Every wonder where are they now?
Today, I take another nostalic and historic memory lane road trip. In this episode, I visit the famous gravesites of some of the cast members of the classic 1970s and '80s TV sitcom LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE.
In addition, I visit the Big Sky Ranch (or attempt to) in Simi Valley, California, where Little House On The Prairie was often filmed.
    GRAVESITES VISITED:
Michael Landon, Hillside Memorial Park, Culver City, CA
Merlin Olsen, San Gabriel Cemetery, San Gabriel, CA,
Dabbs Greer, Peace Valley Cemetery, Anderson, Missouri
Charles Ingalls, De Smet Cemetery, De Smet, S. Dakota
Caroline Ingalls, De Smet Cemetery, De Smet, S. Dakota
Mary Ingalls, De Smet Cemetery, De Smet, S. Dakota
Other cast members who were buried out of state or who were cremated and have no final resting place to visit, include: Katherine MacGregor, Richard Bull, Kevin Hagen, Karl Swenson and Victor French.
I also remember the cast members who are still living: Melissa Gilbert, Karen Grassle, Melissa Sue Anderson, Lindsey and Sidney Greenbush, Kathrine Macgregor, Richard Bull, Jonathan Gilbert, Kevin Hagen, Alison Arngrim, Matthew Labyorteaux, Dean Butler, Victor French and Karl Swenson.
Thanks for joining me on my travels on yet another trip to the past, down memory lane.

Same. Though as an atheist I find the constant religious stuff nauseating. When I was younger & watched I was a Christian & didn’t notice how in your face the show was about religion. My favorite is when Grace finds out Mr Edwards doesn’t believe in god. She recoils and looks at him like he just grew horns on his head.

Big Sky Ranch lost out on a lot of money. They could have had a tourist attraction if they had kept the town. Rather like the Alexander Farm in NZ & Hobbiton.

@@anitastodolak9882 You are 100% correct. As you said, the good news is that we can watch the Little House and Highway to Heaven reruns every day of the week. I was visiting my parents over the weekend and my mom was saying how you can watch each episode of Little House a million times and you never get sick of it and it feels as fresh now as when it was first aired. Sad to think how long ago that show was on the air and how young everyone was and now, most of the adults from that series are gone. I would hope that there is a place on TV for new shows like this but who knows anymore.

@@steviem5279 You're so right and you are 100% correct in your comment and assessment of things and TV. Sadly I think those days are long gone! People want the reality TV and all the sensationalism that it envokes and brings! Me myself want and need to be taken back to a simpler time. Luckily as we said we can still do that. Again God bless Michael and his legacy. Also with the way the world is now we all need a little escapism.

@@anitastodolak9882 yep, its a shame. I remember about 8 or 9 years ago they tried to do a revival of Little House and it failed miserably, it wasn't bad but no one watched and if I remember it only lasted one or two episodes. The beauty of Little House is that it not only transported you to another time but it also made you feel like you knew each and every one of the characters on the show. Sometimes I wish you can go back in time to those Monday nights just to watch one episode.

Steve, just a little something..... When I was 15 yrs old I worked part time for my neighbor across the street in Alhambra who was a Gardener for some extra spending money, (Mr Young). I helped mow and clean out the gardens at Merlin Olsen's house once a week, he was one of Mr. Young's customers. A few times Mr. Olsen came out to say hello to me and just talk for a few minutes about high school sports. He was really a very nice guy, and made a big impression on this 15 year old kid.......Just some fun info.

I remember seeing Michael Landon's final appearance on the Johnny Carson show. He'd lost a lot of weight, he didn't look well. He knew what was happening but, to his credit, he had a sense of humor about it. He even addressed a tabloid headline about his wife wanting one more child. He had eight kids, two with his third wife. He had the place in stitches when he talked about that. The one thing he said to Johnny that has stuck with me is "I haven't missed a hell of a lot." No matter how you look at it, its still a shame because it would have been a great tourist attraction for people to see Walnut Grove and fans like us would flock there would visit for sure. It's amazing to think how fast times goes by as that show started 46 years ago and ended 36 years ago, sometimes I wish there was a way to go back to those times, I remember watching the show as a kid with my parents and for my mom, it was a must watch show.

