- In this video I will do my best to explain about code 42 on OBD1 GM vehicles, that relates to the electronic spark timing on your vehicle. Most commonly related to the ICM. Hope this helps somewhat

Dealing with that code now. Car runs fine. But, I do not trust it because of that code.
Thank you so much for the info
A guy in the group was saying that the 9th gen bonnevilles icm was a better option, I have yet to try it on my bonne.
I wouldn't believe that they are compatible with one another since this isnt even a series 1. But ive never tried i suppose. Would probably have to change ECM as well tho
And I got my Hayne's manual at Autozone they just had it in stock. Goes up to 2005 the last year they made them.
@@caayydenn hmm maybe check how the 9th gen utilizes the icm compared to the 8th.
Hello I don’t speak English, please you can send the diagrams of the car:( pls
Buy a Hayne's Manual. You will learn lots. I cannot post a diagram unless I make another video for it.
So I got a code 27 28 29 31 41 car runs fine reset car still comes back on thinking map sensor maybe can’t find it on car
This 3800 doesn't have a map sensor. Only MAF, IAT, TPS and IAC. I would definitely start with the code 41 as I believe that is for the camshaft position sensor. However, a stretched timing chain will throw that code and can potentially cause other issues. Can also happen if the magnet in the cam gear breaks or falls out. Easy to check by removing the sensor and spinning the engine and see if it is visible. The other codes I cant remember off the top of my head. I'm at work and my book of codes is at home.
WOW! Am I seeing 326K on the odometer?
Correct. Now sits at over 333K.
The 3800 V6 is one of the best engines ever made.
@@caayydenn That is very encouraging! We have owned several 3800 V6's, and currently own a 93 Park Ave Ultra, with mileage that cannot be verified as accurate; so you can see why I said it is encouraging to know that you have taken it to that level.
meh. ICM? meh. love me some OBD 1 troubleshooting. shit's awesome. unrelated: i love this era bonneville. very beautiful! and that goddamn gauge cluster look at it. ALL THOSE GAUGES! You're so lucky. If GM hadn't slammed a FWD drivetrain in this penguin i'd rock it on a daily
The Bonneville as of now is retired as a driver and is now a parts car for my Olds 98. Kept a lot of trim and of course the full functioning gauge cluster!
@caayydenn do you have an vapor canister for sale?
Where is the pcv valve
On this style 3800 V6 its less a valve and more of just a tube. Comes out of the top of the front valve cover and goes into the throttle body.
