THE WAY I ABSOLUTELY THREW MYSELF WHEN MS CROCOMBE SAID “i know you don’t like to talk about it but sometimes we need to learn from our mistakes don’t we👁☕️👁”
@Flying V.S. Farm That was an awesome collaboration. There is also priorattire who is the one who made the riding habit shown for the woman riding side saddle, and she has a video of her version with the same fabric. Very cool to see these re-enactors and support for that in all of these videos.
I’m from the East coast of New York, and I particularly despise sticky or very dry summer weather, and I really don’t like being tan in any way regardless of season, so yes, cloudy or overcast but not on the verge of mild rain with some of the sky peeking out with flashes of sun is best, with the temperature being enough for short sleeves in the day and long sleeves in the evening.
We honestly need to look into bringing back home service. The US is not good to people below a certain level... I grew up in hillbilly country in the hills of Missouri. Service, such as kitchen help, housekeeping and childcare, was one of the first steps for many young ladies. Men often started as stewards, houseboys, drivers and such... And with this 'work history' they could get better jobs later.
My great grandmother was in service too. She was the housekeeper of young Princess, who was releated to the last emperor of Germany. The Emperor was her Husbands Uncle-in-law. My Great-Granny was very proud of her position and was some kind of a motherly friend to the Princess. I met the Princess a few times. She was always very kind to me. We talked sometimes on the graveyard, because Great-Grannys Grave was not far away from the graves of the noble Family. The Princess died a few years ago, nearly 100 years old.

Haven't been to Scotland yet, but I appreciate the work you do! I often think how hard it would be to prep for those roles! People can ask anything. He figured out how to appropriately share with the audience the arrangement of overlapping buttoned flaps!

WAIT I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS. Does Mrs. Crocombe know what you do?? I feel like she'd be so proud of you if she did! I'm sure that would be a wonderful conversation to have with her. This was so wonderful to watch! Having visited countless historical "preservation" sites, I'm nearly uniformly underwhelmed at underwhelming attempts at historical accuracy and, particularly when it comes to creating an atmosphere. The sense I got of being in the kitchen is just so completely delightful… and actually made me want to make some of those foods even more than the actual Mrs. Crocombe videos did! Something about you moving around in the kitchen and interacting just made it feel even more real. And GOODNESS Mrs. Crocombe is good! Not to mention Mrs. Warwick! Everyone there is so delightful and unbelievably gifted at what they do. I love how steeped in their time and world they are. That reference to curry and the Queen becoming Empress of India was fantastic. Also, I wonder who lives there! (Since you mentioned an actual family does.) I'm slightly disappointed it seems it's not the Braybrookes anymore, especially since that title carries on! I began to wonder if, since the kitchen produces actual quantities of food, that goes to the family…? Though I suppose not. (That would be incredibly cool, though, if that family were historical enthusiasts and could live out their dream like that!) Still curious, though!
Mrs Crocombe speaking about meat being transported from Aussie lands to Europe made my thrash heart tremble and cry 😭 Absolutely, enormously grateful that two UA-cam channels that I adored separately have given me the best content and now unite?! WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!
This was great to watch. My dad tells me that my grandmother was a maid in a manor house near London, so it is nice to see what life was (sort of) like for her.
"Bernadette's irresistible charm" is indeed a hundred percent the reason I'm subscribed, she could be doing literally anything and I'd be like: what a good time!!!
I love how the English heritage channel converses with the other channels and encourages crossover viewing. It is so amazing of them. Whenever John Townsend get a package I get so excited!
I previously worked in a living history museum and it was honestly one of the most fascinating thing I've done, both representing history and seeing how the guests would react to us. As a side note- historical cooking on wood burning stoves is severely under appreciated in terms of how difficult it was to bake! Oven temperature regulation seems to be an impossible task at points haha
I agree! Saving up for a taxi or train would be nice! At least you are just a drive away, unlike me, who is half way around the world from the audley end house 😭😭😭
There is a trick you can use where you ask them for an extreme request and then slowly get them used to the idea of agreeing to a smaller request. For example, asking for a trip outside of the country by plane. Then compromise and suggest a drive to audley end (offer to pay for gas and the trip)
It says in the video the reason they're not allowed to film in the upper rooms and living areas is because people actually live in those areas, is that incorrect?
