I literally teach impact to every student I have at the Peter Cowen Golf Academy. Understanding it is key to better golf swings, shots and scores! Lots more content available on the channel also
Separation between lower and upper body is the most misunderstood concept in the golf swing imho. Many don’t have the mobility to achieve it but more don’t even understand how to achieve it. Well done with the breakdown.
I've watched like half the bloody instruction vids on YT lol But none of yours until now and never heard the shoulder in front of the foot thing. Makes a lot of sense and something I'm probably doing wrong. Subbed 🙂
YES!!!!! PRAISE BE!!!!! For the last year (after taking 5-6 months away from the game) Ive been trying to figure out why my hands my hands aren’t ahead of impact anymore. I’ve video’d my swings from every angle and couldn’t figure it out. I was too focused on watching my lower body and hands throughout my swing that it never occurred that my lead shoulder was winning the race every time and the cause of my poor impact. After 10 swings on the range i had instant results. Thank you for this video! SUBSCRIBED AND FOLLOWED
Decent impact has been missing form my game for some time but thankfully I am getting there Excellent talk / demo on impact - keep these vids coming Cheers
Hi, Andy, great video. My question is this: how do you keep your head on or slightly behind the ball at impact, but with your weight on your lead foot? When I try to pose in a static impact position with my head at or behind the ball, my weight seems to be still on my trail foot. Thanks!
This is a great way of learning to separate your upper from lower body. Pushing & rotating the hips to the left as the head/spine angle stays stationary. Major key to the impact is making sure the weight transitions to the lead foot so make this a primary focus.
It’s the piece of the puzzle that’s missing from my swing. Have worked with an instructor to make changes to path and plane, but have struggled with consistent impact and rotation. Picked up an impact bag last week. Looking for some drills use it properly and more information on the issue. Can definitely see myself getting into some of the bad positions you described. Thanks 🙏
Enjoyed the video, Andy. Shows that the wrists break after ball impact. I think many golfers try to break the wrists at ball impact but you show that is not how to do it. Thanks.
Hey, this video is one of the best I've ever watched!! Can you make a video like this, only the difference between a iron, and a driver impact position!!! I'm struggling with my driver!! Thank you!!!
Literally had a lesson same guy said the same thing .... same drill 👌other thing that helped he made me hit half shots with an alignment stick and sorted out a few things which I won’t say lol but yeah literally best advice went from a slice to a draw in a few shots left happy 😊
Great video. But can you provide some drills how to achieve this? I have tried many things but I’m not able to achieve this. My upper body keeps sliding forward.

Carter's Golf It must just be me, you all do it. I taught badminton at a good level for fifteen years and only explained what was needed (no negativity). Thanks for your reply, good instruction.
Look at the ball position though too. Look at your students. To me it’s central of stance, yours looks further back, could be camera angle but it definitely looks that way. If I get the ball further up I tend to have to compensate with a lean also. Also dk what iron he’s using but you guys ball position definitely looks different
@@dannyfree1120 Do you do weight shift now? I was swinging well until all these coaches started telling me to do it. Then I started chunking/topping everything....
@@method341 exactly the same. I don't deliberately weight shift or "hip bump" anymore. I feel my weight goes to left heel as my shoulder goes back away and behind me. You need to make sure you don't sway too much in backswing though Just an FYI. I'm no coach and I play off 16, but I find this thought helps a lot.
Don't stress about my comments your instructions are good I'd just prefer that you get to the point asap without the don't do this etc. Anyway please do more videos you are good.

Legend Matthew, welcome to the channel.
So much good info. For example, I had no idea the spine was 90 degrees to shaft at setup!
Hope it’s helped Bob
Your so right, this is the single most important part of the swing, If you know this then the golf swing is easier, great video.
Love the video. I understand what you are saying, now all I have to do is teach my body to understand and complete properly. That's no easy task.
Yes thats the hard bit Robert haha

I have missed seeing Carter Golf. Can’t wait to see more. Welcome back!
Thanks John, lots of videos posted since June. And lots more to come

Also a good way I started teaching myself is feeling impact at address and just trying in the swing to get back there.
Yeah i like this. I coach this drill a lot too
Very well explained, look forward to trying this at the range once it opens!
I wish i have seen this long time ago, super helpful
Better late than never Omar. Happy to help with coaching anytime buddy
Great tip fantastically explained
Thank you Chris
Excellent tip Andy on how to attain the proper impact position! This is something that I will be practicing in order to improve my ball striking.

The wrist release through impact helping with the descending blow at impact and improved strikes

Awesome Stuart, glad to hear you’ve had similar advice and it’s working
Thank you 🙏🏼

brilliant vid Andy! thanks from Argentina
My pleasure Miguel. Thanks for watching and welcome to the community
Great refresher vid for me this is mate, good stuff 👍
Glad it’s helped Ross. More new content coming from next week
Great tip!
your swing is nice :-) a bit jealous! joke aside, thanks for the tips - good channel, discovered through P. Finch. Nice!
Very good 🏌️♂️😊👍🏻
Great vid!
Thanks buddy
Sir, please come to play in Digboi golf couse, Heritage and unique British made course 18hole, India Assam 👍
Can you practice by putting your left side against a wall and go through the motion?
Yes mate, keep the upper body back away from the wall but allow the hands to work towards it
Good lesson Andy.
Superb: subscribed.
Thank you Ben. Welcome to the channel
Great explanation, but just explain what to do nothing else.
Cheers Barry.
Understanding faults is just as if not more important than fixing then

Definitely central ball position buddy. Sorry if it looks further back. Maybe its just the camera angle not quite perfect
Very nice
I like that thought... lead shoulder should never go past the leg. I've always liked to lunge at the ball for some reason
Yes. The lunge forward is not good for swing path or strike
Same here. I lunge forward with my upper body on the downswing. How do I stop this?
Same! I think it's because I've spent years hearing about "weight shift". Screwed me for years

Are you sure that you keep your hands square that long after impact?
I’m not sure what you mean?
@@andycartergolf Would there be a release of the wrist after contact or hold face square long after.
Hit your fairway woods longer than ever

Robin williams lives!
You spend too much time saying what not to do - rather just concentrate of what to do
Thought I’d explained what to do also tbh.
I’ll make sure to be clearer in future. Thanks for the feedback
