CV Axle Replacement on my Oldsmobile 98 Regency
Replacing the CV Axle on my 1990 Oldsmobile 98. Applies to any other car of the same chassis and pretty much the same setup for most FWD GM cars. Constructive criticism is welcome if you have a better way to do it. Thanks for viewing.

Notes are in video. And before I get a bunch of bs comments about "left lane camping". First of all, it's not a highway, it's a city street. 2nd, there's a right lane closer ahead due to construction, which is why the cop did what he did instead of getting behind me where there was no one and I was already slightly speeding... I'm only annoyed because I KNOW my ass would get lit up doing that m...

Cooling Fan Diagnosis and Repair 1990 Olds 98

In this video, I'll show how I diagnosed my faulty cooling fan motor on my 1990 Oldsmobile 98 Regency Brougham. Be careful when messing with electrical. Jumping alligator clips from the battery to the fan motor burned my finger tips due to a short in the motor. I repaired the fusible link with an in-line fuse holder from Walmart, using a 25 amp fuse. Hope this helps.

BEST Way to Remove GM Steering Column Pivot Pins & Why
Oldsmobile 98!
Been looking for this thank u
Common issues with the engines are Camshaft Sensor malfunctioning and ICM going bad. And the brake line (90°) just before the fuel filter rusting out and failing... The brake line fails after about 20 years.
2024: Wow! Finally a video for the pre-1992 3.8L engine!!! Original ICM for my 1991 Delta 88... I guess I got my monies worth from it! * Great and informative video! A shop wanted minimum 1 hr labor because it's a car older than 15 years old... $150 to repace this! Add in the cost of their ICM and it quickly turned into a $350 repair! I found on on Amazon (same one from Advanced) for $90... If it works out, I'll be needing another one for the 1989 Delta 88.
When u purchase a new engine control module, it comes with a white paiste that u smear on the ecm & u smear it on top of the ecm where the coil packs sit. I believe it is a heat dissapator. If you get that white paist, maybe the ecm will last longer?