As an equestrian, I was quite pleasantly surprised to see them featured! One of my current projects, sadly still in the research phase of it, is to make riding habits to show their evolution through history. And as always, I loved the video!
The excited “There it is there it is there it is” of finding the kitchen has me smiling so ridiculously wide I love seeing and hearing about the things people love!!
OMG this is sooooo exciting to me! I love English Heritage and National Trust houses and have been a member of both for 2 years now! Now they are opening up again I am looking forward to seeing them again
BERNADETTE YOU LIKED MY COMMENT OH MY WORD I'm just. I'm floored. Fangirling. Maybe this will make up for all the tornadoes and terrible storms we're supposed to have today. :(
I have been to audley end house once, on a school trip. But we only went for maybe an hour, did not go inside any of the building and just had a picknick in the grass (right next to that artful hedge, actually). After watching this I so wish we could have gone inside! I am trash for Mrs Crocombe too! And I'm from the Netherlands, so it/'s not really something I could go do again easily :(
I've been following English Heritage for quite some time since here (Isle of Man) I'm also part of a reenactment group in this case we are part of Manx Heritage :-) Isn't it amazing being transported to another era just like that? For me it's always sad when I have to get back to the real world :( Loved the video and no doubt that's a place I have to visit :-) TY Bernardette!!!
This is an unbelievable work! This lady has to live the roll she is playing every day. That is the ultimate acting job, a real piece of living ancient art.
Love it! Great to see Hana again and the fact that you opened the vid with the theme music put a smile on my face. Great video and it's nice to see Audley End. Seeing it in person is definitely on my bucket list!
I can’t believe I’ve gotten to see Jas. Townsend and y’all collaborate w/ English Heritage! & now actually visiting across the pond, meeting in person!!! 🥰 Dreams do come true...
"This is a Bernadette Banner vlog, and we call everything trash' here." That is surely a quote for the ages, my dear. I'm not certain why I'm so tickled by it, but I am!
Thank you for taking us along to Audley End House and Gardens. It was a wonderful step back in time. Mrs. Crocombe is very wonderful, thank you for sharing your first meeting with her. Yes, I said first,(wishful thinking), Have you ever thought of doing a historically correct dress for Mrs. Crocombe, and presenting it to her? That would be a great deal of research I would think. Since you get to the UK sometimes I think it would be doable. I am a fan of both videos, the Audley End House, Mrs. Crocombe, and your videos Bernadette. For me, it was the best of both worlds. Thank you once more.

SO delighted for you both to have met mrs. crocombe! As others have said here, I have followed her for quite some time and found the blending of my two favorite channels to be, quite simply, captivating. Thank you so very much, Bernadette, for a most professional yet personable peek into your stay.
I love how sassy Hana is and how she seems to make it her mission in life to get Bernadette to make as many 'she's mad' faces, tell as many 'ye olde Victorian plumbing' stories, and get her to say 'what's that?' to as many modern references as possible. It's like Bernadette and Hana work to counterbalance each other with Bernadette pulling Hana towards the Victorian Era and Hana keeping Bernadette firmly planted in the 21st century. They get and give the best of both worlds that way and their friendship is magical.
I have been horse trash since inception. You just can't have enough horse for me. Lovely to see Mrs. Crocombe bustling about her empire. Long may she reign!
It’s impactful watching all the Living History channels. For one it should teach us how we strive to lived without convenience shopping. From Townshed to Mrs. Crocombe (including this channel as well) These living history channels has opened my eyes on how I participate to consumerism.
I used to go to work in Cambridge from Audley End Train station every day fir 2 years. I lived in Saffron Walden, the town just up the road from Audley End Mansion.
So delightful! Thank you for taking us along ❤️ And yes, whenever I find myself in London again, I will make my merry way down to Audly End to meet The Legend herself.
Have you ever visited "Beamish Open Air Museum" when you've been here in the UK? It's in the North East of England and is a massive place. It has different parts, "The Miner's Cottages", shops, school, church, dentist, etc. You can get around by tram, they have horse drawn technicals, a(although the day we visited was the horse's day off)..Well worth a visit, I think you would enjoy it.
