Charlie Williams - The best of the Comedians

- Charlie Williams footage is rare so i have managed to piece together everything from the comedians collection (the published dvd's of course). I assume the BBC will never fully publish the original full series', so the remainder of Barnsley's greatest comedian's humour will be lost to the unviewable archives forever. Enjoy what i have found.
I was on holiday in Skegness in 77 and I wanted some cockles. So my dad took me to the seafood seller near the pier and Charlie was inside the stall talking to the owner. He asked me what I wanted and I said some cockles please. My dad then said “a small tub of cockles”. Charlie looked at my dad and said “Buy im a bigun fatha, buy im a bigun.”. It was the only time I ever had a big tub of cockles on holiday. And to this day I remember it fondly now my dad is no longer here and Charlie will always be my favourite comedian ever. I always have a little laugh every time I buy cockles at the seaside as I buy a big tub.
Take a bow Charlie an absolute legend, how today's generation could learn from this. Genuine Barnsley man, my hero!
My hero too. My how much do we need him now.
I miss his comedy; being raised on 'the Comedians' my generation have a more defined perspective. What we're STILL failing to realise is that it's NOT about, Jew, Muslim, Black or White; its about haves and have nots the former have been 'sticking it' to the latter for centuries.
He had everything timing delivery and great material an outstanding talent one of the worlds comedy greats.
Agree 100%!
And that fabulous accent / dialect born pre-war etc a period piece and a half brilliant !
Watching this makes you feel how far we've gone back.
Charlie did more for race relations in Britain than anybody else I can think of. A really genuine and lovely guy. Loved by everybody and sorely missed. RIP, Charlie.
I lived 2 doors away from Charlie in South Hiendley and went with him to many of his club performances. He was a lovely chap, genuinely funny and a gentleman.
As a sheffielder born in 65 listening to Charlie in the 70’s was fantastic ! He has a true Yorkshire accent - it’s like silk for the ears. RIP
I loved Charlie! He was the best of British! He embodied everything that embraced this Yorkshire gentleman in British society 😁💙🇬🇧
God bless Charlie. I'm a Derbyshire man but I loved Charlie's comedy and his salt of the earth Barnsley accent. He was an absolutely brilliant comic and a lovely man.
Hes brilliant, the fact he can add the yorkshire puns in to his gags, genius
A beautiful man. A Gentleman. I loved him when I was a kid. Thank god we have archive footage.
Hope you are okay Charlie, wherever you are mate.

