What a cold, forced handshake Jack gave David when he came out, yet he hugged his kids, with Shirley Jones You can clearly see Shirley adored David! I don't understand a parent being jealous of their own child's success. I feel that had an effect on David his whole life. So sad , I'm glad he's at peace now
I heard a radio interview on Facebook where David Cassidy talks about his father . . . it was around 2015. He actually started breaking down during the interview when he talked about his father not being there for anything. He wasn't there for any plays he was in, any of his little league games, nothing. All the other kids father's would be there, but his Dad never showed up. I was surprised that after so many years, he would get so emotional, but he did. David loved him and idolized him. His father just wasn't able to give him what he needed. He had his own issues I guess.
You sometimes I think David Cassidy instinctively knew he wasn't going to be around and live a long life. Someone had indicated that perhaps he got emotional in that interview because he was starting to look back on his life as he knew was wasn't going to be around. He even said at his birthday party (2011 I think), -- he was making a speech and he wanted to thank everyone who was there and said something like, "I may not have this opportunity again, and then he said, "maybe I will, but who knows what could happen in the next ten years." I found that so odd that he would say that . . . he wasn't that old . . . why would he say who knows what could happen in the next 10 years? And guess what -- he sadly didn't make it. Some people just know when their time is coming. I wish he was still here though. He could have lived another 20 years, maybe longer if he took better care of himself. I don't blame him though, because addiction is a extremely difficult thing to overcome.
LuvTadnDixie Wow. How sad. Painful stuff from childhood haunted David his whole life. Whose to say any of us would of handled it any better. RIP David Cassidy

I love the styles, the mannerism and class of these people. Notice how Jack Cassidy rises every time a lady leaves the stage even if she is there for only a minute or two. Wouldn't be be better off if we all practiced the simple courtesies these people display here?
Jack Cassidy was a narcissist. He could not stand his son's success. What a pathetic person. He was the reason David suffered his whole life, always trying to please his father. Clever...!!!
Hahaha!😊✈
Look how Shirley looks at Jack with absolute adoration, so cute to see. She worshiped him, despite his demons.
that's a rude word to use
@@dfangirl72 what is?
He was a very lucky man
From what I hear, she worshiped him on her knees with a dog collar around her neck. Just saying, I heard they were very kinky.
So TRUE! So sad that Jack died in that fire in 1977! Read he was an alcoholic-- which hid son David was too!
Yes i agree with u totally he damaged David so much i hope David is at peace now sorry but couldn't care less about his Father he was a,Monster he had a beautiful kind and talented son in David and he threw it all away he was a disgusting excuse for a Father Rip David yr so missed
Look how cute David Cassidy is!
Wow somehow I didn't expect everything about this to be so genuine; that was a real treat. I wonder if Shirley treasures this footage as much as I imagine. It must've been overwhelming.
Richard Rogers giving his best wishes to Shirley was so wonderful! Shirley did fabulous singing and acting in Oklahoma, and The Music Man. I loved her in Carousel but my favorite was Oklahoma. Thank you for posting!

Shirley Jones is pure elegance...a very sweet bit of television.
David Cassidy has his dad's eyes smile a dimples
Sandra Miller thank god david was nothing like his father
But David actually looked just like his mom!! If you see pictures of her you can see the resemblance.
Natalie Deshow I agree he looks a lot like his mom
His father had ugly eyes he had his mother's eyes. You are sooooooooooo wrong.
@@grahamharvey3159 oh they had their similarities. Both were alcoholics. The only thing that was difference was David was far more successful than his dad and David's father could not stand it.
She is such a Beautiful women, I feel her warmth & kindness, I love her smiles.
Brings back memories. I was 17 and in a couple of months graduating High School. I was there, the US. and everything and everybody was so Anglo, except for
José Jiménez, AKA Bill Dana. It's all
gone but not forgotten! Loved it!
+Thomas McNichols its a completely different country nowadays, like nothing good is left
OMG, she was (is) so beautiful!
It's nice she had such a great talent and that people believed in her and helped her to succeed
Shirley was so genuinely happy to see everyone. Richard Rodgers tribute was quite moving. It’s 2024 and it’s wonderful she is still here celebrating birthdays.
i always loved her...she is so beautiful!!!!! so kind!!!
This gal had class. She also had real talent.
She was also incredibly hot, even in her 30s and 40s, freaking stunning
krahung Hell yes! She was absolutely gorgeous. My god, I crushed on he so hard back in the day. I believe she was among my first, prepubescent crushes. (along with Princess Leia)
A lot of guys who watched The Partridge Family had a crush on Susan Dey, but maybe those were mostly boys under the age of 14. You don't hear much about the teen guys ( and older guys) who had a crush on Shirley Jones. But also there might have been some female fans of The Partridge Family who had a crush on Dave Madden rather than David Cassidy.
