it seems to me that Bale is more dedicated than in love with acting. i get the feeling that if he was a high school basketball coach he would be just as dedicated. he just gives endless dedication to whatever he does, thank god it's acting. he's very humble, honest and surprisingly open to criticism. great actor. great interview.
Fuckin'ell. This guy is a 'genuine' actor. In half an hour he gives the audience true insight into the art of acting and how labour intensive it can be. Mentally and physically. Quite an intelligent, humble bloke at that.
One of the best interviews ever from an A list actor and I've seen a lot of them over the years. He's so disarmingly charismatic given his reputation of being super serious and intense. This video deserves more views, it's a shame it's connected to a film no one really saw. Oh and the best DP/30 interview.
Not a person pleaser; very honest, intelligent and very helpful in all he has to say. A unique actor who plays parts which create incredible characters and you just expect to find them when you see him during interviews, but they are just not there!
I watched this 3 years ago and still come back to it. Its an incredible interview that provides so much insight into bale's world when it comes to acting. He answered the questions brilliantly but also the DP guy masterfully asked questions. It didnt seem scripted like there was a set of questions but he would take info from the last answer and create a brand new original question and do it consistently. Need more interviews and interviewers like this!!!! To me this is pretty much a classic!
I like how Bale, that can be quite an intense actor, appears to be really a nice bloke, grounded and smart. The interview was pleasant and felt genuine. And Bale brought some unexpected funny moments and interesting insights. Pretty much like an outsider to Hollywood would do. An A list, Oscar bearing outsider 😁
That was the best interview I've seen from an actor. I've always been a fan of Christian's, but I had no idea how humble, sensible, intelligent, insightful, and honest he is. Wow!!
When he talks about what and why he does it, from 2:30 onwards, that's the nail on the head just there. I've always liked him as an actor, and now he just smashes it as a human being. He's keeping schtum even in saying what he has already, and that's a real sign of greatness. He's not perfect, but he never pretends to be. A legend in the making.
After 2 years of Acting school at a "prestigious" institution and then some experience, I have never learned as much as I have learned from this interview. Thank you man, as an aspiring actor, this gave me incredible insight. Much respect to you and Daniel Day-Lewis for giving me the best information and being the greatest two of this generation.
Man I love this interview. It shows how Christian is a real human being and has everyday struggles. Love his hard work. Amazing movie. It feels more human.
He is just a great, genuine and intense actor. The first movie that i saw him in was a made for tv movie called "All the little animals" with John Hurt and his performance was so good and honest, i had a lump in my throat almost the length of the film, then i saw Empire of the sun and it just confirmed his raw talent. He is soooo refreshingly honest, without any of that "fakeness" that some Hollywood actors give out. Keep up the good work Christian!!
What a great interview with Christian Bale. Like others have said, this is one of the first interviews where it feels like he's being very open, honest, and genuinely enjoying talking with the interviewer. Props to whoever interviewed him!
This is easily my favorite video on UA-cam. I really appreciate the interviewer for being so receptive and studied on Christian's work. There were so many amazing and deep moments caught with Christian and it always takes a good interviewer to capture such amazing talent in conversation. All my love for Christian and his dedication to his work.
I know, me too i only have seen like two interviews of him and this one just wow i just like, i mean like you said how honest he was and how he was in such a honest good mood, seriously he has learned a lot from all his experiences...
I pretty much love this man in everything hes done, good or bad movie dosen't matter. I actually felt bad for Christian when that on-set tirade was released, there are some real vultures in the industry and in the media too that were clearly trying to put a dent in his career. The man works incredibly hard to immerse himself into every character, and he does it with such concentration and focus. I tip my hat to Christian...brilliant man!
