That was one of the last NFL games I got to see live. Until that play I was cheering for the Rams and then lost interest because it felt rigged. I was hoping the Saints could win but it wasn’t to be.

Not a saints fan, but I agree. The NFL desperately wanted a LA team to make the Super Bowl to justify moving 2 teams there in 2 years.
@@ephemispriest8069 Personally, i call karma losing in the first round to a team that hadn't won a playoff game in 32 years.
The referees were determined for the Rams to win. They missed another penalty in the overtime period, on the interception play, when Brees was struck in the head, causing the errant pass. In a season where any contact to the OB's head was an automatic personal foul, that should have been called. At the other end of the play, the Saints receiver may have pushed the Rams defender. If there was OPI on that play, it should have been off-setting penalties, but no penalties were called at all.
The facemasks that went uncalled? lol
2009 was much worse.
@ephemispriest8069 2009 was a much different era of football tbh, don't forget that 2018-2019 is the era of Clay Matthews getting flagged for roughing the passer for no apparent reason repeatedly

That Super Bowl was played in Atlanta. Historically, Saints and Falcons fans hate the other team AND its fans with a vengeance. They have been bitter conference rivals forever, even in the lean years when they battled it out for last place. But you know what happened? When the Rams ran out onto the field, Atlanta BOOED them! Even though hating the Saints was in their very blood, they stood up for their rivals and BOOED the Rams in protest of how the Saints got cheated. I'm from New Orleans, and I've never been able to muster up the appropriate historic level of hatred for the Falcons or their fans since that day. In fact, I've even been known to root for them... as long as they aren't playing the Saints, of course.

I think this was one of the most shameful on-field occurrences in the history of the NFL. (To be clear, I root for the Niners, so no love lost with the Saints.) In various photos you can see at least two refs clearly looking at the play, yet no flags. And the league wonders why some people think games are rigged.

@@babypluto3679 There was a blatant hi&lo hit on Farve that was uncalled and resulted in an interception. The "Tom Brady" rule if you need an easy search. The Saints also had a fourth down conversion in OT that was fumbled behind the line of scrimmage and the guy fell on the ball short of the mark.

@ephemispriest8069 Brett Favre's idiotic throw led to the interception, because Brett Favre was an idiot that made a lot of bad throws in his career. The hit did not cause the ball to get picked, Favre's terrible decision making did.

That's a fairly dramatic title for a video that boils down to "there was a single missed call and then the Saints couldn't close it out."
Fun fact, I coached Nickell Robey-Coleman in HS. We always installed a "Nuclear Option" in the event you get beat deep or for a TD. It was basically, do anything to the WR to prevent the catch. 15yd penalty is better than 7pts. Therefore, Nick simply hit the Nuclear Option Button. I am still shocked it was not called Def P.I. Pls don’t crucify me for saying this but I think it shouldn’t have been a pass interference cuz the ball was slightly out of Lewis’ catch radius, so the refs probably thought that even without Coleman there it probably would’ve been overthrown. But what should’ve happened would probably be Coleman getting called for a personal foul for illegal contact on a defenseless receiver, cuz Coleman absolutely made helmet to helmet contact with Lewis on the play. In today’s NFL that would definitely not only be an automatic first down but Coleman could have also been ejected. I guess what I’m trying to say is that it should’ve been a more serious penalty than what everyone argues it should’ve been, but stuff like this, and even stuff that happened more recently like the Lions-Cowboys week 17 debacle from this past season really says a lot about how poor NFL officiating has been for so long. Idk if it’s rigged or if the NFL just hires the most unqualified people for arguably the most crucial role in the game, but Goodell really needs to do something.
