I gave them a 9. I loved the pattern, I love Northcott fabric, I can easily make the quilt larger, everything was good except for the magnet thingy. That's why they didn't get a 10. 10 in. squares in our neighborhood are going from $48 to $78, depending on the maker, so the box was a bargain. LG spool of Aurifil is 12.95 or 13.95. We choose to watch you Holly because you make better videos, that's all there is to it! ❤😊
Good morning everyone and a happy Friday to you all. I hope everyone is doing well and that you've all got some fun plans for the weekend. Me, I'm probably going to stay home and continue recuperating from this stupid virus I've been fighting all week (not COVID thank goodness, and definitely feeling better than I did on Tuesday), do a little sewing, and who knows, maybe even get around to making a small Halloween prop or two. Here it is nearly the end of March; time's a-wasting on prepping for this year's haunt!
On to today's box. On the plus side of things, the value-to-cost is definitely there. Layer cakes in my neck of the woods run between $42 and $50 easily, so with just that one item we've pretty much hit the price of the box. I would absolutely use the fabrics. They tick several good boxes for me: tone on tone, blenders, black & white, and I like all of the patterns on them. The sort of chrysanthemum petal one at 6:12 is my favorite of the bunch, with the raindrop-ripples-in-a-puddle one immediately before it coming in second. The quilt pattern is cool, and looks like it would be fun to make; even a bit challenging in a skill-building kind of way for my sewing level so thumbs up for sure on that count. A whole spool of thread is a generous amount, always welcome, and of course black in general is something that can be used in many projects.
On the minus side, the box is not well-curated, and that's a *major* flaw in my book. Presuming the fabric, pattern, and thread are all intended to be used as a single project, they just don't mesh together as well as they should. The sample quilt pictured on the pattern clearly shows it made with three colors (black, white, and dark green), which the layer cake lacks. Adding some black-on-white/white-on-black squares to the pack would have made the selection more dynamic, and could have acted as that missing third color in the quilt. The black thread is going to disappear on the black squares and show up starkly against the white; choosing the middle ground with a medium or dark grey might have been a better choice. The notion is definitely useful, but it's generic & could be put in any subscription box (or let's face it, any sewing convention swag bag).
I want to rate this box a six or a seven, but to be fair I think if you had posted this video before yesterday's amazing Sew Sampler box (which was beautifully curated), I would have gone a little higher than that so I'm going to go with 8 out of 10.

My vote is an 8.5. It is a good value and you are correct, more of a manly style quilt which is unique.
I love the pattern. I give the box a 7. In NJ we are expecting about 4 inches of rain. Looks like that will be a sewing day. 😊
Squirrel’y Zen is in my backyard as well. My bird feeder is hanging from patio, so squirrels can’t get into. However they chose the stuffing out of my patio furniture.😂😂😂😂 Sew Yeah box is $55.00 plus tax I think. It’s ok box love that they include thread in every box. I give it a 7. I like the design of the pattern and i have wanted to do a black and white quilt so its a winner for me i would rate it 9.
I like getting the large spool of Aurifil. The pattern is very cool. I like the variety in patterns in the layer cake. I really like the pattern. The price point seems reasonable. I'd give it a 8.
The smell you noticed is from the black fabric dye.
I like this box. I would say 8 also. I like it when the boxes have things you will use. I don't always like the pattern they give us, but then again, I'm kinda addicted to quilt kits.
My question is, what other hobbies do you have outside of the craft room?
7.5. it's nice to have a project that's different than the typical offering in a sub box. But this isn't something I would choose for myself.

I would give this box an 8. I think it had some thoughtful elements for the black and white theme, including the black and white sticker and the black sinister squiggles.
Love the fabrics and would like yardage in it. I would use that black (anything but the Morse code one) as background in a Halloween quilt. They put an actual pattern in the box! That was one of the reasons why I stopped my subscription, the download QR code didn't always work and their videos weren't always available, the season I got the subscription. I give this a 10 because I would use everything in this box.

I liked the box! Have not done a black & white quilt before but have seen some beautifully done. The patterns in the layer cake were very tasteful. I think Holly, you might be pleasantly surprised with the results if you make that one. You are fun to watch & listen to. I enjoy your videos. I guess my question is what kind of a sewing machine do you use, and do you long arm? I do not and always have interest in what others do, either knowing what they do instead of long arming or if the expense of having someone do it is worth it for them.

Q &A …. How do you choose colors for a quilt? Especially if the fabric is busy. I think matching solid colors are no problem however choosing fabric to match a busy fabric is so hard for me ❤

I give this box a 9. I liked the fabric, pattern and thread. How long have you had your channel? Does it bring you joy? How many hours a week do you put towards your channel? I do miss you on the weekend.
Like you said, you will always need black and white fabrics, and these are fine to add to my B&W stash - especially being TOT fabrics. Same with the black thread. I noted that some of those black fabrics would go really well with some of Marcia Derse's fabrics too, which is a fun idea. I *guess* I could use another pin magnet, but I already have 2 of the extendable kind like yours. The pattern is one that I might actually make someday, but it doesn't inspire me to jump right on it and start today. I am already beginning to question whether I will re-subscribe to their box next year, so we shall see. I like to watch your videos and see your "take" and evaluation. I would agree with your evaluation of 8, but take off one point for the horrid squiggles. LOL So, I would say 7/10 for this month. P.S. I do not recall whether you mentioned this, but you must be getting a little discount from them, because I am paying $55 per month for this box, whereas at the top of the page your amount is $42.50. That's a decent discount. But of course, I always go by what it cost me, so there's that.
We are getting lots of snow in Minnesota-I appreciate the sunshine behind you! I watch UA-cam channels mostly for the personality that provides the content. You are the best! Nice box. Good pattern, thread, and fabric. I like it. Fair value for the price. 8/10 (not really my preference)

