    00:20 POV: you’re a cat who’s owner is very insistent about talking about music while you chill in the cabinet.

    I saw one of these a little while back and I thought it looked really cool. I was happy to see this vid. It reminds me of my old 37-key synth... in layout not sound LOL. I love the angled tines. It looks like it would be really intuitive... especially for a key player. If you were looking to do covers on a kalimba this would be a good choice. I like the tone of it and you're 100% correct... those tines look different than most. Very cool!

      Yes, it's a lot like those tiny little synths! They still have some like that, but they're midi controllers now. It's be awesome for kalimba covers. Thanks for watching! 😊

    Ohhhh! Thank you so much for this review. I had seen this kalimba before, but was hesitant to get it. I'm not a piano player (yet) but I find my 21 key piano layout kalimba much easier to play. I'm looking forward to gabbing this kalimba next month!

    I myself play a dulcimer. The kalimba is cool, it reminds me of a music box.

      Ooh, the dulcimer is so pretty! That's my favorite part about kalimbas, that music box sound 😊

      What is the upgraded version & where do I get 1?

  • @cindyhauffe6963
    @cindyhauffe6963 Рік тому

    I have 1 of these but want more tines to play chords. Would you recommend putting 2 together (maybe w/glue?), or buying a larger piece if I can find a similar arrangement?

  • @inakalimba9428

    I really love the effort put into this linear kalimba. I only play linear kalimbas. I DO reTune my diatonic kalimba, yet ; ReTuning is time consuming and I can't play songs that have distant key changes.
    Just not sure these tines resonate a full rich tone. Otherwise, I would use caution buying it. Bcz I would not buy anything but a solid board and I don't need a strap.

    Looks so awesome! Any other similar instrument with a piano array keyboard style that you can recommend me? Any other cool xylophone or lyre kind instrument that is set with the keyboard layout? Around the $100 or $200
    Even digital.

    Could you tell me how the feel of playing these tines compares w/other kalimbas-since I only have this & nothing to compare it to?

    Molly, I’m not sure if you’ve seen STL’s ocarina new Paladin ocarina but it would nice if you did a review on this. Thank you for your videos.

    nice video, but the kalimba in this video is not F-F the highest note is actually E

    Do you know if there are any kalimbas that have the ability to bend a note?

  • @marianachrispim7213

    The notes are engraved in the keys? Is not easier to play with the thumb nails like the standard kalimba? The link is unavailable 😕

    • @MusicalMollyKhan
      @MusicalMollyKhan  3 роки тому +1

      Hmm, the link is working for me but i will keep troubleshooting! The reason it's a bit harder to play with thumbs is because it's wider than most kalimbas, but I think you could definitely do it if you tried!

    I've got one of those. They're cool but my thumbs eventually get sore.

    • @MusicalMollyKhan
      @MusicalMollyKhan  3 роки тому +1

      That's fair, it can be hard if you're playing for long periods of time!

    • @thomaseibl9038
      @thomaseibl9038 3 роки тому +1

      got one too. Best to play it with second and third finger of each Hand.

    • @thomaseibl9038
      @thomaseibl9038 3 роки тому +3

      Cutting the nails short brings a much warmer tone. You will eventually get some callus which helps for playing long periods. Also try putting it on a plastic flowerpot with holes in it as a resonance chamber. Just turn it around. But put a piece of paper between the instrument and pot to prevent scratches. It will be much louder. I personally put "Journeytek Passive 3 Piezos" on mine in a distinct way. Im going into a vocal amp with it and it sounds soooo awesome!!

      @@thomaseibl9038 Why not a clay pot? Sound more accoustic?

    • @thomaseibl9038
      @thomaseibl9038 3 роки тому

      @@baronvonlichtenstein i did not try it with clay... well its heavy and not as durable and they mostly only have one hole at the bottom....more holes are better :)

    • @MusicalMollyKhan
      @MusicalMollyKhan  2 роки тому +1

      They are not able to be tuned unfortunately (at least without reshaping the tines). Mine was well enough in tune that it wasn't an issue though 😊
