      That is awesome to hear! I do a live show on Tuesdays at 6pm EST with a renal dietitian - your dad may find that helpful. He can also submit questions during the show and we may be able to answer them live. I have a number of amazing dietitians who are working to help kidney warriors live better lives through the power of nutrition - it's free and a great way to learn more about nutrition and living with CKD.

    Hello. I am a 75 year old woman. I have stage 3 kidney disease climbing toward stage 4. 20 years ago I had a heart attack. I have crippling arthritis in my spine. I am also overweight. I have recently come down with my 3rd case of gout. The worse one by far. I am absolutely certain my poor functioning kidneys and poor diet have caused this. Thank goodness I discovered your advice videos. You have been more help to me than my kidney specialists. I am currently riding my diet of all added salt, sugar and unhealthy fat as possible. Also doing away with all foods that are triggers for gout. I have written down the foods you have listed when starting on your kidney friendly diet. Am trying to concentrate on eating only those foods. Of course I have discovered doing away with salt, sugar and fat have made me feel better. I love your videos. I thank you for them and hope you will keep up the good work and keep on posting more of them. Thank you very much.

      +Patricia Tharp Thank you for sharing - it really warms my heart to hear of others who find my videos helpful. It was difficult making them at first, putting myself out there when I was still so sick and weak, but I am so glad I did. The videos show proof of how powerful diet can be when used as part of a treatment strategy for kidney disease. I have huge plans to take things even further in 2020 with many more videos and a lot more helpful information. If you don’t mind me asking, where are you located? I keep a map in my office and like to put pins for the different places people are watching my videos.

    James, Not only have I seen the difference with your weight but you even look healthier. You look more rested as well. The dark circles around your eyes are fading. You are getting healthier from the inside & outside. It is great to see. Fantastic that you have a Doctor that will allow you to send your questions in well before your appointment. I wish all Doctors to be like that. I have recently found a great Doctor and I look forward to my appointments with him. He is happy to work with me to get me healthy again. He has a positive attitude too. He is the 5th Doctor so it took a while to find him but so glad I did. The other Doctors had that attitude that it was the end of the line for me. They can keep that attitude away from me as I have bigger plans for my future. Thanks for another great video.

      I have something to share with you. Yesterday, I just watched Forks Over Knives Documentary on youtube. I highly recommend that you watch this documentary, see link below. Pay special attention to what Dr. McDougall says about Oil & Fats.
      I was shocked to learn that Oil & Fats SUPPRESS OUR IMMUNE SYSTEM. If you get Cancer, your Immune System can fight it bcos it's supressed by consumption of oils/fats.
      Click link below & listen very carefully. Take notes.
      ua-cam.com/video/ij1r27_dHk0/v-deo.html
      Also, check out Dr. McDougall.com
      He offers lots of Free Info. Look for the list of foods to eat, which will Feed Our Gut Bacteria.
      Also, listen to one of his hundreds of lectures on youtube.
      * APO-E-Gene. Look it up. There the number 2 or 3 or 4.
      If you have 4, you die from eating fats.
      If you have 2, then you die from "not" eating fats, in both cases via diseases.
      Then there are sub categories of these numbers in combination.
      Do your homework on the APO-E-Genes.

I can eat out anywhere and have no issues - I may just not be able to eat a lot of some foods. I've also come to see veggies as more than toppings for Pizza's and burgers. Life has gotten a lot easier and I'm so much healthier because of it.

      Sorry to hear about your brother. I agree, education is what is needed to help CKD patients. And it needs to be provided to us so that we understand it, not in a lot of medical jargon. As the channel grows, I hope some of the big kidney organizations will see that and start shifting to more education in a patient focused style.

      From my medical and scientific knowledge over the years as a student and a worker in the medical field and reports from medical journals tells me that everything we eat or drink, in other words everything that enters the body, is filtered through the kidneys and liver. They are our filtering systems. They may say things don't affect the kidneys. I beg to differ with them. If it goes through the kidneys at all, as we know it does, it does affect them. That's my honest opinion.

    Hi dadvice I'm from Trinidad and recently because of my friend's dad kidney function decline , I came across your amazing and life changing videos. In the Caribbean you don't ever recover once you're diagnosed with chronic illness you just decline till the end and it's because of the fact that they always tell you eat with moderation when you should essentially cut it out immediately , when it comes to rice and bread .I myself for the last two months have been doing the keto diet , which has proved to be the next best thing for me I've lost 25lbs in 1 and 1/2 months and was able to introduce it to my boy friend after he was told he was type 2 diabetic and given metformin . It's one month into him using the keto diet and I've never given him a single dose of metformin and he has gone from fasting blood glucose of 159 to 90 . Bottom line it was because of research i was able to change my boy friends life and it's research that led me to your videos . I would really love my friend's father to listen to what you have to say but all I hear about is the doctors that Don't help to improve the illness with proper diet and the diet sheet that allows them to eat rice and bread and other things they shouldn't be eating in moderation .