I was not awed by this box, it was practical. Looks like a quality pattern. Northcott is quality fabric. I would never use what came in the box though. It was just not my cup of tea. I give it a solid C or 7.

Just an ok box for me. Yes, it might be nice to have some black and white fabric. I'd rather have brighter colors for spring. Looks more like a fall box. Not crazy about the pattern. So, I give the box an 8 since there was alot of stuff there. Just not what I'd want. Thanks for sharing!
I am not a fan of black and white quilts, but the patterns in the fabric are attractive. And You are right! you can always use black and white fabric. I think with some bright accents it would make a very striking quilt. I give it an 8. Would I make this project? Probably not.

So strange I am working on a black and white quilt right now. As far as the fabric and the pattern I i would give it an 9, The box as a whole Maybe 7.5. I like the fact you could use the wrong side as a contrast. Have a great week end.

I am in the same camp on SewYeah. I was spending WAY too much time watching every time they had a live UA-cam sale, and spending too much money. I decided to spend that time sewing or doing something else productive, and not buy so much new fabric all the time, when I already have tons to use. And I really want to stop buying any precuts that have pinked edges, and cut my own instead. Trying not to buy anything smaller than a FQ - but I DO love to buy scraps. Isn't that weird? I have never subscribed to their box before, and I am enjoying it for now, but probably will not re-subscribe next year. Like you said, they have lost my attention too.
It is a decent box but compared to other boxes it gets an 8. What is your favorite meal, dessert? Have you seen the squirrels trying to get up the pole lol?

This box is a 9 for me! The pattern is very cool, and it would be beautiful in other colors too. I don't think the price is too bad for the layer cake, pattern, and thread. The pin wand was meh for me.

When I saw this pattern, the first thought I had was do one of the enter arrows in a primary color and placing it off center. I give this box a 10 due to the thought that you can't really appreciate it till your shopping your stash at night and realize you need a black tonal and there it is 🤔😁
I do like the black and white. That makes very pretty quilts. Notions are ok. Nothing special. So I will give this box a 8.

The girls and I give this one a 7. Black and white fabric is definitely useful. I probably wouldn't make the pattern. It was a 'meh' for me.
I would have been disappointed if I had received this box. All I could think about was the black fading into the white. My score would have been a six or seven.

My question is: if you had to temporarily move and you had to pick 1 subscription box and 1 pattern with the most treasured fabric what would you choose. Nothing specifically included showing the box contents. They had that paper that talked about the black and white fabric being timeless. Could have been on the back of that.
- Projects:
Lost in Flight Pattern. I really like that pattern. It works well with the material provided and can be completed again with own material as well. I think I would make it.
- Creatively Curated:
I think the packaging of this box was okay. Compared to one you got prior. The fabric in this box was in a package to keep the squiggly dust off the fabric. Everything was also right
on top. Not throughout the filler.
Material provided works well with the pattern. But can use the material and pattern apart from one another as well.
- Fabric Quality:
Quilt shop quality fabric. So, going to be fine.
- Fabric Preference:
Like you mentioned I think Black and White is something everyone can use. It can be filler in other projects if the quilt project isn’t something you want to use it for.
Value vs cost: $65.19 value of products using prices I could find online. I saw the box for $55 if I wanted to sign up now. So, about a $10 dollar savings if buying the subscription.
Overall, I like that the box includes fabric, a pattern, thread and a notion. But I feel like it needs something else. The pattern itself called for additional material after using a layer cake. Maybe that could have been included.
Cost of box: $42.50 (Cost from what I am seeing online now is $55.00.

I personally use to get a few bag making subscription boxes. These boxes had a dedicated project for the contents. So, if the project called for a 8” square of material for a certain part of the project that is what you got inside. Rarely I found that there was extras included. Something that could be used after finishing the project inside. Which is what I found myself missing.
I ended up cancelling my subscriptions to those because I never found myself doing the projects. And most of the time the material wasn’t limited to being only in the boxes. I could just order it later.
There was some candy in the boxes I use to get as well. One was always honey themed. I personally don't like honey themed candy. So that also wasn’t something I was using out of the box.
I love black & white fabric! This was a beautiful collection! And, I love Aurifil thread! However, I think more thought could have gone into the box - it seemed rather bland to me! I was very surprised that you gave it an 8!

At 65 I was diagnosed with no systemic lupus of my skin. The medicine I take for the itching causes tremors and often look for the words. I know how you feel with the memory and shaking. I pray for you and your turmoil.
For a moment I thought they had a dark green as well in the pattern, would have liked that better. A complete box but not what I like so give it an 8
