    With all the affordable analog synths from behringer to me this is the best one, the internal sequencer and classic roland sound is more my speed than even the 3 osc model D. I have been out of music for some time but behringer is pulling me back in with their new products. For sure grabbing the MS 101 RD 808 & RD 909

      I agree the 101 is great but I have no idea why people still want the same tired 808/909 sounds. Especially when drum machines like the DrumBrute and Uno Drum exist. They’re still cheap and offer a fresh take and set of sounds while still being reminiscent of the classics. We’ve only heard the 808/909 for the past 35+ years 🙄

      @@HotStrange True, true. But for many of us, we wanted these devices for decades to make tracks, and they've always been out of our reach. Now that Behringer is selling at reasonable prices, we're gonna buy these synths and drum machines and make the tracks we've been wanting to make for so many years!
      I'll grant the sounds are dated, but who really cares? We've already passed the musical singularity, there is no progression now, no cutting edge. It's all just sound now, and we're all free to select the sound pallets we enjoy. Nobody has to like our pallets, we do what we do because we want to. But the thing is, many people DO enjoy a pallet that includes 101 and 808.
      AND... Arturia's analog synths/drum machines have never clicked with me. I was one of the first in the States to own the MInibrute, I ordered right when announced at Namm. It was great to be able to afford a new analog synth. But that synth did not have the mojo, or I couldn't find it. I found I'd rather use vst's for their convenience rather than deal with hardware sequencing and recording for the sounds I got out of the MiniBrute. I don't know what it is, but Arturia's analog is just dead to my ears. It doesn't have that breathing, living sound that Analog can bring.
      Long answer, I guess, but we've had the guitar for 500 years... still makes a sound people want to hear.

    The SH-101 was my first synth in the early 80s. Monophonic, single oscillator, no presets, no effects. Couldn't give it away once digital synths and samplers hit the market. I now have 10 iPad "analog synth" apps that will clearly blow it out of the water for a fraction of the price. But regardless, I have an MS-101 on pre-order already. 2 reasons: Knobs and Nostalgia. $330.00 happily spent. (Oh and I do have an SH-01A).

    • @NachtSchreck13
      @NachtSchreck13 4 роки тому

      Yeah it's got a much brighter, harsher sound. The high end has a kind of distorted edge to it. Main deviations from the SH-101 are: much brighter noise osc (white vs the 101's pink), filter resonance is different, envelope slope is linear vs the 101's exponential curve, and no auto-legato. Pretty big differences in my book.
      Having said that, for a little over $300 bucks (the cost of a single oscillator module), the MS-1/01 is a cool little synth capable of 101-ish sounds and unique, harsh tones thanks to the addition of FM. I see it as it's own thing rather than a clone of the 101. They sound totally different to me, but my ears are super sensitive to the subtle qualities of synthesizer tones, and I've been listening to music made with the 101 literally since the 1980's - it's a sound that's ingrained into my consciousness.

    • @HotStrange
      @HotStrange 5 років тому +2

      The reason is pretty obvious. It’s not the Jupiter 8. The 8 is niche enough but not enough people even know about the 4-6 to warrant producing it. These companies are out to make money after all.

    • @matthewjessup8584
      @matthewjessup8584 5 років тому +1

      @@HotStrange I'd have to politely disagree. The Jupiter's are 3 of Roland greatest synths, the 4 being a Roland vintage classic, if there was no call for them, then the originals wouldn't be selling for thousands

    • @HotStrange
      @HotStrange 5 років тому +1

      Matthew Jessup That’s not true at all. The originals are expensive because collectors and rich hobbyists will pay that. That does not mean you’re average musician wants one or would pay that. Synthesizers on the whole don’t sell by the millions and something like a Jupiter 4 would sell even less. Sure, hardcore enthusiasts would be happy. I’d be all over it. But I don’t see them remaking anything besides the 8. The others just aren’t popular enough.

    it does not have the "original Curtis oscillator".
    original DIL version 3340G is still available by the original manufacturer OnChip/Curtis.
    MS101 uses the v3340, an SMT clone by CoolAudio/Berhinger.
    which sounds ballpark, but not quite the same.
    i find the filter and resonance colder and more cutting than on the original, and top end
    is tilted and noticeably harsher. tone seems mid scooped lacking warm low end.

      Roland boutique = just program in a chip , you can put all the polyphony that you want ( while the power of the chip allows it ).
      MS101 = real analog synthesizer! every feature in the synth need specific electronics components, if you want to have two features of the same type ( like envelope, LFO, filter, oscillator, etc.... ) you need to put twice of the specific electronic components.
      Very low price analog synth or polyphony, you must made a choice, you can't have both. MS/SH 101 are monophonic and have minimal architecture for being cheap and available for everyone.
      Moog One is polyphonic and have a more rich architecture (several VCO, envelopes, etc... per voice ) and is very expansive, not for everyone.
