    Just got one today and I just wanna mention that this kalimba has a specific frame entirely built out of metal to make the lower rack accessible to the tuning hammer and while it's pretty neat, it comes with a bargain. The tines get SUPER out of tune when you play hard, which you may want in particular instances. Metal slides easier on metal then it does on wood. I got the kalimba to consider a future in busking and this flaw is quite major for what I intended to use it for. Major enough for me to consider returning it for a different brand.

    Finally I can play a tritone on a kalimba.
    In all honesty, dissonance sounds astounding on kalimbas 1. Because kalimbas are almost always consonant due to all notes on a kalimba being in the same key/relative minor 2. Hearing metal resonant against another piece of metal has such a mysterious and almost horror/tense effect which is almost completely against the whole purpose of 99% of kalimbas.

    I just found your channel and oh my God I'm in love!!! I'm not a musician but I do have been learning to play ukelele for a couple months now, I have had it for like two years but I never had the courage to pick it up just cuz I felt so frustrated but now that I take actual classes on an online music school I feel a lot more motivated! You seem like such a sweetheart and look so kind and I can only imagine how your students feel around you cuz just by watching your videos I feel so happy and motivated and safe it's out of this world! You make me excited to learn more and honestly I needed it cuz sometimes I see like people like taimane playing her uke like a godess and I think "wow I can't do any of that" but you know what? I'm gonna get there. She's been playing since she's like three but I declare here that me, an 18 year old with the tiniest bit of music knowledge(for now) will get there too.

    Thank you for reviewing this Seeds 34 keys tines Kalimba. I also just got this one as well. I instantly in love with the first minutes of holding it. For me this is very affordable chromatic Kalimba apart from make it myself ones. After practice on them for 4 days, my wrist do get tired of holding it so I handle them by having it play on the table to reduce some weights. Currently practicing Bourrees from Cello suite no. III by Bach. Yours I think is even more glossy finishes than mine one.

    Your review is really helpful, most people I see who review that on UA-cam misses lot of points to discuss for they became a musician after they pick up their very first instrument (kalimba) yesterday.

    I bought one after watching your video and I love it. It has a great sound. I also like the extended base range. I’m going to have to write out my own tabs I think for pieces with accidentals. I read sheet music, but with the layout being different than what I’m used to (piano and harp) trying to read sheet music at the same time is a little to much for my brain. I like that the nonchromatic part of the kalimba is layed out like typical 17 key kalimba’s so you can use the same tabs. I have hand issues, but haven’t felt like the increased weight is a problem as long as I prop the bottom on something to play. Thanks for doing the review.

      Thank you so much for your thoughts! I'm so glad to hear the weight isn't too much. I think it's a pretty popular chromatic kalimba, so hopefully tabs will start cropping up soon! 😊

    I've said it before but I just love that little corner with the piano and singing bowl and chimes and whatnot. It just looks like a great creative space...and this kalimba is a really interesting design. It sounds really good too. I'm assuming it's solid and not hollow (you might have said that and I just missed it). If so, that's a nice thick base. BTW, are those mermaid pants? LOL.

    Hi Molly! Great review. Would you prefer this one-sided chromatic kalimba over the double-sided one? Thanks so much.

    • @MusicalMollyKhan
      @MusicalMollyKhan  2 роки тому +1

      Great question! I think it really depends on what you're trying to play. For songs with lots of fast notes, the chromatic notes on the back might be easier, since you have more fingers to work with and you don't have to reach up with the thumbs. If you're a very visual person though, you might have trouble not being able to see those back tines, and the layered kalimba may be easier 😊

    • @dominiquemacalinao7213
      @dominiquemacalinao7213 2 роки тому

      @@MusicalMollyKhan that’s a very wonderful and helpful insight. 🤍 Watching your reviews for both kinds, I kinda noticed that the one-sided Seeds Kalimba sounded “richer” than the double-sided Kalimba Kings. I’m not sure though whether it’s really like that in real life. 😅

    Hye there Molly,this is a very interesting review on a very interesting kalimba😄so from what I understand from this video is that on this one particular kalimba I can play all songs that I play in regular 17 kalimba without having to adjust any keys right?I don't know much about music but I play my kalimba using provided tabs and some requires to adjust a few keys and I find it quite troublesome😆so due to that,I have 4 regular kalimbas in c,tuned in differently(I don't know the exact word for that,it's like ye kalimba is in c,and u adjust some tines say All the F to F sharp kinda stuff)..but if this one kalimba could do all the tricks than I think I should have one of this too😍

    • @MusicalMollyKhan
      @MusicalMollyKhan  3 роки тому

      Yes! You will be able to play all the regular songs in the key of C, but your F sharps etc will be up in the top row so you never need to retune 😁

    hello,
    (my message was deleted i repost it) can you help me to understand the
    chromatic C layout of this kalimba.
    the 4 center tines of the 1st layer are not the sharp keys of the 4
    center tines of the 2nd layer. so the whole layout is not really
    chromatic, but the product page says "Both layer together = 34 keys
    chromatic kalimba" but the C4# D4# E4# and F4# are missing so why do they talk about "34 keys cromatic"? thanks
    (sorry for my approximate english, im french)

    • @MusicalMollyKhan
      @MusicalMollyKhan  2 роки тому

      That is a fantastic question! There are chromatic keys, but not for the lower octave as you noticed. They subbed those chromatic notes for some lower diatonic notes, so it goes down as low as a 21 key kalimba 😊

    I wouldn't call numbering the tines "intuitive", especially when the numbering starts on B.
    And the natural notes are given sharp numbers which is, if anything counterintuitive.
    Just discovered taht it's solid body, though. That's a deal-breaker, unless it can be plugged in, and I don't see any electronics on it, either.

      I think it's great if you think you want to stick with it! The nice thing about the double layer design is that it's easy to ignore the extra notes while you learn, but as a piano player, you would probably feel quite limited without them! (Imagine a piano with no black keys) 😊