Jonathan Allon I totally agree. I love his work, too. Such range and versatility and amazing work ethic. He's a great actor and a great guy. That stupid tape didn't hurt his reputation in the industry, they obviously saw it for what it was, and how insignificant and out of context it was. (It might have hurt the DP's reputation in the industry.) Bale continues to have an excellent reputation as a lovely man who is very funny, friendly, generous, intelligent, down to earth, and easy to work with - people who've worked him keep praising him not only as an actor, but as a human being. People wouldn't want to work with him so eagerly, and then work with him again, nor recommend him to their friends to work with if he was "difficult" - that clearly isn't the industry opinion of him. As for us outsiders... anyone who thinks that little incident was actually somehow important, or a reason to judge Bale for... well that says a lot more about them than it ever did about him. - Though I must say that how he handled it - at the set afterwards, and then months later the ridiculously overblown storm in public - was fantastic. It was what a decent, responsible man would do. And I tip my hat to that. :)
***** No way an actor would get fired mid-production for a little thing like that and why would they be, that would make no sense whatsoever. He was trying to do his job and was repeatedly stopped from doing it, nobody got hurt - and no time or money was lost and nobody needed to work extra because of him (the same cannot be said of the DP). Also no way he was going for that - once he takes the job he does it all the way (including the promotion regardless of if he'd want to). But yes, of course he saw how things were being done during filming and how it was shaping up, plus the problems with script (writers' strike stuff and all). He must have wished he'd stuck to his initial "No" about doing it, but I'm sure that sometimes happens to everyone. Personally I still think the movie had plenty potential and could have been much better, but things don't always work out. And I still wish that story could have been continued, there was a lot to tell, but oh well. - And btw, it was the DP who was screwing things up in that instance, but I don't believe there was any chance of him getting fired, either. But there were people both on that set and outside of that movie who felt he absolutely deserved to be yelled at and some have said he got his shit together after that. :)
I like how the actors in this interviews are not tools for the interviewer/media, and talk like real people about their job and passion, like any other people would do.
He's the American psycho, he's the Batman, he has great hair, he has the best damn cheekbones in the universe, he's intelligent, he's a family man, he has an amazing voice, he can grow a beard to rival a Viking, he can intimidate Tom Hardy 😦 I mean, should I go on??? What a legend 👏👏👏
This is the best Bale interview I've seen and I haven't seen many but usually it's like quick press ones I see on the telly in the UK but this was really in depth and interesting and you really got to see his personality. His voice is so deep and sexy loool and he still has a cockney twang never sold out for anyone AND he was a child actor this is an anomaly such a decent genuine guy x
I'm surprised that he never went off his head with fame and drugs and things like that given how negatively he views his early acting years. Most child stars fade away but Bale stuck with it. And to become one of the most respected actors of his generation is even more impressive.
He is a great actor and great to listen to as an actor. You take so much from all his interviews. He'll make a wonderful acting coach/director! So passionate & effective in every sense. Intense!!! He talks like his mind is going around the subject is different angles, and everything he says is mindful. He's a brainiac & intense!!! He also knows himself well and what he's capable and sure of himself without being arrogant. He's humble too!
This incredible interview ended too quickly! I immensely enjoyed his intelligent and honest answers, he’s so genuine and straightforward.. doesn’t take nor give bulshit. He’s so not like all other actors out there.. even though he was in this industry from a young age. So humble and grounded. I admire this man so much you have no idea!
I love Christian Bale’s acting he’s one of my favorite actors. And I never knew that that is what his voice sounded like. I could hear that sound in his voice in a few of his movies but I thought he was acting then. And I like how he said he couldn’t really turn down the movie because he made an unfathomable amount of money for doing it you would have to be nuts not to do it. And it seems family means a lot to him which is good. I actually just watched the movie out of the furnace today that’s probably why they showed up in my feed.
Chris is a complex bloke ... I relate, he has his own set of virtues and he is not prepared to compromise his own integrity, accept where it might benefit a loved one. Hell of a geezer ... get in Chris!
Fantastic interview! Some people say that Bale gives boring interviews and this one just proves my thinking that it's not the case if the interviewers just knows the right questions to ask. Very insightful. Well done David and Christian!
Love the fact that all the comments are positive. Favourite Christian Bale flicks for me (besides Dark Knight films) would be, "3:10 to Yuma, Harsh Times, The Machinist, Out of the Furnace" amongst other films.
He has integrity. I've enjoyed all his films. Not the greatest actor for me, but he's up there. Certainly one of the most consistent and most importantly, he is HONEST. Long life Bale!
Biatch Bitch While that's incomprehensible to me in itself, the way you put it sounds positive since if some people feel like that, presumably it means they just let him be when he's out and about. A good thing for a person not wanting to be a "star" or a "celebrity" and into low-key normal life.