I was born in 1972, but made sure I watched Little House on the Prairie on tv reruns each day, at 4 p.m. I think it was! 😊 Michael Landon always came across as the father of every young girls’ dreams. His version of Charles was strong, proud, dedicated to his wife, moral, and community supporting; and yet incredibly soft/tough as a father. When I was a kid, seeing a handsome man playing this type of father, one who wasn’t afraid to cry, really left a lasting impression on me. Anyone out there too young to have grown up watching this show, I would highly recommend purchasing the series for your family. Especially for any young parents of daughters. You can’t pick a better representation of a good father and mother, who ensured their daughters were also educated, moral, and had good self-esteem, without relying on looks or boyfriends. Sorry this is so long winded, but I’ve come across a number of millennials and Gen Z, who are young parents, and have never seen an episode because they thought it just seemed “old”. This show holds up well. ♥️ And does anybody else miss the comedy gold of the Olsen family? FYI, thank you for the video. New subscriber.

Another good video trip down memory lane Steve. I watched all three of Michael Landon's most famous series, and so the nice look at his resting places was especially welcome. If my own memory serves, there was a werewolf episode of Little House..., and one of the Hal'ween installments of HIghway to Heaven touched on this subject as well. For those of us who are fans of Landon, this nod to "I was a Teenage Werewolf" (1957) is a nice touch (it's quite apparent in the Highway... episode). As is often the case, you covered several cast members I hadn't realized had passed, sadly, but House has been out of production for close to forty years now, so not a great shock. I suspect you enjoyed walking through cemeteries, and admiring various markers, something I did as well in days when my mobility wasn't as limited as it is now. Being on the east coast, you do provide quite a valuable service in allowing us to see so many of the grounds near LA, so my hat is off to you again there.

Although I've long known the lovely show, it was only fairly recently or a few months ago in which I finally was able to watch it. The Little House on the Prairie (besides I Love Lucy/The Lucy Show) had been of great comfort to my mum and I during those difficult weeks we were stuck at the hospital's COVID-quarantine area. Anyway, thank you, Steve, for yet another lovely tour although there was a little hiccup in the end with ranch. Take care in your trips. And blessings to you and to your dear Mum.

They need to make more family shows like Little House and the Waltons. They keep saying the people dont want that kind of show, The Hell they don't. The people are tired of Cop shows and sitcoms, they want something the whole family can enjoy together. They dont think people will watch family shows, how the Hell would they know, they never made a new family show to find out. They keep shoving the same kinds of shows down our throats enough is enough.

Oh Steve, this is absolutely wonderful. Thank you so, so much for doing this. The sets were all blown up at the end of the series, I think someone mentioned that already, but I've seen videos on here before of Semi Valley and one in particular with Melissa Gilbert and Dean Butler. It's such a shame the whole place couldn't be preserved, but I think it was contractual with the land owners that it be returned to its original state after filming ended, plus Michael Landon didn't want any other show to use "their set". I do believe though that Stan Ivar who played John Carter, owns the original little house set. They wanted to put it in the real Walnut Grove, but needed permission from Ed Friendly, who owned the rights to Little House on the Prairie, but now that he has died, who do they ask, I often wonder? He passed in 2007, so it's been a while. Hopefully, one of these days, it can be assembled there. Thanks so much again, I really enjoyed this and as much as I love this show and of course, Highway to Heaven, which funnily enough, I am currently binge watching, my favourite has to be Victor. Michael, yes, I liked him, but unfortunately, I think he loved himself a bit too much (sorry to any massive fans out there), but it's how I feel. Anyhoo, thanks so much again and apologies for taking so long to come across this, I had been away from watching anything for many months and am only now trying to catch up when I can :) Keep up the wonderful work . Stay safe
