- Hey crafters. My name is Hope Yoder the owner of www.HopeYoder.com Hope Sew Creative shop. Have you ever wondered how we make our engraved pencils? I made a short video showing how to create a pencil jig in Lightburn for Rudia controlled lasers. Step 1 is to make a jig Step 2 is to use the jig for centering. Find links below for the products used in the video or visit our shop to order a set of personalized engraved pencils. Be sure to hit like and subscribe to our channel for helpful hints from Hope!

hell yeah glad I found this page. Clear video of lightburn too!
SO much fun! Great instruction!
Thank you for watching. I’m glad it was helpful.
Great video thank you. I plan on making some for my nieces and nephew. :)
Very cool machine! Thank you for sharing!
My pleasure.
This was awesome and super helpful. Thanks
Thank you. I have more videos in our FB group m.facebook.com/groups/engravingwithhopeyoder/
Thank you Hope! I’m pretty new to Lightburn and appreciate the step by step. Please continue to make videos like this!😘
Thank you! Will do! I appreciate the kind words. Check out my FB group as I have more helpful tips there, plus some live training.
@@thehopeyoder can you give me the link? I’d love to follow you.
@@shawnaarmendariz9907 It is in the post under the video. Click show more and all my links are there. Thanks. For joining the FB group, please agree to rules and answer questions then you are in-like-flynn
nicely done!
Hey, thanks for watching.
I have a Mira 9 90 watt and when I put the wood in the far right corner and try to cut after I set the user origin to the top right, it beeps and says “no enough”, “extend space” and will not allow me to continue. I’m sure it’s supposed to say not enough but I know what it means. I can’t get past this point.
This is a great video! I love the way the jig is all the way back in the corner, which is what I would like to do as well (I'm new). Question: how did you get your system color to be magenta?? Thanks for the awesome content. :)
Thanks for the kind words. Please feel free to join my laser engraving group for more laser training facebook.com/groups/engravingwithhopeyoder In answer of your question, I’m not sure what you are referring to with “magenta”? Do you mean the color layers?
So complicated your explanation. 😮
I use Lightburn but on a omtech Polar, would i need to set my material to the right like you do in the video?
It really won’t matter which corner you put it in as long as when you cut the jig and when you use the placement file, it’s always back in the same place
I appreciate that you are quick and to the point. Loved this video. I get so tired of waiting for most UA-cam contributors to get to the point and even worse are the ones that try to be comedians. I just want to learn something and I'm not worried about being entertained. I did use the pause and rewind quite a bit and that is what it is there for. May I ask what wattage is your machine?
Hi John. You made my day. I think this is the nicest compliment ever! Thanks for watching. In this video I’m using my Mira 5 laser which is a 40 watt. I just posted a new video on how to make an Upper Right Origin jig you may like ua-cam.com/video/OMDXTWz1G2M/v-deo.html
@@thehopeyoder Thanks, I'm going to check it out right now...
Very thorough...yet very quick...LOL..
Hi Hope! I love your content, I just got a Mira 5 and was wondering if you could tell me where you got the pins (?) that are holding your wood flat? I am so excited to get started and joined your FB group. Have a great week. - BWM
www.etsy.com/shop/SacredillusionsArt?coupon=HOPE15. Welcome to our engraving group and congrats on your new Mirra 5.
Is there a way to get the text in ALL the slots without having to manually place each one? That can be very time consuming if you need to do a large number. I've been looking, but can't find that feature. ?
I agree it takes a little bit of time. We usually place the first name in the first pencil opening. Next, we right-click on the text/duplicate and use the down arrows on our keyboard to move the text down to the next pencil slot and that goes pretty quick. After you have 2 names, select both, right-click/duplicate and use the down arrows to move the next two into the next postions. This goes very quickly.
@@thehopeyoder Thanks. I was hoping there was a tool that automatically did that. I thought I had seen something like that on one of these videos, but maybe not. Thanks for your reply and helpful videos!
Hi there, I am new to lightburn :) Please can you tell me how do you fill your circle in? If i make a circle, I only have a red outline of the circle, whereas the whole of your circle is coloured red, please can you tell me how I do this as it makes designing so much easier for me? Thanks xx
Hi Kelsie. Are you in my @engravingwithhopeyoder FB group? I have some tutorials there. But in the settings window choose Mode "LINE" to cut. I have my LB WIndow set up to FILLED/SMOOTH which will give you a visual of a flood of color for FILL settings (engrave) and an outline for LINE settings (cut)
hi there, i see that you have a line on the right side. is that scored?
Thank you for watching and subscribing. On the wood had a faint box around the jig. It really isn't there for any particular reason. Is that what you are referring to? I engraved the text and arrow and cut out the slots for the pencils.
@@thehopeyoder I watched this video 4 times to see when you made this faint box and I didn’t see it. Lol
Pencil jig
Hi, new subscriber here, Do you always engrave with the eraser on the right?
Yes, we always have it in the same orientation with the eraser on the right. Thanks for subscribing.
@@thehopeyoderok thank you!
love the video, but us newbies need you to slow down,,,,,,lol
Hi Lori, oops. I’ll do that next time. I bet you are glad there is a pause and rewind LOL. Hope the content was helpful.
