No protein in urine. Microscopic blood in urine. Only major diet change was no coffee or Coca Cola. Have eaten organically since 1985. Blood pressure low 105/65. There was a time when doctors put people on dialysis with such a high eGFR - but they have now learned that it is actually better for the patients to manage the disease until the eGFR is much lower. I encourage you to ask your doctor WHY he/she wants you on dialysis with such a high eGFR. There may be a good reason...or your doctor may be using old methodology.

      Welcome! You kidney function is slightly below normal for your age, and most likely they won’t be a problem by keeping your blood pressure in check, staying active, and living a healthy lifestyle. You will want to see if you are leaking protein in your urine - that is one of the best indicator of possible future trouble. All in all you and your doctor should be able to easily keep things in check with very little effort.

      I would be concerned if you are leaking protein in your urine. If you are not, there is a good chance you just got it at a lower moment (it fluctuates throughout the day and is impacted by things like your hydration level). The accuracy of an eGFR above 60 is very poor, most labs are now only saying >60 and not even giving a number above 60.

      eGFR above 60 isn't very accurate, and some labs have moved to showing >60 instead of a number. At 65, over eGFR 60 is outstanding! Being a runner, the natural break down of muscle from runs impacts how much creatinine is in your blood - which is what is used to ESTIMATE your kidney function. Unless you have protein in your urine or another symptom, you most likely have normal functioning kidneys for your age.

    My nephrologist told me to hydrate myself very good before making the next labs, because he said: if the creatinine gets back to normal (from 1.1 ... female over 55+, automatically calculated egfr 53, BUN 22, no albumin in urine and normal albumin in serum) there is no kidney disease at all. It is then just a sign of not enough hydration and the cause why the creatinine and the BUN was climbing up a bit.
    His further explanation: because you can't "drink away" a real kidney disease. Are you his opinion too? Thanks and nice regards!

    • @DADVICETV
      @DADVICETV  2 роки тому +4

      It is possible to over hydrate and dilute the amount of creatinine in your blood, making it appear as if you are improving. But that said, dehydration is one of the most common causes of low calculated kidney function. Ask your doctor how much fluid you should drink and drink that amount the day before and the appropriate amount the day of your labs. If things look good, your doctor may be right and you were just dehydrated. It’s very easy to be dehydrated and not feel thirsty. good luck!

    Hi I'm confused by so much . My lab results have always been declared "just fine" by all my docs regarding my kidneys. But when I dig deeper and listen to videos like this one, I think I may be in trouble. I work out daily, take protein supplements and 5G of creatine daily. My BUN has changed from lab to lab but always in normal range and averages around 14 but sometimes goes as high as 21 (upper limit of normal). My creatinine also stays in normal range always but ranges from .8 to 1.3 and averages 1.0. My EGFR is always above the minimum (60) but hovers around 80 to 105, coming up and going down for reasons I do not understand. Nothing is ever flagged and I do not have known kidney issues. eGFR below 90 is considered mildly decreased, which could be an early sign of potential kidney function changes.
      If you have mildly decreased kidney function and you're considering using creatine, it's important to be aware of the potential risks. Creatine supplementation might put additional stress on the kidneys, which could potentially worsen kidney function. There's a possibility that it could lead to further kidney damage or complications.

    The key point would seem to be that it is the presence of protein in your pee , at first the microscopic albumin ( microalbuminuria) , is the time for real concern BUT I have seen videos by the likes of Jason Fung who say that the very early appearance of albumin in your urine can be treated with fasting and other life style changes. Only when you get macroalbuminuria -large amounts-will fasting fail to treat it.

    • @DADVICETV
      @DADVICETV  2 роки тому +6

      Your GFR calculation is based on creatinine, so if you take weight-lifting supplements that contain creatine or have a lot of muscle mass, your creatinine will be higher. Creatinine isn't bad - it's created by your muscles. There are other tests your health care team can do to check your kidneys - I'd look into that. Keep an eye on your urine - protein leakage is a key sign of kidney issues. All in all, it's never too late to look at your diet and lifestyle to see if there are things you can do better, especially for your heart and kidney health.

      It is reliable, just not as accurate as most people believe. Most people also do not understand how it fluctuates, so they get worried if their next test shows it down a couple points. As Doctor Rosansky encourages, we should all focus on the trends not the individual number.

      @@DADVICETV that is true but the fluctuations are usually between 0-5 and in some rare cases 0-8 which means if someone’s GFR is 40 or 50 mg/dl that person surely has CKD now as it is an estimate he is either at stage 3 or stage 4 but no way he could be stage 1 or 2 therefore GFR is reliable but there is roughly a 0-5 fluctuation depending on diet, exercise and other health issues.
