Mr. Cassidy, you have been a huge part of my life for close to 50 years. My parents owned a music store and I was able to hear your records before the local DJ would come in and buy them. Your voice is absolutely beautiful. More than that your songs have touched every part of my life. No matter what circumstances I was facing in, you had created a song I could relate to. Now I am 61 years old and your songs ring as true as ever. My Administrative Assistant died a few years back. Much too young (cancer). She looked at the world through the eyes of love. I still listen to "Looking Through the Eyes of Love" and remember the beautiful person God allowed me to have in my life for 17 years. If our world today would stop and listen to those words, maybe we could all rejoice as brothers and sisters. Thank you for helping me through my ups and downs in life. Rest in Peace Mr. Cassidy. You are truly missed but will never be forgotten.
Never heard this but its a great cover he really made it his own. His voice was just so unique he always put a lot of feeling into his songs I wish he could have found someone to love and care for him
Stunning man with such talent . A great loss to the entertainment industry and will not be forgotten ..So sad he couldn't get on top of his addictions and find peace ,happiness and love . See ya in the next life .xo
Gorgeous guitar solo in this song...... "Your name and mine inside a heart upon a wall, Still finds a way to haunt me, though they're so small..." ....haunting,beautiful.
I was saddened yesterday to hear that David had passed away. He was such a part of my teenage years. I was such a Fan, and was always interested in what was going on in his career. Alcohol can be a ruination of a person's life.
It has the same effect on me. For me, i think it's because it shows so clearly, the stunning quality of his voice, his talent..... but most of the world never heard it, because, after he withdrew at the height of his initial superstardom, the industry never allowed him to achieve any kind of notoriety again. This song released in 2003, on the album which was to accompany the relaunch of his career. But it was derailed before he had an actual chance, to "come back"because his record label mysteriously went out of business within three days of the release of the first single on the albun The scheduled tour, promotion, ads, media bookings, all the things that are necessary to successfully release an album and relaunch his music career, were completely derailed. Even without any of those things, the single still charted!
What really impressed me, Steve Martin Caro, the original singer, always looked for me a lot like a young David Cassify (he was only 16). I love that song so much. But in this case I have to say: Left Banke did it best. It was their song, Renee in reality belonged to one member, while an other could not get her and wrote this. They all knew her, she was with them in the record studio and everywhere. Nobody could do it like them, and nobody was so heartbreaking touching like little Stevie Martin.
I think most people associate it with the ending of David and Kay's marriage. It had nothing to do with that, just a remake of a great song. David could sing ANY song and it would sound better than the original artist' version.
@@deborahthomas4687 I respectfully disagree. The Left Banker version is both sweet and sad. The vocals seem unforced on the original and the music transports one. This one is a good effort.
David's cover of this classic is sublime. David is one of those rare singers that could do a cover of a really famous song and make it his own, but still keep the melody and original mood of the song intact, so that one listening, recognized it.

I was shocked at how hard hearted he was toward his own daughter Katie. He ignored her and said something to the effect of “ I didn’t HAVE to raise her”. Geez. That was pretty low.
@@lisamarielund6292 Not sure whether you heard it wrong or whether you're paraphrasing badly, but what he said was, "I've never had a relationship with her. I wasn't her father.