Acting is reacting and not trying to act, have to live in the moment!. The most important part or aspect of film is the direction and script , the acting is top of the list!!.
thank you for not faking it. you honestly just told aspiring actors how to not pretend, but to be in that other reality during your scene. its so simple and yet you have been criticized for needing a set that makes it possible for that other reality to exist to catch real emotions. you said there may not be value in your work but in reality all entertainers are moving people in ways that are a gift just as life is. to be moved is to live after all. and movies are as real as dreams or life sometimes and when it is good you don't want it to end. luckily there is always something good somewhere to experience. real or imagined. :-) you are able to be anything then and your strong focus on imagination is why you are so amazing to get sucked in by. rare is it that a character can really make you forget the person playing the role. it is nice to see a frank interview with you laughing after seeing some of your scarier roles. lol
He seems rather uncomfortable or bored in most interviews, but not here. You can get anyone to break out of their shell bro! You should try to interview Daniel Day-Lewis or something.
I think it's mostly because when he's doing all those 5 minute interviews he gets asked the same questions over and over again, which is of course the case with all actors, but here he can speak in depth about acting, films, award season, directors etc. in a very open environment which probably makes a big difference and is freeing in a way. And it makes for a very interesting interview.
So much range this guy has. He understands the mission bruh. His Bruce Wayne is Iconic. I want him and Nolan to do more. Bale and Paul Thomas Anderson would be Legendary though.
I feel he should've won the Oscar this year for American Hustle. That's just me though. I'd feel the same way if he was nominated for Out of the Furnace too. Those films were up there as my favorite films of the year. Not saying the other nominees weren't great in their films, but Bales character in Hustle was so out there and he really had to do something different than anything he had done before, which are just some reasons as to why I'd wish he won. But hey, he could get another Academy Award for another film in the future.
Awesome interview, the most insightful I've seen of him. Well done dp/30. But he's so on the fucking edge, great to listen to but the man really does live up to his public image as a bit unhinged. There's so much bubbling under the surface there.
I am in love with this man really, i have so much respect for him and what he does. He is so highly intelligent yet humble, polite. Thank you so much for sharing this interview.
this is a really good interview, really useful. I have to say I was predisposed to dislike him but I've changed my mind - he's pretty real. He's quick off the mark and sharp too. One hell of an actor because his whole voice and demeanor is totally different than in his films. Wow.
Remember him as a child in his first film? He was a brilliant talent back then, I believe Steven Spelberg directed and chose him. He hasn't changed much tbh.
it seems to me that Bale is more dedicated than in love with acting. i get the feeling that if he was a high school basketball coach he would be just as dedicated. he just gives endless dedication to whatever he does, thank god it's acting. he's very humble, honest and surprisingly open to criticism. great actor. great interview.
and great comment!
Yes, just ask the lighting fellow after Christian tore him a new rear end.
It comes easy to him so he dedicates himself to not feel guilty getting an easy paycheque he wants to earn it.
@@leemagrish3432 For which Bale apologised, and even then, you shouldn't fuck around like that on set as a crew member.
even if he were to be a chef, I'd think he'd be a pretty good chef.
Super cool guy. No ego and nothing phony about him. Just straight up honest. We need more actors like this.
...Not as cool as Burt Ward ..- now that is one cool Dude !!!! ....
just don't walk around the set when he's trying to act lol
ua-cam.com/video/HyhBB65aSOc/v-deo.html
@Tony B no ego huh-
He just doesn't suffer fools gladly, there's nothing wrong with that. A bit like Russell Crowe. I highly respect that attitude.
Fuckin'ell. This guy is a 'genuine' actor. In half an hour he gives the audience true insight into the art of acting and how labour intensive it can be. Mentally and physically. Quite an intelligent, humble bloke at that.
I have just endless respect for Christian Bale. The best actor working today, in my opinion.
6 years after, still remains the same
Yep.
Adam West is still Going strong !!! ... Dont write him off just yet !!! ....
Utterly huge respect for my man.
There is no person more intriguing than Christian Bale.