Isn't it possible that she still has class and talent?
She's..83,,and..hot..
I love the styles, the mannerism and class of these people. Notice how Jack Cassidy rises every time a lady leaves the stage even if she is there for only a minute or two. Wouldn't be be better off if we all practiced the simple courtesies these people display here?
Jack had a lot of issues, but at least he was a gentleman
Yes you don't see that kind of stuff anymore. Sad.
@@monilaninetynine3811he was a narcissistic ass. Only manners when the camera was on
Shirley Jones is 100% talent, with class to spare! What a gracious lady.
Hello how're you doing?
i had a crush on her as a boy and had her albums, knew all the music, went to see all her movies...she's the best.
Hello sir, how're you doing?
Jack Cassidy was a narcissist. He could not stand his son's success. What a pathetic person. He was the reason David suffered his whole life, always trying to please his father. Jack was a miserable excuse for a human being. David was a kind, compassionate and loving man. So sad how his life ended. Gone but always loved and never forgotten.❤️❤️
Jack had bipolar disorder and was an alcoholic, what kind of father did you expect he would be?
@@nataliedeshow768 I can see why Shirley Jones ended divorcing him. She filed for divorce from Marty Ingalls twice only for them to reconcile both times.
That is so sad. If I were Jack Cassidy, I would be a very proud parent, not jealous.
@@Farrah300 I had a boyfriend who was an alcoholic. I was with him for seven years and all I can say is NEVER again!! Thank God I wasn’t married to him and didn’t have kids with him!! Poor Shirley, she has my sympathies!! Add mental illness to the mix and it’s even a bigger mess!!
@@Farrah300 yes, sadly I think he was very jealous of David’s success as he thought it should have been him. Instead of being happy for him, he was jealous. They never had a close relationship.
What a wonderful program. There was also a UK, and here, Australian version of TIYL. Back then it was an era when artists' talent and contribution to the industry was recognized and acknowledged with shows like this. Sadly, television isn't like this anymore.
So sweet. Loved her always.
I always believed Shirley Jones was a good step mom to her loving step son David Cassidy a stood by him loved him a did her best to help him thru all his up bringing a hardships I believe she loved a admired his talent
Yes you can tell she loved all her boys and accepted David as her own. That's why David Cassidy was so loving and such a gentleman. He was so good to his fans. Im sorry he had to suffer w the disease of alcoholism but I think the family was always close. He probably did have a complicated relationship w his dad but stardom can ruin lives too.
@@frannyfaye2683 Someone should have staged an intervention for David to stop drinking. With all his fame and amazing good looks....not to mention his talent....nothing seemed to give him peace of mind or whatever one needs to take control of their life. Even his wives couldn't get him to stop.
David looked sooo much like his father. Jack seemed to be jealous of David.
What a beautiful lady. She sure married down with Jack. She outshone him by a country mile.
As they say you can lead a horse to water, but can't make it drink. David mentioned being in recovery on a talk show back in 2013 I believe. I am assuming family and friends tried, but it wss really up to him. I was shocked he damaged his organs like that. That wss some drinking he did.
All step moms should follow her example. Losing someone you love at her age is rough.
She was such a beautiful woman inside and out. This is so cool thank u.😊
so sad Shirley lost her step son David Cassidy on November 21, 2017. RIP David
@Toni Wilson Shirley Jones’ stepson David is alive as of April 7, 2021. Google leads to details about that.
@@kathrynfauble9053 what do u mean?
@@kathrynfauble9053 No... David died four years ago this coming November
She is a strong lady. Marty died a few years before David did. In addition she lost two costars. Ralph seemed like a big fan of the Partridge Family. Since her mom died when she was a little girl, Shirley was like a second mom to Susan as well.
What Class! In spite of all the stories throughout the years about Jack Cassidy….He did have that gentleman quality that you just don’t see anymore! I remember my Grandfather had that. Genuine Class and Respect!
He was very talented. If you don't think so, watch 'the MR.MAGOO Xmas Special'. He voiced the dad in that, and it's a CLASSIC!
Class. Talent. Loved these shows! Great good ol' days!
Hi how're you doing?
Shirley Jones sang a duet with Frank Sinatra on his 1959 Timex special. Wow a beautiful song and her singing was divine.
R.I.P. David Cassidy
Shirley Jones is just so beautiful and talented!!
Back when movie stars really did shine. Ms. Jones is an American Treasure
What a talented bunch. Shirley Jones just oozes class.
Shirley Jones was one of my clients and she is a lady!
You were her agent?

I love Shirley Jones she is my favorite TV mom of the 70,s
What a lovely lady! Thank you for sharing this with us!!! Love ya, Shirley ❤️
Shirley Jones always A Class Act😍
Like so many young girls in the early 70s we crushed on David big!!!