You're supposed to use a torque wrench when tightening an axle nut, not a impact wrench, not a breaker bar.
@gregsmith332 You are totally correct, but many watching this are not gonna have the expensive torque wrench that goes to that high of a setting. Sometimes you just have to use what you have available.
@@caayydenn A 50-250 ft-lb torque wrench can cost as little as $40.
@gregsmith332 I'd like it to work more than once so a $40 torque wrench doesn't cut it. Try closer to $150 for a decent one. My one that goes up to only 100 ft lbs cost $65.
My wife was driving when the motor started making noise and wouldnt accelerate. When i raised the hood, the motor is rocking back and forth really hard. Had plugs, wires and coil changed and it made no difference.
Yeah you're definitely misfiring super hard then. Gotta get it scanned and go through the diagnosis. A bad MAP sensor can also make the car run like garbage.
@@caayydenn we had a guy use a portable one. Got the 0300 (multiple cylinder misfire) and it also had 0449 (evap vent solenoid control circuit malfunction)
@indymudshow Both should be easy fixes. Vent solenoid is right on top of the engine. Your P0300 is more than likely the ignition module like mine was.
@@caayydenn everyone I've talked to says something different. I've had a few say the Icm. But ive also been told push rod, lifters, oxygen sensor. Like damn lol.
@indymudshow It's highly unlikely to be anything internal to the engine due to the fact it's affecting all cylinders, unless of course it's knocking or ticking loudly. If you had a dead cylinder or something, it would only miss on the one cylinder and not the whole engine. Like I said, P0300 affects the entire engine. Live data from a scan tool can tell you a lot as well. If this issue presented itself out of nowhere, it's likely electrical, and most likely still an ICM failure.
Thank you for making this video I know it's 3 years old by now but it helped me thank you
Awesome!!! Great info!!!
there is no info anywhere that i could find on doing this for a 1989 buick riviera but this was similar and helped a ton thank you
Great job with the replacement and the video showed everything nice and clearly!! I'm curious if this affected your wheel alignment?
@@derrylballard9281 I'm sure it does slightly as the knuckle can be a little difficult to line up again. It's due for one anyway as my steering wheel is a bit crooked, indicating I need tow adjustment.
One day my '02 died in my driveway. I did notice it running slightly rough on my way home the day before and these cars normally run so smooth you don't even know the engine is running. Anyway I first replaced my crankshaft position sensor, but she still had the crank no start. Some further troubleshooting indicated that my ignition control module (ICM) was bad. So I ordered a new one and my LeSabre was alive again. A new ICM was about $120.00 depending on the manufacturer. Great video and nice to see someone else appreciating and taking care of their LeSabre. They are great cars and cars like these will never be manufactured again. So the remaining fleet must be cared for.
Coul you tell even numbers from odd I guess not
@JayTorneden I made a mistake in my speech and didn't notice until video was out. My bad. The first way I mentioned it was correct.
The number for the plug wires are embossed on the coil pack.
YO M&M WASA😂😂😂
Ive been looking for this video for a month now lol
I ran a code check at Autozone and it said my Buick Lesabre 2003 was having a misfire in cylinder 4. I’ve replaced the coil for that cylinder and nothing changed. Anyone know what I should do next?
@reggiemeigs5074 c Could just be a bad spark plug. Or a worn fuel injector. Fuel injector should read 13-18 ohms roughly. Easy check with a multimeter.
Who woulda thought 2 years ago u we’re gonna save my bacon today… the internet is a weird place man, anyway, thanks for the vid brotha
Is the silver pan behind it for the transmission looks aftermarket
@dcarden3031 It's the original pan. Says GM Hydramatic on it. Aftermarket pans come with a drain plug typically. Just put one on my Olds 98 actually.
thanks man!!
top tip kerosene is awesome for cleaning up oil, and so much cheeper than brake clean
Did you guess if you had the four pin connector?
@@jaywylie4190 I had checked to make sure. Easy enough to get to.
Ya replace relays they are right in front of air cleaner on my car.
My 91 Bonneville runs extra cool had engine light flash just replaced fan relays. My ac doesn’t run very cold
@koolkatkustomdiecast801 Your AC probably just needs recharged. As far as for running cool your thermostat is either stuck open or the seal around it is worn. I did find the correct relays by the air cleaner later on, but that shorted fan motor was definitely the issue. All is well now.
It is dangerous to use concrete blocks to hold up a vehicle and working under it!!!
@rudygaddis4130 Those are ramps, not concrete blocks.. plus parking brake is engaged. All safe here.
Helpful video! I would have never thought to look inside of that red box on the firewall. Hope there is no damage to your Olds after it overheated!
Show how to put the engine mount bracket back on ! Please !
I had one of your videos saved from a while back and I came to check out your channel. Not even a week ago I had to replace my harmonic balancer for my 91' lesabre. Got it done thankfully but it wouldve been great to have found your video sooner!
That part in the middle with the steering wheel slides onto fell into the shroud itself on my truck. How do I get that out?
@DaddyJayBirdTv Will probably require full disassembly. Might be easier to find another column to swap in at that point.
So sad to see her go. I have 89 SSE, pretty nice car. Big, roomy, comfy. Have a problems with rust too, hope to have some bodywork done next winter.
Can you please help me? I have an ‘89 Oldsmobile 88 3.8l with 81k that I bought few months ago. When the cars cold (or even after 5-6 hours) it will crank excessively before starting and than finally on the second attempt it will start right up, every subsequent start after it fires right up like normal. I hooked the fuel reader into the schrader valve and saw the fuel pressure was very low when doing the “key dance” and it also bled super quickly. I started with the easiest thing and tried to replace the fuel pressure regulator which unfortunately didn’t work. I assumed from there the only thing left would be to just replace the fuel pump & filter which I went ahead and ended up doing (OEM of course). Again, nothing same issue. I really don’t know what to do. She has new spark plugs, air filter, ICM was done back in January, fresh oil and filter when I first got the car, and I replaced some really corroded battery terminals. The car runs and drives perfectly otherwise it’s just this one issue is driving me crazy, if you have any suggestions please advise !!
@inandoutofreal1ty Could be a weak fuel pump relay. Easy to test if you have one of those test relays. When I had this issue it was my FPR, which you mentioned you replaced already. Makr sure your new one isnt faulty as well. Hope you figure it out.
@@caayydenn yeah I replaced the relay aswell hoping for an easy fix but no luck.
@inandoutofreal1ty Do the bleed down test again on the new fuel pressure regulator to make sure it actually works correctly. Hard to think of this being anything other than a fuel issue. Could also check injectors by measuring the ohms on each one. Should be around 13-17 ohms. Might try some fuel injector cleaner as well. Low miles means it's not used often, so stuff can get gunked up I suppose from sitting.
@@caayydenn thanks I’ll have to check the FPR again. see what had happened was when I checked it initially and switched it out and it didn’t end up being it, I just returned the part back to AutoZone and put the old one back in. So maybe I’ll have to buy a new one since I have a new fuel pump in now and see if it makes a difference? Idk do you think thats possible? whats your current daily driver as far as GM goes?
@@inandoutofreal1ty I switch between my 1990 Olds 98 and my 2002 Buick LeSabre. Gotta keep them both limber. Also, I would stick with OEM parts. Aftermarket isn't very good to these cars. I ended up finding a good used one for mine. Bosch makes the OEM unit. I actually have a video on replacing mine.
5:16 Commie FDR made us SAE. Sounds cool until you start working on car then you realize great now I need to maintenance both set of SAE and Metric. More craps to own, more $$$ flush
The inmortal 3.8!
GREAT Video
🤣🤣😂😂😂
When that rubber piece breaks all the way around, it can make a horrible, scary clanging noise that sounds like internal engine problems. Luckily, yours was not to that point. The engine sounds great in your Olds! Nice video!!
Yup, when that harmonic balancer lets go it sounds just like a rod knock.
Did you fan not worn at all with the bad resistor or did high still work? My 99 deville won’t blow at all.
Thanks for the video man!! I didn’t find it till the piece of crap oreillys pin remover stripped out on me. Thank you. The bolt worked great.