I just published video #55 a couple days ago and it goes into what foods you can eat, including what information you MUST GET from a doctor or dietitian so that you can make sure and get the minimum nutrients your body needs while not getting too much. Dave from California,
    I’m currently at stage 4, I’ve been following you for little while now lots of good stuff thank you. Have you done any research on the Mayo Clinic? From what I’ve gathered they have done great amount of research on kidney disease. I have an appointment with them in July in Phoenix. Is worth the time and money, because my insurance is out of network with them. I would love your advice or if you’ve done some research on Mayo Clinic, what were your fundings?

    • @DADVICETV
      @DADVICETV  5 років тому

      Both the Mayo Clinic and UC San Diego have made amazing progress in the furthering of knowledge about Kidney Disease. I've read research papers and exchanged emails/messages with both of them and found them SO helpful and advanced. To me, it would certainly be worth seeing them. A lot of people may think I'm just cruising along, following my diet - but I am still constantly talking to Nephrologist and researchers all over the place to plan far into my future. I'm currently on a modified Keto diet - doing great - and just got back about an hour ago from a doctor visit today planning out the NEXT phase for me after my 45-day Keto diet test, as well as the next phase after that. There is still so much doctors do not understand and you have to look to the leaders, like the Mayo Clinic and UC San Diego, to see the possible solutions. The more you learn, the better your chances of discovering a solution that works for you to help you get better faster. Good Luck!!!

    • @DADVICETV
      @DADVICETV  5 років тому +1

      You are in stage 2, but close to the border of stage 3a. Kidney function typically declines as we get older, so you can expect yours to decrease naturally over time. With a GFR of 63 you are considered lucky - you found out at an early stage where you should have little or no symptoms. Diet and living a healthy lifestyle (no smoking, no heavy drinking, no NSAIDS like ibuprofen) should help to maintain your kidney function so that you have no issues. My only concern would be with the medications you may take for your Lupis and Arthritis - important to make sure those do not harm your kidneys, which your doctor can verify.

      Only you and your team can decide when is the right time. If it was me, I would look at what have I done so far - if I had been eating poorly, I would certain give strict dieting a good try. But if you'd been sticking to a good diet, it may be time to get a access ready to prevent needing it in an emergancy.

    • @DADVICETV
      @DADVICETV  5 років тому +1

      We are each a little different, so I can't give a 100% yes or no - but 5 months is a LONG time and there are things you can do to see if they improve. First you need to make sure you are treating the underlying cause to stop further kidney damage - blood pressure, blood sugar, etc. Then look at your current labs and your diet - this is where a dietitian can be VERY helpful. Lowering your Creatinine and BUN are 2 of the most difficult and time consuming. Diet is key - and that includes drinking plenty of WATER, eating less foods that cause creatinine to increase (animal proteins for example), and keeping you diet BALANCED. You can't starve yourself to health. I would encourage you to strongly consider talking to your doc about going vegetarian and seeing how that impacts your next blood work. I personally would not wait 5 months - I'd switch to a strict vegetarian diet, only drink water, avoid processed foods, get plenty of fiber, watch my salt (only use Pink Sea Salt) and then new labs in 30 days after doing that and sticking to it. This will let you know if it is working for you, which will give you the inspiration to do more.
      What do you typically eat during a week currently?

    • @ernestobasquinez8387
      @ernestobasquinez8387 5 років тому +1

      The truth I am avoiding eat meat including chicken. I'm now on diet by way of not eating too much, I can say semi vegetarian and fish, small cut of fried chicken (1 and 1/2 sq. in.). There are time I eat (just to taste small pork or beef) but the I do not swallow the meat - is it a good practice? Speaking of water, I am used to drink green tea, is it equivalent of drinking of plain water? OK, I will change my salt to Sea Salt or rock salt we commonly call it. In additiion I like fried rice with plenty of garlic mixed with granulated cabbage(half cooked) and add to taste cinnamon. I used to oatmeal as well in the morning. Thanks so much for your very encouraging reply. Best regards.

      Honey has SO many positives, just be careful if you are diabetic or on a low-carb diet. For your brother is can be helpful in preventing infections related to dialysis. Since your brother is on dialysis, have him check with his doctor to make sure there are no issues specific to him with adding honey to his diet, as well as how much he can have on a daily/weekly basis. His doctor may even have a recommended type of honey - they vary based on what the bees feed on that make the honey.