I might have squealed out loud when I saw that you posted this video!! Because I love working sites where the home/site is reflected as the time period. Thank you, Bernadette! The only place I’ve been close to this is either in Virginia or in Canada, where they recreate the 1700s as a child and it always delighted me. I would’ve been a seamstress.
Are you sure it was you squealing and not me because I was pretty loud? lol 😅 Was it Williamsburg that you went to in Virginia? I live in Virginia and actually lived in Williamsburg when I was in middle school. I’d love to visit Audrey End House, it looks so much more lively than some of the monuments I’ve visited...
I could have sworn that the sugar-salt mistake was a Downton Abbey reference!
Poor Mrs. Patmore, she was bawling after the disaster pudding. I’m glad she treated Daisy better after that.
Same!
I am definitely here for period dresses, Mrs. Crocombe, AND Bernadette's irresistible charm. :-)
I was wondering about that! They never talk about temperature control !!!
Thank you, Bernadette, so much for this video. I love the English Heritage series and it was great to a look behind the scenes. ❣️
My parents are vehemently refusing to drive me to audley end and I will DIE mad about it
Then save up any money you can and take a train and or taxi there. Sounds like your parents are not into education.
It's because they're going to surprise you with a trip there.
I agree! Saving up for a taxi or train would be nice! At least you are just a drive away, unlike me, who is half way around the world from the audley end house 😭😭😭
@@AnnaDominiqueJ me too 😣
There is a trick you can use where you ask them for an extreme request and then slowly get them used to the idea of agreeing to a smaller request. For example, asking for a trip outside of the country by plane. Then compromise and suggest a drive to audley end (offer to pay for gas and the trip)
Can't believe someone actually lives in this majestic house. I wish I could have this opportunity 😊
No one lives in it now, these are actors doing "living history". But a while ago people did live there.
It says in the video the reason they're not allowed to film in the upper rooms and living areas is because people actually live in those areas, is that incorrect?
Living history is one of my favourite things in the world, and I really wish there was more around.
Simply google your area.theres alot around. I have a friend that has a job doing that
This video put the biggest smile on my face
“Excuse the Muggles” IM DYING
19th century vlogs be like: Finally meeting Mrs Crocombe irl * emotional *
OMG can't believe it's real thing they are doing at Audley End, and Mrs Cromombe!!!! I've been watching along and adore her sooooo much!
As an equestrian, I was quite pleasantly surprised to see them featured! One of my current projects, sadly still in the research phase of it, is to make riding habits to show their evolution through history.
And as always, I loved the video!
Oh my.... looks like you two had a fantastic time as evidenced by the giggles and swooning.
I love how these actors bring back to life past times. It's like going back in time. Going there it's totally worth it.
The excited “There it is there it is there it is” of finding the kitchen has me smiling so ridiculously wide I love seeing and hearing about the things people love!!
How Bernadette feels about Mrs Crocombe is how we feel about Bernadette 😌💛
The shade mrs crocombe threw at mary ann
It was gold
OMG this is sooooo exciting to me! I love English Heritage and National Trust houses and have been a member of both for 2 years now! Now they are opening up again I am looking forward to seeing them again
Oh this is THE BEST. Like. I was absolute TRASH for Mrs Crocombe and for you and NOW THESE THINGS HAVE COMBINED and I'm just LOST.
BERNADETTE YOU LIKED MY COMMENT OH MY WORD
I'm just. I'm floored. Fangirling. Maybe this will make up for all the tornadoes and terrible storms we're supposed to have today. :(
I love how she's completely in character
I love how respectfully proud ms c is about her kitchen and team 😭
"She does love the musical, it is becoming very popular...I'm not sure I approve" Damn Mrs. Crocombe, didn't have to do her like that 😭😂😂
I loved that line haha
Music hall* quite a bit kinkier than musicals 🤫
Hana's dress is awesome, Mrs. Crocombe knew yalls names I'd really cry, what a beautiful video
"It can be beautiful without being sunny." Yes! Nice to see someone else appreciates that too.
