    I’m trying to work on “stamping” onto my left lead foot then turn the body/right shoulder down, under and through, transferring weight forward. With 3 prolapsed discs I was very nervous to try and was protecting my back with my old swing, but it really helps, plus actually takes pressure off my back. Great tips……. 👍👍

    Thanks Andy - really helpful information, recently lived in Abu Dhabi when you were in Dubai, really wishing I had made the trip for some lessons now. I had a couch there but he focused on lateral movement and timing a bit too much I think and since my golf has been all over the place, just like you said I can never get the timing right, every swing feels different. Just practiced that move in my living room and feels a lot more repeatable for me, excited to take this to the range.
    Quick question though, would you recommend this same action with a wedge shot? really struggling 60-100ish yards at the moment

    Great video Andy! I have been working on this technique whereby I'm trying to get my right shoulder back more in my turnaway and then transfering to the movement to the left shoulder with it going back and around. Both of these movements are in conjunction with my weight going right and then left. At the same time, the club is dropping with the help of gravity and the lower body rotation is in motion.

    • @andycartergolf
      @andycartergolf  Рік тому

      It’s a tough move isnt it. But break it down and keep the reps nice and slow

  • @AmmoDude
    @AmmoDude Рік тому +1

    I'm thinking it's the hips that starts the downswing and that creates the "whipping" action in the swing. The hips start forward (toward the target) then they turn using the legs and ground to create swing speed. I get this idea from watching tour pros hitting a ball from loose footing (pine needles, loose dirt, etc.); the right foot always slides back behind the golfer. The only way that happens is if the hips move toward the target first then rotate. Same way a baseball pitcher creates ball speed. It is the elite golfer's move and why they hit it so far compared to amateurs that spin the hips instead of using them to whip the club through impact.

    This is something I really need to work on, I definitely throw the club on my bad swings and come out to in, even worse than the slice I save it with my hands and hit a pull draw which can be very destructive to a score, have you got anymore drills for fixing this on top of using this one with the feeling of my pulling the arms down. Cheers!

  • @roeydaz

    My downswing transition thought is to hit the ball with your back to the target. ….this thought causes you to shift correctly to the left side and the club moves correctly to the delivery position. I find so long as you are balanced at the top ie weight through the middle of your feet it’s easy to make this move. This has improved my ball striking dramatically. ….now if I could putt decently…..I’d be a sought after golf partner😂😂. Thanks for a nice lesson.

    Using the force is also loading the left leg, creating power when your body moves back up due to ground force - this is what Mcilroy also talks a lot about, and god knows he can he a golfshot! Really emphasis on the stepping down, where it’s natural for your body to ‘dip’ as long as you maintain spine angle

    "Really interesting video, it clarifies a lot one of the crucial moments of my swing. However, I still have a small doubt: If I choose your way of voluntarily pulling down the arms (instead of letting them passively fall), I only have the doubt of not controlling the movement from the body, and of always having the doubt of how much I have to pull down and for how long. I'm afraid of generating movement sequences that are always different from each other. Am I wrong, or did I misunderstand some fundamental element of your video? I am an 11-handicap Italian golfer. Thank you in advance.

    This is gold. Pretend the head of the club is an axe. And you're trying to chop a wood on your side. Naturally, club face will be perpendicular to the floor. Feeling the down force is the key and it feels amazing.

    • @mplunky1
      @mplunky1 10 місяців тому

      When you do that axe drill is the leading edge of the clubface the blade of the axe?. Also does this mean you are only using linear plane of the hands just hinging then unhinging for speed without any hand rotation?..just a hammer motion up & down.The axe drill confuses me as I'm never sure if I should also be rotating my hands as well through impact.

    It is helpful to someone; it is not a way with Pete Cowen's way how to start the downswing. Andy swing has 2 plain and must drop down his hands first. conversely Pete cowan's top of swing maintain just 45 degree so that has already to prepare and don't have to down his arms that much. Just focused on how much i can press the ball and right leg settle down and shift to left leg.

    No help for me here, far too much to think about. I need simple thoughts in my swing, not shifting hips, not shifting weight, not rotation. I just need to keep my swing smooth and not rushed, nice and gentle. As soon as I try to add power it all goes pear shaped. Chunks and thins occur really quickly 😞. Ok, I will never be a scratch golfer or even single figure HC ever again, I can deal with that, as long as I don’t make myself look stupid. 🤔🤣 I’ve done that before, I’ve been a club captain and a handicap secretary (worst job at any golf club), I know where I am now. We all want to play better but, none of us will ever win, the course always wins if you try to beat it. Better to enjoy the game and don’t let any bad shots/putts affect the next. Anytime playing golf is better than being at work.
    Saunton Sands (if it is still called that) is an amazing course, probably one of the best links course in north Devon. Looking forward to seeing you play this one. I remember having family holidays there when I was very young (40 years ago), will be interesting to see how the course has changed. Sand dunes don’t stay still.

      Thats ok Steve! Lots of people ask for a lot more detail so I like to balance it for everyone.
      What i will say about adding power and it going wrong is that you either haven’t bedded the change in enough or you’re not doing it correctly because adding power only adds distance not ruins shots.