OH YES
So so so true!!! He is an amazing person and actor ❤
Christian Bale is the sexiest man alive!!! Besides that he is one of the greatest actors of our time
One of the best interviews ever from an A list actor and I've seen a lot of them over the years. He's so disarmingly charismatic given his reputation of being super serious and intense. He is, and always will be the best.... BATMAN
Have you even seen the Michael Keaton movies? -,-
Nicolai Haugsted he was the most accurate live action representation
Yes Keaton himself said that😂 I love Keaton too! but TDK trilogy is a masterpiece
Adam West will always be Batman ....he would kick Ben Asslicks ass ....
Christian Bale is officially a monster in acting of this generation. For me he's beyond world class, he's Bale class!
I have a such a huge man crush on this guy. Among the greatest actors of our generation.
I watched this 3 years ago and still come back to it. Its an incredible interview that provides so much insight into bale's world when it comes to acting. An A list, Oscar bearing outsider 😁

This is the best Christian Bale interview on UA-cam.
I could listen to him talk forever. Great interview.
he already was one of my fav actors....but WOW he is fucking awesome and smart. one of the best actors ever. coolest for sure
Now THAT is an actor I can listen to.
Love how honest he is here! LOVE YOU CHRIS!!!!
I know, me too i only have seen like two interviews of him and this one just wow i just like, i mean like you said how honest he was and how he was in such a honest good mood, seriously he has learned a lot from all his experiences...

I have to agree as I've now exploring some of his older films which I'm really enjoying but hadn't expected to.
I really like Christian, he is just a really straightforward, genuine guy who doesn't care for bullshit.
Yeah my kind of guy. He's obviously really intelligent too and has a good bullshit detector. We don't have endless patience is all.
This interview is much more like a therapy session than a publicity exercise, and all the far more interesting for it! Great stuff!!!
I've always like Bale's interviews but this is my favorite and the most insightful I've ever heard. Man, I learnt a lot from this interview!!
Finally a REAL interview! Why don't they do interviews like this? fckin love it! :)
I love a self-aware human being and he is an excellent actor to boot.
Christian Bale is, in my humble opinion, the greatest actor of all time. I’m inspired by just listening to his interviews
I like how the actors in this interviews are not tools for the interviewer/media, and talk like real people about their job and passion, like any other people would do.
+naxonesbet Yes. These DP interviews are the best.
that comment about writing dialog for scenes when the character is silent is brilliant, awesome tip
Best Christian Bale interview ever!
Minute 1.34 ...I started busting out laughing
" In order toooo.... whatever the hell you are doin it for! "
Another classic Bale moment
I've never heard Christian Bale's real voice before. Wow he sounds really cool. His voice is like wow.
Christian Bale and Gary Oldman actors don't get much better. Awesome
And please don’t forget Alan Rickman too.
What a legend 👏👏👏
the best actor in the world
Not thee best but certainly way up there. He was excellent in FURNACE and should have been nominated for BOTH FURNACE and AMERICAN HUSTLE.
***** p
BounceKnight that’s true the best actor alive I guess.
Very very great personality...
He’s so not like all other actors out there.. even though he was in this industry from a young age. So humble and grounded. I admire this man so much you have no idea!
He's so honest. We can read his eyes. I think I'm in love.
I love Christian Bale’s acting he’s one of my favorite actors. And I never knew that that is what his voice sounded like. I could hear that sound in his voice in a few of his movies but I thought he was acting then. Chris is a complex bloke ... I relate, he has his own set of virtues and he is not prepared to compromise his own integrity, accept where it might benefit a loved one. Hell of a geezer ... get in Chris!
What a refreshing and honest answer about "Why acting". No platitudes, just reality.
Best Bale interview ever. Please don't trash his lights though
Especially when he is working and focused.
I love the way he talks 💕could listen forever
This man is absolutely gorgeous!
Probably the most 'real' interview I've seen. I didn't know that Christian was from the UK, and I was pleasantly surprised.
He has integrity. I've enjoyed all his films. Not the greatest actor for me, but he's up there. Certainly one of the most consistent and most importantly, he is HONEST. Long life Bale!
watching him acting is a bless
I love intimate one on one interview with Christian because he really gets to tell his opinion on things and not be rushed for a commercial break.