As a child, he always caught my attention. He was funny, had an infectious smile, and I just plain liked him. Turns out he was a really decent fellow.
It's a pity there aren't any more like Charlie. How we could do with more people like him. He could teach our youngsters of today some humility and good manners.
charlie wouldnt be allowed these days
someone would be triggered
Now this is real comedy, brilliant. Charle Willliams great comic and footballer.
They say 'The old one's were the best'...well, it's true. Charlie was fab, a great face made for comedy and a superb delivery. Comedy at its best.
What an absolutely lovely man.
But not funny
Your part of the problem....snowflake, woke, ya pathetic!
One of the best it's a pity all the old comedians are slowly dying out , I grew up being entertained by all the best ! Thank you all , god bless 👍
Wonderful that genuine class acts like Charlie can laugh at themselves as well as delivering first class comedy for us all.
A lesson for us to lighten up a little bit.
Thank you for putting this compilation together of Charlie's life and thoughts. A true Yorkshire Gentleman!
God bless you and R.I.P. Charlie.
He should be held up today as an example of successful assimilation into British culture. He could teach most of us about British humour.
Charlie was a national treasure .
how's he assimilated? he's from Barnsley not Botswana you melt
Absolutely. On top of that, he was a very down to earth type and should be used to teach modern day immigrants how to behave in a guest country.
Went to one of his shows when he appeared locally. He was so funny. We thoroughly enjoyed watching him. He even took the mickey out of himself about his colour. He took the mickey out of my brother-in -law when he came back from the toilet and everyone including my brother-in-law was in stitches. He was a brilliant comedian 😂😂😂
@@steviem8466how to behave lol.
That's the problem with racism you can't see that you are.
You see Charlie as a black man teaching the rules to foreigners.
When he's an English man and never was anything else, he didn't come here he was born here.
He isn't an example of anything other than any other white English person with a slight connection to those of other colour
Gone but not forgotten rest in peace Charlie 😁😎😉🇬🇧
Brilliant.. as a Yorkshire man myself born 72 this is roots ... fantastic clean comedy one a theee best was Charlie x
He was great but growing up in Barnsley, he was one of us. Just loved him. Great humour.
I bet ya Charlie wouldn't of put up with all the rubbish going on these days.
Use to watch him as a kid, and when he laughed there was nothing else for it, you had to laugh along with him.
Thanks Charlie for all your wonderful jokes but most of all, for being you.
Charlie Williams could tell jokes that are still funny today, unlike many comedians now who seem to be conducting their own therapy sessions in public.
😂 One of my all time favourite comidiens growing up watching the comedians
This guy when I was a kid ? Funny,clean , honest! Loved him. ❤️❤️❤️
My mum and step dad took us on holiday to Blackpool and we went to see Charlie williams, sat in the front row and Charlie walked along and stopped and asked my sisters name, she said linda.. i think she was maybe 6 years of age but always looked younger. They had a little chat. Made our holiday! A few years later, maybe 3 or 4? Charlie was in Blackpool again so my step dad booked us front row seats again, he was strolling along the the stage and paused his joke.. said aye up linda ya alright. Nice to see ya.. honestly blew us away that he'd remembered her! She only lived til she was 30 and its one of my most favourite memories
Loved ya Charlie, the cheeky grin and the Yorkshire accent!
Charlie was a good clever and honest man.
Met Charlie a few times, such a nice man
I absolutely love the old comedians. Every single one of them did his best (sometimes her best) to entertain the whole nation. Some funnier than the rest, but they all contributed whole heartedly. Bless them all. You'll never be forgotten.
My dad was a club singer and he was at a club in Barnsley and Charlie Williams was sat at side of stage when my dad was singing
Love it,bet he was a really genuine down to earth bloke ,loving the homour
His dad was a very smart man ,and seems a very nice man
Comedy genius.
And a lovely Barnsley accent.
An absolute legend this man was 👏.
Thank you for your efforts!! Williams is a gem in British comedy! Plus, I'm learning to understand that Barnsley accent of his!
Lovely, Lovely, man. So funny and genuine. The world is a sadder place without him. His dad cracked me as well!
Best comedian I have ever seen.
I loved watching the comedians. Must have been about 12/13. Charlie was my favorite. A lovely smile and such an infectious laugh. One of the greats. Some of todays so called comedians could learn a lot.
Just came across this. It brings back so many memories of my Grandy. He was a pit deputy and Charlie worked under him. His father did too. He was called big Al. Donny, my mums birth town.
Worlds most infectious laugh. I miss the good old days.
Absolutely loved him as Compere of The GOLDEN SHOT.
Lovely fella 👍 🇬🇧
Legend thanks for sharing
Your one of best charlie god bless you
RIP god bless him and his dad
My dad loved him my dad was from cudworth I use to laugh at my dad laughing at Charlie Williams great man x
Thanks for putting clip together and posting ❤❤❤❤
That Yorkshire twang is amazing 👍
It's actually a Barnsley twang, yes it's in South Yorkshire but their accent is nothing like Sheffield (deedah), Rotherham or Doncaster, considering Barnsley is no more than 14 miles from these 3 places, God knows how it came about ! Sadly, as the older ones are dying off, the accent seems a little more diluted, it's still South Yorkshire but, like the Deedah dialect, wen, 4 generations down the line have gone, I'm afraid we shan't hear the same strong dialect 😟 All we can do now is listen n laff along to one of Barnsley's favourite sons. God Bless u Charlie
Just luv his dad's dialect, my dad was a mixture of Yorkshire/North West Walian, n to hear his dad, it's beautiful!!
I will never tire of the joke about the American doctor.
Legend! Lovely man
A lovely man RIP charlie
A beautiful gentleman ❤️
Thanks for this. Love Charlie Williams.
A refreshing and vibrant innovator, Charlie was a important and exemplary comedian, often a male cheerleader for black people, not to say a flawless and sharp mainstream act.More significantly, he was better than Big Nasty, Will Smith and Lenny Henry, those bland imitators.
I'd been told he was fast but a 10.1 second man. Wow. Impressive. And genuine man.
Lovely.
As a ten year old child i was always allowed to watch Charlie Williams with my parents..he was always safe and he did more for positive race relations than any politician. My black friends at school where friends, friends you called on at the weekend in the hope their parents had some food on the go...because you knew the arromatic food you could smell when you where knocking on the front door is soon going to be presented in a dish and your going to eat like a king.
Happy times in poor Times.
I remember seeing Charlie play for Doncaster Rovers.
What a character his uncle was!
Do tell?
When ever anyone says to me the ultimate Barnsley Man it's always Charlie Williams 🥲🙌
You did a great job and thank you.
Loved the pieces with Charlie’s dad. Both no longer with us. Love hearing the Yorkshire accent. “Tha can’t buy class!”

Colour of a person is not the problem today, it's Christianity versus Islam, and Islam is winning.
