The young lady from How To Renovate a Chateau (UA-cam) makes her own wall paper and has a degree in design. She may be able to help you with the designs on the paper. She lives in France with her family, is very sweet. Can't hurt to ask her for some help.
I’m so glad someone mentioned Anna. I thought about her instantly when Billy was taking apart the secret room and talking about preserving the wallpaper. I’m sure she would be able to help.
@@diamondperidotactually that was Edd and Anna who own Chateau La Gorce in Bordeaux who found the chandelier for Billy. Phillip and Anna who makes her own wallpaper and teaches people, live in Normandy. Confusing right?
Billy! You and your family should take a nice trip to Oahu Hawaii. You look like you need a great vacation. Head over to Waikiki and relax In the beautiful Hawaiian atmosphere and shopping there. Then try to get a reservation to a Friday luau event from any of the vendors. You have been working hard you should take a great vacation to paradise.
Yes! A dedicated archiving room at the convent!! You have barely touched the backyard area. Just think about the bits and bibs you will continue to find 😃 They also need a place to live. ❤
1thank you Michael for the wonderful tutorial on the wallpaper. I completely agree that a conservation room is needed. This way you won't have to take anything off site and perhaps subject it to inclement weather etc You'll be able to teach others some or all of what you've learned to preserve history.
If these patterns are no longer copyrighted perhaps they could be incorporated into a convent business offering the patterns as a custom order in varying color-ways. I could even imagine a fabric collection.
Copyright duration in France is 70 years. It would be great if the Pethericks would do a design on Spoonflower or partnership with some other wallpaper printing company so fans could buy the papers and they would get a portion of the sale.
That's what I was thinking! I hope they somehow can make these available to purchase with some of the proceeds going back to the convent. They are certainly all out of copyright by this point so they'd be free to sell them.
Remarkable. So glad Michael is keen to get them right. I can see your library, upper gallery filling up already. What an inspired idea that library was.
As an artist, I really enjoyed this exchange between, Michael and Billy. There just isn't enough appreciation of the old art and craft works in the world. So much of what we take for granted in our modern world, such as rolls of wallpapers, ceramic tiles or even the simple pencil are creations of a bygone age that we utilise in some form or other today.
Each member of the family (Sadie too) have acquired their own keen interests. It is so great when they have an idea, they share their thoughts with one another. Mom and Dad are great role models. Really shows through these young persons their work ethic and personalities............and the next generation..........little Archie helping with the vacuuming, getting ready for Grandpa's Birthday.
Oh Michael! You made my eyes leak when you played the organ. That hymn was my late mother's favorite & she requested that it be played at her funeral. It's also one of my favorites. Hopefully, one day you will take the time to play the whole piece. Thank you for playing for us today even if just for a little while. I look forward to seeing what can be done reproducing the wallpapers.
How wonderful that someone put this in a hidden place…down through the ages, these samples survived to be seen and reproduced for their beauty!!! How really exciting!!!❤❤
Michael is such a gifted and talented young man. I would love to see more of his videos. I really miss watching his videos and would love to see how his cottage has turned out and all.
All the wallpaper is stunning, but that last brown one would look amazing digitalized and recolored a soft yellow with the gold accents. Definitely be on a chateau bedroom wall for sure.
Cannot wait to see the conservation process💖 “Kinda-sorta” like the organ rebuild but different. I guess I’ll find it equally as fascinating. I’ve said it before, but I really enjoy seeing both the convent and the chateau. Crack On!
What a great Idea Billy, Michael could do a class - conservation is a life long learning experience and they could learn from him and he in turn might learn from them. They could do trips together to artisan places to learn even more. Not that your brother isn't busy enough with his cottage, green house, Chateau Kitchen, Decorating Chateau Bedrooms for guests, sealing the Terrace and making preparations for the Chapel Ceiling.. He might have time to teach a class or two if Mortimer behaves and doesn't have Michael in with the cows lol You are all so talented and a pleasure to watch!
I understood the preservation techniques that Michael was discussing very well because I had just finished watching several videos on the subject of conserving very badly damaged old painting. I look forward to seeing Billy in his new 'conservation room' and the results applied to various walls.
💕Once finished you could even sell the rolls of wallpaper to help fund your Convent & Chateau projects💕Or change the colours to make different coloured rolls of paper💕
The top blue old wallpaper is my favorite, and I’m so excited to see you guys replicate it and preserve it! It would be really cool to replicate it and then wallpaper each bedroom that you restore at the convent with it!! 😊❤
Idea-start the process of removing and rescuing the paper samples off the wood with the wallpaper example that is the largest-in case you find out Plan A doesn’t work as well as you hoped. Sorry if this is a “Duh” suggestion-and it probably is as you do know what you’re doing!
You know I think it's awesome every time I see Michael playing the organ... It keeps the beautiful organ alive to be played from time to time... I look forward to seeing the wallpapers getting reproduced... I rather like some of them... they are quite lovely.
Those old papers are amazing. I hope you can get reproductions of them all and put them in different rooms. I also hope you restore the bits and put them in the library display cases. I also think it would be absolutely fabulous for you to have a 'restoration' workshop with possibly more than one room and invite in artisans who do restoration work on other antiques as well. As for the antique wall papers, once you get a recreation going, there might be people who would be interested in buying samples or even enough to do full rooms. Those papers in the convent are fabulous!
Michael shied away, but Billy had a great idea. A large room in the convent built for Michael to teach others how to conserve the old wallpapers. Michael has a lot of knowledge he can share - he needs to share! - with others to help perpetuate the conservation of historic things. Many people want to do it but don’t know how to go about it and Michael is a wealth of information on many different historical topics. You are a very interesting person, Michael, and others would be lucky to learn from you.
Wow! To save paper created in the 17th century. What a blessing. I will look forward to seeing this evolve. What a blessing you are Michael- to actively share your inspiration and determination to preserve the past for the future. Thank you. 🙏❤️💜🐼
All of them are beautiful in their own way I hope all can be preserved and prints made aside from wallpapers. You could reproduce them as cards and sell them or prints sure enough people will buy including myself possibly depending on how they come out. Michael is so clever like you Billy can do anything you set your minds to all of you Pethericks are genius levels. So kind of you to do all of it most others might not. Who knows if you figured out where it comes from and manage to reproduce them as wallpapers it might come back on trend. All of them would look beautiful in your chateau rooms or convent guest rooms or WC :) Have a lovely weekend and glad you are taking a bit of a break after so much hard work on the library and chateau. 👌👌😍😍👏👏
As a complete history nerd, I enjoy hearing, seeing & learning through these vlogs. What a treat it would be to tour the convent and then take in a workshop hosted there. Don't panic, Michael... we'd go easy on you, 'cuz you're such a neat guy 😁
It’s so exciting to think in the future the convent owners will be able to trace all the work you’ve carried out. Even to wall papers that were there long before the Pethericks began their mission to rescue the building. Wonderful. ❤❤👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
Feels like Michael probably watched Baumgartner's restauration channel (he works with paintings most of the time but washi kozo is one of his favorite tool top preserve old paintings and Michael perfectly described his restauration process). I can definitely recommend asking Julian at Baumgartner Fine Arts (he’s got a youtube channel, which others have probably mentioned, fabulous conservator) if you have any questions about methods for cleaning/saving that wallpaper.
