    Great guide mate, quick and precise. I didnt think to look at the EV value changing while holding the ND filters over the camera, will save a bit of time in the field. Do you usually aim to bring EV down to zero or close to it while picking the ND filter?

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  Рік тому +4

      O is a perfect goal, but kinda have to see what 0 means at the given scene. Lets say fix ISO at 100. In the open on a bright day and sky was priority (Eg.1 scenic sunset landscape shots), then id need to make sure that sky was not overexposed and play it safe with a -0.3 to -0.7 final exposure at that given scene. I could always raise the shadows (subjects or environment) in post slightly. But if the subject was key (Eg.2 scene of a moving car), then with the subject in frame id look to an exposure of 0 to +0.7 to keep subject in good exposure without caring too much for the landscape lighting. If wanting both, then id choose to make subject in good exposure. In the frame with lighting directly on the subject, get EV0 to +0.3. ISO set at an Auto range. This is especially for Golden Hours where u may have the light coming from behind the subject and cause the subject to be a dark silhouette, the auto ISO will keep the subject well exposed at the expense of the sunset. If you rather keep the sunset and dont mind the silhouette, then Eg.1 setting is best. Kinda trial and error these few settings to see what works best before you take on projects. Timings to aim are not only Golden Hours but also tough lighting like midday light. Hope this helps. Would make an episode on this in the near future.

    Really great video! What was your camera angle? You flew very fast but when you landed it looked like the angle wasn't very huge

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  Рік тому +1

      I flew at 25deg, with a Wide FOV setting, which makes for manageable perspectives. There will be more squeezed in not only sideways but vertically, so this doesn't make the camera angle look severely high. This is at the cost of image distortion, but i prefer that for dynamic flying. A de-warped is not preferred for this case as i will leave that if a normal and natural perspective is priority. By the way, i usually fly my DJI FPV at 25deg too. Big camera angle changes will require the pilot to relearn flying, as control dynamics will change. For example if i go to 50deg cam angle, more throttle is required to maintain flight, yaw is lesser needed to steer but instead you will use more roll to go left and right. Go high and try this, its a different feel.

    Hi Rahim.. great episode.. thanks for the Info, I did not think at looking at EV when choosing filters.. 👍
    Question. I was flying this morning, sitting in the other green field behind you. I was chased away by Marina Barrage security people. Seems that that patch of grass belongs to MB, and is a no fly zone.. the bigger one you flew over is LTA and can fly there.
    Can you make a video with spots where we can fly without being chased away? With links in Google maps for easy reference?

    • @TheReelRahim

      Not necessary if you dont mind just a simple shot. But if you want a specific creative shot like fast shutter where you can see every single splash of water from the surfer on the wave, or you want light long motion blur streaks from passing boats, then thats were you will need the filter off in order to achieve the specific camera setting that you are going for.

      To be honest, you'll want them all! ND8, ND16, ND32, and ND64 if you're in extreme location (ie: dune/desert).. And use UV if gets dark (ie: dawn/dusk).
      Official DJI Avata filter kit comes with ND8/16/32. Freewell set comes with extra (I believe ND64).

    • @TheReelRahim

      Okok, lets say I had to get only 1, id go with either ND 16 or 32. Most times, especially strong golden hours, i find myself using 32 more than 16. If it gets dark on 32, then i would bump the ISO up just a bit up to ISO1600. Anymore and image would get too noisy. By then if it gets dark, I would then remove the ND totally, bring ISO back down and still would have good exposure settings to work with. Hope that helps.

    Sir what is the difference between polarised and UV filer? which is good for Avata?

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  Рік тому +1

      Sorry took me awhile. UV filter would generally block Ultra Violet rays to give you a cleaner image but not so noticeable for modern day digital sensors of the camera. It was for film cameras. So this UV filter in modern day is used more as a protective layer for the actual glass of the drone's camera. Iv flown in dusty conditions and glad that im cleaning the fine sand off a filter versus on the lens itself. Polariser does a different job, and it is to reduce glare and reflections on the water. This is a very conditional filter though as different times of day would yield different outcomes. Overall it would output an image that has higher contrast of lights and darks. For protection only, go for UV filter. For a stronger image and also protection, get the polariser.

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  Рік тому +1

      Im sorry, im not familiar with this as i myself am not on FCC setup, and dont do the hacks that others have mentioned. Also, I think the FCC hack is only on DJI FPV and not available on the Avata yet.

    • @jukkasyrjanen
      @jukkasyrjanen Рік тому +1

      If you are interested, I have a clue how the FCC DJI Fly app may work: when I got my Avata, unpacked it and connected it for the _very_ first time, using FCC FJI Fly app, registered and paired: I got a message in goggles "Country code not updated". This error message disappeared only when I connected my Avata once to the normal DJI Fly App. After that I haven't seen the message.
      So, my guess is that the FCC DJI Fly app somehow blocks the sending of a "country code" (whatever it is?!) to drone and the drone then uses FCC mode as default. And you can verify the FCC vs. CE easily (i.e. FCC DJI Fly app vs. the normal app) by flying far enough and checking signal strength. But like I said, you have to fly high, and that is no fun in a long run.

    What to do with white balance keep it on auto?

    • @TheReelRahim
      @TheReelRahim  Рік тому +1

      Personally, it depends on what the scene is. If lets say im in ever changing environments, Auto works great. Like if im flying outside during sunset and then fly in the shade all in one scene, auto is preferred. But if environment is consistent, then locking it manually in a specific colour temperature is ideal. I shoot weddings too, and this is where iv learned to use Auto for situations where im outdoor and then have a continuous shot to indoor. But if im only shooting in Either outdoor OR indoor, then i'd lock in a manual colour temp.
