. I don’t think that I’m UA-cam’s cup of tea. I’m proud of my accent but I do wonder if people understand what I’m going on about haha!
Busy days for you but another peaceful journey for me. I love the camaraderie you have found along the way.Partnering up seems like the only way with so many locks in a row
There is a camaraderie among the boaters which is lovely. If I tried to do all them locks by myself, I would have been stiff and tired the next day. So I was really grateful for all the help that I got. See you next time.
Well done good job with the locks and with halp all the best to you and good look😊
Thanks Suzanne. All the best to you as well.
much easier to tie the boats together and go up as 'one' - then only one steerer is required.
Thanks for that tip Mike!
Thank you for another Cracking video, I’m glad UA-cam recommended your videos about a month or so ago and I have been catching up with your older ones. I heard you say in a past video that are from East London can I ask what your Manor was? I’m in Canning Town for what it’s worth!
Cheers Andrew. I went to school in Canning Town. Eastlea. But I’m from Grange Road Plaistow! The Balaam Street end.
Re-subscribed I wondered why I wasn't seeing anything. Can you add a link to the charity that Richard supports.. I work with the Wounded Warriors Canada.. Nothing wrong with the east end accent.. My Dad's Aunt and Cousins were from east London, my Dad's uncle has a thick Scots brogue.. Old school canal boatmen ..
UA-cam are playing up a bit. The link to the charity is in the video description. I’m proud of the cockney accent, but I think I’m a dying breed haha! Thanks for letting me know about being unsubscribed.
Question Do you tip the volunteers? Enjoy your videos 😊
I have made them a cup of tea and chocolate bar in the past Janet. But I don’t think they take tips. I’m glad you enjoy them!
Good to have help through all those locks. You meet a lot of friendly folks. Passed on your link to my cousin Val (mom's side) hope she stops by for a visit.
I got plenty of help, but it could have gone the other way and I would have been all day doing them, so I was very lucky and grateful. You do meet some friendly people from all over the world out here Linda. I will keep my eyes open for Val (just in case)