I LOVE the interview. I have never seen Christian so open and honest and for such a length of time. The film was great and his performance was great.
another hugely talented actor who is down to earth (similar to Gary Oldman) so many great performances, Bateman remains my favourite
This was great. You're a great interviewer who let's his guests talk at their own pace
he seems so genuine here great interview nice to see him outside of films
now thats a fucking good interview. could listen to bale forever. well maybe not forever but still, for a while
He's calm, but still pretty damn scary.
+Parko Boy If that's a serious comment, what on earth do you mean? Scary how?
I agree. I love him, he's gorgeous but equally intimidating sometime. I'd just back off and admire his greatness from a distance.
Parko Boy Exactly
Biatch Bitch While that's incomprehensible to me in itself, the way you put it sounds positive since if some people feel like that, presumably it means they just let him be when he's out and about. A good thing for a person not wanting to be a "star" or a "celebrity" and into low-key normal life.
In the best way!
I just love this man.he's so intelligent and receptive!!!brilliant
Acting is reacting and not trying to act, have to live in the moment!. The most important part or aspect of film is the direction and script , the acting is top of the list!!.
I like this interviewer....he DOSN'T interrupt!
Amazing and rare interview. Thanks!
thank you for not faking it. you honestly just told aspiring actors how to not pretend, but to be in that other reality during your scene. its so simple and yet you have been criticized for needing a set that makes it possible for that other reality to exist to catch real emotions. you said there may not be value in your work but in reality all entertainers are moving people in ways that are a gift just as life is. to be moved is to live after all. and movies are as real as dreams or life sometimes and when it is good you don't want it to end. luckily there is always something good somewhere to experience. real or imagined. :-) you are able to be anything then and your strong focus on imagination is why you are so amazing to get sucked in by. rare is it that a character can really make you forget the person playing the role. it is nice to see a frank interview with you laughing after seeing some of your scarier roles. lol
Man a very well done and insightful interview. And also, I do think sometimes critics tend to over think the hell out of things sometimes
One of the greatest actors of our time :) Bale rules!
i love this interview so much. learnt so many things about acting in 30 minutes
So humble. Best actor of this era.
He seems rather uncomfortable or bored in most interviews, but not here. You can get anyone to break out of their shell bro! You should try to interview Daniel Day-Lewis or something.

I really appreciate his honesty here.

Out of the furnace was a very good movie, anyone who has reservations about watching it, should let down their guard and take it for a spin.
woody made that movie
This should be a must watch for every aspiring actor. I don't think Christian has been more open than in this interview.
He's so awesome. Always loved him. Well - love and fear in equal measure! His performance in The Prestige has stayed with me forever.
Equilibrium was a top movie
Gun-kata anyone
Awesome interview, the most insightful I've seen of him. Well done dp/30. But he's so on the fucking edge, great to listen to but the man really does live up to his public image as a bit unhinged. There's so much bubbling under the surface there.
4:44
when you are doing something, you cant think of nothing else but what you are doing.
this is the real secret why he is so good .
i am from new jersey and i appreciate christian bales work
big fan #1
I am in love with this man really, i have so much respect for him and what he does. He is so highly intelligent yet humble, polite. Thank you so much for sharing this interview.
this is a really good interview, really useful. I have to say I was predisposed to dislike him but I've changed my mind - he's pretty real. He's quick off the mark and sharp too. One hell of an actor because his whole voice and demeanor is totally different than in his films. Wow.
This interview is gold.
Mr. Bale, very good interview. Thank you, all my love doug
Bale is an amazing talent.
god i really really love this interview
I've watched ..... and loved his talent .... ever since "Empire of the Sun" ..... he is an amazing actor and a humble down-to-earth person!
My favorite actor.
I love his movies. So handsome and talented.
I just luv him soooo much! So down to earth and handsome.
I love the wrinkles around his eyes. They make him more handsome.
This is incredibly insightful! Incredibly honest interview from probably the most dedicated and talented actor of our time!
Remember him as a child in his first film? He was a brilliant talent back then, I believe Steven Spelberg directed and chose him. He hasn't changed much tbh.
06:18 such wise words! humiliation is definitely a crutch that holds most people back from trying new things.
Brilliant interview.
He gives the most practical advice. Very interesting.
I'm so twistedly in love with him.