I was grateful to see him back in 2012 he did his last free concert at a park on Long Island about 3wks before I moved away.
RIP David God called you home.
Shirley was and is a lovely woman. She's 85 as of this writing (March 2020), still performing. She lost 2nd husband Marty Ingels in 2015. First husband Jack Cassidy died in a house fire in 1976, two years after he and Shirley divorced. He was only 49.
Jack Cassidy started the fire when, after coming home from a party, he drunkenly fell asleep on the living room couch with a lit cigarette.
Ms. Jones is an absolutely wonderful woman and so beautiful and talented…a real one of a kind. I only knew her from The Partridge Family given my age and generation, but I’ll never forget my Dad saying how much he liked her (years ago). And then I saw some of her movies from the 50’s and was just stunned at her beauty and talent. God Bless Shirley Jones and all the joy she has brought to so many. ❤️
I believe Shirley Jones has a good a kind soul. she's a beautiful lady.
My father, who had a radio show in San Francisco back in the day, interviewed Nanette Fabray and was enchanted by her. Normally celebrities didn't impress him all that much, but he talked about her for years afterwards, how delightful she was.
What a loving couple Shirley Jones and Jack Cassidy are, it's just very sad how things turned out later and also with the tragic death of Jack Cassidy. I only ever saw him in episodes of Columbo and i never forgot him. Thank you for uploading x
(xPSSx)
He was such a villain during a couple of Columbo episodes and then the bad guy in the movie "The Eiger Sanction" (1975)
DonLicuala He had Bipolar Disorder.... Just wanted to share that
Saralyn Acton Thank you for telling me, i didn't know about that.
(xPSSx)
I read her saying that he was actually Shcitzo.
How. Did. Jack. Die?
Shirley is a Beautiful Talent.✨
Just a handshake from his father Jack .His father could never come to terms with his sons popularity .David may still be around today if his father would have given him a few hugs.
Absolutely well-put. Then again, Jack's character in general was too narcissistic to give genuine praise or love.
Even Shirley’s success surpassed Jack’s
Sad to think how Jack died in December 1976 in that fire
Yep totally agree with u i hated the way he treated David i was very lucky i had the most amazing and loving Dad in the world wish with all my heart that David could have said that maybe his life would have been diff and we wouldn't be missing him today never Ever liked Jack Cassidy
Oh my. They were so wonderful. Great times nobody like them now
I LOVE DAVID CASSIDY
DC should be in the hall of fame!
Shirley. a belated Happy Birthday. You are beautiful and so gifted. The timing of the Partridge Family was perfect for me growing up, being a musician myself.
I love these old shows so enjoyable to watch
These were the good days ..why can't girls be like this lady so beautiful inside
Oh my god around 1973 remember watching this on channel 9 in new york and just watched it know what happened to this world the clothes the decency these people had god please help us
I also remember watching it in New York around that time.
This is so amazing to see, I love seeing her mom and neighbors, so great, she is beautiful and so down to earth and sweet..😘
Hello how're you doing?
Great Show. Always thought Shirley was very beautiful
She has aged so beautifully and nothing fake.
this is such a wonderful video, and gets more value with each passing day, TYVM
They don't make TV like this anymore. Love those sets, music ! Love this show ! I was born in 1970 so I never saw it's original run.
I was born in 1960 and just saw this today in 2021! Oh the then glory days of Hollywood!
Hello beautiful
I was 3. Grew up with the reruns as well.
quite possibly the most beautiful lady ever, inside as well as out.
& still gorgeous as hell
I’ve loved her all my life and astonished more people are not as in awe of her greatness as I have always been!!! She is one of the truly great singers / performers, ever!!! ❤️🙌👏🏻💐🌹
shes been my musical crush since i was little. huge talent
She's absolutely beautiful here inside and out
She is so humble and grateful. She is lucky to have this with these people in it. She got really excited with her first agent. When people respected each other and put others before themselves it seems. She is 87 now.
She is wonderful in anything she does. These women remind me of my Mom and her friends. They truly enjoyed people.
(sigh) God Bless them all. What a blast from the past to see them all so young and full of life.
We lost little Susan K. when she was an adult from a heart condition and lost Shirley's husband Jack under tragic circumstances and now as of 2017 David is battling early stages of Dementia that claimed his own mother, Jack Cassidy's first wife whom was also an actress.
Things got worse for David.
It wasn’t dementia, David admitted that he was just drunk again.
It was alcohol induced dementia caused by liver failure. Frank Sinatra died of the same cause..
Ive always loved shirley so much.
Shes a class act all the way. I adore her like all ov us ❤
thank you very much for posting this , its really exciting and wonderful, i love this video very much, to see every one so happy and to see David and his brothers that little is amazing thanks