I live on the southern Oregon coast. It's often windy or rainy, but EVERY day here is beautiful!
I have been to audley end house once, on a school trip. But we only went for maybe an hour, did not go inside any of the building and just had a picknick in the grass (right next to that artful hedge, actually). After watching this I so wish we could have gone inside! I am trash for Mrs Crocombe too!
And I'm from the Netherlands, so it/'s not really something I could go do again easily :(
Easier than from Canada
Not easy in a day but - train to Brussels, Eurostar to London ...
i literally started screaming when i saw miss Crocombe sipping from her tea cup.
I LOVE THIS WOMAN
I've been following English Heritage for quite some time since here (Isle of Man) I'm also part of a reenactment group in this case we are part of Manx Heritage :-) Isn't it amazing being transported to another era just like that? For me it's always sad when I have to get back to the real world :( Loved the video and no doubt that's a place I have to visit :-) TY Bernardette!!!
This is an unbelievable work! This lady has to live the roll she is playing every day. That is the ultimate acting job, a real piece of living ancient art.
I am totally fan-girling over here! I have loved Mrs. Crocombe forever and I adore that you visited her! :)
I have never been so jealous in my life. You are so lucky and it is so wonderful that it was you who got to go.
Love it! Great to see Hana again and the fact that you opened the vid with the theme music put a smile on my face. Great video and it's nice to see Audley End. Seeing it in person is definitely on my bucket list!
Hana? Japanese for "flower"?
I teach 'in character' when I do historical Demos at schools, and it's so much fun. You should try your hand at a short stint of History volunteering.
Actually I've discovered the lovely Mrs Crocombe by watching your videos an been absolutely in love with them ever since😊
She’s always shading Mary-Anne, even on her days off 😂
I love the hand knitted knitted kitchen cloths. And they’re so easy to make! 😃
It’s really awesome English Heritage uses their videos to inspire people rather than just copyright striking the crap out of people.
I've had to pause this video once every thirty seconds or so to giggle madly. Your excitement is infectious.
I can’t believe I’ve gotten to see Jas. Townsend and y’all collaborate w/ English Heritage! & now actually visiting across the pond, meeting in person!!! 🥰
Dreams do come true...
"This is a Bernadette Banner vlog, and we call everything trash' here."
That is surely a quote for the ages, my dear. I'm not certain why I'm so tickled by it, but I am!
Mrs Crocombe is icon living

Ahhh, so THAT'S what she means. I didn't quite get it either. I was like "What, the girls would just be staring at the footmen outside?" .... didn't realize if it meant *showering* or the such 😳
No ones talking about that moment enough haha!
SO delighted for you both to have met mrs. crocombe! As others have said here, I have followed her for quite some time and found the blending of my two favorite channels to be, quite simply, captivating. Thank you so very much, Bernadette, for a most professional yet personable peek into your stay.
I just fell down the rabbit hole of English Heritage.
There goes the rest of my night.
Thank you!
Omg it's 150am and I need to sleep when this came out. Gaaaah! I'll awake to a lovely video for morning coffee ❤
Bernadette is or was in the UK and I've never wanted a UA-camr to have or to have had a meet and greet more. Fangirling so hard. X
OMG am so jealous wish to meet Mrs.Crocombe ! Lucky you girls
I used to go to work in Cambridge from Audley End Train station every day fir 2 years. I lived in Saffron Walden, the town just up the road from Audley End Mansion.
I watched this again and your monologue about the importance of what they and you are doing literally almost made me cry. It was just beautiful.
So delightful! Thank you for taking us along ❤️
And yes, whenever I find myself in London again, I will make my merry way down to Audly End to meet The Legend herself.
I love you and Hannah and Mrs, Crocombe!
How lucky of you girls! Just found your channel and I'm in love with it! Thank you for existing!
Are you sure it was you squealing and not me because I was pretty loud? lol 😅
Was it Williamsburg that you went to in Virginia? I live in Virginia and actually lived in Williamsburg when I was in middle school. I was just thinking this past week I need to go and see the gardens 🌷💐🌹☺️ That's my favorite when I go is to actually walk through the gardens .
